We purchased our Soul EV from Harper Motors. Out of 9 Kia dealers we contacted, Chris Arnold was the most responsive, and professional. He quoted the price of the new car and trade in value of the old car via email. We drove 329 miles (one way), test drove the car, signed the contract, and left in 2 hours. When U-Haul didn't have the required car dolly, Chris contacted a transport company who would deliver the Soul in 3 days at a reasonable cost. The next day, Chris called to confirm that the Soul arrived in good condition. Chris continued his excellent service and contacted us the following week to see if we had any questions. Finance Manager, Antoine Johnson, was professional, polite, and detail oriented. Also, Harper Motors has been in business over 100 years and is still owned by the same family! read more

The lack of professionalism, efficiency, and communication ruined our whole experience with Harper Ford and drastically interrupted our daily lives for 2 weeks. We recently moved from the Bay area. Being the only Ford dealership in the area we took our car in under warranty for a leak repair. From the very beginning the service department was extremely unorganized, rude and showed no interest in giving quality service. We were told they needed the car for 2 days to complete the fix. The first time dropping the car off we called 3 days later to see if it was ready and the service department agent casually tells me the car hadn't even been looked at and that we could come pick it up and bring it back after the weekend. And so we did. The second visit they misdiagnosed the issue and had to order a different part which prolong the process even more. We picked the car up and had to bring it back a couple days later. We had to put up with waiting for our car with no sense of urgency on their part. We would be the ones to initiate communication. We had to call them several times to check up on the status; they wouldn't call us. When we did reach them we'd be told the car would be ready soon and 4 days later we had not heard from them and yet the car was still not ready. We had to request a loaner and when we did they seemed inconvenience. During that time we got a flat tire in the loaner. We were billed $250 for one tire. We were very disappointed and communicated this. The owner himself even bribed us and said if we took down our bad review from yelp he would detail our car to make up for the lack of service. When the car was finally ready we went to pick up it up and THEY WOULD NOT GIVE IT TO US unless we paid the $250 for the damaged tire, right then and there, even tho we had given them our insurance info and they were dealing with it. For 2 WEEKS we missed work, juggled our schedules around and dealt with constant uncertainty and much unnecessary stress all due to their inadequate service. This dealership is untrustworthy, holds no integrity and simply does not provide quality customer service, if any at all. After 3 visits and 2 weeks of dealing with this business, we finally got our car back. We would never go there again. In fact we wish we never did in the first place. read more

Over 2 hours for an oil change and a review of the oil vent on the rear axle which I thought was excessive. My appointment was at 11:15 and was told EVERYONE of the mechanics take an hour lunch at noon. In my opinion it would be much better if the lunch breaks were split into two lunch breaks. I bet the sales department doesn't shutdown for an hour at noon. When I returned several days later for the warranty work to be performed they had a problem of finding the paperwork for the work to be performed. Their computer showed A/C problem which tossed a monkey wrench into the works. Took them awhile to find the paperwork. They apologized but it still should not have happened. read more

I bought a brand new ford explorer and have been here several times to have things fixed on it. A simple oil change took them 3 hours to do. I live 1.5 hours away I drove all the way up to have the dvd player fixed, after several hours they said they would need to order a new one and sent me home only to call me when I got home to tell me I needed to come back up so they could get some numbers off of it to order the new one. Then I had to have a seat belt replaced that was only supposed to take an hour and after sitting in the waiting room for 2 hours 40 min they came in to tell me the mechanic had it all taken apart and would get back to it when he got off of his lunch break! so a simple seat belt replacement ended up taking over 4 hours! read more

I bought a 2004 F250 about a year ago and I have had numerous serious problems with the vehicle since. Resulting in it having been in the shop for 6 of the 52 weeks unable to do work. Today Trevor Harper, owner of Harper Motors called me to offer to do what he could to make things right. I want to take the opportunity to follow up on what has happened since my first review. I was recently contacted by Harper Motors. Mr Harper expressed his desire to hear my side of what happened and to find a solution to make things right. He took his time to answer any questions I had and was understanding of my frustrations. Apologies were given and I felt they were sincere. Mr Harper did some research on this particular vehicle and found out it had in fact been in an accident. They were unaware of the accident because of a delay in a computer system. He took responsibility for the entire situation and worked out a way to repay me for most of my losses. This phone call from Mr Harper showed me that they do care about customer satisfaction. I know this type of situation is not at all normal it was just unfortunate it had to come to all of this before it was settled. I am updating my rating from 1 star up to 3 stars. This review is for the service department. Apparently it takes over 4 hrs to complete a simple oil change--even with an early morning appointment. Unacceptable. A customer's time is valuable and this is a shameful infringement on my plans for the day. Will not be returning for their service in the future. read more

My girlfriend took her car to the shop to get the cam sensor on her ford replaced, she said the shop worker was acting creepy and too nice, they told her she needed new tires which is probably true so she setup the appointment for the next week. When she dropped her car off, i went with her this time, the guy was acting a little weird but i shrugged it off as his job. When we got the call to pick the car up the creepy mechanic asked my girlfriend if she knew about cars not realizing he was on speaker and i could hear him he told her that there was another 270 dollars worth of work and the rear axle wasnt safe to drive with. When we told him we needed to pick it up anyway he changed his story to the rear left axle seal looked a little worn and that it was safe to drive. We got home from the shop and when we turned her ford off the rear lights wouldnt turn off. By now it was 5:35 five minutes after they closed so we called and they claimed they had nothing to do with it and refused to do anything. read more

I just had another "experience" at Harper Motors. Last week I almost bought a Kia from them but the right price proved elusive. While I was there I noticed a Ford Edge Sport in the showroom. My wife really liked it so since I am 6'5: I have to "try cars on" before I even bother to talk about a test drive. When I went in the battery on the car was dead and I couldn't move the seat back. There was 4, count them, 4 salesman in the office looking at me and none could be bothered to even ask if I needed help. I went in the office and one of the salesman told me "there's nothing I can do"! I asked if, perhaps, a battery charger was available. He directed me to a fifth salesman who escorted me all the way out to the carousel to try and fit one. This guy talked on the phone the whole time and answered no questions nor was he available to do anything but carry on a chat. I was fully prepared to see what we could do about a price since the Edge is so roomy and so nice. I loved it but I will love the one in Redding just as much. What gives guys? read more

So here we are on our first road trip with the kids in our brand new kia Sorento, driving around northern California. This morning as we started the car, the screen of the multi media system stayed dark. Imagine a thousand miles with the whole family and no music. It didn't look good. Fortunately we were close to Kia Harper. We didn't have an appointment. I had the WORST car shop experience of my life with Harper Motors. They charged me over $800 to replace my battery and starter, only for the supposedly brand new starter to stop working four days later. When I took the car back into the shop they attempted to charge me more to replace it. I finally made them agree to replace THEIR faulty starter for free, but it took them 3 days to get my car back to me and they refused to let me use one of their leased cars to drive to work for those three days. This experience ended up costing me more than just the initial overpriced $800, it also caused me to miss a day of work and pay for transportation costs. They made no attempt to reimburse me for my troubles. If you are looking for work to be done on your car, I suggest Redwood Auto in Arcata. They are honest and will not overcharge you and give you faulty parts. read more

I wish to thank this facility for getting my grandson financing on the car he selected. I do have a few items to warn people about. We walked into make a deal on a car that my grandson test drove at about 1 pm. When salesman returned with counter offer I specifically asked it the price included all taxes, registration and fees. (The reason I asked was because my grandson's offer was including all costs) we were told it was. We were then kept waiting for several hours while the dealer set up financing. I confronted sales person regarding this tactic of keeping potential buyers waiting as long as possible, in order to secure a deal. Then once we get into financial office and after signing several papers we finally got to what the actual deal was. (Several thousand $ more than we thought the deal was made for) after voicing my dismay at finding this out, with the sales manager ( who really didn't appear to be sincerely concerned) then the next thing my grandson was told that he needed to open a savings account with lender and had to deposit $50.00 (after he gave them $5000.00 cash for down payment) if we hadn't been kept so long and my grandson didn't desperately need a car we would have walked out) I most certainly would have. This is a very shady tactic to keep potential buyers waiting for closure on a deal and not fully disclose all truths clearly and specific. Will not return to this dealership again ever and will warn others of these practices. Shame on you read more

I was looking for a used car trying to keep my payment around $150.00. I would up going to every car lot in town. Did find a couple of cars at Lithia's but the salesman was very pushy. I then went to Harper Motors and was looking around at their used cars. Tim Hayden came right out and showed me around the lot. He was very helpful and did not try to talk me into anything I wasn't interested in. I wound up purchasing a 2014 Ford Focus with the sport package. After all the rebates, and the Ford incentive program, which gave me twice the value of my trade in, they got the payment to $213.00. It was doable for me so I bought the car. They detailed the car after I decided to buy, oil-change with next oil-change part of the deal. I could not get a ride to pick up the car after it was detailed and live 30 minutes away. My son's car broke down on HWY 101 on his way back home to Portland. With over 200 miles on it, we could not fix it. I was in Portland and had to search online for another used car and quickly. We found several cars at Harper Motors but my son (since he didn't have a car) could not get out there. The sales person, Chris, helped get my son out to the dealership, found him a car he loved in our price range and was able to figure how we could pay for the car, quickly so my son could get back on the road and home for Thanksgiving. I will never go here again. I would never recommend this business to any one. They are rude, disrespectful and not trustworthy. All they care about is emptying your wallet. We took our truck in to get looked at because the steering is lose. Mind you, I got this truck from them 2 months ago. When I was checking in for my appointment, the woman made rude remarks about me under her breath to the technician. The tech was nice, I described the problem and he said it'd be covered under the warranty no trouble at all. He also said that they'd call with an estimate before the did any charging. Throughout the day they would not return any phone calls. While speaking with one gentleman he literally told use how one of the other receptionist was talking badly about me and my wife. When that gentleman spoke with the manager on my behalf he told us that they were not going to honor the warranty on the truck and they need to replace the ball bearings and power steering and several other things, plus a 180$ charge just for inspection! We purchased this vehicle less than 2.5 months ago and they have the audacity to say that we have an $1100 bill. And the icing on the cake is, they dropped me off at work in the morning, and even though they agreed to pick me back up, they left me stranded at work! DO NOT GIVE HARPER MOTORS YOUR BUSINESS! It'll be cheaper and less of a headache buying a vehicle in Oregon and dealing with the DMV to get the state tags changed. read more

I called to see if they had a part I am looking for and they quoted me outrageously high, considering that I had just been quoted 11.21% of what they quoted me from Napa. I told him I wanted to buy the part before the quote and he said, "It's going to be $214 just for the part." Which makes me assume he wanted to fix it too, but I said that was an alarmingly high quote and he then said, "Would you like to hold so I can try to do something about that." Save your money and go to a more populated area to buy a car. This places charges more since we are in a remote location and once my vehicle started having issues, the quality of service started spiraling down. I was told I would have to pay to have my car looked started it started having issues, even thoigh when I purchased the brand new car off the lot and it had a bumper to bumper warranty. After six months it started having issues and the problems were never fixed and I was repeatedly told they would not service my vehicle without me paying out of pocket for it. Terrible service department, Ford completely screwed me by selling a faulty transmission in a car for over 4 years, knowingly, and then I'm told I have to bring in money to have my brand new car looked at from the same place that I bought it from that promised me a decent working car. There is no point in making an appointment in the service department because they do whatever they want whenever they want. My husband drove 1/12 hours to get to a 9:00am appointment, came back at noon and the car had not been touched. So they decide to bring it in for the recall finally and take hours to tell him they don't think the part is working. They take it out and put it back in and think now "maybe" it's working. So for his inconvenience the girl at the desk tells him the manager has agreed to fill your tank. By now it's 4:30 and they did not fill the tank or fix the problem. This is why you don't buy local. Terrible customer service and it's not the first time we have encountered it here . We still have to make a third trip there to "maybe " get something fixed again. When we first purchased the car new it wouldn't start, had it towed 80 miles to the dealer for them to tell us they forgot to take it out if transport mode. That was our clue , then we had to drive there to pick it up. Would not purchase another car here , would drive further to avoid it. read more

SERVICE DEPARTMENT: WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER. This place does not instill or value any service skills whatsoever. Avoid them like the plague if you can. The simplest thing that could have changed everything - COMMUNICATION. This all started about 3 weeks ago when I had a leak on my 1 year old Ford Fiesta. I assumed it was an oil leak because I had already had an oil leak several months ago. They spend the day diagnosing it and determine "yep its the same problem you had before - the seal is cracked." They needed to order a part and I had to bring it back in a week later. Typical - so no big deal. I brought it back a week later, they had it for a few days (meanwhile of coarse I'm struggling to deal without it because I'm a parent with a full time job and have to juggle things as it is). No one calls me to tell me my car is don't or not, so on Friday afternoon (day 3) I call because I don't want to be without my car for the entire weekend too. I'm told that they haven't started working on it.. wait what?? Apparently they misdiagnosed the problem and so they don't have the correct part. Wow... nice that they didn't bother to communicate what they probably knew 3 days ago. My husband was really irritated and called them explaining how frustrated we were a the situation and they offered to drop my car off to me and then bring a loaner to me 4 days later to have while they fixed it. Cool - that was a good move on their part. They brought my car to my home in McKinleyville for me and I thought that was a great gesture. On Tuesday when they were supposed to drop off a loaner they called me around 945am and I just missed their call. I called back 15 minutes later and was told that my service advisor Katrina was on the phone and she would call me right back. 4 hours passed and I never heard from her. I called her again around 2pm and she said they would be there at 430pm. OK fine... the woman who dropped it off was very nice -- again my frustration was appeased. A week passes and they haven't called me once to let me know what's going on with my car. Mind you, they have told me that they mis-diagnosed my car, but they have not yet called me to tell me what is actually wrong with it nor a status on when it will be ready. I called Monday again really irritated at the lack of communication. I speak to Katrina again and ask what's going on because I haven't heard from anyone yet. She says the car has a transmission leak because they seal is cracked and the part is on back order and that it will probably be a couple days... why didn't someone just pick up the phone and tell me this? THEN the next day the loaner car gets a flat tire at midnight and my husband and I cannot find a spare tire anywhere... luckily I was a block from my house so I just parked it until they opened in the morning. I call at 740am, 10 minutes after they opened and the receptionist told me that Julie is in charge of the loaners and she will be in at 8am and she will speak with her right away. I called back at 820am after not hearing from anyone (by the way I called right away because I have to take my son to school and get myself to work this morning). The receptionist "checks to see if she is here yet" which made me wonder if in the 40 minutes since I had last called if she had checked at all or whether Julie just hadn't shown up. Julie gets on the phone and I explain that I'm frustrated that she didn't call me back at 8 because I need to get it fixed ASAP so I'm not late for work. She gets really snotty and says "I'm sorry I was late today - my fault". She says that she will call the roadside assistance to come fix that flat and she will call me right back to let me know when they are coming and hangs up on me. Yep hung up on me - cool. She doesn't call me back but I get an automated call from the Roadside assistance telling me it will be 45 minutes. 45 minutes later Roadside assistance comes and says they are here to tow the car. Wait, TOW it?? I thought they were just going to put a spare tire on it. Apparently Ford's no longer come with spares so they have to tow it back to the Dealership. AGAIN, why didn't someone all to COMMUNICATE this?? I call Julie back and I told her that they were here to tow the car and that I was freaking out because I didn't have a vehicle - she said that they are not required to give me a loaner vehicle so that I'm lucky to have had one in the first place. She transfers me to Katrina and I explain that I'm really upset because I have received no communication from anyone this whole time and she tells me that if I don't like it that I can call Ford Customer Service and have take my vehicle elsewhere. Whoa - wow. You provide me with crappy service and tell me to shove it and take my car elsewhere? Wow. Essentially at the end of that conversation we decided that they would fix the loaner and bring it back to me (how ever many hours that takes) until tomorrow. read more
