Kind of torn on this one. I went to Northwood, pre approved for financing from GM. So I filled the online prequal and sent them the letter through gm online. The next day I find out my credit had been ran seven times, and again by gm, who had already offered me a loan... so I made an appt. went in two days later in person i said, "look I'm a year out of a 3 year bankruptcy, and I've worked tirelessly to get my credit score back over 700. I have a letter here from GM. I've been approved for 36k or less so rather than shop around for a loan I'd rather take this offer while you have a few cars that fit the bill." I was told by my salesman who was green AF, that's not how it works here, the finance guy makes all those decisions. I was told I could not speak to him at all. I feel like I should have walked right then, but they had the exact car I was looking for so, i said lets look at what you can do. I filled out some forms, which was odd, because they had already run my credit 7 times, but i assumed they knew what they were doing. they ran my credit to 6 loan companies and gm... again...all dinging off on my phone as it was happening. As I'm literally showing the sales rep saying wtf you guys just dinged my credit 14 times in three days when I already came with loan approval from gm in hand? this was not a prequal letter, it was a loan approval. I later brought this up to the finance guy who I was not allowed to speak with for an hour and he comes out and says "we'll we got you approved with GM" he said "Don't worry your score will drop like a rock but anyone important will know you were shopping for a car" - ok d.b. we'll my score went from 730 to 598 in 1 week because I have too many credit enquiries, and I came prepared to not have this happen. You guys need to listen to your customers, as you work for us remember? meanwhile the car wasn't detailed and there are quite a few spots with window sticker type sticky that needs to be professionally cleaned and buffed off. So they said, come by on Sat. So I did... But it turns out the detail guy wasn't in, and wasn't going to be. so I've been told now they will detail my car, and buff that sht out when the new plates come in, whenever that is. So I have a brand new car that desperately needs a wash and detail, and they owe me one... Judging by the reviews Im not sure if i should even let you guys service my vehicle which is free under the warranty I paid extra for... I'm the greatest customer ever, easy going, come with all the resources to get the job going, I don't ask much, I'm never rude, and I just want to be treated fairly.. I'm buying the first new car in my entire life, it should be a great and fulfilling experience. Great folks! We just dropped in to test-drive an electric car because we thought at some point we'd like to buy a new one. They had a used Chevy Bolt in tremendously good condition, and let us try it out. The salesman was level-headed and intelligent and put no pressure on us. Took our 2015 Silverado with 35,000 miles for servicing. Two months later the check engine light came on. When we took it back they told us our engine was blown, a scratch on the cylinder wall from a piece of spark plug!!! We had no choice but to have a new engine!!! Months went by with no contact from them!!! Finally got the engine replaced and then they say the transmission was blown too!!! AND they didn't know when they could find a new one!!! After waiting more than 6 months for the engine with no contact from them I lost all confidence in them SO we took it to Roger's Transmission and he found a brand new transmission and we have the truck back in 3 weeks! AND he kept us informed on the progress!!! I will never take my vehicle back to Northwood !!! AND I would never consider buying a vehicle from them!!!!! read more

While camping six hours from home with my family (husband, myself, three year old, and four month old) our GMC has a check engine light come on and an alert stating that we would be limited on speed after 99 miles. We instantly began searching for a service center to take a look and hopefully fix our truck so we could drive it home. Upon looking, we quickly realized that we were very limited on options, and after calling the McKinleyville location we learned that they did not have a mechanic that could work in a diesel. That led us to call this location, despite the bad reviews. We were informed that they did not have any appointments available, but if we could get there when they opened (0730) that they would attempt to squeeze us in... needless to say, we woke up at 0430 and packed up camp and headed to the dealership. We were greeted and checked in. They had a nice waiting room that we were able to relax in, with wifi, and a TV to keep our oldest daughter entertained, and the service desk lady even went out of her way to print off some coloring pages and provided my daughter with markers to keep her happy. After a little while the service manager came and informed us what the issue was and that they even had the part in stock, but that it was a lengthy job and since they were busy it would probably take most of the day. He then went out of his way to give us some ideas of places to walk around nearby to stretch our legs and burn off some toddler energy. Around 1500 our truck was done and working in tip top shape. We are very appreciative that they were able to squeeze us in and get us back on the road in order to make it home. Thank you for your spectacular service. read more

Service manager was supposed to call me in 15 minutes, more than 6 hours ago, so I'll put here what I was going to tell her. My check engine light came on December 1st as I was driving my car home from having an oil change. Got a clean bill of health from the tech. Being so close to closing, I took it back on Monday. They claimed it was just a coincidence, saying my car now had a faulty engine thermostat. They went to their computer and said it was going to be $500-600 for the repair, after ordering a replacement and the labor. I opted to think it over. The guy said it shouldn't be a problem to drive it around, even with the bad thermostat. I went back after remembering I had purchased an extended warranty from them at the same time I purchased the car. The rep says I'll check on it and get back to you, but the extended warranty place is real hard to get ahold of. I went back a week or two later and asked the same rep if he had any success. He said no, they were real busy, and just can't stay waiting on hold for them. He claimed he was really going to try again. Meanwhile, I went to sales and talked to the sales manager who said they don't even like working with the extended warranty folks anymore. Apparently, they fired a lot of their front-end customer service, so they no longer even sell that company's extended warranty. The sales manager told me not to drive the car long periods or distances until it was fixed. I also called the extended warranty department who said their process was simple, a thermostat would be a covered part, the claim would take 5 monutes, but has to originate from the shop. They said they have an 800 number and the shop can just leave a message and they will call them back. An approved claim can get paid the same day via email. Went back and asked the guy... still nothing. Ended up leaving a message for another rep... didn't receive a return call. Finally called corporate customer service who called NW on my behalf. Got a call back from the same rep saying he was upset because I called corporate and got his boss upset at him... THEN DO YOUR JOB! After a month of going around in circles, he said nothing was ever documented when I came in on the Monday after my oil change, they'd have to do 3 hours of diagnostics to prove it's a covered part even before they could call for a warranty claim or purchase the replacement part. If they determine it not to be a covered part, I'd be responsible for paying for all their diagnostic time. Will not be back here or buy a vehicle from Chevrolet ever again because of this. Just been lied to and strung along for a month and a half and couldn't/didn't even make a call to the warranty department. They lied to their service manager about what was done and said, and even to me, so how can I trust them with my vehicle? read more

Totally unaccommodating and it's no wonder why they have a 2 star rating. I was in the market for a Suburban or Tahoe and was looking to trade my truck in. I called in to get a ball park figure and of course they say they can't give me a number unless I come down. Funny, because EVERY dealership in the Bay Area would do this, but not Northwood. When I asked about prices they also gave me the runaround and I just don't have time for it. Just for shits and giggles I went in and got pricing and it wasn't even close between their dealership and Dublin, Fremont, Vacaville and even Santa Rosa Chevy. I'm not talking about 500 dollars savings either...Im talking about 2-3k. If I were you, I'd take the five hour trip to save a bunch! read more

Sorry that others have not had the type of experience that my wife and I had on 1/26/20. I had decided to purchase a 2020 Hyundai Sonata Limited and the exterior and interior colors were not available within 200 miles of where we live. I went on Hyundai's vehicle search and Northwood Hyundai/Chevy had the exact vehicle. I contacted Liz Bagnell, Sales Consultant and she confirmed the vehicle, sent pictures, and negotiated a fair price. Some dealers in my area were asking for MSRP or higher due to first model year and availability. NOT! Once we agreed on the (out the door) price, then I had to convince my wife of making a 610-mile, 11-hour (roundtrip) drive to Eureka. Liz was helpful in the process here too. We rented a vehicle one way for the drive and were able to see the beautiful western shoreline, (through fog and sunshine). We had requested that by the time we arrive we would be exhausted and that we wanted to truly get there and (sign and drive). Liz and the staff at Northwood Chevy get 5 Stars just for that. Most auto closings seem to take a lifetime. As a 60+ family man, I have purchased numerous cars. The time spent purchasing this one was painless and record breaking. Another service that I have never experienced was the details and time Liz spent with us going over the features and operation of the vehicle. Sure, most dealers give you an overview, but I have never had a sales rep sit in the passenger side and go through a checklist of the major components on vehicle operation. Let's face it, once you've signed, it's on to the next client. Liz as well as the Sales Manager were concise, professional and made this the best auto purchase we've ever made. I am a small business owner, and I know we're not always on our A game. However, the Northwood team was. You always hear of the poor service, etc. I wanted to give credit for a job well done. While I scratched my head knowing I wanted this vehicle enough to drive 600+ miles to purchase it, Northwood Hyundai confirmed that it was worth it. We'd do it again! read more

My husband and I started our car search three days ago. We spent more time at Northwood Chevrolet than anywhere else. We test drove a 2015 Ford Fiesta that was within our budget but just barely, and had decided to try getting it once we heard back from our potential co-signer. Then my husband spotted a 2013 Ford Focus that was much closer to our budget. We sat inside, and fell in love. We had found our car. We got a co-signer and were all set to go. My husband had to go to work so we planned to go back today and fill out the paperwork to drive away in our new car. Unfortunately, we woke up this morning to a voicemail letting us know that the Focus sold last night after we left. I was truly upset, I honestly cried a little. We have been talking about starting our family and it was the perfect little family car. We did end up going elsewhere to buy a car, and ended up with a nice 2016 Ford Focus. However, the entire time we worked with Dimitri to try getting us into a car, he was awesome. He kept crunching numbers to try finding anything and everything that would work with our budget and credit. He was a great salesman, the first one we encountered that didn't keep trying to push us into a car we couldn't afford. My Chevy Volt had a manufacture defect in that when it rained the inside of my car would flood with water. Luckily it is still under warranty. As my new car would be in the shop, I asked for a loaner and they told me that GM would pay for three days. GM might pay for any additional days or they might not. Two weeks in I had to drive out of town for a week for work and simply had to have a rental. They got me one for 5 days. They had my car for 25 days. I got the car back and noticed trim missing on the windshield, trim dislodged inside the car, the reassembled dash loose and crooked in various places, and worst off all the mold/mildew issue is alive and well, as my allergies and asthma will attest. To top it off the heater won't work now! We are taking the car back in and preparing to be without a vehicle for another month. And if they don't fix the mold and mildew issue we can go even longer than that. I certainly hope that the results this next time will result in me upgrading this review to five stars. read more

my wife and I ordered a new tahoe and paid the $1000.00 down payment required to place the order. This was the GM promotion they were running that allowed you to build your vehicle on their website and take the build sheet to any dealer and they would have to honor it. Well that sure didn't happen here. After 4 plus months of waiting, my wife found out that the manager cancelled our order without ever saying anything to us and did not bother to refund our money until we came and asked for it. Now on their website, they are not ashamed to list their tahoes for $4000 to $6000 above msrp. Now we really know why they canceled our order. read more

Wow! What a refreshing experience buying a car. Chris had no problem in giving us the price of a car. It sounds simple but every other car dealership wanted to know how much we wanted our payment to be NOT what we wanted to pay for the car. He was super knowledgeable about the cars and their features. We only dropped in to look at a car but ended up driving home with a beautiful Chevy. I February 2019 I purchased a certified preowned Chevy Sonic. November 6, 2019, less than one year later a water connection on the engine began to disintegrate. I took it to a local mechanic who replaced the part but the car continued to overheat. On November 18th I took the car to Northwood Chevy to be examined. The said the engine had blown and needed to be replaced. I argued that it should be covered under warranty and they finally did agree and they replaced the cylinder head, returning the car to me on vehicle to me on January 30th. They held the car for over 2 months without a loaner or anything. When I received the car I could smell coolant and the reservoir needed refilling repeatedly but I thought this might just be due to the recent repairs. On July 7th I returned to Northwood to report that the car is still losing coolant. They pressure tested the vehicle and said they found a hose clamp loose. On September 1st I returned to Northwood with the car still losing coolant. They tested it again and reported tightening another hose clamp. They also now wanted to charge me for the repair. When I disputed that they did cover it under warranty but to date the vehicle is still losing coolant. It appears that Northwood cannot properly conduct a major repair on a vehicle and when it does not go well they refuse to warranty their work. I do not recommend Northwood for any major work on your vehicle. read more

I purchased a used car from this dealership, it had been on the lot for a year... they were unwilling to negotiate on the price... When all the heckling back and forth was done, me waiting for 4 hours... didn't offer water, coffee, tea,,, nothing!!! Sat for over an hour in silence not knowing if they had forgotten about me or not... The man in charge of, "financing and the final paperwork" quoted me with an additional $3,000+ added warranty which I said I absolutely didn't want!!! Came back to finalize papers after the long wait... He printed out all the contracts, with extended warranty that I said I didn't want!!! And threw a fit when I asked that he take the warranty off. I feel I was taken advantage of by that man. He was rude, disrespectful and arrogant. The sales man was kind, the one with red hair, in charge of financing was absolutely awful! In fact his lack of professionalism in our community should be known. I'm disappointed with the service I got from this dealership and, even though the sales man was kind, the company in a whole lacked a lot of professionalism... especially by having the aggressive man in charge of the paperwork. He was trying to make money off of me, even though I didn't want the warranty and he managed to bully me into doing it. I am not happy about this. read more

This location is still as horrible as ever. Chevy Road Side assistance accidentally towed my vehicle here last friday at 1 pm instead of the location in Mckinleyville. Today I tried to call in and check on my vehicle, only then was I informed the vehicle never arrived. I called this location to see if it was here and they searched, initially said no, I asked to check again. The manager "Will" then told me it has been sitting outside on the street since last Friday and they didn't have time to call me to ask why it was delivered or what was going on. He then told me that it was not their problem and to basically get over it. I have filed a formal complaint and hope repercussions are taken. read more

I love them! I drive an 08 Chevy Cobalt and my ignition switch failed. After doing a bit of research I found that there was a recall on 09-10 cars for GM. I called Northwood, spoke to Mark in the Service dept and despite my car not being apart of the recall they still fixed my car FREE of charge. The next day my "Service Air Bag" light came on. I called Mark, he told me to bring it in, they did an assessment and realized they needed to fix one more part. ($325 to be exact, which was FREE for me). The part they ordered came in the next day. but unfortunately it was the right box, wrong part. Before they called me to tell me the bad news, they had already scheduled a rental car with Enterprise for FREE so I wouldn't have to keep driving back and forth. This is my first time dealing with a dealership but I couldn't be more pleased. The shop is very clean and the people working their are very kind and helpful. read more

I took my CTS-V coupe in for a routine oil change, reminded them to put in full synthetic Mobil-1 per GM, got my receipt and realized they put janky AC Delco oil in my luxury sports car. Instead of making it right and at least offering to give a free oil change, service guy Jeff said "won't happen again". Damn right it won't cuz I'm never bringing my car back! My spouse and I were shopping for a new vehicle. We visited Northwood's site twice for about 30 minutes each time, and decided on a specific car they had in stock. The salesperson who was helping us took us on a test drive, we discussed the price, and they stated that there would be a $1,000 dealer markup ('Market Adjustment') over the MSRP on the window sticker, which we were agreeable to. Before returning to Northwood to sign papers and purchase the vehicle at the agreed price. When we arrived, there was a new sticker in the window, indicating a $4,999 'Market Adjustment' (dealer markup), so I asked the salesperson about it. They seemed genuinely confused in that moment and pulled up the price on their website, which showed the $1,000 markup he had previously committed to. Right then and there I told him we had agreed to the $1K markup, so he would need to remove the other $3,999 of markup from the actual purchase price. He agreed, and said he'd work it out with the sales manager. Then, the 'shell game' began...he went into the sales manager's office and shut the door, stayed in for about 15 minutes, then came out a proceeded to tell us we must have misunderstood the offer; that they had to mark it up to offset the discounts that the manufacturer had built into MSRP. We reminded him of the prior conversations and that he had shown us the previously agreed price not more than 20 minutes prior, before we came in to sign the papers. He kept insisting that we just didn't understand the offer (gaslighting), so we called BS and left. Had the salesperson been up-front and stated that they would be asking for a $4,999 'market adjustment' when we were checking out the vehicle, that would have been fine - we could have chosen to accept that or to decline the offer. I don't understand why Northwood chooses to play this crappy game of lying about the offer until they get you to sit down to buy, then switching the offer and telling the customer 'You must have misunderstood...'. Unfortunately, this seems to be the prevailing way of hosting sales interactions at most of our local car dealerships. Since then, we've purchased the same make/model vehicle from a dealer outside Humboldt at actual MSRP (no 'market adjustment'). Had Northwood's folks just been up-front about what their actual price, we would have bought it there, and they would have gained a good local customer - but we won't tolerate the lying game that Northwood and so many other dealers seem to think is okay. Worse yet, I'd attempted to follow up with the general manager to discuss the experience, but Northwood's staff 'shields' management from customers and would not let me know who to speak with and would not even tell me the GM's name. As a result, I'll never do business there. read more

I have a 2017 Chevy truck. I bought the truck used. I had not taken it on a trip for a couple of months after purchasing the truck. On the trip I found that when pulling any type of grade the truck would buck and shake when trying to decide whether to shift. It was very noticeable and uncomfortable. As it was still under warranty I took the truck into Northwood for service. They changed the transmission fluid, DID NOT test drive it and did a minor transmission software upgrade. Even thought the truck was well under the 60K drivetrain warranty limit I was charged $160 for the software upgrade. When I picked up the truck the "service manager" said "Understand that we will not address this problem again on your truck." The service had absolutely no effect on the problem. Of course Chevy denies there's a problem. Apparently they do not know how to surf the net to see how many other people are having this problem. They are the absolute worst service department of ANY business I have ever experienced. Rest assured this is the last Chevy pickup I will ever purchase. read more

Called due to some warning lights in my car turning on telling me complete suspension failure. Service stabilitrak system, tried to call due to the urgency of living in the bay area and needing a quick inspection to be done before I have to take the 300 mile drive home. The service advisor told me they won't have an available appointment until next Wednesday and to call the next city over. Wow great service for a gm patron in need of an emergency service. Recently purchased a 2015 Chevy Volt. We walked onto the lot on a Saturday. Adam spent a lot of time with us, explaining the features of the vehicle, test driving, etc. We pretty much knew we wanted that car, but he still took the time to let us look at other vehicles. I came back on Monday morning with my own loan in place. Their finance people were able to beat my loan. The entire process was quick (for a car purchase), painless, and fun. I would DEFINITELY buy from them again. And we love the new car. :) read more

If I could rate zero stars I would. 3 weeks for a safety recall. Incredibly rude service manager Will Mobley. He yelled and blamed the delay on me when his mechanic broke additional devices on my truck. Zero customer service. No status updates. Not even a hello as you walk in not to mention as you stand for five minutes at the counter with no acknowledgement. I will pay to have my truck towed to Redding or Santa Rosa before taking it back to Northwood. read more

Recently we were going on a trip to Spokane, WA and the A/C wasn't working in our older Suburban. Brent got us in very last minute and they fixed the A/C! I've never had such a great experience buying a car! Chris was so helpful. Dmitry worked with us and was great at explaining our options. Chris stayed in contact with us for a week and we were able to find our dream car. We weren't even planning on buying for another couple months but we couldn't pass up the offer they gave us. Chris is not the typical 'car salesman' you would expect. He really wanted us to be happy and wasn't pushy or difficult. He was very knowledgeable and accommodated our many special requests and accessories/specs we wanted and needed. It's been a couple days now and we couldn't be happier with our decision. We went to the lot not completely sold on a Hyundai, and are now in love with our Tucson. It is everything we wanted and more for our growing family. We will continue buying from Northwood for every car we ever need, because we can trust them and they really do sell quality vehicles. My advice to anyone buying a car from Northwood is to go through the car inside and out and press every button and try every feature (like heat and ac etc). AND have a certified NON northwood mechanic look at EVERYTHING because they dont fully inspect cars before they are listed. read more

I wish I could give these guys a zero after doing the recall on the ignition my car was broke down after several phone calls and them telling me it was my problem I took it somewhere else spent 800.00 to try to figure out the problem finally took my car back to them they had it for three days and told me that it was going to be 800.00 to replace the fuse box after paying them 200.00 to diagnose went and got s friend bought a new ignition replaced it ourselfs the car runs great no problems turns out they part we took out of the car is old and they never replaced it not to mention there customer service is very rude I would never go back or buy a car there read more
