Hands down one of the best sushi experiences we've had. We stepped away from the menu and fully trusted Angelo, and he absolutely nailed it. His recommendation of the yellowtail sashimi, the sake, and the appetizers were all perfect--he clearly knows the menu inside and out. Angelo worked seamlessly with Ben, the sushi chef, who brought out incredible off-menu items that were unbelievably fresh and clean. We even told them how we wanted to feel after eating, and Ben adjusted the nigiri for me since I didn't want too much rice--spot on. Can't recommend this place, or Angelo and Ben, enough. Harney's is a spot I've been going to for years. The sushi is always excellent here. I typically get the Dragon Roll and Rolls Royce Roll. Everything is made fresh in front of you if you sit at the sushi bar. All the chefs are attentive and kind. The waitresses take a while to make their rounds sometimes but I feel like that's any place you go to. My brother in law and I also enjoy a large hot Sake every time we go. And when I say hot I mean be careful you'll burn your hand but in a good way. The vibe is very laid back and chill. They go for the energetic music dark place kinda vibe. Visited Harney Sushi in Oceanside with a group of friends on a Saturday evening, and it was absolutely amazing!! Our friends also loved this place and thought the rolls were delicious. My husband has been a loyal patron for 14 years, and it is one of this all time favorite sushi spots. We started with the spicy garlic edamame and it was perfection! We ordered quite a few rolls for our group and our absolute favorite roll was the Chuck Norris roll; we ended up ordering a second one! Close seconds were the Flaming Lip, the James Bond roll, and the Ana Roll. They all had amazing flavor and were just phenomenal! They also have a full bar so you can order any drink you'd like. The ambiance is upscale yet relaxed and the staff was very friendly and helpful! Whether you're a sushi regular or a newcomer, Harney Sushi is a must-visit in Oceanside! We did not try the sushi because we got grossed out by how they have the place, the bathroom and our table was extremely dirty. Pieces of food just laying around in the floor and the people working seem to not really want to be there. My thought process is if that's how little you care of taking care of the tables, I can't imagine what the kitchen looks like. Great sushi and ambiance. I wish the cocktail bar had been opened when we went on Thursday but apparently it's open on Saturday/Sunday. Service was attentive and welcoming although they were super busy! For drinks we ordered the Purple Haze and Lychee Gimlet. Both had good flavor however the purple haze was slightly too thick for me (but they muddle real fresh blackberries so mega points on that!) and the lychee gimlet was a little too sweet (I think taking off the sugar rim would have made it 10/10). We ordered veggie gyoza for app. For me, it fell a little flat and was a bit too greasy, the chili oil on the side gave it a nice flavor-- but with an already greasy gyoza + more oil? I found it was a bit overkill. For entree we ordered the Castillo roll and Bruce Lee roll. I think I messed up on what to order..Both rolls were sooo rich for me, (good but not what I was looking for). I think I preferred the Bruce Lee roll a little more than the other. The Castillo roll good...but I think was way too much overkill with the amount of faux-magi sauce..made it way too sweet! Definitely had to load that bad boy up with wasabi and pickled ginger. I do appreciate how large and filling the rolls were though! We also got an order of the sea bass truffle nigiri and Eel Nigiri. Sea bass truffle nigiri was super bland , the truffle oil was the only thing that made it special. The eel nigiri was very tasty though. Overall 8/10! There were tvs at the bar. We ordered the kids bento for my son and it was a good size. The chicken was too dry for him. We asked for teriyaki sauce but it took a while to get it. We were told that Harney was a good sushi place and had other dishes for people who don't eat sushi in our party. We walked in we were greeted nicely and then Natalie took us to a private room where she served our party so well. Natalie was on point and answered every question we had on the menu. She provided some amazing recommendations. After Natalie took her order. Everything was timed perfectly as she and some of the other staff brought the food into the room. Natalie always had a smile on her face. She was so pleasant and continued to answer questions from the group regarding the type of fish we were being served. We also had a birthday boy in our party and Natalie treated him with grace and care. She recommended the green tea ice cream and some other desserts that were absolutely fabulous. The staff and the ambience at this restaurant is fantastic. However, I feel like their menu is missing opportunities to be a considered a great sushi place. There are a couple of rolls that I enjoy, the sashimi and nagiri is good ...but it is always a hit or miss when I try something off the menu. Quick notes: service is friendly and patient. They can get busy, but they come around and check on you several times throughout your dining experience. Ambience is very sexy, date night BUT the mood can change with the crowd. I have seen families with little kids having just as much fun as couples and singles. Food is fresh and delicious. They bring out dishes as they're ready so things are hot, but this can mean not all food is delivered at the same time. Truthfully, it's not an issue when we go. We appreciate our food always being fresh. Price is pretty on point for sushi in downtown O. In other words a date night for two with appetizers, drinks, and entrees can be ~$150. I found the prices to be extremely reasonable, especially for vegan/specialty options! My friend and I decided to dine at Harney Oceanside before spending the evening walking around the city and the beach. To start, we shared the vegetable tempura appetizer. My friend could not get over the fact that these were completely vegan and we devoured them in minutes! When it was time for rolls, I couldn't choose and ordered the Vegan "OG" AND Tofu Crunch. My wife and I come here very often and have had no problems with this place until now, as soon as we were seated we were greeted by our waiter we noticed our waiter looked a little off, come to find out later she had been drinking while on the job as me and my wife watched her go to the bar and take a shot, she seemed to be lost and forgot half of our order, there was no refills nor utensils either even after asking and when i asked for the check the waiter brought out ice cream for my wife since it was supposedly her "birthday". Everything literally tastes the same. Everything is doused in slightly sweetened sesame oil, so it's palatable in a way where you think it's "good." This place is not good. Sure it's palatable, but it's nowhere near good. This is a sushi restaurant that has orange chicken on their menu. I also ordered $10 sake bombs thinking they're going to come set up sake bombs for us and be with us to guide us through the sake bombs. They did not. They gave us 1 shot of hot sake, which is equivalent to $1.65, and a beer glass filled with 1/3 beer. They left it there on the table and left. $10 for that. Man I dont know. I'm spoiled from studio city sushi choices. This place is very disappointing to anyone who knows sushi. We were browsing yelp for good drinks and sushi and this one checked all our boxes plus they were playing the dodgers game. The drinks were delicious and our server gave great recommendations. The biggest plus was they are open and serve food late (at least on weekends).; we went at 10:30pm. My daughter had the vegan roll which she loved. I had the gyoza which was deep fried as opposed to pan fried and it was a little hard I also had the pirate roll because it was one of the few without Krab, the flavor was great but I didn't like the consistency of the spicy tuna, it was so mushy it was borderline paste. My friend ordered Udon soup but it never came because it turns out the server heard miso and when she brought the miso we thought it was complimentary and when we tried asking the server before taking it she seemed confused. Thank goodness our friend also ordered beef fried rice. The rice was very much like Benihana style not my fave but it was devoured so I guess it was good. Not sure where to begin. To start off the service was not the best, the restaurant was not packed tonight and upon waiting at the hostess stand it took a little over 10 minutes to be seated, nice ambiance going on and the vibe felt more upscale so we were looking forward to the food. We all ordered bento boxes (both me and my dad getting the teriyaki steak, brother ordering the tempura, and mom ordering the chicken katsu). Additionally I ordered a pirates roll, and my parents ordered the spicy tuna crispy rice which is part of the appetizer menu. When the food started coming out is where things start to go downhill.. 3/4 of the bento boxes came out (mine being the only one not to) and we noticed that my dads steak teriyaki had no teriyaki sauce on it, and also everybody's food beside the protein part of the bento box (the edamame, and the sautéed vegetables) were not even warm but cold to the touch. After about 5 minutes after my family's boxes came I asked about mine, the server said it will be a couple more minutes. During this time my sushi roll came, but my parents had still not received their appetizer. About an additional 10 minutes I had finally received my bento box after my whole family had already finished there's. When I got mine my steak at least had teriyaki sauce, but my edamame and sautéed vegetables were so cold I did not eat them. It took me about 15 minutes to eat my box and after we had all finished our bento boxes and my sushi roll is when we received the spicy tuna crispy rice appetizer.. we were never asked how the food was or given any explanation as to what was going on besides the kitchen was slow tonight..needless to say we will NOT be returning read more

It's really easy to sit here and blame the FOH service staff for the wildly underwhelming experience my party had tonight. But I'm not going to do that. Management and ownership are 100% responsible. It seems like it's their core value as management and business owners to continuously not set their staff up for success. Our server(s) were sweet but clearly under a lot of pressure dealing with large, unorganized sections, confusing physical and digital menu protocols (pick one???), on top of a sushi heavy restaurant which always adds an additional time frame to every guest experience. Their lack of staffing, training, and steps of service protocols seem to be on the bottom of their list of priorities when are clearly banking on location convenience and tourist foot traffic instead of quality experiences. Hospitality means nothing to them. Profit over people? Groundbreaking ... What a shame. Maybe it's time for a career change before you fall victim to the "Hello, Betty" curse of Oceanside. read more
