I've been eating at harmony for the past 15 years. I truly feel as the years have passed the quality of the food has reduced gradually. However the last few times I have decided on Harmony is to have them change my mind and that this is not the reality & I'm left unsatisfied wishing for a time when the restaurant was so good I would ditch high school around the corner mid day to go eat at Harmony. Just as of last night I ordered orange chicken white rice egg rolls. Typically when ordering a meal that you were unsatisfied with you would assume the rice was at least decent. The egg roll was the best item and that's not saying much. Chicken was way dry - not even any extra orange sauce at the bottom of the box like they used to have. Secondly, they have definitely changed the rice, it is not the same thicker slightly more stickier white rice you recall from years ago. The price of the sushi here does not match the quality. I ordered three rolls- a dragon roll, a spicy scallop roll, and an avocado roll. The biggest problem by far was that the avocado wasn't ripe, and therefore the flavor and texture wasn't very good. The rice itself was flavorless-- usually sushi rice has some sort of mild acidic flavor. This just tasted like the same rice they used with their Chinese dishes. As i recall rated a high risk and i think they allegedly flunked the second inspection for compliance. Got dinner for the family here about an hour before closing on a Saturday. The food was barely edible; fried dishes were dry and undercooked, and the sauces seemed like a combination of just water and oil. We ended up having to toss $50 worth of food after realizing we could not take any more. I writing this one week after the fact and am still shocked at how Harmony can knowingly sell such disgusting food. With the COVID situation, I have been using Harmony as a change of pace from my own cooking. Food is always ready for pickup as promised. I ordered the spring rolls before my meal and they were just right. Not too over cooked and crispy. For my main course I ordered the Beef Pho. I was disappointed with the garnish plate. The Vietnamese restaurants I've been to typically bring a plate with a generous helping of bean sprouts, sprigs of Asian basil, jalapeño peppers, scallions, and plenty of lime wedges. The garnish plate I received at Harmony had one Asian basil sprig (and it was wilted. Looked like it was sitting out all day), a few slices of jalapeño, no scallions or bean sprouts (to Harmony's defense, the waitress told me that they were out of bean sprouts), and one lime quarter. About 20-25 minutes later, my pho arrived. The first thing I noticed was the color of the broth. It was a deep brown (probably from beef bullion). Most pho broths that I have seen are clear but I I figured that everyone has their own way of making it. The determining factor would be the taste. The broth tasted like it was from bullion cubes but overall did not lack flavor. The noodles were firm and the beef was juicy. Perhaps if I had more garnishes to add the pho would have tasted better. I wouldn't mind returning again but it is not likely that I will order anything from their Vietnamese section. read more

I heard the negative publicity about this place but with all the great reviews I decided against better judgement and wanted to try it out. I was shocked when I received my food. I ordered orange chicken and my wife ordered Mongolian beef. The chicken breading was very loose and the chicken was very chewy. I had a few bites and was not able to go further. The sauce was ok with slices of orange peel and broccoli. The Beef was very fatty and the portions was small. The only good thing in the order was the rice. Will not be back. read more

This place does not disappoint! I haven't had a dish yet that I was not in love with, seriously! If you are in the area must tries, Salt & Pepper Shrimp, Curry Noodles, and Kao Pao Shrimp. Am I missing something here? When did greasy uncooked vegetables, in a sauce made from sugar, corn starch and water, qualify as Chinese food? I actually poured the extra grease into my tea cup, I didn't drink the tea because the cup had an onion stuck to it. The oil filled the cup, I then became more obsessed with the oil than eating and looked for more creative ways to exploit it. I pushed my tofu and vegetables over to one side and tipped the plate, allowing the fat to pool at one side, in all the cup holds 3 ounces, another 2 ounces accumulated in the pool that's a lot of fat. Normally I don't count calories, I will eat chicharones, pork belly sammies, fat just doesn't bother me, this bothered me. The other dish was sweet and sour chicken, 90% breading, 75% sweet and enough red dye #12 to recreate the beach scene in Saving Private Ryan. A repulsive dish, even when things go right with sweet and sour chicken I am not interested, this was bad. I am giving one star for the Kitchen staff listening to WXRT, although that may have been the reason for such bad food, maybe the American dishwasher cooked the food during the Chefs break? read more

I used to work in an office about two doors down from this place, so I was there all the time. The food is really good, but for some reason the place is NEVER packed. I think at most I've seen 10 other people in there around lunchtime. Maybe because it's kinda big for a chinese joint, who knows. Don't let all the empty tables fool you though. One day I want to go with a big group of people, they have a huge table there that probably seats 10-12, and it looks like the "cool people" would sit there. Kinda like the cool table in high school. I never got to sit there. Damn jocks and preps. And I never got to sit in the back of the bus. I think at best I was in the 4th row from the back. Only once did I sit in the very last seat...the bus driver flew past my stop and dropped me off last. So no one got to see me in the back of the bus. It still counts though. read more

Let me start by saying I've never actually eaten in here, always take out or delivery. The ordering and delivery service here is great. On Fridays I'll get put on hold, but that's usually because everything in the Clear-Ridge area is out for pizza or chinese. Go figure. However, tonight the experience was especially lovely, and my order was taken in record time, repeated back to me, and the guy on the other end gave me my total before hanging up. Normally you have to ask for a total--it's a nice perk knowing what you'll own the guy before he gets there. Delievery times are usually right on the money, if not a little earlier. Tonight it took forever, and the delivery driver even apologized for the wait, but offered no explanation. Kinda makes me wonder if my order was lost, but it also could have been a train. Whatevs. Not gonna fret about it. Egg rolls are always, always good. I usually judge a chinese place on their egg rolls and these are superb. Their food is always cooked to perfection, too. I prefer the Harmony combinations: chicken, beef, and shrimp. For chop suey or lo main, especially, they're good deals. $9 for all that? Yes please! They also load you up on soy sauce, hot mustard, sweet & sour, and fortune cookies. We ordered for two people and there must have been 10 fortune cookies in the bag. Because we were new to the 'hood, a few weeks ago we got a coupon for a free dinner in the mail. Free entree up to $10. Very little on the menu goes past the $10 mark, so it's a damn good deal! Their smoothes are really, really good. Whole chunks of fresh fruit mixed it! WHOLE. PIECES. OF. FRUIT!!! Genius! I haven't tried them all, but so far the ones I have tried have been amazing. Each has been worth the $3 price tag. All the staff members I've encountered have been more than helpful and really "on". For good chinese, REALLY good chinese, I'll go to my favorite restaurant, but for a local place--especially in a 90% Polish neighborhood, this is some darn good eatin'. read more

Harmony has very tasty dishes. They took over some years ago from another family business that just simply didn't care what they served. Favorite dishes: Egg rolls, crab Rangoon, sweet and sour chicken, beef ,and broccoli, Kung Pao, and egg foo yung (any type). Yes, it is main stream but good and hot and fresh. This was the worst dining experience I've ever had. I should have turned around & walked out the door the moment I walked in, but we were in a group & this was where we decided to go for a birthday celebration dinner. When we walked in we were "greeted" by a woman with a terrible attitude, who when we told her how many were in our party, just gestured rudely to the dining room & mumbled something like "sit there". Whenever I order Chinese food, I order the same thing, every place I go... Vegetable Lo Mein. I have had lo Mein at many, many Chinese restaurants & I know what lo Mein is. What came out of the kitchen, I didn't even recognize as lo Mein. So much so, that I actually left it on the table, thinking it was someone else's dish & waited for the lo Mein to come out. When I asked my friend who's dish that was, he replied that it was mine & that he was wondering why I hadn't touched it. Visually, the noodles were thinner than angel hair & the sauce was clear. I have never seen lo Mein like that. I took a bite & it was bland, tasteless, & the noodles were like plastic. I didn't eat any more than the one bite. When the waitress came by to check if everything was ok, I told her no, the meal wasn't right. She actually had the nerve to ARGUE with me, saying that I ordered lo Mein & this was lo Mein. I replied that whatever it was, I didn't like it. She said "well, do you want something else?" No, not from this establishment. When the bill came, we fully expected NOT to see the lo Mein on the bill, but sure enough, there it was! We were all mortified. There are so many things wrong with Harmony, that it is unredeemable. My beef fried rice was burned, ordered a large noodles and was only filled half way (bet because I said easy on the onions), sure I ordered spicy basil fried rice, but to burn the s*&t out of me, ....... and I really don't want to start on the egg rolls...... seriously, if it wasn't for the fabulous orange and Hawaiian chicken, I 'd start looking for other places, even if I have to travel to LaGrange......
