pretty pour service here vs other harbor freights in my area , I've bought a lot of toolboxes from hf over the years, all of which have had the pallet on the bottom side of the box when taken out of the Backroom. mine was tipped on its side by one employee and thrown onto the hydraulic table they used to load into my truck , the cardboard it came in had a huge rip in it because of this, luckily he just hit the side bumpers and no damage to the actual toolbox was done. ( only reason I looked was because it was so loud slamming on there) Other than that they are super reluctant to help.Items are often mispriced and they don't honor whats on the shelf(not just one they've had a whole basket full of "3.99 bits that ended up being 12.99" . I love Harbor Freight although you definitely need to understand their strengths and weaknesses before going in. Their prices are incredible but that comes at a price. I typically shop there for tools that I need once for a particular job but don't need them to be durable for daily use. That has saved me hundreds over the years. For electronics or complicated items that are prone to failure I typically make the investment elsewhere but for most things Harbor Freight is my first stop. The staff is very helpful and friendly - No one else was in line at my last visit and the cashier started chatting with me about Motorcycles (I was buying a lift) and I really enjoyed the banter. I docked one star for the occasional item that goes wrong due to the cheapness of the construction (like a battery tender that boiled my battery) but I should have used my own guidelines to invest in such an important item elsewhere. read more

Harbor Freight is my favorite hardware store. They consistently have the best prices, good enough quality, and not the huge, huge layout of Home Depot and Lowe's, which are more appealing when doing large shoppings, but when only looking for a few things... they really aren't ideal. This Harbor Freight is much better than the other locations anyway. Friendly employees, cleaner, more organized, and the exterior and parking lot just got a much needed makeover. Harbor Freight is great if you need really cheap basic tools, like sockets, etc. But for nothing else (including customer service). I learned this the hard way. I needed a grinder for a small project, so I bought it here. I was planning on keeping it, but when I unpacked it one of the grinder wheels was completely broken. This had me scared, because I don't want to be buying another grinder a few months down the line. I was able to complete my small project with the other wheel, and went back the next day to return it, and was planning on getting a better one at home depot or lowes. I went in and said I wanted to return it (with the broken wheel) and they asked me for my receipt. I didn't have the receipt and they would not accept my return. The guy even remembered me buying it the day before but acted like I was somehow trying to screw them over. I think it is ridiculous and stupid when stores REQUIRE a small piece of paper when they remember you buying it and treating you like a criminal. I am a usual customer at this store (well, no longer) and they are haggling over a cheap $30 grinder. It is very rare that I experience this anymore at stores. I will never shop here again. I will spend the extra $ and go to Lowes. read more

This might be unusual, but I really, really like hardware stores. I find them fascinating. The endless possibilities of modifying one's home and the equipment that exists is a combination I cannot resist. Especially the tools that are so specific for one particular use that I absolutely must have it even if I will only use it once. Take for example: a tile grout remover or--a carpet cutter. Not just one, but a selection of cutters meant only for carpets. I am enthralled. This store is brand new, and is bright and shiny. Hopefully the cleanliness and the enthusiastic friendliness of the staff will last, since right now it is a wonderful thing to see. I found that and the prices to be better than at the big, better known hardware stores. I will definitely be back. Those carpet cutters are calling my name. read more

First, this is a chain store. Second, I went to the one in Amherst NH Due to my handy-ladiness, I actually know my tools. And cheap is what you are getting here... I have had wrenches snap on me, and things that just don't work. I after my last purchase, I have learned just don't buy here. You are getting what you paid for if not less. Oh and if they don't have it, you can probably find it at Walmart or a real store like HD or Sears/Craftsman Last item I got was a $30 solar cell phone charger... ah go figure, doesn't work! And not here I am with something I can't return as I'm out of the country for the next month. (For those less brilliant, the sun doesn't change like voltage in foreign countries.) I will say this place is great for tie downs and some quick magnetic trailer lights, but it ends there... I prefer now to buy tools from HD, Lowes or Craftsman. If I need something very specific I'll order it from a specialty company or Granger. Also, the layout SUCKS... I just plain don't get it. I have to ask what I'm looking for. The only thing consistent is that if it has a plug on the end, they seem to be all lumped together on the side wall... If you consider yourself handy or semi pro.... I'll save you the fuel and don't even bother turning the wheel to look... keep going! Parking is ample. Staff is semi competent. They know what a screwdriver is. Harbor Freight has all kinds of tools. They used to be really cheap..price and quality. Their quality has gone up, but be careful what you buy. It is hard to go into this store and not buy something. I have had pretty good luck. They aren't pro quality for most items and they won't last forever, but they get the job done cheaply. Garbage customer service. I called and asked if i could exchange an item (bought the day before) they said yes if i bring the receipt. I drove 30 minutes for the same guy i spoke to on the phone to tell me he couldn't exchange it..... i called 3 other harbor freight stores in MA for all of them to tell me that i 100% can exchange the item. HFT rocks. My favorite store, a candy store for grown men. I shop at the Amherst, NH store. Tools are of homeowner quality. Don't know if I'd try to make my living with these tools, but most are certainly good enough for average Joe. Customer service has always been excellent. If you want cheap tools, then this place is it! As long as you know what you are getting, Harbor Freight is a great store. If you want a tool that you can use everyday or maybe lasts 10 years, then don't buy it from here. If you are someone who has a need for a tool either on intermittent basis or a one time project, then the tools for harbor freight will serve your needs well. I even had my contractor suggest it as "If you need it once or twice a year, then it's perfectly fine.". Crap Products at low prices. Spent 4 hours hooking up a new well pump and properly priming it according to the directions as to not damage the pump. Hooked it up, submerged the impeller, went to plug it in and all I heard was humming. The contactor kicked in but the impeller was not turning. I tried to free the impeller but could not. Went to return the product at Harbor Freight Natick where I was met by rude employees who obviously thought I was trying to pull something over on them. I showed them the receipt and that I bought it YESTERDAY EVENING, and they told me they can not take back the product once it was opened. I said the THING DOES NOT WORK RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX!!! They said, "store policy" with undertones of satisfaction knowing it bothered me. They handed me a 4" x 4" pc of paper with a phone number on it and told me I had to call that number. So I went to my car grabbed my phone and brought it back to the check-out area so their other customers could hear the wonderful new "Customer Friendly" things Harbor has to offer. Usually you expect to get what you pay for from Harbor, a pc of crap tool that costs 50% of the price of a real product, that has 25% of the life span of a real tool. But this product had 0% life span and cost me $150.00, they were not even willing to budge to help or lift a finger to support. Recommend you spend the extra to go to Lowes or Home Depot or Tractor Supply to get you equipment. What an nasty lot these people are. read more

Wonderful experience at Harbor Freight in Natick MA today. Took in a piece of equipment (that I purchased elsewhere years ago) and asked for advice on the correct replacement parts. If you are in the market for garbage this place sells lots of it. I purchased a battery power pack to jump start cars a while back. In all the craziness of life I admit I lost the charger. I came back and ask the rep if they had one or could direct me where to buy one. I was met with a " We don't sell that model any longer". When I asked the manager if he could direct me where to buy one I was given the typical answer "no" I now have a 30 pound piece of trash that I can't recharge or use. The easy lesson is spend a little more and go to the Home Depot 50 feet down the street. They will at least stand behind EVERYTHING they sell you. read more

I am extremely disappointed with both the tool I bought and the customer service when I took it back. I purchased a 1/2 " electric impact wrench last fall but didn't use it until this spring. Right out of the box it didn't work. The motor goes but it doesn't turn the anvil. Seems like a simple problem but when I went back to the store I was treated well by the cashiers who, because it had been more than 90 days since I purchased it, called the manager who was in the back room. The manager refused to even come out and talk. I didn't expect much but for a tool that doesn't work right out of the box you would think Harbor Freight would be interested in what was going on. So I went home and manually did the lug nuts but discovered the front roller on my Harbor Freight jack (about 1 year old) is no longer turning. Two bad tools and a terrible customer service experience adds up to 3 strikes. I will never shop at or recommend Harbor Freight again. read more
