4/10/24 Neat & organized . When you are shopping around for home & gardening stuff, there's Home Depot & Lowe's....then there's either Ace or Harbor Freight. Unfortunately Ace is nowhere near Montclair so we check out this Harbor Freight closest to our home. It's a much smaller scale operation than the 2 big named home stores so the inventory is just as limited. We took a few minutes & saw their kinds of garden hoses & decided we're heading to Lowe's. Harbor Freight #0031 Manager/ Christian Christian is a true customer service driven store manager. After purchasing an item, (over $100), I encountered an issue when assembling it. I brought it in to the store for a refund. Christian was very curteous and extremely helpful. I explained the difficulty I had in the assembly, due to the tolerances not lining up. Not only did he give suggestions, but asked if I would mind trying it out, I agreed. With his help and some effort, the piece fit. Item was not returned for a refund and is functioning properly. A white woman cashier took off her mask and sneezed into her hands while my dad was trying to pay. Instead of putting the mask back on she threw it into the trash. Then she asked for a phone number. When my dad told her he didn't have one, a male employee asked "Do you need help" in a loud and unfriendly voice - towards the woman. Yes, she needs help - to be reminded to put on her mask and stop putting lives at risk! Clearly, these two employees are not following the CDC guidance promised by Eric Schmidt on Harbor Freight's website. There have been multiple microaggressions at this store, from unfriendly service to demands for phone numbers from POCs and not white folks in line. My dad got multiple scam calls after sharing his number. Suffice to say, we are never, ever coming here again. read more

Terrible service from Assistant Manager Raul and cashiers. First Raul the assistant manager. As he was called in to review a recalled product, he hastily addressed my concern and proceeded to walk off as I started to talk to him. I had to tell him to not leave because I was talking to him. Typical immature behavior consistent with Junior High Students. The cashiers were a little disrespectful and condescending in the way the address people. Their conduct of disrespect and their condescending behavior cause me to return the recalled item. I believe behavior runs from the top I have observed and spoken to the store manager regarding out-of-stock items. I believe he is very immature and unprofessional to properly train his assistant manager and associates. I have been a customer since 1995. I will not return to that store. Harbor Freight has a Recall for 3 and 6 tons Jack Stands, I return my 3 ton for an exchange. But in order to be able I was told I needed to pay $5.00 because it was a different jack Stan and a different manufacturer, ( wich I hoped it was) since I didn't have to have the same problem When I asked why I had to pay $5.00 since it was a recall? The reply was.":I just follow directives and a I don't make the rules!!!. I ask to speak to the store manager, however he was not available. So if you are returning your Jack Stands, be ready to pay for it. Customer service was good. No problem with that. But I think Harbor Freight can do better for this recall. If you've ever been to a Harbor Freight, you pretty much know what to expect. For the uninitiated, I hope my comments provide some help for navigating the waters. The store itself: This is one of the worse stores for customer service in general, and the Montclair location seems to been particularly bad even compared to other Harbor Freights. Don't go with the idea that an employee will be able to answer questions about their products, or make suggestions on this vs. that. The employees seem to barely know where something is in the store in general, let alone have any working knowledge of the product they are selling. They are all pretty much just stockers and/or checkers. Products: If you've ever bought anything from Harbor Freight, you probably know what to expect in terms of quality. This isn't Snap On, it's not even Black and Decker, but there are some gems that make it worth shopping here. In general, the rule for most tool purchases here is: If it's a tool I'm going to use maybe twice in a year and the cost is less than renting said tool for a day, instabuy. If it's something you will use a few times every month, don't do it. If you are a tradesman and your tools are how you earn your living, there are very few things here that are worth your time. An exception to the above rule is: air tools. I have used the Chicago Pneumatic air tools for years, and have never had a tool break on me. An air motor is a very simple mechanism that is easy to produce and keep running well. Just make sure to oil them and they will last a long time. Most of the air tools are either exact rip offs of the name brand products, or just Chicago labeled items from the same factory making the name brand version. Don't buy a compressor here though. The other exception is casters. They have great prices on casters, and the quality is as good as anywhere else. I have several shop tables on heavy duty casters and on average I've paid 1/2 for the Habor Freight casters. On top of it, the selection can't be beat by any other B&M store. They have pneumatic casters, soft rubber, hard rubber, steel, and a wide variety of sizes. Their dollies are also very low priced and of good quality, especially when it's not a continuous use type of item. Sometimes it's even cheaper to buy a dolly (depending on the sale) and remove the casters than to buy the casters individually. Other than that, I go with the infrequent use rule. Harbor Freight isn't the worst thing in the world. Use their site and read the reviews before you go to the store, and use your own common sense when you are checking something out in person. If it will see frequent use, and feels like a cheap piece of junk, don't waste your money. I also generally stay away from their consumables (sand paper, etc) and find the lacking quality not worth the savings. read more

I've made purchases at the Chino store before but this time I needed an item they didn't have in Chino. The Montclair store had three different brands of what I needed. As a DIYer, I love Harbor Freight. I would give them 5 stars but the staff could not answer several questions I had about the item I was buying and other tools. They are a great store! You get your moneys worth but i wouldn't buy anything with out a coupon for sure! The staff is great, from being polite, helpful, greeting you, and offering to help I've never had a problem here and the store has always been clean through out my visits in the last few years. One problem through covid has been the placement of the lines is right through the hand tools isles it's frustrating when you need something. Push the line to that far corner away from the isles since I've never seen anyone walk in that area anyway other then that I seriously have no complaints. Not the greatest tools in the world but a lot of them have lifetime warranty, and at affordable prices; I'll take my chance for now. The customer service is good here. There isn't many workers but they help the best they can. I love how they have so many affordable tools here, I don't expect them them to last long and that's ok. I have craftsman and snap on tools at home but with harbors lifetime warranty on Pittsburg tools too, I'm willing to try them out too. Never had a problem here and shop was always nice and organized. Value. They may not sell the absolute best quality, or have the variety of, hardware and tools, but quite frankly for most of us non-pros we don't need that stuff anyway. So Harbor Freight is there to supply us plebeians with the tools we like to play with to make ourselves feel cool. Their everyday prices are low, but their sales are awesome. $10 for a heat gun? I don't think I would come here without coupons though. A women that works here found my wallet and returned it with out my cash $145 in it Friday 11/06 around 5 pm. She was wearing a harbor freight shirt I remember her behind me at the dollar store. When I asked the guy at the dollar store "who happen to return it" he said a women from harbor frieght said "she saw me drop it but was too late to let me know it had fallen" which is impossible because I spent about an hour at the store so I was literally walking around so if I dropped it she'd have more then enough time to tell me it had fallen. Went here to buy a workbench because was told this store still had 2 left in inventory. I arrived within 19 minutes and was immediately told they had no more by a rude sales person standing around talking to another sales person at the checkout line while a long line of OpenPlay stood in line trying to checkout. This sales person essentially wasted my time coming in a rude tone, like I was bothering him by interrupting his conversation with his fellow associate. The cashier was able to help me get coupons for all of the products I purchased by showing me how to go online on my phone and get the codes for the discounts that applied to my purchase. I didn't know how to do this since it was my first time shopping there so that was a huge help. I was also told about the return policies in detail.
