I came here looking for 3/8 stainless bolts in a certain length. The owner came out and helped me for 20 minutes to find $6 worth of bolts. The store itself is just wonderful. It's so refreshing to have a smaller-business, old-school alternative to the corporate entities from which we are led to believe we must buy hardware. I love the detailed selection, countless items you'd never find at a chain store. Generally, attentive service is available here, unlike at a certain well-known home improvement "depot", which we are all familiar with. A drawback here is the hours. They close at 5 on weekdays, 12 on Saturdays, so it's hard for many working folks to get in when need arises. Not all prices are marked, which complicates the shopping process. Imagine stepping back into the past going into an independent auto parts store or Ace Hardware from the Midwest in the 70's. I could easily spend a few hours just wandering the aisles in this store. If you need hardware, stop wasting your time at Lowe's and HD by going to McFadden Dale. They have bolts, tools, safety products and paint accessories, this is a tremendous hardware store that is what a hardware store is supposed to be. Staff are so helpful, the guy at the counter didn't even charge me for screws I badly need to install Ring video doorbell. BTW the 2 screws I got for free cost $3.99 at HomeDepot. It's easy to forget this place exists if you've only been here once or twice and Home Depot a hundred times. The home store will do for most of your needs. If you have a need for an item (screw, bolt, fastener, bit..etc) you should definitely check this place out! All three times I needed something that wasn't available at the big store and would have been a special online order w/ shipping cost, I stopped here. All three times have been a success. The staff is awesome in helping navigate the store and trying to meet you need. When my project absolutely needs to be done within a limited window, I stop here. It's set back in a complex. I really wanted to spend time writing this review because this is one of the best experiences I have ever had at a hardware store. I am not sure if everyone is as kind, professional and hardworking as Mike was for me but I have never felt more compelled to write a review than now for any establishment let alone a hardware store. I came in with pretty much an impossible mission. I purchased a product overseas that had missing parts and I basically needed to fabricate the parts since the manufacturer did not want to support me. Either way, my client needed the unit installed and the parts were not working. If this unit did not get assembled I would have lost the job and ultimately a client. Let me preface this by saying I am a computer geek. I have no knowledge whatsoever about hardware. I can barely screw in a lightbulb and that's not a joke. Mechanical dexterity is not a skill I've inherited or even remotely capable of. Let me also state I went to Ace, Lowe's and Home Depot and no-one could help me. let alone even remotely tried. I actually took almost an hour to find anyone that would help me there. Mcfadden Dales was nothing like this. I walked into their location and immediately everyone offered a smile and help. It was then I found Mike or as in the case of most great customer service experiences...Mike found me. Mike looked at my problem and knew exactly what I needed he helped me look for the right parts and when the right part could not be found he came up with another solution. Mike kept going and just about when I felt I overstepped the time I had taken of his he continued to want to help me find what I needed for my solution. He was persistent and tenacious! My problem became his and I felt he was truly invested in my issue. When Mike was done... The parts worked better than the manufacturer's parts and it took a lot of elbow grease to get things going but Mike just smiled and tackled all my problems. If Mike is a reflection of the great service this place is and I did have some good conversation with people in the store who all seemed to be more than happy to assist. So I assume most are as amazing as Mike. I think I got lucky with Mike and I will not waste my time going to another hardware store again. This is the place to go if you don't want to waste your time, your money and could use some assistance and you will undoubtedly get more than what you came for and more service than what you would ever expect from a hardware store. This place rocks! I detest going to home depot. Where Lowes is tolerable, this place is awesome. They have tools, they have hardware, they have what you need to fix what you have. They are my playground, and eternal wish list store. I like that they don't have washers, dryers , sofas, plants. They are hardcore hardware with things I needed for past projects, that took me hours of driving to find elsewhere. As far as hatdware, if you need it, they probably have it. These are generally considered legendary hardware stores and most of them are gone or a mere shadow of what they once were. Welcome to making things and making things work in post Lowharbordepot world. You can't find what you need to make the parts that you can't find to fix or make whatever. I was told about Mcfadden Dale a couple years ago and for one reason or another never went until recently. The first guy I asked said ok how many I said 8 ok brings them out , my mouth dropped dammm I say well ok I take them 9 cents each. I asked for for 000 brillo pad found, asked for parts to build a wallet chain found , scratch pads for iron works in reddish color found .Dammm even a great attitude from all the 4 guys who helped me . This place has quality hardware. I needed some material for a home job that I could not find anywhere locally (Home Depot, Lowe's etc.). When I went to McFadden's they had almost everything I needed in stock. In fact, I called before hand and they checked the shelves to even verify the specifications on some hardware. When I arrived, there were a few items not in stock. The additional items they did not have, they quickly ordered them for me and were very customer friendly. Legit hardware store with pretty much anything you can ever think of! Customer service is great....We have only been here on two separate occasions (I think because it's instinct to go to Home Depot or Harbor Freight first) but they have a ton of stuff! We usually don't even bother looking around....We just go to the main counter and tell them what we need. This last visit though, they didn't carry what my fiancé was looking for. However, they found something that was comparable and did a demo of the product showing how quickly it dried and how easy it was to remove it. Sold! My shop is 1.5 miles from Lowes but I drive down to the Ontario McFadden Dale at least 3 times a week. It's kind of like Toys R Us for dudes. We opened our shop up here in Upland about three years ago and the guys in Ontario have saved our butts several times. They are also opened Saturdays till noon which helps. Ya, this place is pretty bitchen. Very Old School. A while back I owned an Italian Shifter Kart. All the hardware was metric. A kart retailer in Corona advised me to go to McFadden Dale's for my hard to find nuts and bolts. I did, and now I practically live there. I've never understood why most hardware stores keep so few metric sizes on hand, after all, most vehicles on the road today use them. I found extremely hard to find 4mm button head bolts, that I could only find online, or at specialty shops at a much higher price. They have bolt varieties I didn't even know existed. They also have a lot of graded bolts for more critical applications. I even bought spindle bearing for my kart. SPINDLE BEARINGS!! Other items I've bought include tubing, threaded rod (graded), eye bolts, clamps, springs (they have a full wall of springs), etc.. You'll pay a bit of a premium for some of the stuff, but like another reviewer said, it's better then burning gas, driving all over town for the same part. If your a DYI type, this is the hardware store for you. read more
