Twelve stars for Daniel's service! I was installing some running boards on my car- 1 bolt was stuck TIGHT-- I tried the basic tools I had at home to no avail. I went to Home Depot- no one could help me/ one guy told me I needed to go to a mechanic and shouldn't bother trying to install parts by myself. (I'm a girl, but I can't say for sure that was the reason- I very obviously don't know a lot about tools, just enough to get by/ change my own tire or fix a leaky faucet) I went to Harbor Freight-- I explained to both employees (Daniel and a super helpful girl- didn't get her name) on duty what the issue was. They responded in Unison- "you need a bolt extractor" I asked if he could come look at the bolt on my car to confirm-- he said yes and came to check it. He took the bolt extractor to make sure it fit. We went inside, I paid for the tools and without hesitation Daniel went back out to my car, laid on the ground and extracted the bolt for me. The staff at this location is extremely helpful. I was looking for something that appeared to be sold out, but the manager at the store went to their warehouse and located the clamps I was looking for. He followed up assisting me by walking throughout the whole store to make sure customers were satisfied and were able to find what they were looking for. The ladies at the registers were also polite and professional as they handled the various transactions. I was introduced to Harbor Freight about three years ago. I used to shop at Lowe's, Home Depot and Sears as I was a Name Brand buyer. Now that some tools are not used but a couple of times a month or year, why spend three time the amount. SHORT SHORT VERSION: Cheap Disposable Tools. They get the job done and last a while if you don't use them very often. So I am still giving it 4 stars because I know what I am buying. If I were to compare this place to Home Depot or Lowes it would not be fair. The quality of product is not the same. However even the cheap stuff isn't all that bad. I do like the fact they have coupons that can make cheap crap even cheaper. I have had several tools that break under used, or need to be modified, but then there are a bunch of tools that handle just fine under normal wear and tear. Almost every ratchet clamp (12"-24") has broken, but with a couple screws in the proper place, I am able to make it stronger and more durable when they do break. I had a screwdriver that when i tried to tighten a screw anything past lightly snug, the plastic grip rotated around the screwdriver shaft. But then I have products like a vise, and that is just bulletproof, it is so sturdy I can't seem to break it even when I use it to hold weird objects I'm working on. Like any place if you know what it is, and what to buy there and what to avoid you can be a very happy customer. Lastly, waxes, and car care products(name brand stuff) are more expensive here than local auto parts store or big chains like Target/Wal-Mart. read more

There are so many repairs that I considered calling a handyman or a repair person to do, but instead I would just come here and purchase the tool necessary to do the repair and inevitably save myself hundreds and hundreds of dollars. Without Harbor Freight I could never consider doing this because the purchase of the two of us would just be too expensive. I've noticed on other reviews that people complain about their return policy. However, I've never needed to return anything and everything I have purchased has worked without a problem.
