My mom is in town from AZ helping me organize, decorate, & build so we needed several random items (& a couple of trips to this store) & they made us feel beyond welcome, (& like friends) & helped with ideas as well as how to execute them, &&& they advised us both to become members (which we did). Great selection, service and value. Make sure you sign up for the points card prior to purchases. I'm not a handy person. They were quite helpful in selecting what need for my project. Costs seems reasonable and feels like you're shopping local. Selection is quite large given the small size. Depends upon what you want though. Plenty of parking. read more

I may 71 year-old senior with bladder issues. They refused to let me use the restroom when asked three of their attendance they refused stating is not Republic use and they made me go next-door. I purchased over $113 with a products and they still refused then use the restroom. This is terrible. Unacceptable. They have a restroom they let their customers use it. I will not go there anymore and purchase anything till they rectify this issue. read more

This place is MAGIC. It's a vortex of awesomeness and weird. Okay, yeah, you got your normal hardware store here. Your nails and your gaskets and your toilet seats and whatnot. But what you REALLY want to go for is the random merchandise offerings: In the past few weeks, I have purchased a light-up beanie, a pair of Christmas socks, and an office chair seat cushion (cheaper than online, btw). There's a table out, with just, like. . .stuff. It matters that the staff are super-helpful and knowledgeable. They will direct you right to your plumbing chain or your yard stick, and they are personable, too. But PLUS! There is the PARROT! A real live green parrot! IT TALKS TO YOU. This is the most amazing hardware store I have ever been to. Does anyone remember the old US Post Office annex in the Riviera Village (Bull Pen parking lot)? And how weird that place was (like you could pick up some bear spray and a beaded necklace)? This is kind of like that. There is a bird in the store. Yes, Paco the parrot. He hangs out in the back by the key area. At first I was kind of sad because he wasn't on his perch in the aisle. But then I realized he was sleeping by the wall. I crept up slowly to take a photo without disturbing him, but he somehow knew I was there and opened one beady eye to look at me. Haha. The guy behind the key counter was really nice. Too bad they didn't have the key that we needed for an Acura Integra, so we needed to go to a key smith somewhere else. read more

I decided to come into this business due to the fact that I had searched online for businesses that program and cut those electronic car keys. I was quite surprised when this place came up, because mostly you would expect to go to someplace like a locksmith or something like that. But, I was really glad that I chose to have the key made at this business. First of all, they are all very nice inside this establishment. Plus, they made the key at a much more reasonable price than every other place I had contacted. So, if you're looking to get one of those electronic keys made for your car, I recommend this business. Went in to get a plastic clip. One Employees talking to customers didn't ask me if I needed any help the other employee in the back ignored me. I went to the front counter complaining that no one wanted to help me they said they where short staff but they where all just talking to each other. After giving them business for 13 years, now every time I enter, I am immediately followed by the manager (short, older man with cap) as if I am a criminal. I am immediately asked if I need help (despite other customers in store not being followed or asked for help). If I say NO, he still lurks right by me until I leave. I feel like they want me to GET MY STUFF AND GET OUT. So, from now my business goes to Lowes. I can drive there and browse in peace, if needed. read more

This is the place for door and window screens. I've had a couple repaired here and I'm always amazed at how nice a new screen looks. These guys do a great job and stand behind their work. Mike went above and beyond to repair my screen door with doggie door. I also go here for lots of hardware, lawn care, pest control needs, etc. Great staff, always super helpful. read more

Pick up item was cancelled after waiting an hour. Item was marked in stock, then after waiting an hour my order was cancelled. I could have gone to across town to the big box store and been home with what I needed, instead Woods Ace Hardware wasted my time, and now I STILL have to drive across town to get what Woods Ace Hardware told me was in stock. This review is regarding a specific visit. I've enjoyed this place in the past. I walked in at 8:30am. I was the only customer. Three men were standing in the main area loudly discussing politics. That wasn't what got me so much as their language. Every other word was "F#" (F# this and F# them) and the word "Sh!%" peppered each sentence. They never addressed me as I walked past and when I went to look for an employee to help me find the item I needed, it turned out THEY WERE the employees! Furthermore, when I approached them for help, they stopped talking and (arms crossed) looked me without saying a word like I was interrupting. I apologized for interrupting them and asked where I'd find the item. All I got was an "Aisle 5" (or whatever) and they went back to their talk of politics. Well, excuse me for shopping. I know it's a free country, but can't you let the salty language fly in the break room instead of on the floor? And how about some basic customer service? Nothing special needed, but 'hello' would be nice. VERY DISAPPOINTING. I imagine the Ace company wouldn't be happy with this either and its tempting to notify them. For the record, cursing isn't something I worry much about, but in this case it was incredibly crude on every level. Super crass. read more

My new "go to" in general and especially versus the big home improvement stores... We need to support these smaller businesses, before the giant corporate chains leave us with no options. I had visited another Ace, closer to my home, looking for Big Green Egg parts. Ace is a distributor. After being misled on the phone and making an unnecessary trip, I sat in their parking lot looking for an alternate and eventually called Wood's. Ryan is the man, he knew exactly what I was looking for and made the whole process of rebuilding my parents 50 year old Hibachi Pot (predecessor to the Egg) fast and easy. Woods Hardware has been a fixture here for all of the 70 years that I've been alive. They must be doing SOMETHING right! I grew up here in Torrance, just two blocks away. I remember when Woods Hardware was across the street and there was no such thing as "Ace" involvement. That having been said, the Ace network has benefited them with access to things like duplicating car keys with computer chips (ChipKeys or KeyFobs) in them that car dealers charge up to $500 for. And GUESS WHAT? Woods price is only a QUARTER of that! They look at your current key, and if not in stock will order the blank for any model car. It takes a few days, but what's the rush for a spare key anyways? And for your regular hardware needs they have most of what the big box stores offer, just not as large a selection for Lumber, brick, and garden. And for anyone living in the Seaside Ranchos or sleepy Hollow area, it sure beats a drive to the "other guys". read more

This place is awesome. Specifically, the staff are incredibly helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. Unlike Home Depot, you never have to search for help or be ignored. Every employee here will go out of their way to answer your questions or help you figure out the needs of your project. Regardless of your project, they have someone on staff that can help figure it out (electrical, plumbing, mechanical, etc..). I have been going there for years and have never been disappointed. My most recent experience involved a sliding security screen door from hell. The door, which was about 20 years old had a proprietary lock built into it. The housing for the lock broke and the door was nearly impossible to slide open or shut. The door itself was in really good shape, but the lock and wheels were done. Unfortunately, the lock was no longer being produced and I was looking at the potential of spending $400-500 in a replacement slider. Fortunately, Mike jumped in and re-engineered the door and made it work. He went above and beyond to figure it out. Not only did he do an outstanding job, but saved me hundreds of dollars from having to buy a new security slider. Thanks Mike!! This place is a gem.... read more

This place is terrible. I took something to be altered, and they altered it wrong then in taking it back to be fixed, they didn't do it right and charged me again. In taking it back a third time they were extremely rude and did not fix it correctly... They treat their employees, terribly, treat their customers terribly, and I've recently found out that they sell items that promote certain violent, angry groups. Not going to say exactly what groups I'm speaking of but you can look it up on your own. Just don't even bother to go here. read more

Woods Hardware gets good reviews because they deserve it. Located pretty in-between a big box Home Depot in Hawthorne and a bg-box Lowe's in Torrance, this little Ace place gets it done. They really have everything for being a small-ish strip mall hardware store. But the real jam is a very helpful and friendly staff...people who go out of their way to help understand your problem and save you money while actually fixing it. You heard that right...if you can spend $8 instead of $40, they want you to save money. I was recently looking for a bathroom piping solution to an issue...Home Depot did nothing, had nothing, didn't care. Lowe's was just inconvenient and so crowded I wasted 45 minutes of my life searching by myself. Woods Ace Hardware...in and out in 10 minutes with a working solution for a lot less that I expected. Very pleased with my recent experience here! My older Honda's keys batteries needed to be replaced. There's a tough little screw to undo to switch out the battery however. One of the key's screws was stripped by a well-intended previous effort by someone. John spent a serious amount of time to get the key open from the screw that was still good. He said to come back another time after he returns from being out of town to work on the one with the stripped screw. WOW! That's REAL customer service for a $6.00 sale for the 3v battery. He could have easily told me to buzz off, not going to be able to do it.... I'm very grateful for that effort of his and to finally have a remote key working again for my car! Thanks! read more

Horrific attitude! Wondering why clerk was happily helping a man with product then when I asked for assistance he seemed annoyed. Reluctantly after I requested he show me where clamp was. Then when I asked him to please hand me two clamps , he roughly took my broken clamp out of my hand. Then gave me two clamps way too big. Had to ask a gentleman in the isle to help me. Just bad. Unfriendly, annoyed service. Called over asked for a product. They looked up the price assured me it was in stock. Drive over within 5 minutes and they can't find it. Not in stock. It feels Mom and Pop in there because it's so small, but not one smile or sincere thank you. If you wait to ask for help from an employee, he/she pretends not to see you.
