I just got back from this business...I bought a wall mount for a monitor and stripped all the screws and needed help installing it on dry wall...I walked down to here since it's the only local hardware store we have. a little embarrassed having to admit I was having trouble with such a simple task...I was welcomed by the owner who gave me such welcoming and non judge-mental energy, he walked with me to the isles and listened and gave me the best affordable option...when we got to the register it was literally only $2 which I bring up because the gentleman truly treated me as if I was going to make a huge purchase...these types of businesses are going instinct and we need to protect and support them...I got home and installed it with such an ease compare to the trouble I had the night before simply from getting some re assurance from a pro ! ... honestly it was family vibes and that's priceless!!! The Owner is very rude and unprofessional. His description is an old building Indian guy (DOT) . He always has an attitude and today was the last draw! I simply went in the store today and grabbed what I needed. The items was less than $10 so he says cash only. So , I said Ok, I will get it from my car. When I said that he then gets a stinky attitude with smart comments under his breath and says (you're wasting my time)!!!!! Man, if you can get it here instead of a big box store, do it. Great local hardware store and the dudes are always super helpful. You can even check check their inventory online before leaving the house. I always find what I need here and the things I didn't know I needed for the project . The aisles are well curated and while you're standing there humming over exactly which bit to pick you'll find other ideas on the nearby shelves because these guys actually care that your project is successful. And their hardware selection is insanely better than the big box store, especially for stainless and metric and the little hardware pieces that you can't find even on Amazon I promise they have in a drawer somewhere. read more

They just lost a life long customer today. I like to support small local businesses and have been shopping here for years. Customer service isn't always great depending on who is in the store that day, but the good employees make up for the poor ones so I continued to shop there. They do not have the extensive selection that home depot has, but everytime i've went there I left with what I needed. I have been doing some work on my home recently and have been going in there every other day to get items needed do some repairs on my home. I had an old 5 gallon bucket of Bher paint that the crew who painted my house bought at home depot and left with me incase I ever need to do any repairs. I went in yesterday to ask if I brought it in if they would be able to put it in their mixer and shake it for me and the very helpful polite employee said yes that would be no problem. I wish I knew his name so I could give him a shout out. He was a taller white man who looked like he may be in his ealry 30s. Anyways I bring the 5 gallon bucket in today and ask the cashier if he could have it shooken to mix it. He goes in the back and gets an older man with gray and white hair, looks like he can be white or hispanic. He comes out and sees that it is a home depot brand paint and says no we won't do that, take it to home depot that's their paint they wil do it there for you. I knew that he was just upset that the paint wasn't purchased there and I just picked it up and started walking to the door as he continued to tell me that its home depot paint. Rather than giving good customer service and mix the paint for me which would have only took a minute or two. He decided to be petty and lost a customer. Now anytime anyone asks me about that place I will just recommend home depot or ace hardware. Im not sure if that was the owner of the shop, if not, whoever the owner is should have a talk with their employees about customer service and giving you're customers an experience that will make them come back. Its not always about having what the customer needs in stock and a good price, but actually being helpful and respectful. You guys don't have everything, the prices are more expensive than the bigger stores and half of the employees are rude. I ordered some flags to put on my balcony, but I needed poles for them. I tried the hardware store on Pacific... and they didn't have them. However, I did talk to one of the employees there about what I was doing, so he suggested creating a makeshift pole using a piece of metal pipe. I thought this would be cool. I hung out while he cut down the pipes to size, he charged 6 bucks each (which I thought was totally fair) and he let me keep the shorter ends that he had cut off, which was I was able to salvage to make even more flag poles (I had bought 4 flags). I totally trust this place for my hardware needs and will keep coming back. If you are a Pedro resident or find yourself on the East side of Gaffey, then I recommend this spot to you as well. read more

I love this hardware store so convenient. The people that work there know what they're doing. I've been able to make and create things at the store to fix things. That you could never do at Home Depot. Thanks for helping me restore my 1981 Honda scooter when I bought it it was in three boxes and I've been able to find every nut and bolt at this store every associate that work there has helped me at one point or another with this project thank you so much. Support local business. This is so much more convenient than going to mega store. And you can order items they don't have in stock online.Great customer service. A hometown hardware store with a hometown feel. Prices are decent and believe it or not, competitive with the big box hardware retailers like Home Depot and Lowes. The store itself is on the small side and parking is either on the street outside (if you're lucky) or a small lot in the back, from whence you may also enter. I love the idea of supporting a local small business and avoiding Home Depot-it's so much closer and convenient. There is a nice selection of small hardware items. However, half of the employees are helpful, the other half, very dismissive to female customers. Additionally, during a pandemic and with a posted sign on the door that masks are required, the same rude employees consistently do not wear masks, nor do they ask customers to do so, making this an unsafe shopping experience. When I called to speak to the manager before I wrote a Yelp review, I was told the manager was unavailable to speak with me. There you go. I'm off to Home Depot. read more

Is this the cheapest hardware store in town? Not necessarily. Do they have the largest selection? Definitely not. So why five stars? Because when I walk into Ace, everyone looks lost, and when I ask them a question, they look lost - and, if I do find something, it's way more expensive than anyplace else in or around San Pedro. On the other side of town, if I go to Home Depot, most of the time I get a completely disinterested youngster who doesn't know what's going on, or (as happened yesterday), an oldster who sent us to the entirely wrong part of the store (well played, Home Depot Troll, well played). But ... I walk into True Value, and they are crazy good about giving me advice, finding me the right product, and, if they don't have it, sending me to the right place. A small yet efficient hardware store for the small things you might need for a project. What I like about local hardware stores is that you'll find niche supplies such as certain cleaners, tools, bike accessories, etc. I needed a few nails for a project for my students, and without needlessly having to buy an entire package or box, I only spent a few cents on seven. The store itself is easily accessible whether from the front (on Pacific) or the back lot. There is a myriad of dust caked over some of the inventory (probably those that haven't sold for a very, very long time). And some parts of the store is used for storage. I'm sure most people do not come in here for the aesthetic value. If you plan on using a credit card, there is a $10 minimum. read more

I will not come here again. The staff is not helpful, unfriendly, and sexist. My first time here was a week ago and I came in to buy a multi meter. They didn't have the one I wanted but I bought what they had, took it home, opened it, didn't even put batteries in it and concluded that it indeed was not the one I wanted. I went back today, receipt in hand, multimeter fully packaged up but with the top of package neatly cut off and because of that they would not do a refund or store credit. It clearly hadn't been used and the receipt states returns in 30 days. To add insult to injury the store clerk called me "honey." I strongly encourage all to take their business elsewhere. read more

This true value is ok because not ALL of their employees are racist or racially profiling, but ONE BAD SEED CAN RUIN THE ENTIRE APPLE. He is elderly, with a mustache, a Hispanic accent, glasses, gray white hair, no name tag, and good luck getting out of there if you are black, white, Asian, under 35. He will look over aisles while you are in the same aisle but just the next section over, with no shame. He will interrogate you about where An item was that you put back. I told him that I'm not sure but I had put it back in it's right place. He said he didn't believe me. Then I decided to ask him to assist me with everything from that point forward to better assure him that although I was not Mexican or white, that I wasn't a thief. Didn't help. Also, when he rung me up and I was standing @ the register he had originally helped me @, his way of saying, "over here b***h!" Was, "ay! Get over here!!" As soon as I made my purchase, I immediately regretted patronizing this bigot-employing, outdated, over priced, ratchet shell of a hardwAre store. I felt to intimidated by this man to make a store policy approved return. I will have my Hispanic friend make the return, free of negative judgement, discrimination, and favoritism. I come here more than any other hardware store because someone is always ready to help me plus its walking distance from my house. They also make copy's of keys. I feel very fortunate to have this store in my neighborhood . They will have most everything you need - minus stuff like sheets of plywood or other large construction items . But that's ok , 99% of the time that's not what you need as a homeowner anyway . Service is great as well , unlike what you get at Home Depot etc . No comparison actually . So my husband complains that big retail stores such as Wal-Mart, Costco and Home Depot are destroying small businesses. I have been doing some light repairs to my place and decided to give a try to the local Tru Value store in "down town" San Pedro. The first 2 visits were ok. They are definitely higher than the Home Depot that's a few miles away. I bought 2 faucet fittings and as replacement mop head. The whole purchase was close to $20.00. The faucet fittings were not compatible with my faucet. I didn't have to install them as I could see the difference once I got them home. I came back to return them and purchase some other items which were going to total about $50.00. So I thought, no big deal I'll exchange them and put it towards the other items I needed. WRONG!...on my part. I had gone past the printed return date on the receipt by 3 weeks. This was clearly my mistake. But, the 2 little faucet adapters hadn't been opened and should have been accepted on return so that the store could still make more money on the items I was going to buy. Any smart manager would have made an exception to the rule realizing another size and another loyal customer. I work have worked in retail and I know what can and can't be done. I proved my husband wrong. There is a reason small places like this are getting eaten alive by the Home Depot and Wal-Mart's. On my way to Home Depot now. I will not step foot in this Tru Value again. read more
