Not entirely sure, but I do know several loyal harbor fright customers, among them my dad, who has been shopping at harbor freight ever since I could remember, then comes my husband, who is also an avid shopper. The quality of their merchandise is sometimes not the best however in my experience everything we have purchased has served it's purpose and went above and beyond in performance. This location is small and crowded but it's organized and the staff is friendly and helpful. Best bang for your buck. Everything is relatively cheap compared to buying other name brand tools. But, you also do get what you pay for in the long run. I personally have Matco/Snap-On tools, but of course, for the more important things.. Such as ratchets, torque wrench, etc. I'm fine with having a Harbor Freight tool set to keep in the car and to replace broken sockets, screw drivers and etc. great for also purchasing those tools you probably only use once in a lifetime situations where you don't need to buy an expensive one. I love HFT and usually shop at the one by Artesia Blvd in Torrance during my lunch break at work. This location is definitely closer to my residence but the store is smaller and while organized, not nearly as organized nor clean as the Torrance location. The cashiers are not as friendly as the Torrance location (they're not assholes either, just unwelcoming). I'm giving this location a 3 star strictly on that. Other than that, I've invested about $300 in tools from HFT (jack, jack stands, torque wrench, mechanic's tool set, drain pans, siphon pump, etc.) and saved over $1,500 in DIY car repair vs. taking it to the dealership. Their tools held up well when I used them to work on our cars. They also email your receipts with printed copies, so if you ever need to replace or exchange a tool, you can easily search for that receipt in your email client. No effin' around keeping stash of paper receipts. HFT ALWAYS have deals. Always. Sometimes you have to wait for that super deal on a specific item you're looking for (like $80.00 for their Franklin 17ft multi-task ladder when it's on sale for $99.99 and you use a 20% coupon on top, normally priced at $140). We wanted to buy a generator in case of a power outage. After checking into a lot of products, although the Honda generator was very highly rated and very popular, we decided to get the Predator 2000 Watt Inverter Generator, for less than half the price. Two days ago, I bought the generator listed for $499.99. The 20% coupon didn't apply, so I asked the clerk if she could work out anything. She said if I joined their buyers club for $30, I could buy the generator for $450, so I did. The very next day I saw the online ad for the generator, $439.99 without the buyers' club membership. The next day I thought I would ask if I could be given a refund because of the lower price and return the buyers' club $30 cost. I was very pleasantly surprised that the clerk OKed the request and processed a refund for the buyers' club membership, $30 and allowed me to pay the reduced price of $439.99. The clerk happened to be the supervisor, Karla. I've been a frequent buyer at Harbor Freight Tools, but this was a pretty remarkable example of their excellent customer service. I'm down for Harbor Freight... Ken J. is right they have a lot of common items for cheap. It's easy to spend a lot of time in the store because there are a bunch of random nick knacks that you never knew you needed. I usually go a couple times a month to pick up some gloves for work and check out what's on sale. Last month they had two 3 ton jack stands for 12 bucks. Not bad if you need jack stands.... If you need a tool that you only have to use once this is the place to buy it. I give Harbor Freight four stars because the people are usually cool and they have a lot of sales. I purchased their LCD automotive multi-meter (95670) for the clamp on tachometer. It would not register more than 99 RPM. Tried for almost an hour to get this thing to work. Gave up!! I returned it to the Lomita store only to be told that there was a 20% RESTOCKING FEE!! THEY'RE GOING TO RE-STOCK A BROKEN METER?? I wrote their customer service and received an auto-reply that I would be contacted in 72 hours. It's been over a week. Poor customer service!! read more

Ya gotta love this place! This is the 99 Cent store answer to the hardware store. Yeah, the quality is not always the best and you have to really think hard whether or not the item you are getting has to be designed to exact specs or if a rough equivalent is good enough. But woah! Do they have a lot of common items for cheap!! I got for myself a full mackintosh (for you youngins, that is a yellow rubber raincoat) for, like, $8.00 or so bucks. They also have more substantial items, too, so check them out, especially if you have a sneaky feeling that you can do better on the price than Home Despot (NOT a misspelling!) and it probably won't be at a 99 Cent store, Target or Big Lots. Was lied to about the return policy. Was told no restocking fee as long as wishing 90 days with receipt. After returning the not so great made item an hour later the lady said there is a 20% restocking fee since we used it in the parking lot. Guess we should have used the jack at home first..... I wish Harbor Freight Corporate would upgrade the size of this store to their Woodland Hills Mega Store. Harbor Freight is excellent, but they are really missing the boat being in this small mini-mall. Lomita is such a cheap area for retail rents and it would be nice to get this location moved so we could have access to their entire incredible product line. Its usually pretty crowded here and it can be hard to find an employee to help you find something. That said, its for good reason, since Harbor Freight is so well stocked that the workers are constantly going into the back to get something big and heavy for a customer. The shelves were well stocked and well organized. The staff was very friendly. I had some specific questions about a soldering unit I was considering purchasing. I just returned from a trip to your store in Lomita, CA. The cashier (young, brunette, portly) female was involved in a product return. First off, she questioned why I was returning a set of wrenches. I informed her that I subsequently purchased a smaller set and didn't need this larger set. She proceeded to open it up and check the wrenches. I'm ok with that. What I am not ok with is the fact that she looks so disinterested in her job while working with customers. She proceeds to process my return by charging me a second time. Gives me the receipt and doesn't say anything, like a simple "Thank you". I slowly start to check my receipt and realize that she didn't refund me, but actually charged me. I go back to see her and she seems kind of annoyed that I mention that she made a mistake. The manager comes over and says sorry for the mistake, but this cashier doesn't apologize or anything. So I proceed to shop around for more items. I find the items that I need and proceed to the checkout. Since I have a coupon, I ask if she has a scissor so I can cut it out. She replies "no" and doesn't even bother to go find one. She works in a tool store, go figure. After she rings me up, he hands me the receipt and doesn't even bother to say a simple "Thank You". It's not that difficult to say, but apparently it is for her. My Sprint Touch Pro 2 digitizer came off. I used my old Touch Pro 2 as a donor. But I needed a phone tool kit to disassemble and reassemble both. I googled "cell phone kit." Came up with Harbor Freight Tools. It's funny because I never heard of this company prior to this. However, I found a few nice security tools set on their website. But I wasn't about to pay for shipping and I wasn't about to wait for delivery. I needed my cell phone now! So I found a nearest store. PCH is the nearest store lol? I don't think so lol. Well, I went anyway. I couldnt believe how small this store is. But the store is a do it yourself-er's dream lol. It had some of the cheapest tools i've ever seen. I bought more than a few things and walked out happy. Great place for nice tools at discount prices. Parking is ok, if you can find a parking space lol. Bought a fountain pump that should reach a height of 11.5 ft. I thought it would work well with my 6 ft fountain. The pump did not even clear four feet. Took it back. Explained the problem to the people at the counter. Got my money back, however they still charged me the 20% restocking fee! FOR A DEFECTIVE ITEM. I'm sure they will just restock it and sell the unit to some other fool. They keep this store clean which is pretty amazing to me. The only drawback is some of the customers that come in can be pretty ruthless, disrespectful and pretty darm fowl. I can go to Sears, Home Depot or Lowe's and pay 3 times as much or I can go to the 99 cent tool store. I guess you cant complain when you can pick up a one time use tool for pennies. The store is to small, the staff is over work and grumpy and very sensitive to -talking about wrong priced items-this employee took it personal that it was her fault and it wasn't-it was a store mistake-you could tell that this person was in the wrong -job position-not their fault, more of a manager incompetence problem - the better store is located in Torrance. read more
