I'm leaving this review for Harbor Freight Tools because the poor ratings are absolutely justified. I went in myself, and the customer service was shockingly bad. If employees dislike their jobs so much that they can't treat customers with basic courtesy, then they should seriously consider finding a different line of work. Daniel, in particular, was exceptionally rude and disrespectful toward me--a paying customer. His behavior was unprofessional and completely unacceptable. Harbor Freight needs to take a hard look at their staff and address these issues immediately, because no one should be treated the way I was. read more

'There is nothing I can do, Sir! These are the worst words you can say to a paying customer. Not 1 but 2 managers telling you to go buy it someplace else was socking and knowing that the warehouse in California has over 1000 on hand, but alas we can't do anything cause we don't have any on order. Arizona is completely out of this unit and only one store in Casa Grande has limited stock. None of the stores in Phoenix have any on order. None on order! I had over 100 dollars in my hand, ready to give to the till, and Harbor Freight could do nothing. You would think someone could have called California and found out what the hubbub is on the item, the managers could have ordered the item. How about a transfer from another store. Yet all the lady manager could do is look at her watch and say, "There is nothing I can do, sir!" Phoenix, AZ is not a small pueblo hiding in the desert. 1.7 million inhabitants must be flushing something down the toilet. Just called to check availability of an item and was transfered to the back. The guy picked up and said he would check and put the phone down. I then heard over the 30 minutes of cussing vulgar conversations making fun of customers and doing drugs. Also a woman came and asked the guy who answered if he was looking for something and he replied "no not looking for anything just put a guy on hold going to leave it until he hangs up" I recorded 20 minutes of clear audio on my other phone of the f bombs, ridiculing customers and taking drugs by at least 3 individuals. Then I hear the guy come back to the phone and say I bet this guy hung up and hung it up himself. I immediatly called back to the only supervisor there Heidi told me im sorry this happened ill have a talk with them. Didnt ask for my information or anything after saying I've been shopping there for years and spent thousands of dollars both me and my family. Pretty depressing that a business can get this bad especially during this time where every customer should be appreciated and cared for with professionalism and gratitude. Will never shop at this location again and may post the audio just have to bleep about 500 f bombs and crude language no one should have to hear. read more

Harbor freight is a great place to get tools you will only use once in awhile it's not for everyday use. It's nice when they have their big sales and you have a coupon. The biggest problem with harbor Freight is waiting in lines to purchase items it's without fail that your bound to wait forever just to purchase something. There's always someone in line that doesn't understand what's going on and then the employee is waiting for a manager to assist. Without fail you will wait forever to check out. read more

Watched a Ted talk recently that said the average power drill operates for an average of 13 minutes over its entire life span. So if that's the case with drills, what about their power cousins, drill presses, table saws, or the lowly router? Mere minutes or seconds to prove their worth, so do you really need a red, yellow, or orange name brand at sometimes double the price you can find at Harbor Freight? Asking for a friend. As if their everyday prices aren't low enough, these guys print coupons like the rainforest will last forever. While the coupons have some restrictions, its pretty easy to save some strong coin with Harbor Freight. This location is excellent. It's always clean, well organized, they are typically in- stock on the items I need and the customer service is on-point. Its also so much easier to get in and out of than a big box home improvement store. Parking is close to the door and while the selection is fantastic, you won't need a GPS to find your way out of the store. Holidays, home improvement, gifts, or simply spoiling yourself, if it's a tool you need, Harbor Freight has you covered. read more

Need a cheap, decent tool then this is the place to go for sure. I have bought many a tools from this location and they have not failed me yet. For example, I have a chop saw, table saw, reciprocation saw with the blades purchased here and other items like a pressure washer. They all are still working after doing many projects like bamboo flooring, custom bird stand, custom entertainment center, and even trimming up a huge Palo verde tree!! I was pleasantly surprised they sold reciprocating saw blades made for cutting live wood, really helped out a lot! The coupons are great when they come in email or mail; I try to always await these when picking up the larger ticket items. I also love the free flashlight (sometimes other items) coupon as well and so does my youngest son lol! read more

This review is specifically on one of Harbor Freight's employees, NORM. When I first entered the store, I looked for an available sales associate. Norm was the first employee I spotted, and I called out to him for assistance. Thinking he didn't hear me the first time (because he sped walked away from me), I followed him all the way to the front of the store, still saying "Excuse me, excuse me!" two to three more times, just to be ignored. At that point, I walked to the back of the store again and waited for another employee to help me. (Kudos to the guy who helped me who was super efficient and really nice!!) Unfortunately, I got stuck with Norm, the employee who originally ignored me as I attempted to ask for help finding an item, at check-out. I paid for my item and got ready to leave the store. He told me I couldn't bring the hand truck out to my car. Fine. The items were not that heavy, so I told him I would take the items one at a time and DID NOT need help. He INSISTED, probably because I was a young female, that someone help me anyway. I told him THREE TIMES that I did not want nor need the help of another employee. I really don't appreciate the way Norm treated me. I'm not an incapable female. When someone repeatedly tells you, Norm, they don't need help, STOP FORCING HELP UPON THEM. Not only was it annoying and rude, but it was embarrassing as I was the only female in there. read more

While not as big as a Home Depot, it nevertheless offers a wide array of items for home improvement, crafts, even recreation. And the prices are great! Shopping here is the worst. Most of the higher up management ( mainly Norm and Rob) are rude, Ill-mannered, impolite, discourteous, and a bunch of other words. Norm has ignored countless customers and employees over the radios. I've stood in line and watched it happen. Customers would ask him 3-4 times for help and he'd just stand there fixing stuff instead of helping. Employees ask for him over the radio 5-7 times and he never answers which causes the lines to get backed up. Something needs to happen. In my opinion, the store just needs a new store manager. There are a couple employees who actually try to help the best that they can. Chris and James have incredibly been knowledgeable on any questions I've asked and have been some of the nicest people I've run into in retail and that's hard to come by. I would never recommend shopping at this location specifically. read more

On a Sunday the place was pretty dead. Saturday's are usually pretty busy so it was convenient to go inside and find no wait. I was looking for bead containers and thought of going to Michael's crafts but didn't want to spend a lot of money. My bf suggested Harbor Freight. Bought an item not intended for regular use. Worked once didn't work second time. No warranty on all items after 90 days. That just tells you how poorly made everything is. I won't be buying any tools here anymore. They Mark everything down so cheap but not worth it unless you buy the extended warranty. By the time you buy the warranty you may as well go buy something that will actually last and not break the second time you use it. What a scam. read more

I find it hard to believe how much stuff I've bought here in the last couple of years. The quality isn't always there (what do you expect for the prices, right?), so I recommend thoroughly testing stuff before you need to use it in the field. I've had to return a water pump (started smoking when plugged in, didn't pump), an auger (leaked oil like a 1973 Vega), and a solar inverter (didn't invert). But it's always an easy and painless process to return stuff, so I really can't complain. The staff always handles returns professionally and quickly. The other 10,000 items I've bought there have been just fine. I'll keep buying more stuff as fast as I can print out the 20% off coupons! It's cheaper and lower quality stuff than you'll get from Home Depot or Lowe's, but for the price, who the hell cares? I could literally buy 3 of some tools at HF for the price of 1 at HD or Lowe's. read more

Harbor Freight is a lot like Walmart. It always has exactly what you need even when you don't know you need it. And for cheap! Plus you can always find a 20% off coupon in the mail. Usually with a deal for a free flashlight, tape measure, or a pair of scissors. Bargain! The staff is pretty friendly and familiar with their inventory. If they don't have it at their, store they'll gladly let you know which store has it in stock and tell you how to get there. New stores are springing up all over the country, so between the retail sites and the website, you can get whatever you need quickly and easily. The tools are somewhere between entry level and mid-grade, nothing too fancy. If you're a contractor by profession, go to Home Depot. But for the average homeowner/weekend handyman, the price is always right. And if it breaks, they'll replace it, so who cares? They have a decent selection and stuff often goes on sale so it's worth checking out every few weeks. In the past four years I've had to return only three items. Three out of possibly 100 items purchased. And whenever I did take something back, they replaced it no problem. Even after I had beaten the hell out of it! Who else does that? The only con is the check-out lines. Be prepared to wait in line about 5 minutes. Longer if it's a Saturday. Seems they need to hire more cashiers, but perhaps that's how they keep the prices so low. At any rate, I've never had a bad experience here so I would definitely recommend it. I must admit, whenever I get a Harbor Freight coupon in the mail, I get all excited. Yay! Love the prices, check their website and flyers for coupons. HF has a fantastic selection of general hardware, tools and auto accessories. Lots of other gadgets, too, such as welders, air tools, torque wrenches and generators. The problem with specialty tools is that unless you use them every day, it doesn't make sense to pay top dollar for a Snap-On or Hilti. Although I'm not sure I'd bother with their cordless tools as you really can't beat the performance and reliability of Dewalt and Makita. I also like their towing and trailer accessories, it's nice to have a backup place besides Walmart for miscellaneous things which can break. My lone complaint is the lines at this location. You sometimes end up waiting 10-15 minutes and maybe more. The only time I've not seen long lines here was at 8am. They really need to have 3 cashiers - having 2 cashiers and one of them being new, you're going to end up with problems. Today, June 6th, they're having a sidewalk sale, which makes sense - until about noon when the temps cross 100 en route to 108 degrees. I'm not sure why you'd even bother as it would make much more sense to have one of those workers inside manning a register. This franchise would benefit greatly from a POS/checkout system overhaul. read more

The map showing where this place is located is way off. Its on the South East corner of 51st Ave and Bell Rd. The apparent quality of some of the items sold here may not be up to par with the big name brand items that you might buy at large home improvement stores, but the prices are incredible in comparison and sometimes you just don't need that level of quality in things that you might be using only once. If you're buying something that you for some reason need a very high quality version of, then maybe you should shop around a bit, as you may not get that level of quality every single time. I personally have a good feel for the quality of goods that I'm looking for and normally the price is right here for what I assume I'm getting. The service is very good here and I rarely have to look around for more than a moment to find someone to help me. A lot of thier items come with a warranty. I bought a ratchet here and it stopped ratcheting after a couple months. I brought it back without a receipt and after verifying that it was broken they let me grab a new one off the shelf. They specialize in tools, so don't expect to come for lumber or other building materials. They have stuff to help you fix your car as well as your home. read more

Like every other Harbor Freight store, they're loaded with cheap Chinese crap tools, with a few gems in the mix. I've been going here on and off for years to load up on things like nitrile and mechanics gloves (I love their leather palm version, much more so than the real mechanics gloves). Occasionally I've found tooling that is made in Germany, or Spain, and is of very good quality. Still not quite professional/industrial grade (and I mean actual industrial, not someone slapping "Industrial" into the name of an otherwise cruddy product), but quite good for home use. But lately the service side has been getting worse and worse, especially when checking out. This morning I got to stand in line for nearly 30 minutes before getting frustrated, tossing my arm full of stuff on a display, and walking out. There was one register open, about a dozen customers in the store, ten of which were standing in line. The cashier needed a void, which needed a manager code. Took five minutes to get a manager up there. 30 seconds later she needed to break a hundred. Yep, another five minutes for the manager. Next customer questioned a coupon, and wanted to speak to a manager...yay. Every time a manager needed to be summoned, all transactions came to a halt. Every time the manager came, he gives change or keys in a code and instantly disappears. This was the proverbial last straw....I've gotten used to waiting in line 10 or 15 minutes when they're busy, and the lines are long on 3 of the 4 registers, but 30 mins on one single line early on a Saturday morning? That was also 30 minutes of waiting, and there were still a couple customers ahead of me...who knows how long it would have been before I actually got to a register... Do they really only have one person capable of running a register? Is the stuff cheap? Sure. But considering nearly everyone sells cheap Chinese tools now, the savings are typically only a few bucks here and there, and frankly not worth the frustration to me. read more

I'm not impressed that it always takes longer to stand in line than it takes to shop there. Especially at lunch time. It's like the cashier sees the line has 10 people in it and says, oh, I better help this customer go through the newspaper and find a coupon for their affordably priced, cheaply made products. I don't understand why I'm asked if I'm paying debit or credit when the machine asks me if to choose debit or credit anyway. It's a Harbor Freight store, which means it is a lot like most of the others. However this one is particularly clean and well managed, which makes it one of my favorites. Stock is good, shelves are kept organized, and even though it's always busy there are rarely any lines at the register. I think one day I'll ask for the manager and say thanks. read more

Great Prices! Forget about Home Depot or Lowes stores. They are over rated. With the coupons they send they send to the house we have saved over $100 on tools that we would have bought from Home Depot. The tools are better then WALMART brand and with great prices. Ack. Can't believe I never got around to reviewing this place. Then again, it's been a while since I dared set foot in here, and I don't plan to ever again, so that probably explains it. Full disclosure, while I am not an ultra nationalist, I do prefer to buy quality tools. I don't care if they're made in Germany (Wera, Wiha, Knipex, NWS), Switzerland (PB Swiss), Italy (Bahco), Finland (Fiskars), England (Fisco), or good old USA (SK, Proto, Wright, etc.). So, enter Horror Freight, where almost nothing of their own house brand (by which I mean no-name stuff they attach their brand to in label only) is quality, regardless of where it was sourced. They claim it is just as good as other professional, name-brand stuff, but somehow vastly cheaper because they've cut out the middle man. Given, however, that most of it is made in China and has the appearance of the cheapest construction one can imagine, with the balance made in India (the only place capable of producing worse hand tools than the China), it's something of a hard sell from the get go. To further insult the intelligence of their customers, they additionally claim that quality is as good or better than name brands, because it's all made in the same place and the same factories, again with no evidence to back it up. After all, you should totally trust wild claims from a snake oil salesman, right? Now, in fairness, there are a few gems to be had, at least sometimes, in this cesspool of a retail chain. And make no mistake, it is a cesspool. Not just in terms of the average shopper, which tends to be the worst kind of trailer park trash, or in the rude and condescending, couldn't-give-a-shit-if-they-tried employees. No no, beyond that, it is a cesspool because of the actual smell of the place. Instead of reeking of shit and refuse, this location (like all others) has this vile air of chemical nastiness. I struggled for a long time to explain it, but then it came to me, almost in an epiphany. Imagine you bought the cheapest imported Chinese rubber floor mats in the world. The kind that are probably toxic and carcinogenic, and then imagine the pungent odor they give off. It's the same smell you get when you buy new rugs, and is indeed the carcinogenic smell from the glue. The stuff they tell you to keep away from kids and pets until it airs out. Ringing a bell? Yeah, that smell. The whole damn store smells like this, from top to bottom. Between friends and family, we would joke that it was the stench of cheap Chinese crap, but it turns out there's actually some truth to that! So on to the precious few gems I mentioned. If you're in need of jack stands, you can get the same made-in-China stuff here that just about everyone else repaints and puts their name on (looking at you, Pep Boys, Autozone, Oreilly, Home Depot, Jegs, Sears, Walmart, Duralast, etc.), except the ones here are about half the price. Jack stands are pretty hard to screw up and, given that anywhere you go, these are what you get, you might as well buy them here on the cheap. The other gem would be those green, Accu-link branded, typically French made link belts for upgrading your equipment from regular v-belts. They are NOT cheap, but If you're in a bind and need them quick, this location stocks them. That, honestly is about it. Personally, I have all the jack stands I'll ever need and likewise on link belts, so I don't plan to ever set foot again in this Walmart of the tool world. Should you go? I guess that depends on a few things. Firstly, if you don't care at all about tool quality and have no problem making multiple repeat trips to return or exchange defective or broken items, knock yourself out. Additionally, if you don't mind shopping in a store with a disgusting, pungent, chemical stink in the air that will give you a headache and God only knows what else, by all means, give it a go if it saves you a nickel or two. While the Danes would call a store like this "the poor people's paradise", I personally prefer a colloquialism I once heard, namely, "The only thing cheap about that place are the people who shop there." read more

Had a trailer involved in the tire recall, and they totally helped me out last week as I needed my trailer to make some runs to Scottsdale and back. The staff seems completely uninterested in long wait and lines. I watched other customers stand and wait equally long for tools from the back warehouse.
