The regular dishes are decent, the dim sum is "okay" . The dim sum skins are too thick and the steamed dishes all have the same basic flavor. I think they use a basic sauce and just change the filling. The best thing I can say about their dim sum is that its cheap. Well the char siu bao is pretty good. Anyway I used to like to eat dinner here but the restaurant has really gotten dirty. They really need to close for a day and give the place a good cleaning! There are better places. We like to come here for dim sum. We tend to get seated very quickly & the carts come around, usually, just as fast. The dim sum has always been delicious for us, and we tend to order the same things each time we go; it's always been just as tasty as the last time. There's lots of parking in the lot they're on, especially if you come before 11am ish. After that, you might need to circle around a bit more. No validation, but the price to park there is not bad at all, considering we're in Honolulu. We've found the best time to come (esp for dim sum) is mid-morning. We went once when they first opened in the morning and once at the tail end of dim sum service (close to 2:00pm) & the carts didn't come around as quickly or as often as they would if you were to be there say at 9 or 10:00. read more

I think they could do a little updating of the interior. Parking is easy because there is a municipal lot. And the parking fee is not bad. I have tried so many dimsum place in this island i feel like i'm dimsum pro lol. i like happy day because of it's freshness. if you go early their dimsum is really hot and steamy. Well let me first start by saying that I am allergic to shrimp and really cant stand mushrooms. With that being said, Dim Sum is always pretty low on my list of food choices, but my friend really wanted to eat here so thats just what we did. The sticky rice was DELISH, Manapua was really good. I've been here a bunch of times on various occasions. My friends' parents used to love going here after church or taking my friend and I here to eat. At first, I was really indifferent about this place. However, since I've been working in Kaimuiki, I really don't care for it anymore. I do love dim sum and their dim sum is good for the most part. But.. the service isn't the greatest. The workers shove food on you and I don't even want half the food they try to shove on me. If they shoved jin dui and custard pie things on me, it's one thing but I don't really care for the other stuff. I am picky about dim sum because I like to eat the same ones every time. Otherwise, it's bleh for me. Plus, sometimes you can't flag anyone down when you really need something. It would be three stars perhaps for me or a 2.5 but I rounded down because have you smelled the outside by their side door? Unlike the calm setting of an English tea time, the dim sum experience is very straight forward, assertive, and loud. Concept: Eat. Order (whatever they give you). Get out! Good thing I went with a friend who knows how to order. I had familiar items such as, char siu bao (steamed manapua) and siu mai (pork hash). But he also made me try CHICKEN FEET! The gelatinous texture was a turn off for me, but if you like skin and fat on your meat then you'll enjoy this. Place is resonable priced for the amount of food you get. We spent $30 and had left overs. I've spent far more at other dim sum joints. Plus, I found out that you get a 25% discount if you order out! Any how, I suggest you put on your "big girl panties" and don't be intimidated by the chaotic ambiance and unique looking food and smells; it's part of the experience. Their steam buns and orange chicken were not that bad. But it was slow service and there wasn't very many people. They do have a big room that they said can be separated into two rooms. One thing you have to understand about dining at Happy Days or any other dim sum restaurant is that the service gets as good as keeping your water glass full and not forgetting your order. Once you get past that, you can really enjoy the goodies these eccentric waiters are pushing around the aisles. I enjoy the steamed shrimp look fun, baked char siu bao, deep fried taro puffs, and shrimp and chive dumplings. Their jasmine tea is good too, the perfect accompaniment to the dim sum selection. Came here after UH's graduation and it was crazy!! they fit 11 of us on a tiny table and there was no space to walk around. We were surrounded in a corner by other large parties. I'm pretty sure they were over capacity maybe be 100 people. It was crazy. The food was good and speedy. Service was a bit mehhhh. We had to keep asking them to refill our water, i think there were avoiding us because it took too much work to get to our table. They didn't even bother filling up our tea. But the food was delicious, I love dim sum and their dim sum was good. We were a large party so we had the shrimp dim sum, the spinach dim sum, the taro dim sum, shu mai, mochi rice and the sticky buns. Happy Days is one of our go-to dim sum places... Okay, it IS our go-to dim sum place. The problem is this. We live on the west saiiiide. It's a trek to come to town just to eat dim sum. That being said, we cannot seem to find a place that satisfies all of our expectation on our own side. Happy Days has all kinds of funky specials, but we never quite make the time or do take out or whatever they give discounts for. We love the food here. The kids love it. We all love it. When we first started coming here years ago, the service was horrendous. We got barked at, and the carts didn't come around fast enough. Basically, the food was too slow. You'd have to flag a waiter down to get a refill on your water. It was just terrible. Since then, the service has improved by leaps and bounds. The waiters and waitresses are friendly and attentive, and they try to keep the carts moving. I wish they added a couple more carts though, because I think people would be happier. We all have our favorites. The hubs likes the boring stuff like siu mai and bao. Yes, bao. Who the heck orders bao if you're not a kid. Um, my husband, that's who. He does love the char siu pie here. That is yummy. It's a bit of flaky crust which surrounds a few spoonfuls of sweet, red meat. Delicious. We also order the taro puffs. The filling is warm and hearty, with chunks of mushroom. The puff is light and the taro is smooth. Our favorite, however, is the deep fried shrimp which comes with a sweet mayo that is a must! On this visit, I got some black bean jin dui that was super fresh...and super delicious. Fresh jin dui cannot be beat. I also tried some new things on this visit. The seafood roll was full of tastiness. The shrimp and spinach we always get was chock full of spinach. People/Family/waitstaff watching made it an entertaining experience. (Parents, find a way to have those kids ditch those phones for a meal! Geez.) We're coming back often for the steamed sea bass with ginger; ridiculously good. The walnut (fried) chicken is sweet & savory crunchy deliciousness; almost like a dessert. Came here the other weekend with a large group, and so we ordered the large "family meal"--walnut shrimp, chow mein with seafood and vegetables, egg rolls, etc. The dim sum came first--and that was the best part of the meal. I even gave them a second chance still had bad service, no refills on water and over 10 minutes to get the check in a fairly empty restaurant both times. We went to Happy Day as a group for dinner. This is a classic Hong Kong style Chinese restaurant replete with bright decor and shouting Cantonese waitresses. Since we had over 15 people we ordered off of the Table menu (family style meals designed for parties of 10 or more). We ordered several dishes as part of the Table menu. It started with a scallop soup that was fantastic and served fresh and hot. Next, the Peking Duck which was very well prepared and served with the traditional white buns. It was prepared tableside and served to all. Next came the Candied walnut shrimp. Another great course with plenty of shrimp and walnuts. The Chinese style beef tenderloin was one of my favorites as the beef melted in your mouth. The fantasia of food continued with the next course which was a Taro Basket with scallops, chicken and veggies. Another hit with the group. A white fish dish was the next course which was tender and delicious. A fried noodle dish covered with seafood and veggies was one of the final dishes served before the rest of the Peking Duck meat arrived at the table. Overall, each of the courses were delicious and presented well. The restaurant is a bit noisy and the service is on the brusque side and if you are not used to Cantonese service, it can come across as bossy or even rude. One of the quirky stories from our night was the fact that the restaurant apparently ran out of white rice for a while. Since the restaurant was not too busy when we got there, we were all at a bit of a loss, but the rice cookers came back online and we were back in business. The only reason a 5th start was not awarded is its loud and "get 'em in and get 'em out" atmosphere, but it is great if you have a group with kids. read more

My first time having dim sum was at Happy Day, based on a recommendation from a co-worker. I am typically not a fan of traditional Asian flavors, however I really enjoyed the dim sum. Well its cultural to eat dim sum on the weekends for our family, we try to go to Happy Days or to Nice Days (same Owners) once a month. There service is the typical Chinese way. Loud, all over the place and rushed (LOL)! They have take out dim sum specials just call and ask. Always make sure you ask for tea and water or they may forget :(.. ask for wooden chopsticks. On the bright side food is delicious! the roast pork is good, most of all the dim sum menu is Ono! Whenever I come my bill is no more that $25 but this past time I went it was in the $40s and I didn't even order that much. I thought the food was pretty good overall. I thought it was a little pricey for chinese, but then we're in Hawaii and everything is a little more. For 13 of us the bill came out to $180 which I thought was high considering we didn't really order anything special. The reason I gave it only 3 stars was because the place is kinda dingy and smells a little when I first walked in. Then, just before getting our food I noticed that both plates and the little sauce plate n front of me was dirty with some dried on food. Then as we were eating my nephew next to me peels back part of his bok choy and it was filled with dirt. They hadn't washed the vegetables. At this point I was a little turn off from eating.
