Found this place thanks to Yelp reviews and it definitely did not disappoint. The restaurant isn't very big though so be prepared to wait during peak times. Ordered the Green Pepper Beef, Sautéed Fish Filet with Garlic Sauce, and Pan Fried Crispy Noodles with Chicken. I loved that every dish wasn't too salty. I've found most Chinese restaurants use way too much MSG but this place had nice natural flavors. Service was quick and attentive and the overall feeling inside the restaurant was quiet and peaceful. Came here for lunch on a Saturday with family. Right when we walked in, there was a huge stench of old, mildewy mop smell. Even our waiter kept complaining about it to the other workers in cantonese. It was pretty awful smelling and hard to ignore. For food, we got a decent amount of dishes: walnut shrimp, singapore noodles, dried bean curd with pork, kung pao chicken, boiled fish, french style beef steak, and a few others. The best one was walnut shrimp. Others were just ok or kind of bland. The water also tasted off. Sadly, overall, not a great experience because of the smell and water. Parking lot is large but you'll have to battle it out with the many other patrons trying to get to the market or restaurants. read more

This is long overdue since Happy Bee has been my default Chinese restaurant for special gatherings with family and family friends. One of the staff members have told me they've recognized me from previous visits. The staff have always been friendly and super accommodating. I've brought cake for birthdays and they were able to refrigerate them until the end of our meal. But if the birthday person doesn't want the happy birthday song sung to them, just let staff know ahead of time because they will sing to you and play a loud song on the screen lol. Been here a couple of times, mostly for takeout but occasionally for dine in. It's in the same plaza with 99 Ranch market and many other businesses. House Special Eggplant is unique and delicious. The eggplant is sliced to about 1/2 inch discs which are breaded and fried. These are warm and crispy and dropped into a typical Szechwan sauce for some sweet and spicy notes. Due to the prep method these are amazing when hot and fresh, and unfortunately do not reheat well later. Honey Walnut Shrimp is a common dish and prepared well here. Not too much breading in the shrimp, with heavy of the Mayo sauce on top. Walnuts are usually on the side next to the shrimp rather than sprinkled on, and there are a couple pieces of broccoli too ‍ Bean Curd Szechwan Style has variable spiciness, and even the mild still has a kick. French beef cubes are great and good for takeout. House Special Fish Filet is prepared similar to the eggplant, but the fish is softer and so I prefer the eggplant due to the firmer bites. read more

I've been here multiple times. I try and order something different each time. Every single time the food has always exceeded my expectations. Yesterday I ordered takeout. This go round we ordered the salt and pepper fish, house chicken and fried rice. Food was excellent. The flavor of the fish was amazing. We were meeting a friend for lunch who wanted Chinese food but doesn't really eat spicy, so I suggested Happy Bee Kitchen. Parking was easy in the large lot on a weekday. We went shortly after opening on a Wednesday at 11:20AM so it wasn't too busy. The two waitresses were very friendly and attentive, and spoke excellent Mandarin, Cantonese, and English. Service was 5-star for sure, above average for a Chinese restaurant. The interior is nice and clean with a fair number of tables even though it is not that big of a restaurant. The menu was extensive with some Americanized dish offerings but many more authentic dishes. We ended up ordering a mix of lunch special items as well as dinner menu items, as the lunch specials came with a large bowl of rice. Complimentary peanuts were brought out at the start of the meal and we opted for hot tea as our drink. We ordered the green onion pancake and Chinese donut, Spicy Eggplant w/Garlic Sauce (魚香茄子) and Baked Pork Chop w/Peking Sauce (京都排骨) from the Lunch Special menu, and Honey Walnut Shrimp (西汁核桃蝦) plus Sauteed Water Spinach (清炒通心菜) from the regular/dinner menu. The water spinach was paler and slightly less crunchy than I am used to but was a large heaping mound. The pork dish was a little sweeter and wetter than I was expecting too. However, overall all of the food was delicious, and the portions very generous (especially the lunch specials). Our meal came out to a little over $80 after tax but before tip, and we had leftovers. Our usuals are honey walnut shrimp, filet mignon style beef, their fish tofu eggplant dish, house chicken, and west lake beef soup. Occasionally we will try something new and also order a veggie. I've been here several times and it's a decent place when you want some good Chinese comfort food. Majority of the time, I order takeout. I usually order the house special pan fried noodle (you need to request crispy otherwise it's the lo mein style). Theif fish filet with black bean sauce is good too. I wouldn't get the deep fried squid with spicy salt as a take out because it get soggy or too dry if you trout in the air fryer. That dish should be eaten as dine in. Not sure what happened to one of our orders earlier today. Everything looked good, except for a couple of dishes. 1. First, the fried chicken didn't look like a normal Chinese fried chicken, and everyone at home (including our guests from overseas) noticed the same. Not only that most part were burned (that you can't really see and tastes a crispy skin), but the meat was so dry. 2. Next was the fried calamari, which seemed to have been cooked on used and dirty oil. This is a super solid Chinese restaurant in a bit of a run-down Asian strip mall. The plaza is inside a 99 Ranch plaza with some of the stores unoccupied, so it's got a bit of that depressing vibe. The workers are all Chinese and they allowed me to practice my basic Chinese, it was so much fun. They also offered me a spoon to pick up the roasted peanuts, however I graciously declined and commented that I was not a weak foreigner who was incapable of picking up peanuts with my chop sticks. The food was amazing. It's not exactly a hole in a wall place, but it's definitely not going to win any beauty contests. There are two restrooms for each gender and the upkeeping was prestine. I shoved the Mongolian Beef and most of the Hainan Chicken with 3 bowls of rice into my belly. The Mongolian Beef had a great balance between the meat and veggies. The Hainan Chicken was the chilled variety with the yummy ginger oil. The chicken was well seasoned inside out like a duck and the flavoring wasn't lost in the chilling process. The service was super friendly, expedient and attentive. I wouldn't of expected this quality of food from this plaza or from this storefront. I'm glad I came here on a family's recommendation, it's 20 times better than the stuff sitting in the heat lamp at 99 Ranch :) read more

When we arrived we were immediately served with delicious peanuts appetiser, they're nicely seasoned. Except for the house noodle which I personally didn't really like (7/10), the rest of the food we ordered are delicious (10/10). Service is excellent, our server (he probably is the boss) was so nice. He came back several times to our table to make sure everything is ok with us. I arrived at 11:30am to give them some extra time (since it was Thanksgiving) and unfortunately the lady said that my order was not received. Even though they took my payment. I was not very happy about it and she said that I had to place an order and pay again, and that I should dispute the charge with my credit card company for the original order. I just found myself the most delicious Chinese cuisine in town. I enjoyed their Hainan chicken so much, super moist, smooth, and flavorful. The house special lobster, selected live by the chef and freshly cooked, is incredibly tender with savory flavors. Their deep-fried crispy chicken, perfectly cooked to order with rich flavor inside and out--no dry pieces. The walnut shrimp is generous portions, crispy & tender. The beef fillet is exceptionally soft and flavorful. The interior is very clean, and although the service may need a 10-15 minute wait due to made-to-order cooking, the delicious flavors make it well worth it. Located in a large plaza, ensure you park in the non-20 minute parking spots unless you are getting takeout. Solid 5 stars, can't wait to come back. Early Chinese New Year dinner with the family. They had a special on their lobster, so we ordered it and it was divine. Also had hot and sour soup, black mushrooms (but it came with broccoli which was not mentioned on the menu), seafood clay pot, and chicken with salted fish fried rice. Although the broccoli was not described, it was perfectly cooked and paired well with the black mushrooms. The hot and sour soup was a little spicier than expected but taste was good. The seafood clay pot included fish, squid, shrimp, and tofu. The tofu was silky and the texture of the entire dishes paired well with rice. Sad to give this update only months after our wonderful visit on my dad's birthday. It seems the quality of Happy Bee has greatly declined. Came with my parents tonight and ordered three dishes (ones we usually get) and all were extremely off. The soup was weirdly sweet, noodles were bland, hainan chicken was off. We voiced our opinions to the waitress (who is related to the owner), and she seemed very shocked and told us everyone thinks the food is good. They have since changed chefs since our February meal but according to her, there have been no complaints (ok lol) she was so bewildered she asked if she could taste our leftovers. We said sure. She tasted our noodles and said mm it's not as flavorful as usually huh? Well, it's better not to eat too salty! And after trying the soup she was like mm I've never had this soup before so I can't say. Such weird behavior lol. Why try our leftovers if you're going to just be defensive. She went on to explain their chef has 20-30 years of experience (irrelevant if they just don't cook well) the whole experience just left a bad taste in our mouths (pun intended). Just take the feedback and apologize - not defend and basically blame us for our taste buds lol. Solidified us never coming here again.
