BUSINESS PERMANENTLY CLOSING 6/28/26 Came here with some gals for afternoon tea. It's a cute little restaurant in Old Towne Orange. It's decorated really cute inside and out! Everything was creatively planned and decorated. It was also very clean and spacious inside and out. When you go in, there's a tea sampling station with the menus so you can see which tea you would like to order. Our server was really sweet, but she was the only one serving all of the tables, so she would come by every 10-20 minutes to check on us and some things we asked for didn't make it to the table. If they had more servers, customers would be happy with quicker service. The food and tea were delish! There were 6 of us so we shared a bunch of different teas. I really enjoyed the teas they had. The sweet and savory treats were really yummy! I really enjoyed them. Each person got 5 little savory treats and 4 sweet treats. I kind of wish we got one or two more for $45, but either way they were delicious! Unfortunately, my friends and I were not impressed by the afternoon tea food. I enjoyed curry chicken basket, the shrimp cake, and the papaya penna cotta, but everything else was just okay. The cucumber salad didn't really have any flavor. My friends felt the same. One positive was that they let you sample all of the teas beforehand, which is nice. I brought my bf's mom and aunties here to celebrate a few birthdays, and it ended up being the perfect spot for a special occasion! The restaurant is so cute, and all the bites are beautifully crafted and good. You can really tell how much detail goes into each one, and trying the different teas was such a fun and unique experience! We came around 3pm, which was great because if the afternoon tea bites don't fill you up (though honestly, they were more filling than expected!), you can also order from the dinner menu. Each tea set comes with one bite per person, so everyone gets to try everything from savory items to dessert. Since we were already there, we tried a few entrées, and the crab roe fried rice was amazing. They also offer free refills on the tea, and each person gets their own pot, just like a classic afternoon tea experience. Ambiance could be better as it is just a casual restaurant the street but the cute little tea pots upfront with option to literally sample each tea before buying was so unique as I have never seen this in any other spot. I had been wanting to try the afternoon tea here for a while since I kept seeing it pop up on social media. I have to say that I was very disappointed with the afternoon tea. The restaurant was very cute (my 6 yo was very impressed and said everything was so "fancy"). We really appreciated the tea sampling table they have for you to try all the teas before choosing one so you won't regret your choice. I was under the impression that there was an a la cart menu to order from in addition to the afternoon tea set and had intended to order a la cart for my daughter, however that was not the case. The server did say we could order individual items from the tea set a la cart, so we decided to order some additional dumplings for my child only to be told that it was $5 PER DUMPLING. You should have seen the look on our faces. I'm pretty sure even the server thought that was a ridiculous price and he quickly said he could give us two dumplings for $6. That was still a steep price to pay but infinitely better than $5/dumpling. We decided to just go with an extra two dumplings first and see what else our kid would eat from our afternoon tea set for two. The food tasted mostly fine, but the amount of savories was so small and unfulfilling. I've had many afternoon teas in many countries, including in a fancy hotel in Mayfair, London, as well as your small local tea house in Bath. The amount and quality of food did not justify the price at all. The scones were not traditional english scones but they tasted good and my child liked them. They were served with a whipped cream instead of clotted cream, which was disappointing. The desserts were all too sweet and nothing inspiring. My friend got the Earl Grey creme while I went with the lavender chamomile, both of which were delicious. However, next time I'd definitely go for the Earl Grey, as it was the smoothest one of its kind I've had yet! The food was truly a home run, with my highlights from the savory selection being the mushroom potsticker and curry chicken basket, and the raspberry lychee mousse as the standout from the sweets. The brown sugar scone was served with your traditional jam and cream on the side and was perfectly baked. Service was great, with our server checking on us frequently to ask if we wanted our teas to be refilled. My only minor critique is it would've been great had they offered some raw sugar packets or smaller sugar cubes, as the tea cups were tiny while the sugar cubes were large. There's a 90 minute limit, which was more than enough time for us to enjoy our tea and bites. First do a tasting of their teas that are set up on a table at the front of the restaurant. It did get a little congested with several of us tasting at the same time. However, it's an efficient way of tasting before you sit down and order your pot of tea. The bites are a set menu of sweets and savory. All was pretty good. It was more than enough to fill us up. The scones served with cream and jam were especially delicious! The place settings are tea service fancy. You get a big pot of tea and they make sure to refill as needed. We arrived about 20 minutes before our reservation and we were asked to return because the place was packed! Once we settled in, service was good. This place mixes eastern and western cultures to make an asian inspired high tea experiences that comes with aromatics and delicious snacks. It's one tea pot person. I got the Passionfruit Jasmine tea, and my cousin got the Earl Grey Créme. I love Jasmine tea. The passionfruit Jasmine tea was definitely fruity and floral. Yubee told us they usually steep the teas for about 5 min, so it's not too bitter. I also asked for a cup of half & half to make it a bit creamier. The earl grey creme had a slight sweet taste with a hint of citrus. All the sweets satisfied my sweet tooth! My favorite was the Black Sesame Hazelnut Choux! The savories were decent. I do agree the Cucumber Sandwich and Egg Salad Sando can use some seasoning or spice. I really enjoyed everything else. Pricing: It's $45 per person. The ambiance is peaceful. On the weekends only they offer a $45 fixed tea time menu which comes with 5 savories, 4 sweets and 1 pot of tea. We had reservations at 10:30am this past Saturday and we were greeted promptly upon entry. They have about 8 teas at check in where they give you a few minutes to try the different options. This was a bit rushed so I only was able to try 4 so I picked my pot of tea from the four I did try and I chose the jasmine passion fruit. It was a close tie with the chai. I do wish they had a tea flight option instead as it's tough fully committing to one tea during service. Otherwise our server was cheerful and punctual. She first brought our teas with creamer on the side. Then our food came on a tea stand. The top of the stand had the savory items and the sweets were on the bottom. We started with the scones which were phenomenal with the jam and butter. It was my favorite! I also really enjoyed the egg sando and the wonton. The sweets were a bit of a miss for me as I genuinely don't have a sweet tooth but I enjoyed it nonetheless. The raspberry lychee mousse was to die for! Otherwise I could have passed on the rest. This place is legit! I've been meaning to check out this place for months and finally went with my girlfriends. First, the ambiance was on point. Beautiful decor and the vibe was just right. The service was great - attentive and friendly server (shout out to Yubean K). The tea selection was fantastic -- we got to taste it first before ordering, which I personally love. The tea offerings were so many and they're all delicious. We ended up with earl grey crème, passion fruit jasmine, orchid, and ti kuan yi. My personal favorite was the orchid tea. Now let's talk about the sandwiches. The curry chicken basket was the bomb; it was packed with shredded chicken! It was very well seasoned and served in a tiny crunchy waffle basket. The cucumber sandwich was delicious, nicely seasoned and the bread was fluffy. The mushroom potsticker was nicely done, I could taste a few different mushrooms in one bite. The roasted veggie wonton was also tasty. The egg salad sando reminded me of the Japanese convenience store sandwiches. Overall, I enjoyed them all. I'm assuming because it was Mother's Day, maybe they were a little more frantic than usual. We got seated in a nice booth but it took a little time to get served. We got there at 12 but they'd already ran out of five different teas and didn't have enough samplers cups. The sample teas had soaked for so long that everything we tried was super bitter. Thankfully, the tea we ended up getting served was nice. As for the bites - all of the savory items were delicious. In fact, I could've eaten more of those. Please dont be delulu coming here thinking you'll have the best tea of your life! I know its expensive, that's how afternoon tea is. But it is on the higher end which takes off a star for the size per finger food. High tea is a time to enjoy company so bring some good ones . Everyone got one bite of food (literally one bite) as each item came in 4's, our fav was the curry chicken basket and egg sando. The size honestly left us wanting more but sometimes you dont want to stuff your face and feel gross after, so this amount was great and we left feeling light and happy. For the mains, we had the duck fried rice, honey walnut shrimp, "steak on crack," and orange chicken were all solid. The duck and wagyu dumplings were our favorites! The sweet and sour fish had great flavor but came as a whole branzino, which took a little extra effort--still worth trying if you're into whole fish. For dessert, we tried the yuzu tart, raspberry matcha mousse, and hojicha affogato--all beautifully presented and not too sweet! Service was warm and welcoming, which is rare at most Chinese restaurants--shoutout to Cindy, our amazing server who made the whole experience even better. This is a review for the afternoon tea only! Would normally rate this a 3.5, but rounded up for the dessert. Arrived about lunch-ish for our reservation and the place was pretty full already. Cute, but very small spot. We were a little worried when we saw the portion sizes, but we were able to leave full. The hot water was not refilled when we were there, at least no one came by to ask us and since everything was bite sized, we left after eating. The sandwiches were hit or miss; the cucumber had was just cucumber and lemon juice, but the others were better. The scones were ok, not bad but also not the best we'd ever had. However, the desserts were delightful. Are they the most imaginative? No; it's what you can get at any newer Asian patisserie. But, they were still yummy. I have visited for tea twice now and both times I enjoyed myself, moreso due to the tea, food, and company. My favorite part of this tea experience is that the flavors and teas are Asian-inspired. I have tried the Passionfruit Jasmine, Plum Oolong, and Dragonwell Green teas. All are good quality. The curry chicken basket (made with almond flour), veggie rangoon, and mushroom potsticker were delicious. Definitely appreciated the various types of mushrooms stuffed into the potsticker. The egg salad sando and cucumber sandwich were a bit plain and the white bread was a bit dry/stale. The sweets were all good. I liked the complex flavors of the black sesame chocolate hazelnut choux. Really liked the crispy/crunchy crust on the little raspberry mousse. I noticed that one sweet treat (matcha panna cotta) had been removed from the menu between my visit in June/July and my visit in late September. While that item was not particularly impressive, do take note that the price of the overall tea service has not changed despite one item being removed without replacement. I agree with other reviews about the service being hands-off. My party of two arrived at 11:30am, when only one other party of two was present in the restaurant. Even so, we waited quite a few minutes to check in for tea while the staff present cleaned up other tables and waited even longer to place our tea orders. The savory foods were great and a good mix of Asian English tea food. I did not enjoy the desserts. I honestly could do without them. The tea selection was wide and most of them were to my liking, so choosing was hard! The ambience of the restaurant was nice and I enjoy the decor. Service was amazing. It got super busy later but the staff were quick and observant. They noticed when water was low and if it got too hectic and they forgot to do something for a customer, they apologized and did it right away. Great service. I would recommend if you want to try, but I'm a bit disappointed the desserts weren't up to par. read more

Tea Modern Chinese is a charming high tea experience with an Asian-infused twist. Situated in Old Towne Orange, it is a bustling and modern take on a classic. The restaurant offers a fixed menu with multiple savory and sweet options. I felt that the presentation of the food was more impressive than the food itself, although our table agreed that the curry chicken basket, raspberry lychee mousse, and yuzu merengue tart were the best of the lot. At the front of the restaurant is an area to sample some of the teas the restaurant has to offer. We opted for the passionfruit jasmine, Darjeeling, and blooming tea (+$3 extra). All of the teas were cozy and fragrant. The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated. Parking can be pretty difficult on the weekends; there is a parking lot directly behind the restaurant, but it fills up quickly. Service was pleasant and attentive. Our waitress frequently checked in to see if we needed more hot water for our tea. There is a 90-minute limit on tables, and the check was placed on our table at exactly 90 minutes. If you're looking for a place to sit and relax after you've finished your food, this probably isn't the place for you. But if you're looking mg for an Instagram-worthy and unique experience, Tea Modern Chinese is the way to go. read more

I was here with friends to celebrate my birthday, first of all I love the concept, would still come back and visit, but maybe will try something else next. I loved and ate all my food, but honestly the small sweet desserts are just too sweet. This did not pass the highest form of compliment from an Asian person, 'this is not too sweet', if you know what I mean. Most of my friends didn't finish the sweets portion. My friends and I have been wanting to try this place so we made reservation about one month in advance. I love the area where this restaurant is located. You can find parking on the street or they even have some free parking lot. Tea Modern Chinese deco is nice. We came for tea service that is offer only on the weekend. The tea service is $45 per person. I thought the tea service was just okay. I was hoping for a more Chinese touch on the tea service. The food and desserts that was offer was standard but nothing that was great. We came with a table of 3 and 18% gratuity is automatic added on. For the service, I thought it fell short and did not deserve an 18% tip. They were missing all the adds on for the scones such as the cream and jam. We were not offer the sugar for our tea. Lastly, they didn't tell us that there was an additional charge of $5 per sandwiches. We order 3 additional sandwiches but we didn't think they would cost us $5 each. That was one of the most expensive half egg sandwich I ever had. The service was also very slow that we had to flag down the bill and go up and pay our bill. This review is for their afternoon tea I had to make reservations for high tea months in advance for a Sunday booking for 5 girls at 3pm. Some of my girls were a little late but they allowed us to get seated right away. Afternoon tea is $45 per person and they will automatically charge 18% gratuity. All the bites are small. You get 4 savory items, 5 sweet items, and a tea pot of your choice. Some girls left full and some were still hungry. I went with chrysanthemum tea which I absolutely hated. But they switch it to the mint one which I enjoyed. I appreciated that they switched it. For food, my favorite items included the egg salad sando, the curry chicken basket, and the scones. The rest of the items were okay. I thought pricing was very fair for what we got. It's more affordable than other afternoon tea spots. The service was also excellent. They made sure to check on us and get everything we needed. The inside of the restaurant is casual but chic and cute. It's great for smaller or large groups. It was a great afternoon tea experience and I would recommend it for anyone who wants afternoon tea with an Asian twist. I do want to come back to this place for their regular dinner. read more
