I visited Chai Wale in Orange yesterday for the first time with my wife and unfortunately, our experience was disappointing. We ordered one gobhi paratha and one aloo paratha. The aloo paratha was okay, but the gobhi paratha was poorly prepared--the gobhi filling was falling out of the paratha with every bite, making it very difficult and messy to eat. After our meal, we wanted to wash our hands. Since we had just eaten inside the restaurant, we were surprised when a Male employee at the front desk told us that we had to use the hand-washing facilities outside because the restaurant restroom are closed as there are outdoor restrooms for the international festivals. What made the situation more disappointing was that shortly afterward, a woman customer came in and was allowed to use the restroom inside without being directed outside. Seeing different instructions being given to different customers made us feel that the rules were not being applied consistently. Additionally, my wife ordered a cookie that was extremely dry and tough. Overall, this was not a good first experience. The food was average at best, and the inconsistent treatment at the front desk left a particularly bad impression. I believe every customer should be treated equally and given the same information and access, regardless of who they are. read more

Good thing I didn't tip (which I usually don't when it's order up front) because at the end, we realized we were supposed to bus the plates and trash ourselves. : |. Service was ok, we asked alot of questions because it was our first time there and there are no descriptions of any of the items which would have been helpful. They didn't seem too eager to help us understand the menu or offer suggestions. The food was ok, good in theory, it all sounded delicious, but the execution was lacking. The burritos lacked flavor, the chicken was dry (could have used more sauce/flavoring on the chicken) and there wasn't too many pieces of chicken. More rice than chicken. The prantha is a very thin soft bread with a cauliflower filling mix inside. It was soggy, dry, lacked flavor and it fell apart even when I cut it into pieces to share. It was completely what I was not expecting at all. I love Indian food because it's so flavorful and full of spices but..these were not. Would not order any of those again. I really looked forward to the desserts too but they were also lacking. The flavors were just not there at all. All a bit disappointing. We were here a couple of weeks ago, and overall, I really loved the ambience of the place. We ordered 3 burritos total--2 butter chicken and 1 spicy--along with aloo paratha, gobi paratha (which was a bit salty), and samosas, which were decent. We also got 4 drinks. The iced drinks were very bland, so I would suggest getting the hot drinks instead. The desserts, however, were amazing! We loved the tres leches and the pistachio cheesecake. Honestly, I would come back mainly for the desserts. The one disappointing experience was the service. We drove all the way from LA specifically to try this place. We placed our order, left the suggested tip, and were then told by one of the staff members (she was the barista) to put our dishes away when we were done eating. I mean... really? What is the point of leaving a tip if customers are expected to clear and put away their own dishes, like at a fast-food restaurant? And just to be clear, we had actually already stacked our dishes, wiped down our table before she even mentioned it because we're not the type of customers who feel entitled to leave a mess behind. But being specifically told to put our dishes away (she showed the bucket tray where she placed at the middle of the shop) after leaving a suggested tip was disappointing. My son has been following them on instagram and was looking forward to trying their gulabjamun latte. Let me tell you, this is one INSANELY creative drink and is a must try! You can taste the rose, cardamom and espresso with the perfect balance. Their cardamom chai is one of the best we have ever tried and believe me, this is after at least 50 different chais across multiple Indian restaurants. They have so many chai options! The ambience inside is so unique, beautiful Indian touches to the decor with nostalgic Bollywood music. Their food is amazing too, we tried butter chicken and butter paneer burrito, it was perfectly crisp on top and the filling was delicious. And then a must try is their dessert! I was very excited to try this place since there are not many places like this around Orange County. I was even more excited to try the butter chicken burrito! The place is perfectly located near the Orange circle neighborhood. It's great for a day out, walk around and check out the small shops, buy plants, get dessert or drinks, or check out the farmer's market if you come on the weekend mornings. Even better is that it's located on the corner and has nice indoor and outdoor seating. The staff were just okay, nobody rude but nobody friendly. When I asked one question about the drinks, the guy looked exasperated to have to explain to me the differences. I didn't dare ask for a recommendation. My order was incorrect, maybe he really didn't want to listen to me, or it was an error with whoever made it. It's not that big of a deal but I wanted my chai hot and it came out iced, but the ice was already melted so it was watered down. The flavor is average, not enough depth or complexity but who knows, maybe because it was watered down from the melted ice. Also tried the chicken butter burrito and it was good but it definitely needs to be upgraded. The tortilla was warm and just crispy enough where they heated it, but not burnt. The butter chicken flavor was not complex but it was still delicious. The downside is that the only other filling in the burrito is rice and the rice was undercooked. It would have been WAY better with much less rice, add potatoes and dare I say, a few tomatoes? Honestly, their uniqueness in this community saved them, because this place based on this experience was average/3 stars. But I'm only knocking off 1 star because I'd really like them to stay here, and hopefully continue to improve and blow my socks off next time I'm here. I frequently visit Chaiwale and usually get the same - tiramisu latte while my boyfriend gets the chocolate rose coffee. However, roughly an hour after getting our usual drinks it didn't sit well with us. I've been experiencing upset stomach issues and didn't eat prior so it wasn't anything I ate before that. I really enjoy getting coffee from here, but was very taken back when I got sick. I got sick today - we got coffee at 11 a.m. and I am still currently having issues. :( read more

They have unique, Indian inspired drinks such as the gulab jamun latte (strong cardamom taste with a yummy gulab jamun on top), mango lassi matcha (the creaminess of the mango lassi perfectly complemented the matcha cream top), and the seasonal ube lassi (also perfectly creamy, not too sweet, and had a strong ube flavor). The food is SO good!!! My grandpa is from India and all the food they have here makes me so nostalgic for when our family would make Indian food and when he'd get me Mango lassis. This place is in such a convenient spot and you can always find parking and get your steps in. The staff helped us out in choosing what chai to try since we weren't to familiar with it. The recommendation was great for a first timer we tried both hot and iced but I think hot was the best because the flavor doesn't get watered down. Butter chicken burrito was amazing. I have never had butter chicken so this was my first time trying it and it was amazing in the burrito I really loved it. My favorite thing was the rose pistachio loaf oh my gosh I loved the flavors and it was complemented well with the chai. Inside it's decorated super cute with a really beautiful mural. We came here for a nighttime sweet treat and settled on the gulab jamun cheesecake after much deliberation since all the cakes looked so good. It was as delicious as it looked! It's been a while since our last visit so I was thrilled to stop by for dessert. The place gets pretty busy on weekends. You seat yourself and the layout is laidback and relaxing. We ordered the mango lassi cheesecake and pistachio cheesecake. Mango Lassi Cheesecake- The cheesecake base is rich and creamy. You get a strong mango flavor go balance it out. I've passed by this cafe countless times and I finally made it in to Chaiwale! I asked the person taking my order for his favorite chai and he suggested the cardamom chai. I got it iced and my husband ordered an iced pistachio latte. We also grabbed a chocolate chip cookie and a slice of Nutella espresso loaf. We took a seat while we waited. I discovered this place from a complimentary Yelp experience a few months ago and absolutely fell in love with the chai and desserts here, so much so that during my last visit, I ordered an entire cake for my in laws anniversary. I called them earlier in the day with this request and I was told that although they typically don't sell the entire cake, they'd be able to accommodate the request with what they had available. I ended up ordering a pistachio cheesecake and omg, I was SO impressed by it!! If you're a pistachio fan like I am, you'll absolutely love it. The cake itself was around $50, which is a bit steep but well worth it for special occasions. You can also buy cake slices, which is a more affordable option. The store itself has a warm and cozy ambiance. Service has been friendly whenever I've been here. I was very disappointed with my experience at Chaiwale. The service was slow, but what made the visit worse was the attitude of the staff. Basic customer service seemed to be lacking, and interactions felt dismissive and unfriendly. As a paying customer, I expect to be treated with courtesy and respect. Unfortunately, the staff's demeanor made it feel like customers were an inconvenience rather than valued guests. The food and drinks may be good, but poor service and a negative attitude can ruin the overall experience. I hope management takes customer feedback seriously and focuses on improving staff training and customer service. Until then, I would hesitate to return or recommend this location to others. Chaiwale is this great shop, which, as the name implies, offer some very good chai. More than just chai, however, they also offer a really good selection of teas, some coffee-orientated drinks, and some soft drinks that are commonly found only in India All of them are very well prepared, and very-very good. More than just drinks, this business also offers a very nice selection of food items. They have things like masala burritos, breakfast burritos, avocado toast, and some very good bakery items. Meaning, you can come in here and really enjoy either a meal, a small snack, all in association with whatever drink you want to consume. In terms of seating, they have some nice space inside. Which is where I always like to sit, because it is air-conditioned and very nicely laid out. I will say one thing to keep in mind is that this is a popular business, so it's not unexpected for it to be fairly full inside. Just keep that in mind. Chaiwale also has a nice selection of outdoor seats. This is a great place to kick back if you want to enjoy the air. Of course, the outdoor seating is based upon the weather. So, if it's raining or really hot, you may not want to sit there. And, of course, this is also a great cafe to grab something to-go. One way or the other, this is a great place to grab a really unique drink, a nice something to eat, and to sit back and enjoy that drink and/or food item with family or friends or by yourself. read more

This place is right on the corner. There's plenty of seating both outdoors and indoors. Indoors is nicely air conditioned. Many people just hanging out, relaxing or on their laptops. You order and pay at the counter. They give you a number and deliver your drink and food to your table. There's a refrigerator with bottles and canned sodas. If I hadn't already eaten breakfast in the area, I would have grabbed breakfast here, served all day. I did grab a mini chocolate donut. Delicious, moist, and fresh. All their treats look really good. It was difficult to decide. Huge cookies to share and slices from loafs of cakes. I had a 12 oz. Masala Chai with oat milk. It was super hot. It was so hot, I could feel the steam on my hand from the tiny hole of the cover of my cup. I had to take the cover off and let it cool off. I could see the steam rising from my drink. Chaiwale uses actual blends rather than powders/tea bags that other places might opt for, and it really shows through the deep and rich flavor! Their mango lassi was not really my favorite so I don't know if I can recommend that, but definitely try the saffron chai! Yum! Their kulfi tres leches is to die for too. What a delightful and tasteful experience here!! Was in the area after an event and wanted to grab a coffee and stumbled upon this place near the orange circle. So pleasantly surprised when we walked in. They were busy and most tables were occupied. Great sign! We noticed they have indoor and outdoor seating which is a big plus. After browsing the Hilbert Museum, I made my way to try out an Indian café for the first time. I ordered an iced golden latte (12 oz.) ($5.49) with whole milk and rasmalai milk cake ($7.99). The cashier was kind and helpful in explaining the drinks and desserts I had questions about. The golden latte was abundant in flavor, though not excessive. The color presentation popped out even more under sunlight. After I finished the drink, I tried some of the leftover spice at the bottom of the cup, and it was pleasantly earthy and quite savory. While I don't prefer these types of flavors, I still thought the golden latte was solid. I'd want to return to try more of their specialty lattes. The rasmalai milk cake was very filling and sweet. The rasmalai were small and round shapes of curdled milk. The dessert also included saffron and pistachios. I chose this dessert based on what was shown in the display case. While it wasn't exactly my cup of tea, I did enjoy trying this type of cake for the first time. I was able to find a stool to sit on, but the bar table had me facing the sun directly. It would've been nice if there were blinds, especially on a warm and bright day. However, another stool opened up eventually with shade available.
