Kitchen is amazing, service is the WORST! Been here around 10 times and every time was just a hit or miss as the other reviewers said. One time the Maître d was extremely rude. She was MIA for a while so we found our own table and she kicked us out of it and then refused to seat us for another 10 minutes. Another time they lost our order for 30 minutes even though we kept asking what's happening. This past time they got my wife's order wrong [Delivered Shnitzel instead of Grilled chicken] and since she was hungry we asked if they could just leave the plate on the table with fries and take the schnitzel and replace it once the grilled chicken was done. They not only refused but even after asking they IGNORED us and wouldn't give her any of the fries. She had to wait to get her food another 10 minutes. This place is just the worst in service. Do not go here if you care about your well being and don't want to get coronavirus. THE OWNER of the restaurant refuses to wear a mask. He walks in and out of the restaurant, visits the kitchen, rearranges tables, and take orders from patrons outside. He also allows others inside his restaurant who aren't wearing the state mandated masks. While we were sitting there, we watched as a woman in a wheelchair who was at least 80+ years old and not wearing a mask was pushed into the restaurant. Perhaps most alarming, the same owner was vaping inside of the restaurant, effectively blowing his germs all over the restaurant where food was actively being carried through to get to customers outside. The entire time, the owner was either letting his friends or just other customers who were also not wearing masks into the restaurant, and the hostess checking people in was barely wearing a mask--her entire nose was exposed. I can't even count the number of health and safety violations I was exposed to while eating here. This place should be shut down by the city. I genuinely felt at risk eating here so I can only imagine how someone who was immunocompromised would feel. This is my go to restaurant. Every busy place has its ups and downs, but whenever we want a good meal, there is no place we opt for more tan Hapisgah. All the salads are always fresh. Their meats are made on the spot. They aren't cheap, but this is the best food you can get of it's kind. If you want fast food, go elsewhere for pizza. This is kick ass dinner, and salads and fries, or shish kabob with yellow rice & string beans. Sometimes the food is prepared by substitute chef, don't give up . Lets start with saying that I usually do not like Hummus.. so I dont really go for it but the person I was eating with said this place was known for hummus.. so we got it. We got the mushrooms with hummus and oh my god, it was so good, we couldnt stop eating it! We got chicken and pasta, another person had salmon, we also got the house steak Lets start with the entree dishes over all, when we asked for string beans, I expected wonderful sautéed string beans no, it was cold string beans in this weird red sauce, I would say I was the most disappointed in this. Also thought the house steak was good but for a small size.. it was like 54 dollars... yes steak was good, but it was so small.. and too expensive. I stop at the Hapisgah restaurant after 10 years I did not visit there, I remember a great Israeli food with great service. To my surprise the food was so bad and teasels we order the grill chicken it was not grilled it was made on a plate and was really bad we order Humus plate the it was watery with no taste at all, I cannot remember as bad Humus as this any place I have bee to. Went in with a group of 8 for a family birthday. We generally go here once a year. Service was fine. Food. Meh. I ordered the rib steak, medium rare with french fries and string beans. I also ordered Kibbeh as an appetizer. Kibbeh was dry and flavorless. Steak was served medium to medium well, and was dry as soon as it hit my mouth. String beans were from a can with some Mediterranean spices. It appears that it is not possible to order an actual fresh cooked vegetable in this place. How could they not have a vegetable option in this day and age other than overcooked canned string beans. French fries were flavorless. Seemed to be commercial fries, not fresh cut. Most of the other party members agreed that the food was mediocre at best. With few options in the kosher world, I guess this is what you get for your money. Niece had chicken Francaisse. It seemed pretty good. Two members of our party had grilled chicken. Dry. Try someplace else if you want good food. read more

YUM! I usually rate Kosher restaurants on a separate scale, but Hapisgah is four-star worthy even outside of the Kosher universe. The humus is on point, and if you're in the mood for an appetizer with a little kick, try the matbucha (spicy tomato salad). Fresh, hot pita is complimentary and hard to resist -- we had to have the waitress take the basket away at some point to save room for the entrees. I had the mixed chicken with mushrooms and onions, which is served sizzling hot in a skillet and comes with two sides (I'd go w/the yellow rice and green beans). It's freakin' delicious, and you'll have more than enough leftover to bring home for another night. The steak looked great as well. Service isn't the friendliest, but the food more than makes up for it. Whether you keep Kosher or not (I don't), Hapisgah is definitely worth checking out. read more

This place was fantastic, but packed. I would advise arriving early. We arrived on a Sunday night around 5pm, by 6pm, there was not a seat in the house and a line out the door. I ordered the persian chicken kebab which came with one large skewer, a side of grilled tomato and onions and the yellow rice with green beans on top. The yellow rice was some of the best that I've ever eaten and seasoned perfectly. The shish kebab was good, but not the greatest. I had both the baby chicken and the persian along with beef which was cooked medium and nice cuts of meat. Speaking of the best I have ever eaten, the pita bread here is excellent, go easy on it though because they keep bringing it to you. I would recommend ordering the combo appetizer with baba, hummus, and several other items on it. The pickled cauliflower they serve is quite excellent as well. We had a large party so I got to try several things. The salmon was cooked perfectly and the rosemary potatoes, while a small serving were flavored perfectly. One person in our party ordered a sushi roll, not sure how it was, but it looked well prepared. Overall, excellent place. Would highly recommend it for a quality meal. read more

My parents just moved to Forrest Hills and we were excited to eat at one of the many Russian Kosher steak houses in the area. The others got really poor Yelp reviews except for Hapisgah and one other. Made a reservation for 6 people at 7pm on a Sunday. Was very busy and had to wait 10 min to be seated, so highly recommend a reservation! Only negative is there's no way to reserve online either through open table or on their website. They have free valet parking which was great on a rainy night. 4 of us ordered rib eye steak, which was cooked to perfection (both on and off the bones). $35 for the rib eye seemed reasonable given it's kosher and delish. Side item options were unimpressive but still tasty. My mother in law ordered the chicken shish which was dry. That was to be expected though - always go with the baby chicken. And my brother in law ordered the spicy chopped beef kabob and thought it basically tasted like a hamburger. Nice decor with good service. Granted I used to work there, but Hapisgah is a pretty good restaurant and definitely serves the community well. They have a very friendly wait staff and management and a lot of the customers know each other and interact. it's a good environment. They have a lot of good food. All of the salads are good, though I'm not a fan of eggplant salads. They serve fresh bread and if you eat them with an order of humus and tahina...mmm, good stuff. Oh, Queens. You are so so so so so so far away for this Brooklyn/sometimes City girl. When my fiance's mom insisted that like eight of us schlep out to Hapisgah for dinner my initial thought was, this place better the THE BOMB. It was pretty great, not going to lie. The mixed platter of appetizers was the only thing I would maybe pass on. But the portions were huge for our main courses, I had a beef shish kebab that was cooked perfectly and the sides were more than enough to fill me up. I have never had a bad meal here. This is such a tasty place the steaks are perfect. What I can greatly recommend is the Pita bread. This is some of the best bread I have ever eaten and certainly the best Pita I have ever eaten in my entire life. I have taken my date out to eat here and the atmosphere was great. There is a bar here as well that adds to the establishments allure. The price is right for a classy night out without having to break the bank. As afar as the desserts go, I ordered a hot sufle'e and a hot chocolate chip dish and they were amazing, my date and I were particularly amazed considering that there was no dairy in the dessert and it was so great. I have been here several times over a 5 year period and they truely have the best fish I have tasted. The special fish is called St. Peters and is a must for anyone. Hapigah has several Kosher delights arranging from chicken to meat skewers, and all of them are worth a repeat visit! I went with a friend and had an amazing time there. Even when the restaurant was at almost full capacity we were able to hear each other very well. The music was nice and unobtrusive adding to the classy ambience. The food was incredible, reasonably priced for what you get. We started off with sushi, I got the Union l which was incredible and he got a California roll which was standard. As soon as he finished his roll the waiter served his salad- good timing. While I was still enjoying my sushi (I'm a slow eater) our waiter brought out my burger (my friend already received his chicken shishkabob) which was okay, I would have preferred he wait as I still wasn't done with my sushi and wanted to enjoy some of my friend's salad. They cooked my burger perfectly and it tasted quite heavenly- very recommended to get the deluxe burger. Bonus it comes with fries, unlike every other kosher meat place I've been too. Kudos Hapisgah. Our waiter was pretty great, except when we were ready to leave he disappeared on us. When he came back to our table after my friend flagged him down he apologized and admitted he forgot about us.
