This Uncle Jack's location was not busy on a Friday Night at Prime Time 7PM?! I was surprised to see that there were only a few tables occupied as I was expecting the place to be packed. I made sure to secure a reservation since I had a large group; 9 of us in total, to celebrate two birthdays. Expectations were high given its reputation as a classic steakhouse, but I had not been to this location before. I've always had a great experience in Manhattan. Overall, this was just a "mid" experience - reason being mainly the food. Our server was fine - he took our orders and successfully managed all of our drinks. However, he only checked on us twice and it took a bit of time to get his attention for the check. The other staffers that brought out our food, extra plates or silverware were attentive as needed. We definitely ordered a lot of food! However, each dish was underwhelming and not memorable. What would have been a nice dinner with family and friends, but the quality was just not there. To be honest, the favorite of the night besides the $130 bottle of wine (Chateau du Parc), was the appetizer - thick cut maple glazed bacon which they now serve on a clothesline instead of on a warm plate, a trend these days. And the other memorable dish was the organic mesclun salad. The tomatoes and goat cheese were really fresh, and the salad was not overly dressed. Noticed I didn't mention the steaks. Meh. Other appetizers we had: - Charred Spanish Octopus (a very busy dish, needed to be simpler)- Lobster Bisque with chunks of lobster meat, meatballs for the table, and baked clams (bread crumbs were good) For dinner/shared by all: - we ordered two orders of "Porterhouse for two" to share at each end of the table. It was cooked as ordered, medium rare but it was not well seasoned. And it was more rare then medium... Still good for leftovers but not how it should've been. - Prime Rib Chop (aka Fred Flintstone) which was a 35-day dry-aged long bone Tomahawk chop. It was quite the presentation but flavor profile totally a miss. I did wrap it to go to save the bone and to re-cook - Prime Filet Mignon - lightly seasoned and slightly over cooked - The Big Jack Burger, very decent burger and cooked perfectly as ordered. It's always a treat coming here, so it naturally felt like the go to for Father's Day. The staff is friendly and accommodating. Our server Angel was top notch. He ran through the menu for my father and really got him excited for the dinner. The menu is pretty simple - meat. Crabcakes and lamb chop appetizers were a hit. I, almost, wish that both had entree options. The entree portions are relatively large but cooked really well. The steak always comes out very tender and flavorful. The sides are not so great. The mashed potato was cold and missing salt. Broccoli and creamed spinach was ok. The steak fries were burnt and dry, very odd texture and disappointing. The bacon corn brulee was the best side. While lunch service was still spot on, the prices have gone up and the food taste/quality has gone down. Uncle Jacks Shrimp Scampi ok, baked clams wet bland mush. Wedge salad w blue cheese and bacon, barely any of either. I was so looking forward to the breaded veal shop with cherry peppers. This could've been such a lovely experience but the knucklehead waiter that tended to us ruined it. My 2nd visit here was sabotaged by his (Angel's the name) unprofessionalism and UNCOUTHNESS! He was horrendous. Not sure why he is even a staff member of this lovely establishment. His potty mouth and constant self insertion into our private conversations were appalling. I've never had to deal with such foolery while dining out before. I really wanted to tell him to "Get LOST" on several occasions..he kept lingering near our table eavesdropping and giving his opinion on topics when no-one asked or cared what he thought..!!! Came in with a party of 4, we didn't make a reservation but we were seated immediately. We got the porterhouse for 2 ($149), prime filet 12oz ($55) , and steak fries($12), all medium rare. My favorite was the prime filet, it was cooked to perfection and it bursted with flavor. The fries were normal wedges, nothing really stood out about it. The porterhouse was okay too. We were told that there was a porterhouse for 3 but we just stuck to 2, which I'm glad we did. I kind of expected more from this because it was so pricey. Quaint & cozy is how I would describe the decor - nice, spacious bar. It can feel a little tight but it's not the biggest restaurant so they make do with the space they have. Their thick cut maple glazed bacon is killer - almost melts in your mouth & that flavor makes you close your eyes in happiness for just a heavenly moment - I really enjoyed their Oysters "Jackefellar" too. Creamed spinach is also on point along with the garlic mash. Perfect portions & I have to resist the urge to order all the sides simultaneously. I'm fat, but not that fat ...so I tell myself. *sob Porterhouse was amazing. As were all the cuts - of course it's pricey but perfect when you want to spoil yourself. They had raisin bread, everything cracker, regular crackers and regular bread. For the entrees I had the Wagyu burger which was loaded with flavor and juice topped with sesame seeds, I also had a loaded baked potato (came with cheese and bacon bits inside and sour cream on the side), and the Porterhouse steak that came with juice inside a hot plate. My husband and I come here all the time. The food is pretty much alway spot on. I mean there are nights when we say it could have been better. We decided to come the other night and sit by the bar. I'm not sure if he's a new bartender but I never seen him before. He was so rude and never acknowledges you. When talking to him he keeps what he's doing and never looks up at you. The martini was not good at all. And I always come here for the them. Maybe he was having a bad day but not good. Hopefully when we go back he's attitude is different. We made reservations via Seated for 6:30pm on a Thursday - the dining room was around half-full when we arrived, and we were seated immediately. The interior is a little smaller than I expected - decorated in a more traditionally elegant style - and there are a handful of booths for outdoor dining as well. We ordered a Caesar salad to start; I ordered the 8oz boneless NY strip for my entree and my friend the 8oz prime filet mignon; and we also had a garlic mashed potatoes on the side to share. Salad was very, very average. The lettuce, the sauce, the (somewhat odd) single, large crouton - everything was bland and just quite mediocre. A nice touch, though, was that even though we didn't ask for it, our server kindly arranged for it to be served on two plates for us to share easily. My NY strip was not bad - cooked nicely to medium-rare as ordered - and generally had a good, tender flavour. My cut had a little too much fat but other than that, I was pretty happy with my steak. My friend's filet was great too - juicy and tender, with that nice sear all around. Garlic mashed potatoes were really heavy; not bad flavour per se, but after a few bites it became more and more difficult to swallow. All in all, not a bad meal, but I think definitely way, way more expensive than warranted. We both ordered the smaller 8oz size, so of course we weren't expecting some huge steak on our plates, but ultimately the portion size just didn't seem worth the final cheque amount. I'm not sure if maybe one of their more premium cuts would have been a better value, but for this price point I'm not eager to come again to find out. read more

The concise, traditional steakhouse menu keeps the focus on what diners come for, and the in-house dry aging of their steak adds a noticeable difference. As all restaurants have gotten more pricey, its to be expected that this is not a budget experience. Wines start at $65 per bottle, and even without alcohol it's hard to drop less than $100 pp before tax and tip. But the ambiance, wait staff, professionalism, attention to detail and quality of the food merit the $$$$ price tag. Three of us shared a bottle of Chianti, appetizers, salad, a porterhouse, and sides, $140pp including tax and 20% gratuity. Highly recommend. For a special occasion, a special meal or just a treat, in my opinion, Jack's is among the best. read more

It's been over a year since I last ate at a fancy steakhouse. I was so excited to finally dine in and dusted off my shoes. The Covid pandemic has reduced me to working from home as I traded my work shoes for a comfy pair of bunny slippers. My feet have lost the sensation of how it feels to walk in shoes again. I made reservations via the "Open table" app which was a breeze to use. Bill, the maitre d was pleasant and greeted us warmly as he checked us in and performed the Covid dine in checklist which encompassed checking our temperature and ensuring we filled out our contact tracing information. The interior from the walls, ceilings and floor were upscale as it looks like they didn't spare any expense. Dino was our server and his service was impeccable. The menu is pretty typical for steakhouses. We ordered the: 1. Crabcake - The crabcake was on the smaller side and the large plate only made it look smaller, but the crabcake was moist and flavorful and the remoulade type sauce just tied everything up together nicely. 2. Cesar salad - simple but delicious. 3. Porterhouse for two - Perfectly seared and cooked medium rare. The strip and the loin section had a beefy and delicious flavor, the au jus just gave it that extra kick of moistness 4. Side of cream of spinach and garlic mash potatoes - what's not to love? 5. Cappuccino - smooth and perfect way to end a delicious meal 6. Vanilla ice cream and chocolate lava cake - This was complimentary as we were celebrating our wedding anniversary. The cake was decadent and delicious. I found myself at Uncle Jack's for an educational in-service for work. I like attending these since it gives me a chance to learn something new, network, and more times than not try a new restaurant. I am admittedly not a big steak eater, but will indulge when at a steakhouse, so off I went. Uncle Jack's is located on Bell Blvd; I know this is one of the main strips of Bayside, but I am not too familiar with all of the eateries on this block. From what I saw, there seems to be a lot so a return visit is definitely on my agenda. Anyway, walking into Uncle Jack's, it instantly gave me old school vibes. The decor was somewhat masculine with a dark color scheme, similar to other steakhouses I've been to. We were seated downstairs in a private room where that decor continued. Since this was an in-service, we were given a prix fixe menu. I decided to start with the house salad which contained the usual salad components. What made it stand out to me was that it was dressed in an almost Russian-style dressing which was atypical of restaurant salads (to me, at least). I got the filet mignon as a main; it was seasoned well and overall was a good cut of beef. It came with sides of mashed potatoes and creamed spinach which were very tasty. Dessert was a sampling of mousse, cheesecake, pecan pie, and molten lava cake which were all very good. Service was friendly, and the food came out at a good pace relative to the presentation given; I've been to dinners where this was not the case, so kudos to Uncle Jack's. While I don't normally gravitate to steakhouses, Uncle Jack's has piqued my interests, and I wouldn't be against returning if given the opportunity. read more

We finally decided to give it a go for my girlfriend birthday, but unfortunately, it didn't live up to expectations. We ordered a variety of dishes: the 90-day ribeye for two, ribeye for one, filet mignon, and the New York strip, essentially a bit of everything to sample. Some dishes on the menu didn't have prices listed, which I didn't mind as long as the flavors matched the premium vibe. I asked for my steak well done, but it arrived medium well. I had to ask the waiter to cook it longer because it tasted a bit raw, and even then, the steak was still bland, with little to no flavor, which was a major letdown. My first bite wasn't what I had hoped for, and I quickly started to regret having so much steak left to eat. The service didn't help either. The waiter seemed rushed and kept coming over to clear the table and hand us the check, making the experience feel less enjoyable. As expected, the prices were high, the flavor didn't justify the cost. Everyone in our group felt the same and complained about the lack of flavor in their steaks. Most agreed this would be their first and last time at Uncle Jack's. Even the birthday girl, who didn't have to pay for her meal, was disappointed, as she had high expectations for the place. It doesn't seem like this restaurant is interested in building a loyal customer base. We ordered the porterhouse for two, and it came out completely burnt. It was so badly charred that one or two end pieces literally crumbled like charcoal. The pork chop was dry to the point of being inedible. The baked oysters were buried under a thick layer of cheese, making it impossible to even see the oysters, and we think one of them didn't even have an oyster inside. The desserts were inconsistent--one had strawberries while the same dessert served to someone else didn't. It was clear they weren't putting any care into their food or presentation. On top of that, there's an administrative fee that essentially forces customers to tip over 20%, with the minimum being 18%. The service was okay, but the food was terrible.
