Ordered delivery and it arrived quickly so that's why they earned a star. Food, however deserves a zero. One of the items we ordered was apparently misread so we ended up with a random item that was pretty much tasteless. We also ordered 2 types of dumplings but got two orders of the same one. It was probably chicken and veggies. We're not really sure because it tasted like cabbage and we scrambled to find any meat in it. Soup dumplings - oh my, they apparently forgot to add soup. They were bone dry! Cucumber salad tasted terrible. Needless to say we couldn't finish our dinner. I can't remember last time we had such a disastrous food experience. I ordered 3 orders of salad rolls. Original, pork and chicken. Out of the 6 rolls only one wasn't split. The pork ones were split so far you had to use a fork. All of them lacked flavor and the shrimp/pork wasn't even edible. Also ordered dumplings and spicy wontons which were decent. The bbq pork noodle bowl was decent but none of it tasted fresh or even good. There are many better options. Save your money and go somewhere else. read more

Man oh man. I always search for the good dumplings. This place was local and convenient so we figured we'd give it a try. The dumplings are by far, and I'm being dead serious... by far the worst dumplings I've ever had in my life. I had to spit the porkball out on my tray from the soup dumplings because of cartilage/bone? It was terrible. Terrible. Customer service also annoyed me. No one wanted to work and a lot of people just standing around and one older women who was working her butt off. It sucks giving a business 1 star but I just want to warn review readers how terrible their dumplings are. They also stick to the tiny little pan and the juice just falls out. I spent over $100 here and tried almost everything. I forced myself to throw my dinner up when I got home. It didn't sit well and I was grossed out. Cleanliness: 4 Food: 3 Service: 4 I've been to HAP twice. I must say that the service is very friendly, but their estimation of time your food will come out is quite inaccurate. This is not a place that you would want to dine at if you are under time constraints. The first time I brought my mother here and we dined in. We ordered a few dumplings, siu mai, and some salad wraps. While we were there waiting for our food, an angry customer came in to complain because he and his wife had been waiting too long for their food. The restaurant had one other patron waiting, aside from the angry man, his wife, and my mother and I. He explained that they needed to go and that they had waited too long for their food. We also waited a long time for our food, but luckily we weren't in a hurry that day. They make everything fresh but everything tasted about equal to what you would find from the frozen section of an Asian Market. For the time it took to prepare, it was very underwhelming. I figured maybe they just had a bad day, so I decided to try this place a second time when I ended up in this part of town again. I went in and ordered two orders of siu mai, and some pork bao. Again the staff was very friendly and I was told 20 minutes, and the place was empty when I walked in. I can understand that perhaps they had some take-out orders called-in but I waited nearly an hour for my food. Two other patrons came in after me for pickup orders and we all sat around waiting. Again the food was underwhelming and I ended up tossing about half of my order away. The long wait and poor time estimation of when food will be ready is really a big downside of this restaurant. It is frustrating because you pay first and then are treated to a very long wait for just okay food made fresh that doesn't taste much better than what you can find frozen. read more

I am a small business owner myself, so unless the food and service was abysmal, I won't leave less than a 4 star review. Having said that, the meal I had from Hap today was very sub par. The bahn mi had no jalapeño, a lot of wilty vegetables, and the bread was soft like a hoagie instead of like the typical crusty bread Vietnamese sandwiches have to offer. The meat filled pastry was good - the meat filling was well seasoned and tender. The puff pastry may have been store bought- it left a very thick coating on my mouth similar to what hydrogenated oils often do. Service was quick and friendly, which I always appreciate. I am wavering between 2 and 3 stars. On Halloween evening we decided to try Hap, as we were on their side of town after making a quick trip to Trader Joe's. My husband had read about them after Googling Dim Sum in the greater Portland area. We were unaware they had opened as we are almost never in the Walmart that their eatery is near. Upon entering the business it seemed tidy with nice pictures displayed of their food. We has some communication issues with the young man taking our order and had to review and amend it more than once. He needs more training in our opinion. I tried to order a Bahn Mi and asked for egg on top, like I get in many other places I order the same style sandwich from. The young man checked they do not do that. My husband orderEd steamed and soup dumplings and a bowl, which I forget what the ingredients were. The meat was too dry was his first complain. I changed my order to Salmon Salad rolls and I was going to share the dumplings with my husband. The dumplings came out served in the bottom of black plastic take out containers, most in foil cups I believe. They were uninspIring. We ate them because we were pretty hungry. My salad roll was different but pretty good. It was 2 for 7.95. I took one home and ate it the next day. The bowl my husband ordered came last it was almost to the table and the person who was delivering it was called back. Then they did something out of my sight for a minute or so. Then it came back to the table with the bowl. My husband was not pleased with it and was equally disappointed with the dumplings. I wondered if they were frozen then quick steamed for us in some manner. The little tin cups they came in made think that was possible. Another thing that was annoying but our fault for not speaking up was after our food arrived we were the only ones in there about 6:30 at night and the door was open on a cold, damp, rainy evening. We never took our coats off. I may give them one more chance but my main reason for writing this review is to try to implore them to stop serving dine in customers with plastic containers that are going to the landfill. Please use plates. I would be happy with Chinett plates over getting served in partial takeout containers. The same with the plastic water glass, it is was for a 16 oz drink. I would like a smaller cup or restaurant glass. If everyone who served at Hap is served the same way it is sad the amount of food containers they are contributing to our landfills unless they are using a Ridwell, like service. This place may suit some Northwest palates but if you have traveled and experienced eating similar food in other cities, do not have high expectations for what you will eat here. I will be fair and return one more time if just for the Salad Roll. read more

Well, despite the mixed reviews, I was excited to try the Hap Restaurant, especially because I'm a night shift worker/night owl and it's open really late. So, earlier tonight at around 10pm, I called in an order and drive all the way from Gresham to pick it up. The order wasn't ready when I got there, but I only had to wait about 10 minutes. I was fine with that ... However, when my partner and I got home to try the food, we were pretty dissatisfied. First of all, I ordered crispy chicken potstickers and was given steamed ones. Doughy dumplings was NOT what I was looking forward to. Then, the turmeric rice was so hard, dry, and flavorless that I actually decided to eat my food with the soft, fresh jasmine rice we had at home. The pork belly was flavorful, but EXTREMELY fatty. If a restaurant is going to charge $10 for a small plate of pork belly, it should be more skin and meat than fat! The salad rolls (we ordered shrimp with pork and lemongrass chicken) were bland and just OK. I don't know what they were missing, but they just had no flavor, which I thought was weird. I mean, I didn't think it was possible to mess up a salad roll. Furthermore, the "grilled" lemongrass chicken rolls did indeed have quite a bit of dry lemongrass chicken in them, but the chicken certainly wasn't grilled! Why do people advertise GRILLED meat and then use something that was just pan-fried or something?! Lastly, the pork and shrimp shumai was, like everything else, pretty flavorless. My partner said it was like a bland pork meatball with a shrimp on top. Overall, the food and milk teas I ordered was not worth the $50+ I paid. If you're desperate for dumplings or soup late at night, this place is one of few options available and so, go for it, I guess ... But, don't expect anything more than mediocre. read more

This place is so good. They pan fry nothing so a nice alternative to alot of Asian cuisine. They also do roasted pork belly which gives it a unique texture that is crunchy and soft. The people working are a pleasure to interact with and they jusylt changed their menus setup up so it's easier to read. If you haven't tried hap I'd recommend coming down. I ordered the couples meal with no shrimp. Waited for the pick up time and went to the restaurant. They hadn't started my order which was fine, I had something to read and understand that businesses are understaffed so I had a seat.to wait. One employee was eating pizza in the dining room which was weird, but I know when you work someplace the food gets boring, but maybe eating in the back? When my food came they were packing it up and then took away part of it because.it had shrimp in it and didn't replace it, but offered me another drink. I got 3 drinks already, an extra for waiting so I didn't need another one. They also gave me a 3rd cake, which was nice but there are only 2 of us. I got home and had 6 dumplings that they said were pork but tasted like peas, and a Rangoon looking thing that was pink inside and tasted like nothing. They all were so overcooked that they were not good. They also included tofu dumplings that were just soft on soft, the taste was OK but it was so off-putting in texture it grossed me out. All of it got tasted but none of it got eaten. The chicken salad rolls were warm, so I put them in the fridge, they looked good. I paid $50 for 3 teas, 3 cakes and 2 salad rolls. Bums me out because this place is close to my house and I was really looking forward to regular dumplings. read more

I ordered the following items: Tai sweet tea ($1.85 - all other restaurants are more than $3.50! ), beef neobiani, shu mai ( pork/shrimp meatballs) for dine in. For take out, I ordered another Tai tea with a foot long Vietnamese sandwich and shrimp/ pork rolls. Food was delicious and steamed/ prepared there in front of me. Everything was delicious! Dim sum is pre-packaged and not fresh. Shrimp smelled and tasted awful, and the Shu Mai was undercooked and just mush (except the rock hard shrimp on top). By far the worst dim sum I have had, and will not be returning. read more
