Wow! Delicious Cantonese style dim sum and lunch/dinner dishes. We went to celebrate my god sister's 86 years young birthday. We ordered dim-sum dishes like fried stuff taro puffs, deep fried sesame mochi stuffed with red beans, spareribs with black beans over rice noodles, steamed pork and shrimp dumplings. Dinner dishes of lobster, beef with chinese broccoli, sauté fish and onions, salted fish with chicken and tofu clay pot, fried calamari squid and onions, fried shrimp. Everything was delicious. A real feast. We also received complimentary mango and coconut pudding jello shaped like little piggies! Will definitely recommend to my friends and will revisit for dinner when i travel to portland again.

A genuine dim sum experience with a great selection of dim sum dishes. They will be pushing dim sum carts around and you will have to select from the available food dishes. The one downside to this system is that it's sometimes hard to know what each dish contains, as there aren't any labels to them. They have plenty of tables that can expand, but on a busy weekend, still expect to wait. I've gone several times now, and the carts always stop by each table at least a couple of times. My favorite dishes would be the savory fried glutinous rice dumplings and the pork spare ribs.

HK Cafe always hit the spot for my authentic cart dim sum craving! Definitely come early on the weekends because they get SUPER busy! (They open at 9:30am) The restaurant is typical banquet style open space with lots of different table arrangements. Most iconic is the round tables with the lazy susan for family style dining. They also do have 2-person and other rectangle table options as well. During peak dim sum hour, the carts are rolling through consistently and although the aunties might not be overly friendly, they are fast and efficient with your orders. I didn't take a picture of all the things we are because I was too busy chowing down but almost everything we tried was delicious! You got your classics like the egg tart, chicken feet, steamed ribs, shrimp dumplings, chicken sticky rice, steamed rice cakes, sesame balls, bbq pork buns (steamed or baked), gai lan with oyster sauce, and lots of other yummy things to try! I wasn't overly impressed with their XLB (soup dumplings) no wonder they didn't give you soup spoons for these because there was basically no soup inside! Also we got the steamed custard buns for the fun designs for the kids. But upon closer look, there was a spicy design on one of them (I censored it in my photo but you can use your imagination) so HK Cafe just FYI on that! This is the place for fresh dim sum! Take your friends and family here for the full cart experience!

Sorry, we wolfed it all down...

It was a rough week so my friends and I came here to eat our feelings. We arrived at ten am, which was the perfect time to get there before the rush. It got busy as we sat, and even the take out line was hopping. The carts came by regularly with quite a variety of dumplings, pastries, and other delights. We languished for a bit while we decided if we were really done, and the servers were super attentive and kept us supplied with tea and water as we grazed. Lots of families with small kids, which made the balloon animal guy make sense, but it was honestly a little odd. The space got loud as more people arrived, but not so loud we couldn't hear each other.

We arrived on a Saturday a little after 11am and the majority of the tables were filled. My daughters and I were seated immediately and water and tea arrived soon after. The carts started coming by regularly and we enjoyed everything. The staff were kind and helpful. We'll definitely return

Last lunch in Portland and this place was four blocks from our air bnb. Got there around 12 and I guess it was cutting it close so there were only 5 carts with dim sum options that was mid....

The food was delicious, and the staff were friendly and helpful. All dim sums we ordered were priced reasonably. Will come back if I'm in the area.

I don't do HK style dim sum much in Portland but this is the place to go IMHO. Place is clean, food decent, average service and if you can tolerate the wait I think one of the better places I. Portland for Dim Sum

Came in for lunch and it was packed! Luckily, no wait time. Received iced water and hot tea off the bat. Carts came around and we were able to pick whatever we wanted. There was one lady who seemed like she was having a bad day, she threw the lids off to the side and just threw our food onto the table. This was pretty much the worse thing that happened here. All the other ladies were nice and patient. Overall, the food itself was good and the flavors were there. Another thing my wife and I noticed was some of the food received was almost cold. At one point, we chose a dish and she picked it up and said she had to go warm it up prior to giving it to us. Once received, half was scorching hot and the other half was cold, so she definitely threw it in the microwave. Most dim sum places I've visited, the food is usually really hot. Not here. Place was clean, service was okay and food was okay.

I stopped by for dim sum and was taken to a sizable restaurant with ample seating and parking. I ordered my usual: shumai, chicken feet, and baked char siu bao. The service was prompt, with numerous food carts circulating. There wasn't much of a wait on the weekday I visited, though it did get busy around noon. Pros: fast service, delicious food. Cons: loud and noisy; the food cart servers were a bit assertive. Would I return? For the time being, yes.

Good food with dim sum cart service. It's almost best to go on a weekend morning when it's busy because that means all the food is fresh and hot. Plenty of options, both sweet and savory. Pay at the counter when finishing your meal. Oftentimes the servers are a little pushy with encouraging you to take more food from their carts. Solid food though and pretty consistent quality.

One of the best spots in Portland for authentic Cantonese and Chinese comfort food. The dishes are full of flavor and perfectly cooked -- the chow fun is silky and smoky, the pepper shrimp is crispy with just the right amount of heat, and the beef stir-fry is tender and savory. The Szechuan fish was another standout -- rich, spicy, and full of depth. The restaurant has a lively, bustling vibe, especially on weekends, and the service is quick even when it's packed. Portions are generous, making it perfect for sharing with family or friends. Highly recommend HK Café if you're craving bold, authentic flavors and a classic Portland dim sum-style dining experience!

However, we were too full to order piggy buns and we didn't see them on the rolling wagons. Thinking that it would be crowded, we arrived before opening time and saw that there were about six people waiting to get in. LOL! We were guaranteed a first round seat! Service was efficient since we sat near the kitchen - so we could see what's coming out fresh and hot! I asked if there were taro puffs (my niece's favorite) and hom sui gok (my dad's favorite). These fried items would be coming on the next wagon, but the server went and got them for us! Wow! Thanks! We got shrimp and chive dumplings and plain shrimp dumplings from this stemed items wagon. Of course, we had to have custard tarts and the cute piggy and ducky-shaped puddings! The coconut and mango flavors were subtle. We liked the coconut more, even though the ducky wiggled more! The place was full of hungry locals and tourists but was uncustomarily quiet and calm. From the hostess that seated us, to the waitress and servers, all staff and management were extremely polite, positive and helpful. We were starving. So we ordered 3 entrees and side of Dry-fried String beans. The Green Beans were cooked perfectly and the serving size was generous! One of our new favorites is the Mongolian Chicken. Is not a spicy Chinese food dish but the moist chicken and seasonings produced a yummy & comfort food level dish! As usual, the lightly battered & deveined Butterfly prepared Salt & Pepper Shrimp was mouthwatering, with every bite. As the last entree to be served. The ten Chicken & Vegetable Dumplings were fresh and flavorful. Needless to say, with only 2 patrons eating lunch with 3 heaping entrees plus Dry-fried String beans and white rice - we took home 2 more meals worth of Chinese food leftovers. The service was kind of weird/awkward about IDing us for drinks. I assured her I was happy to grab my ID and she was kind of rude, alluding to the fact I look old and she doesn't need it haha. As our food started to come, our friend noticed a long black hair in the chicken dumplings. We notified our server and she investigated the dish on our table. This rubbed us all the wrong way because you should believe your customer and take the plate from the table and maybe exam it in the back/kitchen? We didn't like the hair deter us and everything was truly delicious. We had pork soup buns (good, but not very soup-y), pork wontons in chili oil (yum!), chicken potstickers (probably my favorite), spicy chow mein (delicious), the dry fried green beans (so good)! We were stuffed. I ended up telling the server that we wouldn't need the new chicken dumplings and she was very rude and taken back by that. I feel bad to inconvenience them, but none of it would've happened if there wasn't a hair in the food? There were other small, rude things our server did but ultimately, it didn't ruin our night or take away from the delicious food! I would recommend the restaurant with the warning that the service is lackluster.

The best thing about it was the location, beautiful area right on the water and the restaurant itself was pretty. The food was fine, but nothing really stood out for me. Maybe I am spoiled living in Los Angeles where there are so many Dim Sum places and dumpling houses. The concept with this restaurant is that it is family style, so it is meant to share, which is great, but the portions I would are small for family style. The noodles are enough for one, dumplings and potstickers, I guess for a small family may be ok, but we had a large group, so we had to order 3-4 of each thing just so people could have some. Probably my favorite thing on the menu were the sweet and spicy cucumbers, although not spicy at all, which was a trend. The dishes that were supposed to be spicy were not, even when we asked for the chili oil, that somehow did not have a spice level to it that was measurable. We ordered cucumbers, noodles, potstickers, dumplings and baos all have options for fried and steamed we got some of each, fried rice, beef pancake rolls, five spice beef, spicy beef (which both tasted the same) and some other items. The best things for me were the cucumbers, the fried potstickers and the jasmine tea. They bring you the dishes as they are ready so the service is constant as they come out. Can be a little slow, but our server was nice and kept track of everything for us and made sure our drinks were full, thank you. Atmosphere - 5 Service- 4 Food - 3 If the location and atmosphere was not so amazing, probably would have given a 3 based on the food, not bad and some high points, but mostly just average IMO. Great vibes here though and would probably come back for that alone and see if it is a different experience with a smaller group or a single family. Enjoy!
