So disappointed! Ordered over $100 worth of food on Sunday and only one dish was okay. We had General Tso's chicken (okay), lemon chicken (awful, super sweet sauce that tastes like lemon curd), chicken fried rice (bland, needed salt with bits of uncooked rice throughout), chicken chowmein (slimy and flavorless) and egg flower soup (gelatinous and way too yellow). I went here for a late lunch on a Wednesday. The server was a little chilly at first (I interrupted her lunch) but warmed up slowly. The food was old school Chinese and was just ok. If you want a appetizer try the pot stickers or barbecue pork which is made fresh, tender and delicious. I placed a pickup order through their website with doordash. Walked in to pick up my order to an empty dining room and stood and waited almost 5 min before anyone came out to see me. The website said the eggrolls were minced pork and veggies ... well mine had shrimp. Glad I do not have an allergy. Also ordered the kung pao lunch special. The pork fried rice was almost flavorless less the stale taste. Same for the noodles. The kung pao chicken was the best of the lot. Still not great ... but not bad. Good mix of veggies. This is my #1 favorite Chinese food restaurant in the greater Portland/Vancouver metro area. Nothing fancy but not everything needs to be fancy. This is a solid, family run business with huge portions, delicious food and nice bartenders. They have the biggest egg rolls I've ever seen in my life! I really like their vegetable tofu, pork fried rice, vegetable lo mein & the crab puffs. I've only ever sat on the bar side of the restaurant so I'm sorry there's no pictures but if you're in the area and want Chinese, I'd strongly recommend checking this spot out! read more

First and last... We were looking for a good Chinese Food restaurant near by. We came in because of the great yelp reviews. As we were coming closer, I was already very if-y to come in. It looked very run down. Right when we came in, I noticed the old dirty floors and carpet... I really wanted to turn away and not eat here but I came with a group and we walked to the restaurant. My first reaction to the restaurant is that it definitely needs to be redone. The furniture is outdated and it seemed very gloomy. There needs to be more lighting as it is so dim. They need A LOT of cosmetic upgrades especially in the bathroom. They do however have two televisions on each side of the room. I would rate the environment about a 1 to 2. The pros about the restaurant is it's customer service. Our waiter was very attentive and enthusiastic. We had a ton of left overs and she boxed and bagged it for us. The prices are great. I would rate customer service a 5. Now to the food... the portions are HUGE! My sister and I shared a lunch special of pineapple chicken that came with egg flower soup, cream cheese wonton (2), pork fried rice and vegetable lo mein. The chicken was okay, it didn't stand out and I've had better chicken. My friends ordered a bunch of other food which I posted but did not try. We did question the chow mein as it was full of vegetables and no noodles. My meal was pretty decent especially for the price ($7.95) I would rate the food a 3.5. Overall, I would not eat here again. Personally, I need to feel comfortable in my environment. I would say if they updated everything, they would receive more business and I would consider coming back. Previous good reviews and recommendations from 2 friends prompted us to try this place. High noon and an empty restaurant.....first red flag. I ordered General Tso's Chicken and asked if they could add a bit of broccoli to it. The waitress replied "No". That's it. No. I then said I just wanted chicken and broccoli with a spicy sauce. Wasn't possible. Instead of saying they would charge extra for the broccoli or something, it was just NO. So weird. So I ordered a bowl of hot and sour soup. My husband ordered a beef and vege dish and shared a bit with me. We both agreed it was the most flavorless Chinese food we had ever eaten...not a hint of flavor! Some sesame oil, chili oil, SOMETHING would have helped. Really, really bad. My initial reaction when ordering and being rudely treated was to leave and go to House of Beijing, so sorry we didn't. The food is delicious. Me and my wife ordered take out and it did take about 20 minutes for our order to be ready but it was worth the wait. Our food was cooked fresh and was absolutely amazing. I ordered the combination dinner #10 (General Taos, pork fried rice, shrimp & an egg roll) and my wife ordered the Honey Walnut Shrimp which was served on a fresh bed of perfectly steamed broccoli and a side of steamed rice. We just found this restaurant online last week and I wrote a review. Well, I had to check and see if it was as good as the first time and since it was pretty hot out, I decided I didn't want to cook. I am definitely impressed again. Once again, I ordered walnut shrimp, and the shrimp was delicious, big juicy and a really nice amount and even the broccoli was crisp without being too crisp and not steamed and definitely not soggy at all so total thumbs up for the second time also. I had to add a second meal so I ordered their Happy Family comes with pork fried rice, barbecued pork, chicken, beef, shrimp and scallops, mixed in with a assortment of vegetables in a brown sauce. This was delicious...very tasty nothing was overly cooked and the brown sauce was not so strong that it overpowered everything and all the meat tasted like the sauce ...you could taste the beef, the shrimp, the scallops and I like this place just for the quality of the ingredients. So many places use those tiny little bay scallops, these were nice large, ocean scallops - my favorite. Another problem sometimes with restaurants is that they overcook both the shrimp and the scallop. Absolutely not here .....both times the walnut shrimp was big and juicy. The scallops here were delicious. I get a decent serving size AND not sure how they do it, but everything was piping hot as if they were delivering it to the table. We found this place during that fateful year of 2020, when the only way to get food was take out. Even takeout was hard to come by. The food is some of the best Chinese I've had. You wouldn't know the food is so good considering the area and the building itself. They have some combos and menu items that aren't the same ol', same old. The first time I came to this place I ordered a family meal which included general Taos chicken. The cooking technique used on that chicken blew my mind. The chicken was tender in the middle and it had the thinnest amount of crispy breading. The sauce however was way to sweet. But having won me over I returned to this place on many occasions. A previous reviewer described how he received a piece of pork that had been refried and served to him. I too have received that,and let me tell you it was awful. The cook also tends to put old BBQ pork in a lot of dishes. From the hot and sour soup to the pork fried rice and the happy family noodles. In any of these dishes you may get an old piece of pork and hopefully it hasn't turned yet. This is laziness on the kitchen staff. On a more positive note, the potstickers here are amazing. They are handmade and seasoned perfectly. I swear the owner should ditch half of his menu and just make a variety Chinese dumplings. Another specialty dish this place offers, and has always been executed perfectly, is the Mar Far chicken. Like I said before, the cook's technique frying chicken is near perfect. He serves his Marfar chicken with a sauce which is a combination of all Chinese sauces but it's pretty good, it's like a Chinese Chick-fil-A sauce. I finally had enough and stopped going here. This place has a $25 minimum delivery fee. In past experiences I have always been able to work with the person taking orders. For example they would let me order a half order of potstickers or crab puffs or even a half order of MarFar chicken to get me over the $25 mark. But last time I tried to order from here some lady with a thick accent would not let me get a half order of anything and she expected me to just pay unquestionably for an additional item I didn't want. Well here's a question for that lady "how happy is your boss now that he's not getting my money anymore?" I'd like to tell that lady "HEY,I don't have to eat there." This is not an easy review for me. I am somewhat biased as this place used to be my beloved neighborhood Sunday dive, and in its reincarnation as China Cook restaurant I see echoes of the old Bill's Chicken & Steak House that make me all squishy sentimental inside for fried chicken and Coors. First off - this is American Chinese. And you get LOTS of it. They load down your plate like you were going off to war tomorrow and this was the last home cooked meal you're going to see for lord knows how long. The staples are pretty run of the mill - fried things, vaguely asian sauces, a bit of veg-all in the chow mein. It's not gourmet, but for what it is it is fairly good. The service is solid - some of the new waiters are still learning, and some of the old Bill's staff is on hand to help smooth things out. The lounge is still wood paneling decorated with roosters and a 30 year old bird of paradise carpet, but the bar back has been supplemented with an additional flat screen TV for the sports fans. The main dining room looks basically as it did as an old people's restaurant, albeit with shiny new orange booth seats. For your ambient amusement, the songs of Lionel Ritchie and Richard Marx ooze gently out of hidden speakers somewhere in the barn struts holding up the knotty pine ceiling. The tables come with salt & pepper and soy sauce and surprisingly, with sesame seeds. One thing missing in the presentation is chili sauce/oil/flakes/etc - China Cook if you're listening hook your customers up with a lil' spice, please. I want to give it 4 stars, but I know in my heart it's only 3 - and that other guy who gave it the blatantly false "i've eaten Chinese food all over the world and this is the best ever" (Let me guess, you eat at malls all over the world?) 5 star review will average this out to a solid 4.
