What happened to Hank's? It used to feel so fresh when it opened seven years ago, but our recent visit was disappointing. The interior looks worn--walls marked up, bathrooms seemingly untouched since day one. When I went to the ladies' room, the vent above the toilet was covered in a thick layer of dust--utterly gross. Service was slow and inattentive; we had to flag down our server just to order, and we barely saw him after that. The food was just okay--the whipped feta was bland, the salads forgettable, and while the chicken sandwich was decent, it wasn't anything special. Drinks were hit or miss: beer was fine, but the selection was limited, and the frosé was so bad we sent it back. To top it off, our table was in direct sunlight, and the sagging shade offered no relief. It was meant to be a birthday dinner, but it fell flat. However the food is on the blander side, as each of my friends had to add more seasoning. The eggs benedict cooked fine, but lacked richness. Fortunately, as usual, you can't go wrong with potatoes and ketchup. Someone got the crispy rice bowl and couldn't even finish it, since her bowl was mainly arugula. We liked Hanks so much first time so went again today for lunch, and it was a disaster, this place lacks in consistency!! This place is kinda hit or miss. We had made reservations as it's long weekend, and got seated immediately, our host came to get order almost after 15ish mins, and he was dirty, times like this with pandemic and everything, it personally matters to me and makes me think how hygiene kitchen is. We ordered veggie burger, fried chicken, fries and sour dough toast. Fried chicken was super salty, feta cheese in Veggie burger tasted funky, like inedible funky, and it was room temperature, and the paddy itself doesn't have any flavor and it's made of brown rice I think, so with the bun, it's all carbs. the only good things were fries and sourdough toast. Waited couple of minutes to talk to our waiter, but dint see him for a bit of a time, and then finally flagged him down to get a check. Overall pretty disappointing!! read more

Reviewing the café side, the tables are covered in dirty dishes, the water pitcher has been dry the entire time I've been here for a late lunch, and the bathrooms are filthy with, it looks like, literal shit on the wall. The café barista/cashier looks bored out of her mind with nothing to do; yet, there's dirty dishes and no water (multiple employees have walked back and forth in front of the dirty tables). Hank's could be good if it was well managed, but it simply isn't a clean or well-run place. Bring some competition to this corner of Windsor Park please! read more

I went to their cafe around 9 AM on a Saturday morning, they weren't busy but were already out of matcha. I ordered their chai instead and ended up enjoying it. Overall the taste was mild with a hint of what traditional kofta tastes like. The Tzatziki was milder than typical tzatziki and needed a little more acid. We also got their hummus and pita which was delicious! They serve feta cheese and roasted cauliflower atop a generous portion hummus that is creamy, lemony and well spiced. The burger was a little bland. The patty needed salt. The bun was soft and the homemade pickles are a nice touch. The arugula side salad was very good. I especially liked the pickled onions and the dressing which had the perfect amount of dressing. The Malfalde pasta was the absolute star of the show! It is very tasty! We shared the Chantilly cake and donut holes which were great desserts. We will be back! read more

I was recommended Hank's for brunch by a colleague and it did not disappoint! It was a lovely, airy, modern place for brunch with lots of open space inside and outside, and lots of plants! We met some friends for brunch - I had the farmhouse benedict - delicious! The eggs were poached and gel-like consistency which was just perfect for me, lots of flavor in the hollandaise sauce with just the perfect, thick texture. The side potatoes were just fine, not super crispy or flavorful, but I let that slide. My husband had the pancakes - super creamy and soft, with plentiful blueberry compote on top. It turns your teeth blue, so watch out! Iced matcha was standard - not super sweet which was nice, iced mocha was pretty sweet, but still good. I really would love to visit again to try Hank's for dinner or lunch to see what else they have to offer, but I definitely will be back for brunch. read more

Worst brunch place I've ever been to. Id like to preface this review by saying the servers were great and none of this was on their part. The issues stem from the quality of the food. Blueberry Lemon Ricotta Pancakes: They really emphasized the blueberry here.. the entire pancake was COVERED in blueberries and I had enough to start my own blueberry farm. It was also hard to taste the lemon. Shakshouka: This is where the main issue was. The white part of the egg in the shakshouka was raw. Before anyone says that a sunny side up egg is supposed to raw, no the white is supposed to be cooked and not like like it does straight out of the eggshell. The sourdough bread was stale and hard to bite and chew. There was pools of oil, and the sauce-to-egg ratio was abysmal. And no feta like the menu advertised??? Unless it was in the sauce. If that's the case, it was hard to taste. Also, it literally wasn't the typical shakshouka...? The eggs were on top of the tomato sauce when the eggs were supposed to be cooked into the sauce. On another note the mug for my coffee had crusted on lipstick stains. We also were not given back 80 cents of change when we paid in cash. I guess this is what they mean when they say beauty isn't everything. This is the perfect spot if you just want cocktails and breakfast potatoes but if you're looking for decent food, I'd go somewhere else. Gorgeous interior though! read more

I have come here a ton of times it's one of my favorite breakfast places in Austin. The eggs Benedict is amazing and the potatoes that come with them are to die for , ask about their bakery pastries if you get there early enough they are always amazing. Unfortunately their service was not it today. Our waiter was incredibly nice but we were seated by one of the large curtains outside and for whatever reason it kept hitting me in the back of the head. I kindly asked one of the people that worked there to help tie it down or something to assist with this problem. This horrible man proceeded to tell me how it wasn't possible for the curtain to be even hitting me in the head. They did nothing about it and as it continued to hit me in the head the man came back and told me how it was actually impossible for it to be hitting me in the head . Finally I asked our waiter to help because he could see it in that moment hitting me over and over again. Our waiter was very helpful and nice and I'm grateful for him. The man that tried to mansplain how something wasn't possible was incredibly rude and really ruined my experience. In what world is it okay to treat a regular customer like that or any customer at all. Who would make that up? Then he had the audacity to come out of the restaurant and glare at me once I moved tables. The establishment reallly needs to do something about this man's attitude it's not acceptable. read more

Our server was so kind and friendly, giving recommendations on food and drinks, and checked on us often. Got the cheeseboard, frozen paloma, a burger and dessert. Ok so I finally bit the bullet and went to Hank's... a little too late for happy hour, but I did get the opportunity to enjoy a 1/2 price burger since it is Monday. It was tasty! And I can't wait to go back again someday to try another of the yummy sounding items on the menu. I would have given this establishment 5 stars but I didn't care for my cocktail. Been to Hanks probably a dozen times, happy hour, brunch and dinners. Always pretty satisfied with the food. I really enjoy their brunch dishes including the shrimp and grits, Benedict's, shakshuka and the lemon ricotta pancakes. The shrimp pasta was good last time i went and the bolognese was also good. Unfortunately the service has really been lacking the last few visits. It seems like maybe they're stretched thin. A quiet coffee shop with a few laptop users but still with plenty of seating. Was expecting more baked goods than muffins...disappointing. The service was lukewarm but fine. The coffee is made with local Austin roasted beans (another reason for a touristy visit), which I found incredibly light. A large coffee with three shots of espresso tasted like it was missing a shot or two. A warning would've been nice so here's my warning to fellow dark strong heavy drinkers: the coffee is light. I read the reviews when my friend asked we meet there and I was like really? But what a nice surprise, not sure why some of the recent reviews are so critical. I ordered the hummus with cauliflower and feta which was amazing! The latte was delectable and my avocado toast excellent. My friends, one had pizza which was good, and the other had a steak salad with these amazing french fries which we all shared. The only thing was that their soda machine wasn't working, I ordered a Diet Coke and it was awful. We sat at a booth indoors, they do have a cute covered patio where you can bring your dog. Next time we come we will try that and bring our dog with us! The broad choices in food and beverage make it extremely accommodating for the casual picky eater, or a foodie looking to broaden their choices.
