The wings were pretty good-a bit greasy but nicely fried and the nuggets not bad at all (nice cut of meat, large sized nuggets) but the prices are just ridiculous, particularly for the wings. There are other wing spots out there that are more bang for your buck, particularly Korean wing spots like BonChon and bb.q who aren't cheap either but just deliver a better wing and sauce. If you don't mind pretty decent wings for a higher price, give this spot a try. read more

I order chicken with taxes and everything total on the site. total was around $20, my CC alerts me their is a $25 charge.. When I get their no prices on anything, no receipts available, no itemized bill available. When I questioned the kid he said he didn't know anything.. I felt I overpaid- it was 4 tenders and fries for $16 before tip and tax. I thought the portion was pretty big, but there wasn't a half portion option to choose. Ambiance: The actual place was pretty clean, but not super welcoming. No music, only a couple of tables. Gonna have to downgrade my review, when the first Hangry Joes opened up in Ashland the prices were extremely good. It was like $8.50 for each chicken entree compared to the overly inflated prices now. Seems like the Sweet Frog owners personally find a business model that works really well when they're first opening and as they expand their franchise they just turn into generic cookie cutter establishments. The chicken feels so bland like an amateur home cook made them. There's only spice and absolutely no seasoning or flavor in the chicken anymore while they're charging like double the prices they had when they first opened. Inflation is a very real thing for businesses but I know it's not enough to force your margins to be doubled on the menu prices. Disappointing since my last few visits I never even finish the meal anymore because it feels like a chore to eat instead of actually being a good meal. read more

I loved that you were able to select which spice level you preferred (no spice, mild, medium, hot, very hot). I absolutely love spicy food and have a high tolerance, but noticed that if you selected hot or very hot that you were not able to receive a swap or refund. I opted for hot. I took a seat and looked around. The space is very open. The tables were tidy. Plenty of customers were in and out during my time there. Nothing special to note regarding decor, but I did enjoy the simplicity. My order was brought to me in no time. I was ecstatic because as I waited, I browsed reviews and photos - definitely hoping my sandwich would be a replica of this massive sandwich I looked up and saw. Yes. Absolute yes. Impromptu stop for dinner. I hadn't eaten since 11am and this meal hit the spot. The cashier was helpful as she answered our questions about the wing flavors and the differences between the sandwiches. I had the Chicken Sando mild combo and it was delicious! The chicken was cooked perfectly and it is absolutely filling; the slaw and the pickles gave it a nice touch. My boyfriend hates pickles on his sandwiches and ordered his on the side but he even ate the sandwich with all the toppings and gave it a 10/10. I loved the fries, they were fresh and seasoned well. My boyfriend had the honey butter but we didn't realize it'd be like a powder and be on his fries so his fries were sweeter. We also ordered chicken wings and I picked no seasoning and spicy soy garlic for my sauce options. I was confused at first why half weren't sauced but the sauce was on the side and I think it was because I selected the no seasoning. But nonetheless the wings were fried perfectly and I love my wings fried hard and didn't even have to ask; they were also flavorful. When I was looking this place up before going....I wasn't sure what I was getting into. A lot of reviews seemed kind of split. Arriving here...I see why. When it comes to the atmosphere, it's clean and well running. However, service is on the slow side. However...the chicken. I am always on the hunt for Nashville style hot chicken and am rarely able to find it outside of Nashville. But Hangry Joe's delivers. Their spices are on point. The portions are very large. From Nashville Hot Chicken style sandwiches to milk tea, they cover a slew of taste options. I ordered a Chicken Sando with fries. And the fries? They're waffle fries and come with a yummy sauce that has a slight spice to it that I can't quite put my finger on, flavor wise. The chicken on the sando was huge and seasoned heavily. A bit salty where the seasoning was heavier but spicyyyy. I ordered Medium spice and my eyes watered. I had tears BUT only on the portion of the chicken that extended the bun. I was super excited to see a new restaurant around the corner from my house. This place has a wide range of spice levels but you can also get no spice too. I ordered the chicken sandwich - mild. First of all it was huge, I mean it was hanging off the bread, and... there was nothing mild about it. It's so spicy, so I can only imagine how hot the higher levels are. I must say the chicken was cooked juicy and delicious. It had cole slaw on it and the waffle fries were hot and tasty too. The only thing that wasn't good was the lemonade. I decided on the chicken sandwich combo. The fries were crunchy and perfect seasoned. The chicken on the sandwich was massive and was spilling out on both sides of the bun. The chicken was perfectly fried, crispy and flavorful. You have the option to select your sandwich with pickles, coleslaw and sauce. The sauce is mayo based and so yummy. This place is awful. If I could give zero stars I would. We ordered a Diet Coke, a lychee tea, and an order of fries. It took five minutes to get the Diet Coke. It took 20 minutes to get the tea and after 25 minutes we told them to forget the fries and we left. There was another gentleman there who was still waiting for his meal after 40 minutes. I have been craving soy garlic chicken ever since Bon-Chon closed near here. I was so excited that they offer something just as good in nugget form! I'm pretty selective with my praise on a first trip to a restaurant. Hangry Joe's is easily one of the top two hot wings I've had in Richmond in 28 Year here. I was concerned about how long my order was taking but it was well worth the wait. I ordered 12 Angry Hot wings and a large fries. Big cooked to order wings crispy outside, juicy inside. 6 would make a meal. Angry Hot is a glorious burn without over powering the chicken. My wife got the Sando Hot which is Nashville Hot and was equally impressed. Without a doubt Hangry Joe's is on our rotation! Why not a 5? Two things 1) It's a little hard to get into. They took over the old Sugar Shack location at the corner of Parham and Eastridge with no access on Eastridge. 2) This is the same Co. I walked out of and never returned to when it opened in Ashland for forcing Customers to order on Kiosks and having staff that gave 0 #$%+s about customers. That was what, 2021?
