With all the recent "who has the best chicken sandwich" fiasco going on, somehow we ended up at Zaxby's. I tried Zaxby's when they first came to Richmond but it made no impression on me whatsoever. So, we ended up here like 3 times in a week. The Zaxby's Club Sandwich has to be the best fast food chicken sandwiches I have ever had. Now I love me some Chic Fil A , this is just different. And Zaxby's has some great and unexpected appetizers, including their buffalo dip and tater chips, oh my that is a fast food game changer. We tried the fried white cheddar bites (yum), and they also have fried mushrooms, and onion rings. I did have an opportunity to try a Zaxby's salad, I wasn't a fan. I tried a cobb salad and the egg was inedible and overall I was missing Chic fil a cobb salad while eating it. I will say Zaxby's was a bigger and less expensive salad compared to Chic fil a, but it just didn't do it for me. Other items the gang tried and loved: the traditional wings. The boneless wings were essentially chicken nuggets. But, there are bunches of sauces and dips to choose from. Options are good. We have also had great service here. While Chic fil a does a great job, often they frustrate me when dining in and wanting a drink refill. No worries here, they have the Coca-Cola Freestyle! Winner winner chicken dinner. This Zaxby's location has made me a believer. I have yet to try Popeye's but the Zaxby's chicken club is now my go-to for that chicken sandwich itch that must be scratched. read more

Had a grilled chicken salad for lunch today. What caught my eye was the fact that the nutrition specs weren't too bad (I checked online first) and the salad came with french fried onions. I loooove french fried onions. I have been to other Zaxby's locations before and it's always been just ok. Nothing to write home about, really. My experience was the same today. I enjoyed my salad, but nothing about it was over the top delicious. I appreciated that the chicken was nice and juicy, the fried onions provided some crunch, and the tomatoes tasted fresh. Will never go to this location again. The lady taking the order in the drive thru was extremely rude for no reason, claimed they didn't make a certain item that was clearly on their menu, and completely left off one of my combo orders and replaced it with a large drink. When I got to the drive thru window, I was told to wait by the side door for my order, and I asked for my receipt there because I felt like my total didn't match my order, which it didn't. I told them that my order was messed up, and the person took my receipt. I had to wait several minutes in a drive thru rush for my order. When my food finally came out, it still hadn't been fixed, so I asked for a refund. I had to fight through the drive thru traffic to park to get the refund. Apparently the rude lady who took my order was one of the managers or supervisors, and she asked me why I needed a refund. When I told her my order was messed up, she rudely responded that they were short staffed. I responded that I understood, but that is not an excuse for her extreme and unprovoked rudeness. I finally decided to give Zaxbys a try. I'd been driving past the long lines for a week and caught it at just the right time. I was super curious and optimistic they would be great since so many people are willing to wait in a line wrapped around the parking lot. The menu was a little overwhelming since I had no idea what was good and I chose a chicken finger plate. This included like 6 chicken fingers, fries, sauce on the side and a piece of bread. I was surprised and sad to discover the chicken was just "okay" it didnt live up to the hype for me. It was unseasoned, and the fried were blah too. The tastiest thing on the plate was the buttered bread. How can this be??? Yesterday they were 10 cars deep waiting.. My other complaint is cost. My meal was like $9 with no drink included. An overall dreadful place that attempts to masquerade as a higher end chicken shop. The price does not match the quality of food or service. After two attempts I have yet to discover what makes this place worthy of anyone's time or money. The first time my order was incorrect and I was told I would have to pay for a new meal if I wanted the correct order, going so far as to accuse me of trying to get free food while ignoring that I hadn't touched the previous tray from where it was placed by one of the staff. I tried to give it a second shot, though what I experienced was disappointing. With an empty drive thru and scarce dining crowd the counter was vacant. After waiting around 10 minutes an employee came from outside the location, I placed my order and was told my fries would have to be cooked so it may take longer than normal to which I was willing to wait. Nearly 30 minutes later I ask if everything is alright to which the response was now that my wings needed to also be cooked fresh. When my order number is finally called after another 20 minutes I am greeted to food that wasn't hot, wasn't warm, wasn't even room temperature, but cold as if sitting on a shelf for an extended time. When asked why this was the case the response was the repeated "we had to cook it first". In short, $8, one hour, and poor service are not worth cold chicken. read more

Today, I experienced Zaxby's for the first time ever, and I had a good experience. I went around noon and had to do a double take to make sure this place was open because there was hardly anyone there. Some people take this as a sign to keep going but I took advantage of it and went through the drive thru. I just ordered the regular salad with the fried chicken and found it to be delicious. The fried onions were everything and my salad had quite a bit of fried chicken on top - way more than I am given at Chick-Fil-A. Everything in the salad was fresh and the lettuce was crisp. My mom and I went here for dinner to try it out because we have never been here before. It did not disappoint at all. I ordered their five chicken tenders meal which came with sides of fries, coleslaw, and a slice of Texas toast. I really do not like coleslaw so I substituted it for extra fries. They also have a Coca-Cola Freestyle machine which I love because I always get Cherry Coke from those machines. The chicken tenders were incredible. They were extremely crispy but not overdone. The meat was very juicy and flavorful. The fries were seasoned to perfection. The Texas toast was good and tasted like it was lightly buttered. What made the chicken even better was their zax sauce. I don't know what they put in it, but it made the chicken even better. I forgot to ask for barbecue sauce instead for my chicken, but I am glad I did. I will ask for barbecue sauce next time to see which sauce I prefer. It may be a little bit of a drive from where I live, but I will definitely be coming back. read more

Decided to try this new place out. Lot's of activity on my arrival, busy time. First thing I noticed was the volume. Loud place. May not bother you, but if you are looking for atmosphere, this place is not it. Lady was nice at the order line. Wait was tolerable for the order. Then the food came out. Chicken salad sandwich. Lettuce was white crusty end. Quantity of salad was minimal at best. Looked like they spread it with a knife, but just over half of the bread. Looked nothing like the picture on the menu board. Thin line of salad that covered half. The only taste was that of grilled butter over the toast, and mayonnaise. Kind of a minor league Chick fil a. Co-worker said, take it back...I said, nope. I will just remember for future dining decisions. Reminds me of a chicken based McDonalds, but worse. Would have received better food at the little league concession stand. A hot box does not equal fresh food. To make matters worse, I could hear the manager slam the cash drawer because she did not want to issue the refund and when I refused a lot of loose change instead of the $10 bill I previously provided, she made me (the inconvenienced customer) wait longer.
