Sunday after the Mariners game, I was walking back to my car acting like a tourist taking in my surroundings. Well, Hangry Joes. 1st Avenue South, Seattle, WA 98134, caught my eye. The facility offers 3 self-ordering stations, in addition to counter service. This place is definitely capable of handling a large crowd if needed. The ordering process is certainly a seamless process, if you're not familiars with the offerings, there's several menu board to peruse. The service is expeditious, friendly enough for an in and out to go experience. There is a single, well-maintained bathroom in the establishment, which i found to be a plus, as it shows to me at least that the care about the customer experience. So, I ordered the # 3 combo, Chicken Bap with Waffle Fries, plus a med drink. Also ordered a side of Cole slaw. The combo was $16.95, and the slaw was $3.95. As for the flavor and quality of the food, let's start with the waffle fries, I'd have to give a pass on them, they were rather mid, as in not creamy on the interior, nor crispy on the exterior. The Cole slaw, for me was mildly sweet, yet overpowered by a savory aspect, it was not creamy or refreshing. I'm not a fan of KFC, but they do have a refreshing, sweeter, crisper Cole slaw that it to die for, but not enough that I'd go out of my way to purchase. The chicken bap with the Spicy Soy Garlic Sauce, over rice was pretty good, but familiar to other dishes of its kind. I'd have to try other options to say if I'd go back for another go round. Some of the items I was interested in were a bit spending for what I thought it would be, ie the chicken wings. Overall, it was something to try and I did enjoy the Chicken Bap combo.

We were so excited when this location opened! Having loved the Hangry Joe's in Kirkland, we couldn't wait to check out the new spot. We came around 8:40 PM on a Friday. Although they mentioned they were closing at 9 PM, they still kindly took our orders, which we really appreciated. I got the Messy Chicken Sando combo and thoroughly enjoyed it! The restaurant was spacious--larger than the Kirkland location. At exactly 9 PM, the staff came out and let everyone know it was closing time and we needed to leave. We weren't quite finished with our meals, but we packed up the rest to go (all meals were served in to-go boxes anyway). This location had several SODO-exclusive specials, which I might try next time. There was plenty of street parking available on the side and in the back.

Okay fried chicken, and indeed spicy! Waffle fries could be better but it could be due to the reason of delivery

I saw this place on social media and was moderately intrigued. It wasn't what I expected. You walk in and are immediately greeted with 3 kiosks, 2 of which is for Hangry Joe's and 1 for poké. They also serve boba. It's like 3 shops in 1. Not sure if it's different businesses that decided to rent out one place together or if they're truly 1 business. For the chicken portion of the shop, it was decorated in cartoon chickens that I thought were funny. We ordered a combo which came with waffle fries and drink, a regular hot chicken sandwich, and a passion fruit tea. Fries were good, not very hot coming out but crispy. Chicken was ok. Not crispy, with a thin batter. Very hot. I got mine with the Smokey bbq sauce and I thought it was gonna be dunked in sauce but it was just sorta drizzled on, so I do wish I got more of that flavor. I saw someone else say they wish they got slaw on the side, so I did that, and I'm glad I did and encourage others to do so. My bf got it with slaw in and I saw it was quite drippy. It was an interesting place overall. Biggest critique is I wish the chicken was crispier. I think honestly they didn't fry my chicken long enough. It was cooked to be safe to eat but not long enough for the texture to be palatable (not sure if that makes sense but if you cook chicken breast I'm sure you get what I mean!)

Sometimes just the kid and I go out. He wanted spicey chicken... ...and that's how we found Hangry Joe's. The menu is perfect...they are in the spicey chicken business and that's what you can get! My son, who never wanted anything spicey until recently, got the hot chicken sandwich combo...it is hot! He loved it. I went for the medium. The chicken was perfectly cooked with just enough heat. What a great sandwich! The waffle fries were delicious. We also got the wings with just the medium dry rub. Very good, crispy and juice with some good heat.

Not bad, but also not the most amazing thing I've had - I think chicken sandwiches might just not be for me. I got the combo and mac and cheese side - the sandwich itself is a huge portion which is a plus. I learned the hard way I should've ordered with the Cole slaw on the side because it takes a long time to get through half the chicken before you get to the actual sandwich, and by then it's a soggy mess. Fries were actually pretty good! Mac and cheese was disappointing, basically tasted like the microwaved stuff you can get at the grocery store. Not super busy on Saturday for lunch, so everything was fast, and service was friendly. Random note but the bathroom sink water was scalding hot

I writing this as a warning...... I came here at here at night with my friend.... Worst mistake of my life. First off the location is G H E T T O! The food is cold, salty, and gave me the SH!TS. But the bubble tea is very bomb.com. Would try again. Just the bubble tea tho. Well. Yes. Thank you reading this. And most definitely think twice before trying this place. Bye Ps. Don't mind the picture I was hangry.

Finally! Hangry Joe's Hot Chicken has been on my local must try restaurants for a bit now and yesterday, I went! The location is easy to find as it's across the street from Starbucks HQ and the Amazon place. There is automated ordering similar to Shake Shack with kiosks at the entry area. The location doubles with SoDo Poke sharing the inside space. The inside is large and pleasantly decorated with bright and busy murals and menus on the walls. We each had a Chicken Sando combo that came with a canned soda and waffle fries and a couple of containers of their Yum Yum sauce (sorta like fry sauce). You can order the chicken sandwich with varying levels of hotness. I chose medium and my son chose hot. We each agreed that the spice level of hotness was less than expected. In other words, they weren't too hot. That being said, we loved our sandwiches! The sandwich chicken piece was very large and stuck out about 3 inches from the bun and the waffle fries were crispy and cooked right. The sandos come with pickles, cider slaw and the sauce and when ordering you can have some of those items on the side. I like their customization options. They also offer a variety of sides with customization options. Overall, this place is pretty tasty and worth a try when down in the SoDo area. I would return here in the future.

Chicken fingers

Hangry Joe's Hot Chicken feels like one of the place that survive off its captive audience (being across the street from Starbucks HQ) I cam craving some hot chicken but got the saddest chicken fingers I have ever witnessed in real life. Even wilder is that they sell poke, though they really, really shouldn't. It feels like an afterthought probably because it is, and they don't have the toppings to make it really work. Unless you're working at Starbucks and are really hungry for lunch I would really reconsider.

Chicken Sando - 8/10 not brined and on the dry side - though the sauce saves it.
Julian G.

TLDR: The chicken sandwich tastes as good as they look. Don't be intimidated by the "hot" if you're not a hot chicken person, theres something here for you. If you're in the area and thinking about this place - just do it a must try! The Food: Chicken Sando: The attention to detail they put in the sandwich is amazing. It looks amazing and taste amazing. They even give you an extra sauce container in the box - Yes they use a box and dont wrap the sandwich so it gets all steamy and soggy. - THANK YOU!!!! Fries: Crispy, perfectly seasoned - you'll b happy with them. Service and Atmosphere: - The level of effort they put here should be studied and copied by every restaurant of this tier. - The staff was HUSTLING! They were also extremely attentive and friendly. What can be better?: - Milk Drunk is the gold standard for the area. And this place, while different, isn't as good because the chicken (the one I had) was dry (see pic). They're also in competition with Paseos which is a god tier sandwich in itself. I think if they brined their sandwich and or used chicken thighs they be in this league.. - I want to try their wings, but there damn near double the price of milk drunk (the best wings in seattle imho!) and paseos.. I understand their prices are their prices.. but that barrier to entry is a non-starter.

Such a delicious juicy chicken sando! I ordered the combo so also got fries and a drink, the fries were standard but the sauce that came with the fries was yummy. I wish the drink options were more varied (options are Coke/Sprite/water) and included lemonade or something but obviously not a big deal. As for the chicken sandwich itself, the chicken was crispy and juicy and the bread was perfect to my liking. Bread of my dreams. This spot shares a seating area with another restaurant, but has plenty of seating to go around. I'd come back to try their other items or get another chicken sando!

The restaurant itself leaves a lot to be desired, but I'm not asking too much. I believe the owner said he was trying to revamp the place. I hope that the area comes alive in the future years, that should help. Here's the issue though, this is the slowest spot ever. I've waited 30 minutes for fries - FRIES. I don't mind waiting for food, but it should remain reasonable. There were only two or three people working, and one man did tell us this, but I need to be honest - this was on Super Bowl Sunday. No one was able to get anyone a beer from the tap for 40 minutes, the food took forever and it appeared that online orders were being prioritized (which makes sense, you make as you get orders coming in, but that puts your in person customers in an odd and sometimes frustrating position). To be honest, I probably wouldn't have minded as much if I just had some fries to snack on. I didn't mind as much this one time because I was just happy to find a place to watch the Super Bowl Half Time show, but other days, it's a little hard to look past. I wish this business the best, I live too close to not hope for its improvement! Looking forward to updating my review. At the end of the day, if you're hungry, it's late, this is your spot.

He said, "No, you got the sandwich." I said, "Okay... so did you make the sandwich I ordered or not?" He said yes. I open it up and it's literally two chicken fingers, fries, and honey mustard. No Philly cheesesteak. So I asked, "If you didn't have Philly cheesesteak, why didn't you tell me that when I ordered it?" He said, "I don't know, I can put it on the side if you'd like." I said, "I thought you didn't have any Philly cheesesteak?" He walked away, came back with a side of Philly cheesesteak, and told me to put it on the sandwich myself. For $19, I shouldn't have to assemble my own sandwich -- especially after being told you didn't even have the main ingredient. Just be upfront with customers.

All the…read moreoutdoor tables were full when we arrived at 6, so we put our name on the list for inside and waited about 30 minutes. The oysters were the main draw for me, and they were totally worth the visit. Old Stove serves them with a savory watermelon sauce in addition to a traditional cocktail sauce--eaten together, it's a flavor explosion that I can't quite describe. We also enjoyed the garlic everything fries, which were delicious! We just had to try a flight to sample the brews. There are some really good beers available here, especially the Belgian blonde, citra pale ale, and the stout. I did not really care for the seasonal sour (grapefruit, I think)--to me, it just tasted like a sour and nothing more, but someone with more interest in sour beers would probably enjoy it just fine. Despite the busy night, our server checked on us regularly and was very personable, stopping to chat with us about the local sports scene. There's plenty to look at, inside and out. If you can snag a seat outside, you'll get to enjoy the waterfront. Inside, the decor is industrial but fun. Not sure if this runs all the time, but when we were there, the tvs were playing vintage beer ads, which was quite fun. They also sell some pretty good t-shirt designs. Overall, Old Stove Brewing is the perfect combo of good location, good food, and good beer. Definitely recommend a visit when in the Pike Place area!

They gave us these post cards to write down our individual drinks. FYI - this place requires using your smart phone to scan a QR code for the menu. We ordered 2 apps (salmon dip with pita chips & chips and cheese dip) I ordered fish and chips. Buddy got the meat loaf. Our beer showed up quick. Waiter always checked on us often. Our apps showed up and they were both delicious. Then 5 minutes later our main dish orders showed up. Wasn't too happy with that because we wasted time to taste our beers and snack on the apps. They need to work on their timing. Need at least 10 minutes in between the beer and apps. The food overall is admittedly top notch. Fish and chips FRESH! The fish was juicy and the fried crust was perfection. Pieces were large. They will ask if you want 3 or 4. 3 is enough. If they can work on timing the drinks and food this place would be a 5 out 5, but will deduct a star because of that. The overall vibe of the place was nice. Huge layout with wooden picnic style tables. Outdoor tables if you're lucky to get one. Large tanks to brew beer surrounding the room and a merch table.

I didn't expect much out of these, but they were surprisingly good. The rice is cooked perfectly, sticky and tender, yet each grain is distinctive and almost bouncy, giving great mouthfeel. The musubi seems to be dipped in a small amount of soy sauce, although not enough to cover the entire rice surface. The additional sodium isn't really needed in the first place due to the salty and meaty kick the spam on top gives the handheld snack. It's a classic combination for a good reason! (4/5) For the Food Walk special, they only give a small scoop of mac salad. I'm sure the normal side portion for $5.94 is much larger. The salad is unspectacular but solid. It's a little sweet, a bit peppery, and certainly very creamy. There's a bit of julienned carrot included that isn't particularly crunchy, being soaked in the mayo sauce. The macaroni itself isn't mushy or overcooked, so it still has some texture. (4/5) I don't usually expect much out of food court restaurants, but Aloha Plates definitely surprised me with their quality. It seems like a solid option for Hawaiian.

Perhaps the Lao Burger served there wasn't as juicy and succulent, with perfectly crisp smashed patties as I recalled? Or perhaps Taurus Ox just serves a completely inferior version. I revisited for a Friday late dinner to reach the bottom of things. This was at around 8PM and the place was surprisingly busy, with a fully running kitchen and almost all seats taken. It's a pretty small restaurant to begin with, but since the food comes fast, people don't typically stay too long. By the time our food arrived, a table had cleared up for us. Lao Burger ($18) - This Lao Burger is just as good as my first visit. Absolutely perfectly fried smash patties, completely with lacy, crispy edges that provide texture and an intense caramelized meaty flavor. I've already described the burger in detail in my previous review - what I can say on this visit is that the burger is basically identical, indicating that Ox Burger is consistent with cook and construction. The burger as a whole has the perfect moisture level with plenty of unique funky, umami-full flavors that make each bite a delight. As with my previous review, two things come to mind that detract just a tiny bit from my full enjoyment. Firstly, the burger as a whole is a bit salty for my tastes, necessitating several trips to refill my cup of water Secondly, the piece of sliced pork belly included is kind of vestigial. It seems to be only there to add additional salt, because neither the flavor nor texture are very apparent while eating. (5/5) Deluxe ($15) - This burger is somehow way messier than the Lao to eat. Upon lifting it up, a mess of watery mustard/mayo mix drips onto the plate. I think it might be from the extra moisture in the tomatoes and lettuce. And yet, somehow the bun isn't soggy at all. This burger is otherwise excellent, combing the same picture perfect smash patties as in the Lao, with the classic fixings - American cheese, bacon, pickles, and plenty of veggie mix. (5/5) I'm glad I gave the Lao Burger another chance. It's now one of my favorite burgers in the city. I'll definitely be coming back to Ox Burger for more. The food was great for all adults involved. Portions of fries are generous and delicious, and come with fancy sauces (none of which appealed to me, but were appreciated by my family). The burgers are really inventive, so we all wanted to try the Lao. It's delicious. I did balk at $18 for just the burger, which is a smash patty (less beef) and I took the cheese, Mayo, and cilantro off. Eighteen dollars! No side, no drink.
