Came here recently not so much for the food, especially being it was my first time here but more so to conduct an interview for a project I was doing for class. Very nice staff. Had ordered bubble team for the first time (in which I was using the wrong straw at first to drink it in.) Also order a summer roll, which looked very out of the ordinary for me compared to other Asian rolls that I have tried. I opened the roll being that I wasn't used to how they make theirs and ate that wrong as well until I was taught that I am suppose to eat the roll as it is made (foolish me.) Despite not being a fan of peanut butter at all, it tasted okay with the peanut sauce that it came with. Overall the experience was good. May not be a regular spot for me but I do recommend for those that enjoy Vietnamese food and a nice quiet, seating spot to do work and eat something light, either alone or with a friend. read more

I'm almost convinced its impossible to have a bad day when you have hanco's for lunch. Coworkers and I were redecorating a cafe in Brooklyn. Someone mentioned ordering through the Seamless app and I jumped at the opportunity to order here. Not only because they have a nice variety of food, but also for the quality bubble tea (both milk and dairy free). Everyone seemed satisfied with my recommendation especially because they have vegetarian options, such as Protien-Sub chicken and beef. I enjoyed my pho noodles with grilled chicken. My bubble tea choice was mango with green tea jelly. I love that my green tea jelly looked like kryptonite. Super effective with the comic fans in the group. I wouldn't come here for the pho though cause they're kinda small and don't have as much ingredient varieties as the other Vietnamese restaurants in the NYC Chinatowns. But back to the sandwiches, I like that they actually use big juicy pieces of pork in the pork sandwiches. I've had banh mi sandwiches from other places that use dry ground up hard pieces of pork in the sandwiches which is not for me. Get a stamp card. If you buy 9 sandwich/pho you get one free. I was stuck in the neighborhood for jury duty! yes I was fulfilling my civic duty and trying to find a healthy and inexpensive meal nearby besides Panera or chipotle. I yelped local restaurants and winner winner, chicken dinner, hanco was an ideal spot for lunch! as soon as you enter you are hot with the sweetness and aroma of the bubble teas. I came for a banh mi and was impressed with the classic. they make them to your preference so I had mine mild with no cilantro. they also served pho and rice dishes although I didn't see anyone eating the rice dishes. overall, I'd definitely come back and would recommend it to all brooklynites fulfilling their juror summons. Below average pho. Came here on Labor Day, 8 pm on a Monday. Had the beef pho which costs $10.75 per bowl. I also took a combo banh mi (which costs $8.25) to-go, but haven't tried that yet. The pho wasn't very hot when it came out and some of the meat was unchewable. The broth was very watery and not flavorful. For that kind of quality, the price should be lower. Otherwise, I don't see how they keep business. Service is a bit strange. You have to pick up your food at the counter in the back when they call your number. Thus, there isn't really any service. I shouldn't have given a tip, since it made the overpriced food worse than it already is. Don't recommend anyone come here unless you're getting tea or something. read more

Came here after my Pilates class for the originally bubble tea, and I was unimpressed. I had the milk tea unsweetened, and it was just average. The tapioca was stale and tasted like they have been sitting there for too long. Perfect Vietnamese sandwich shop. It is cheap and quick. My favorite thing to get is either the grill chicken or pork sandwich. They both come with vinegary carrots, cucumber and cilantro. And if you get it medium spicy they have this delicious shiracha mayo. I definitely suggest trying their sandwiches (~$7 each). I haven't had their pho but it looks pretty authentic from what I've seen. I also like to get their almond bubble tea with almond milk. This is the only bubble tea place I know that makes boba with soy/almond milk if asked. Definitely stop by here for some cheap eats! read more

Unfortunately this is the best Bahn Mi I have found in my area otherwise I would definitely stop going here. I don't think they care at all if you ever come back because they look quite angry with you when you order and pick up your food. Service here is terrible! I have even tried to get eye contact and say goodbye when I leave but they just ignore you even when they are not doing anything. When running a restaurant, the most important people are your customers. Treat them with disrespect and they will stop going there. I know this contradicts my above paragraph but honestly, I would eat here way more often if I felt appreciated. Other people feel the same way and this is reflected in their overall rating dropping consistently with an average of 2.5 over the last 5 months. As much as I like some of the food, I'm going to stick to deliveries or maybe weekend visits from now on. Hanco's has a needlessly complicated system for ordering and picking up your food and makes no attempt to explain it. When it gets crowded, as any takeout spot in this location would on a work day, the result verges on chaos. There's no clear place to line up and order, so people are pooling around the front. After you pay, you're supposed to take your receipt to a counter all the way in the back, down a few steps, near the bathroom. You're somehow supposed to know this before you get here; some people don't, so there's a second crowd of people milling around the counter. Also, if you order bubble tea, you pick it up at a different spot. Unfortunately, there's not really a place to position yourself so you are able to hear the two different ladies screaming out order numbers. This means another group of people is nervously pacing back and forth between the two stations. The last time I was there, my pho was ready before my bubble tea was. I picked up the soup, then had to find a place to set it down, getting cold while I waited for the drink. I guess I could have just let it wait at the counter, but these ladies are yelling at you; it's a stressful scene. The banh mi is good--in my experience, it's good everywhere it's served. The pho is rather thin and not flavorful; there's a big bottle of sriracha on every table for a reason. The bubble tea selection seems pretty wide. Most of Hanco's business seems to come from people on lunch break, but an hour here might be more hectic than one at the office. read more

This place was very disappointing. I ordered their beef pho to-go and when I got home I noticed globs of fat and cartilage in my soup, I was so disgusted that I could not eat it any more. I called the restaurant and let them know and they told me to come back with the soup and they would give me a refund. I live a half a mile away so I bought back the fat and cartilage that I found in my soup and they were instantly dismissive and told me that it was tendons and that they always leave tendons in their soup. No where on their menu did it mention anything about tendons in their beef pho and I've had beef pho several times and never had tendons in my soup. Also, when I told the girl behind the counter that they should tell people about the tendons in the soup she rolled her eyes at me. I truly think that you can get better quality meat from the dollar menu at a fast food place. I give Hanco's a middle-of-the-road score. It's good, it's different, but it's just sloppy and it's not top-notch Viet food. I got a spicy banh mi (here it's just called "Vietnamese sandwich"), two rice paper rolls, and a passion fruit flavored bubble tea. The banh mi was made with good ingredients, fresh bread, nice pickled slaw, etc. But the jalapeños were thrown on so sloppily that most bites were not spicy at all, while some bites were INCREDIBLY spicy. Overall, pretty good though. The rice paper rolls were a huge disappointment. They were literally 3 ingredients: shrimp, lettuce, and vermicelli. No bean sprouts, no cilantro, no mint, no matchstick carrots or cucumber.... not authentic, and not very flavorful. And at $5, they were overpriced too. The tea was very sweet, but refreshing and cold. I liked it. The cashier who took my order was rude and yell-y. I didn't let that affect my score though. Come here if you're really craving Vietnamese but there's nowhere else to go. Any hole-in-the-wall Pho restaurant would do a better job, and without all the unnecessary "hipster Brooklyn" decor. read more

Decided to try this Hanco's, wasn't happy with the "B" rating but I tried it anyway. I ordered the shrimp noodle soup( pho) which was delicious and filling..The place has a seating area( a few tables). Staff was polite. This location has a jar of candy on the counter which I thought was complimentary, however, after I ate and asked the lady, she pointed out to me the candy was .25$ a piece which was clearly marked on the bottle.I couldn't resist and spent a dollar on 4 candies.. What I got: Grilled Pork Banh Mi (Vietnamese Sandwich) I normally go to the Hanco's located in Park Slope, but today I went to this location because I had plans to visit Dumbo afterwards. I didn't expect any less from a different location and I was right. My sandwich was delicious. They didn't skimp me on the pickled carrots and daikon or the pork. The baguette is always crispy, the veggies are always cold, and the protein is always hot. As I'm reflecting on my experience, my mouth is watering and I want another one. Terrible pho. I have yet to find a good pho place in New York. Please holler at me if you know of a decent place? I've tried Chinatown and West Village and Brooklyn Heights. Why was it terrible? The flavor was bland. They didn't even have the abundance of spices and sauces necessary for pho. There wasn't a lot of beef, and the beef they did have was not tender at all. Also, barely there sprouts and veggies on a paper plate. I was extremely disappointed! Have yet to try their bubble tea -- but I doubt it is as good as Tea Time at Chinatown. Sometimes I'm one of those people that goes to the same place and orders the exact same thing every time. I know! Boring! or is it Brilliant!!? It's Bahn mi! And since, I'm a pescatarian I love having the option of doing the faux chicken. Not that it taste like chicken but it taste heartier than just tofu. And I love having the mixture of fresh cilantro, cucumber, julienne carrots and daikon radishes. I have also been experimenting with spiciness! I'm pretty happy with the medium so far and maybe some day I will go that extra level. This meal also only cost me seven bones. And I never feel like it's weighing me down after I am done. I will also mention that I am very pleased with their bread choice. There's a great bread to ingredient ratio. And I love that Hanco's has a stamp card! It makes me happy to come in and have my meal on the house. I do wish I could try the pho but it is made with a beef broth. Perhas someday I will venture to the other items. .....but most likely not. If you see me here...I will most likely be eating a "Vegetarian Chicken Bahn Mi" with medium spicy. Yum! Also, there's always wifi! I got the 'Classic' Vietnamese sandwhich and Thai Milk Tea w/ bubbles. When I ordered, I was asked if I wanted Spicy or not. I had non-spicy. Total was roughly around $12 (!?!!!) Sandwhich was OK. -There were too many carrots/radish - I didn't like the texture of having so much ground beef in my sandwhich ( a little odd ) - Couldn't taste any of the pate - Thai Tea was a little too strong for my liking ( the strong kind that gives you that headache, yanamean?) - Boba pearls were ok, like somebody else had stated somewhere below, it could've been a little sweeter and softer. For whatever reason, I had no interest in checking out Hanco's. Everyone told me how delicious it was, but I just didn't do it. Now I have, and I can't stop going! I think I have been four times, always choosing the classic sandwich- spicy. I feel relatively healthy and it's very flavorful. Great price, also, at $6. My boyfriend recently introduced me to Hanco's because he knows I love Vietnamese food and He works on Montague Street. He said their Vietnamese sandwiches are good, but don't get the salad. Their prices are a bit expensive for the small location that it is because if you compare it to Banh Mi Saigon; Banh Mi Saigon is a better investment. However, I do love Hanco's. It's getting a bit obsessive because I have been at Hanco's, three times this week. Any way, the first time I went I tried their grilled chicken with rice vermicelli. It was served in a plastic to-go box which I wasn't too happy about, but it was tasty. Their bubble tea taste really great and the three bubble teas I've had this week tasted authentic and fruity, nothing powdery! I've had a strawberry, Thai iced tea, and peach. Today was my second time going for a self-indulging lunch. It's been a long while since I had a Banh Mi so I decided to try one. I was a little unhappy that they didn't have the meatballs so I decided to get grilled pork. The Banh Mi was really top-notch. They didn't over stuff it like at Banh Mi Saigon. The sandwich was absolutely yummy. It's probably one of my favorite sandwiches. Hanco's is a great place to come for a mid-afternoon beverage and food. It's an Asian version of Starbucks almost. They've got comfortable music and an interesting, cafe like ambiance. I am quite surprised that they don't have pastries or the mung bean dessert that's carried in a few Vietnamese shops in Chinatown. I think they need to make more additions. I'm not rating this 5 stars lightly. I have been eating banh mi sandwiches around nyc for the past 12 years and this place is my favorite. I like their banh mi the best because the vegetables seem fresher, the carrots, radish and cucumber here are bright and not overly pickled. The cilantro likewise is never old and wilted, like at many other banh mi joints. Their classic banh mi is my favorite, the three porks compliment each other well. The white meat chicken option is the only other one I get, it's pretty good too. I've gotten the pho a few times but mainly stick to the sandwich. Both dishes were very filling and highly recommended. Serving size of the soup is quite large in my opinion, so don't underestimate the "will I get filled up" factor. Hanco's sells bubble tea, Vietnamese sandwiches/ banh mi, vermicelli noodle plates, and pho. They're great for summer iced drinks and winter hot teas and soups. Their sandwiches are amazing. And Hanco's has two or three locations, so hopefully there is one by you! I am a big fan of their grilled pork sandwich. It has a big helping of tender, marinated pork slices, some spicy mayo dressing, and a large handful of sweet pickled carrot and radish. Cilantro and jalapenos garnish the top if you ask for spicy. Its about 6-7 inches long on a hero somewhere between a baguette and a hero. The bread is crisp on the outside and soft in the middle, and will not scratch up the roof of your mouth. I also love their pho. Teas and coffees are also tasty and all of their bubbles are cooked with sugar or honey - they're treats in and of themselves! Service is usually very fast. Your order at the counter. Then you pick up your drink if you ordered one. Then you pick up your food all the way at the end. There is seating in the front and in the rear up some stairs that have some nice backyard lighting. Counter people tend to speak Cantonese at both Hanco's locations I've visted. Usually a 5-7 minute wait for my fresh sandwich. Prices are great and the meals are a good value. A sandwich is the perfect size for a lunch. Add a bubble tea and I'm very full. Both items should come out to $11, but you can easily get just a sandwich for under $10. Ambiance tends to be a little dark, with most surfaces covered in a dark wood. Tables are cleaned periodically, but during high lunch rush, you might have to deal with some messes on your own. Everything is super casual, designed for quick meal enjoyment. read more

The noodle felt a little gummy, so I let it soak some broth for a while and it got better texture. The flavor I can give 4.5 stars for it was good. As far as I know, there's no other Pho in Brooklyn Heights-- so, this is my only choice unless I want to go south into the heart of downtown Brooklyn to Nicky's. Luckily, Hanco's pho is acceptable. It's not awesome, but it certainly satisfies my pho hankering if I don't wanna stray too far away from home. I like the layout of the restaurant--there's seating on the ground floor and seating in a loft area near the rear of the restaurant. Also, the inside of Hanco's is newly-renovated, modern looking, and welcoming. I hear the thing to try is the traditional Vietnamese sandwiches such as their Bánh mì. I actually prefer this location to the one on Bergen Street. It's bigger and a lot more accessible for me. The food is exactly the same, which is a really good thing. I wish all the Hanco's had Veggie Pho (meaning NOT made with meats) like some other Vietmanese places do, but that's alright as I'm not judging them too much on this.
