Hi . Last night we drove to Han Dynasty in Exton to see if they were open. They were, however, for take out only, which was fine with us as we are social distancing! We tried to place an order with the one man who was there. He was totaled stressed and could not confirm modifications to our order with the kitchen staff as he said none of them spoke any English. I have a severe allergy to an ingredient and to be honest he could not help or cared to help us. I think he was overwhelmed. We have been customers of this location for years and wanted to share this story with other customers who may also have allergies and require modifications to entrees. This place has went downhill. It use to be so busy around lunch and even the staff were so overwhelmed that they don't pick up the phones when they were extremely busy. I went back the other day to do takeout and ordered chicken lo mein and hot and sour soup. The lo mein had barely any chicken just tiny strips of it and charged me for this???!! Also very oily. They are cheating out on their food but charges you. I wouldn't be back here anymore as this place is horrible. I have been a regular to Han Dyasty for over an year now. Thought will give credit where its due :-) . Food : This is by far the best Chinese restaurant I have been to. Be warned, the food could be on the spicier side. Being an indian did help me :-) . In the past one year the food quality and taste have been consistent. I am a big sea food lover and most of the time I had fish from this place. They have different preparations based on the spice level. My favorite is "Fish in dry pot" , its the spiciest of the lot and I really savor that. Service : You can't compare the service to some high end eating place. But I never had a bad experience here. Ambiance : Its a small place and the ambiance is nothing great to be talked about. But the food makes up for all that :-) . Price : Its moderately priced for the quality of food they provide. New to the area and my husband and I finally found a Chinese restaurant with a decent selection. Both my husband and myself enjoy spicy food and found that the rating they use is very helpful. Han Dynasty has become my husband and my go to chinese restaurant. We have lived in Exton for 10 years and never knew about this restaurant till fairly recently when my husband went with coworkers and came home raving about it. Han is unlike any other chinese restaurant in the area. I always heard how traditional American Chinese restaurants are not representative of actual chinese food, but until I experienced Han I had no idea just how different (and delicious) real authentic chinese food was. Many of the dishes are very spicy and I can only handle so much spice so it limits me trying certain cooking styles. However the cooking styles I have tried have been unbelievable. My favorites are the scallion style beef and kung pow chicken or shrimp. I highly recommend the three cup chicken as well. I highly recommend Han Dynasty to anyone who loves eating delicious out of the ordinary cuisine. read more

I really want to like this place, but each time I come here I say it's my last. Why is it so difficult to offer good service? I really think the owners of this place just don't give a rat's behind. Went there on a Saturday night and there were plenty of empty seats. We were a party of 3 and were seated immediately at a table where I felt the rush of cold air each time the front door opened. I had to get up and grab a menu at the desk as we were not given menus when seated. Waitress came over to take our order yet the others in my party didn't have menus. We were given a pot of tea and it was filled half way, enough for about two cups each. Placed our orders and in about 5 minutes, my entree arrived, lamb with cabbage and onions in hot oil. Yet my wife and daughter had to wait about 10 minutes for their entrees to arrive. One positive tonight: we had a full bowl of rice, almost enough for 3. But it was cold by the time the other entrees arrived. This is not the first time this has happened to me. Why can't we all be served at the same time? A rhetorical question because I would probably see cows fly before I would get a reply from the manager or owner of this place. Many yelpers complain about lousy service, but nothing changes. But judging from the clientele during my visit, I guess they have lower service standards, so why change? Decent food, rotten service. This place is just not that special anymore and the empty tables are proof. It's a BYO, but we were given red plastic Coke tumblers for our beer. For the last two years at least once a month we drive 30 miles each way from Lancaster County to eat at Han Dynasty. Can not eat Lancaster Co. chinese food anymore. Unfortunately we've gotten in to a rutt and order the same thing every time, Kung Pao shrimp and Garlic Sauce chicken, Dan Dan noodles of course and fried dumplings. When something tastes that good, you just don't mess with success. . It's BYOB so we always bring a bottle of champagne to enjoy with our meal. The food is to die for! Service can be slow. Just raise your hand when you need something including the bill. This is a no rush restaurant. Jose is the most attentive of the staff. We haven't been to any of the other Han Dynasties but plan on trying the one in Manayunk soon. Hope you enjoy it as much as we do! read more

Reading the reviews here will give you an accurate sense of this place. Food was overall good with subtle flavors you typically will not find in more Americanized Chinese food joints. I had some misgivings, however, about food quality. Deep fried chicken (chicken with dry chilis) was dry and probably mostly batter; it was hard to taste any chicken. I wonder if there is some economizing going on which devalues the quality of the dishes. Chicken with broccoli came in a flavorful sauce but a few chicken pieces were a little odd in texture and rubbery. Slightly funky meat always worries me. Portions were on the small side in absolute terms and most definitely for a typical Chinese restaurant. Service is poor. Noone was outright mean but noone was friendly either. There was very minimal interaction with the staff. An older couple seemed to be mostly working the place along with a middle age guy. Definitely understaffed. There was even a 'help wanted' sign on the entrance door. We had to wait a little while for the check. Other tables were being treated similarly, though I think the suggestion one reviewer made could be correct, that, if you are white, you could expect to get somewhat better service (you might actually get spoken to and maybe get a smile). I did notice one group of people who came in who were warmly greeted by the older woman and with whom she seemed to know as regulars. Based on the many reviews too, I do not expect you can expect to get good reliable service here so maybe a better place for take out and not dining in (though I suspect there are some caveats about the food). Did not see many people there during lunchtime. Menu was kind of dirty. I would be interested in knowing the history of this place. I want to give this place 4-5 stars but I just can't. The food is delicious but the service is ATROCIOUS and the interior is very worn and dated. My husband and I went on a fairly busy Friday night because he loves Chinese food and I had been here previously and the food was delicious. We were seated right away, but waited a good 10 minutes for the water/tea to be delivered. I ordered the beef with scallions (yum!) and my husband ordered the kung pao chicken. My meal came out fairly quickly, but we then waited another 10-15 minutes for his meal. What the heck? This is Service 101--don't bring one person's meal out and force them to sit awkwardly as their food gets cold. Every time I would try to get someone's attention to ask about my husband's meal, they would look the other way and rush by. Han Dynasty in Exton just gave us the most miserable experience. Kiki is a miserable person working the front counter. Unprofessional. We saw on the Internet that the store was open until 9:30pm. Got there and Kiki said no. She was very short with us. Said we could order to go but could not stay. We mentioned the time on the Internet and she said no, they close at 9. We placed our order and paid, then took a seat. About 20 minutes later, she came back and said they were out of soup and they could give us a scallion pancake. I don't like scallions. Nothing else was offered. We suggested a refund of just the price of the soup. She said no. "The system doesn't allow that." When our suggestion of dumplings was made she said no, the price was different. A gentleman, who was related to the owner, said that was fine. She was going to charge us the $2 difference, but he said don't worry about it. She said that she'd have to charge him for it. At that point I'd had enough. I said to just cancel the whole order. She wasn't going to do that either. I walked back to the back of the restaurant and got the owner's relative to refund our money because it was clear that she was doing nothing for us. I've tried this restaurant a few times for lunch and dinner. The service and ambience is good. The lunch special is a steal for money and comes with a soup, main and rice. The hot and sour soup is really good and spicy. Wonton soup was a little bland and needed a decent helping of salt. The egg rolls are good and comes with a nice dipping sauce. Love the dan dan noodles. The noodles are good and the sauce is yum. The garlic chicken is also very good. Very mild in spice level and the sauce has a subtle hint of garlic. One dish I was really disappointed with was the fried dumplings. The dough is super thick and the dough to meat ratio is way off!! I couldn't taste the meat at all. This is the worst dumplings I've ever had and hence the 3 star. The only good part about it was the dipping sauce which was good. It's such a shame. I hope they change their dumplings. The service was super friendly. The waiters is always there to give you advice on which dish to order. They have authentic Chinese/Taiwanese/Cantonese dishes. When you go there you have to try the meatballs(Lion's Head). It is made from a secret recipe that the owner's mom made. The meatball is super tender, it is hard to believe they actual hold together. I work about 10 minutes driving distance from the restaurant. I go there to eat lunch once a week and I usually call ahead and when I arrived to the restaurant, the dishes is already ready to be enjoyed. Authentic Taiwanese, Szechuan, and Cantonese food in Exton! The food has been great, but we think many of the dishes are using the same sauce base (the hot chili oil)...a little bit tired of it. The restaurant is busy and I believe it is quite either understaffed or is staffed with inexperienced waiters. I used to be a waiter before and this place needs to have a makeover for the staff because they really only know how to take orders and deliver the dishes. They have no concept of customer satisfaction: making you sit for 10 minutes before asking you for drinks, then another 10 minutes to take orders, and worst of all, a very long time to give you the check. A step closer to authentic Sichuan cuisine and but not quite all the way there. I spoke Chinese so service was fast, but there were clearly unhappy customers waiting to be taken care of. They are generally understaffed here. Food overall was good, but flavors were not distinct between dishes and they use too much oil. We got the dandan doodles, which was the best of our dishes. if you're into authentic Chinese Szechuan cuisine, go to Han Dynasty. there arent a lot of decent authentic chinese food around here. so when i'm up for chinese, this is where i usually go unless i drive into chinatown. be daring and stray away from the usual Americanized Lo-mein, fried rice, egg drop soup and general tsos chicken. instead order from their authentic traditional chinese menu. if you're really daring, ask the waiter to recommend something. i've enjoyed their pickled vegetable fish soup, garlic sauteed snow pea leaves, and spicy cubed chicken. the restaurant is spacious and has two room for small private parties. it has a nice clean environment too. take out is also available for lunch and dinner. food service is fast and food is consistently good. i recommend going with a lot of friends so you can try out a lot of dishes. the portions are a pretty good amount... read more

Han Dynasty has some of the most delicious food I've had in Chester County. Apparently it's very authentic but they also have an Americanized menu. The only complaint I have is the customer service. Expect a longer than normal wait, possibly non attentive waiters and waitresses and maybe getting your food in the incorrect order. The food gets 4.5 stars but the service was sub 2. The "help wanted" sign hand written and taped to front door was the first sign. A wait area full of people waiting for assistance was the 2nd. We continued on and eventually (after too much waiting) were served 2 very delicious dishes: honey walnut shrimp and 3-cup chicken. This chicken dish is like nothing I've had before and had garlic, basil and ginger. The sauce was dark and slightly sweet like teriyaki. Just amazing!! We are not local and were just passing through, but I would highly recommend this place if you have the patience.
