Really yummy comfort food here! We have never tried this place before and got take out. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality and all of the vegetarian options. Did takeout from here this week. The food here is ok. I would give them 3.5 stars. Would probably go here in a pinch but it is not my "go to" place. Egg rolls here were homemade but not particularly stuffed with filling. Shrimp lo mein was a bit flavorless with fresh shrimp, a bit of cabbage and noodles that had no indication of being stir fried in a wok. Shrimp egg foo you was good but the gravy tasted more like soy sauce than anything else and was too thin. The General Tso's chicken sauce had a nice spice and thin breading but the sauce looked at the bottom of the container and was too thin to stick to the chicken. Great food and service. I've tried other Chinese takeouts, in the area, and Gou's Garden has the best egg rolls and Shrimp and Broccoli. The shrimp are large and cooked well. More shrimp than other take outs in the area. Definitely my go to place. read more

Great option for Chinese as it is better than average but not outstanding. We ordered Kung Pao chicken, the shrimp fried rice, several ordered of spring rolls with shrimp, and fried wontons with meat, not cheese. My kung pao was the combination so it came with fried rice and a egg roll. Everything fried was great, literally. Now the main courses were good enough but I like my chicken to be sliced, not diced. I don't like celery as a vegetable substitute and especially not with carrots. And I like my fried rice yellow like saffron rice. Now it wasn't by any means bad, and I mean this was consumed 2 hours after picking up, so it was still good. And it's good enough to say I would order from here again because it's a safe good option. read more

We have been very loyal customers since Guo's Garden opened. Have always been pretty satisfied with the food. Tonight however, we ordered, and our meals were absolutely awful. I have gotten the same thing virtually every single time I've ever ordered from them over the years. Sesame beef - was completely fried, tiny little pieces and could barely taste any meat, so I have no idea what I just ate. My husband ordered orange chicken and the same thing. We both threw our food out- we were so disappointed. Not sure if it's under new management but whatever it is, epic fail. We will not be ordering from them again. read more

I didn't like the food at all. My family didn't like the Gen Tso, not sure why but they didn't care for it. My fried rice was so hard, I'm not sure it was even fully cooked. I actually threw most of our food out, so I will not be returning. read more

This one's a puzzle. The food is always good, in the context of inexpensive Chinese- American dining. And Guo's has a particular focus on vegetarian cuisine, which is commendable; I've never had a bad meal here. Why the lack of enthusiasm? Well, could they clean the place up a bit? The thankfully plastic-covered menus were positively grimy, and the last one I ordered featured an eyelash from the previous patron. A desirable testimony? I think not. The dining area overall is untidy and a bit shabby, with dead flies in the windowsill. Which leads me to wondering what's behind the always-firmly-shut door to the kitchen. Good food, but the place gives me the willies. For heaven's sake, hire a proper cleaning crew and spruce the place up a bit. read more

When you order delivery it arrives so quickly I don't understand it. I've ordered and been eating within 20 minutes. It's almost like they are psychics anticipating your order. The food is ready and they send a car out as soon as your pick up the phone to call. Their vegetarian menu is so good. The food is inexpensive. The serving sizes get you through two meals. I like this place because it's consistent and not too salty. It's a good place for Americanized Chinese food. The sauces are not too goo-ey either. I would say food is below average. We ordered the general tso's chicken, beef lo mein and shrimp with lobster sauce. The shrimp with lobster sauce was pretty good but the beef in the lo mein was very chewy (I picked it out when eating the lo mein) and the general tso's was not good at all. The girl who is at the front who answers the phone is very nice but everyone else there is rude. 2 stars is for the food and service. Worst Chinese food I have ever had. Disgusting, tough, burnt and greasy. Avoid at all costs.

They have a full vegetarian menu - it's not included in the main menu, ask if you need it. I've tried their Szechuan tofu, veggie Kung Po "chicken," and veggie wonton soup, and all were great. The lunch combos are a little over $6 each, and they include quite a bit of food. I got two meals out of my dish! The staff is incredibly friendly, and the place itself is quite cozy. read more

Gou's Garden is a pretty awesome chinese restaurant in the middle of not much else. They have a pretty extensive "regular" menu with all of the standard Chinese favorites, but what makes this place special to me is that when you flip the menu over, there is almost the same exact, extensive menu, only it's VEGETARIAN. A whole array of faux meats, tofu, and vegetables are offered here in addition to the typical meat-eater fare, so everyone can go here and leave happy. Although I always get take-out because the ambiance is not the nicest, it is BYOB if you felt like eating-in. The Vegetarian General Tso's was my favorite for a long time, but after eating the Vegetarian Pork w/ Garlic Sauce, I may have a new fave. Love this place!!! read more

This is my favorite bad Chinese. Bad Chinese is like shitty pizza (the favorite example of an old and animated economist professor): in short, it's comforting, modest, and delicious. Guo's is primarily a take out place and, to be frank, the interior is no-frills pragmatism, just like the food. Nonetheless, the menu is prodigious, the tea is hot and tasty, and the service is eminently adequate. I like the Mei Fun. I probably would not bring a date here (well, that would depend), but if you're looking for an easy and solid standby to enjoy with amigos or pick you up after a hard day of work, Guo's is a good investment. read more

I've been going here for 10+ years and I don't think I've ever been disappointed. In fact, after going away to college and coming back home it's still the best Chinese takeout I've ever had. I love this place. It is for take out. The seating is really not acceptable, and for a few hundred they could put some wallpaper on the walls, get some decent tables, and chairs. That being said, the food is great. They will make anything you want. They will make anything spicy, which is how we like it. The vegetarian menu is the best I have ever had. Amazing. And tasty. Try this! Ask for general tso's and tell them you want only white meat. They will use the thin sliced stuff they use for other menu items and it is delicious. We order from this place twice a week. We used to order delivery and take out from here, when we lived close. We have even sat down for a dinner or two in the restaurant. It was great! We moved 8 years ago and decided to stop by for the first time since then, last night. BIG DISAPPOINTMENT! The waitress seemed upset that we wanted to stay to eat. While deciding what everyone was drinking (3 kids 2 adults), we apparently took too long because she walked away and came back with water. Then, as we told her what we were actually drinking, she said "really?". The temperature of the food when we got it was from scalding to tepid. I ordered something that was to be served in an "intricate noodle basket". It must have been invisible. One of the kids ordered beef lo mein and they seemed to add the beef as an afterthought (all 4 little pieces of it). I realize it's mostly a takeout/delivery place, but then don't keep the dining room open. read more

We have been eating here or Taking Out, for at least 15 Yrs. and LOVE it, The Workers are always terrific, and the food is delicious. I especially like the Shrimp Egg Foo Young, as well as the Singapore Mai Fun, but have never had a complaint. read more

We ordered a wide assortment of foods-- crab Rangoon, pork fried rice, general tso's, pork lo mein, spare ribs, etc. it was perfectly cooked, and arrived right to my house via delivery in 20 mins or less. I like the food, but the last two times have been disappointing - mostly because I am being told how long before pickup, only to get the food cold. I understand it is a family business, but I would be cautious about putting the youngest child at the register, taking the take out orders.
