Came here for a late lunch on a weekday. We were the only ones at that time. Waiter was nice but almost took the wrong order with a wrong soup. I'm glad we heard him repeating and corrected him. We had the Dan Dan Noodles as an appetizer. It came pretty hot (temperature wise) with too much sauce - too much that made it look like a noodle soup.... Luckily it tastes good, not too spicy. Each of us had a lunch special - pork in garlic sauce with hot & sour soup. The soup was pretty spicy - more spicy than the Dan Dan Noodle. The pork dish was very tasty - actually too much sauce on it. But good taste. Another lunch special is beef with scallion with egg roll. The beef dish is great. And the egg roll was fresh! read more

I've been to Han Dynasty many times over the years, including the original restaurant back in New York. The General Tao's is always excellent, and Shrimp appetizers never disappoint. Consistent flavor, great execution -- this place delivers every time. This location is small but cozy ,never felt crowded or noisy. read more

No longer what it once was. Ordered take out a few weeks ago. Dan Dan noodles and Lamb with cumin. Was told 20 minutes. I showed up early and expected to wait but my food was ready? How do you prepare fresh food like that in ten minutes? Noodles were like mush. No texture at all. I could barely pick them up with the chopsticks! Lamb was mostly dry and chewy. This all looked and tasted like it had been prepared ahead of time. In case some don't know this was the very first Han Dynasty location. People used to come from Jersey not just to eat but to bring full entrees home! Han Chiang used to wait on us personally. This is my go-too spot for mapo tofu. It's spicy, warm, authentic, and super flavorful. Sometimes depending on who is cooking, it'll be a bit different for a week but they always go back to the classics and bring the old recipe back. Please never change the mapo tofu recipe, it's my favorite dish and place to order authentic Chinese food! read more

Disappointing. The waiter wasn't rude he was downright disrespectful when questions were asked of the menu. No, you can not get General Tso Shrimp because it is not on the menu. No, we do not have lemon to add to your water. I didn't dare ask for sweetener for the tea! The order of general tso's chicken came out looking like huge croquettes swimming in a sweet pink sauce. Went to this place with a friend for dinner, we were greeted and offered a table and menu. The restaurant is in a small strip mall exterior is not that great compared to other places but interior is well maintained. This is my first time here, so I went with my friends' suggestions, we ordered dry pot fish as starter, I got to tell that's one of best dishes I had in recent times, nicely made and served hot. It was served so quickly that the portions were very good and tasty. Then we ordered garlic chicken with fried rice !! That was great, too. The food was perfect and tasty. Just another location for my FAVORITE Szechuan restaurant in the Philadelphia area! As soon as I arrived I was greeted and seated at a super cute little corner table that allowed me to see all the decor. The host/server was very prompt and attentive. The spicy cold cucumber appetizer was spicy, gingery, and flavorful - a lot of salt (which I LOVE). The cumin lamb is my go-to from Han Dynasty. Super spicy with a lot of long-hots and red chilis. I took of one star only because they vegetables were not as cooked as I like them, they were still pretty raw, but overall the food and experience was great. Cherry Hill is my favorite location, but this was closer to where I was, and I am not disappointed in the service and food I received here! read more

The only dish I come here for is the cold sesame-garlic noodles. In the past, I've enjoyed many, many meals here with family and friends. Over the years, the food quality has definitely changed. Portions are smaller, and some items that used to be in the menu are no longer available. In these pictures, we were dining in. Last time I got my cold noodles as take out, it was frozen in the middle. I went home and thawed it in the microwave, but didn't order out for a long time afterwards. I only came back because my auntie who'd moved away missed going there for old time's sake. Overall, I'm not impressed with the food these days, but will occasionally go out of nostalgia. read more

We came here for the Szechuan food we had heard good things about. Know ahead of time that they will only let you pay with two credit cards per table. This is really annoying, but be prepared to Venmo. We shared everything. We started with scallion pancakes, Dan Dan Noodles, and wontons in chili oil. The wontons were probably my favorite of the group. For entrees we got Mapo Tofu, Garlic Style Pork, Crispy Rice Style Fish, Dry Pepper Style Chicken, and Dry Pot Style Beef. My favorite styles were Dry Pepper and Crispy Rice followed closely by Garlic Style. The only thing I wasn't a fan of was the Mapo Tofu. It was a lot runnier than other versions I've had and the Tofu was mushier. I was surprised that nothing was very spicy. Even the things marked as a 10 on the menu weren't very spicy. This is definitely in contrast to other Szechuan food I've had. The service wasn't great. You really have to flag down the waiters to get them to pay attention and take your order. Overall we got a lot of food for a good price and we enjoyed it. I would come back, but it's not ideal for groups because of the payment restrictions. read more

Han Chiang: You should be ashamed and embarrassed to have your name associated with this place! What happened to you, man? Bait and Switch. Don't let the name fool you. This is by no means the "Han Dynasty" of Old City, Manayunk, etc. I'm wondering if chef/founder Han Chiang got paid a huge sum of $$ to allow this location to license the name and continue to be a part of the Han Dynasty chain (in name only). What a fraud. I've eaten a lot of cheap, bad Chinese food over the years... this will rank among the top 3 worst disappointments. My family and I had lunch here today after several years away. What a god-awful meal. Some highlights (or more accurately, lowlights): The Dan Dan noodles (which made HD so popular, so much so that Han Chiang's sister started her own "Dan Dan" restaurants) came out in a soupy mess of overcooked brown noodles in a gray gravy. I asked the waiter (who was a very nice guy) if it was the correct order and he said "Yeah, that's Dan Dan noodles. But I don't really know about the food. I just work here." Enough said... Salt n Pepper Seafood (which in your typical Chinese restaurant is usually scallops, shrimp and squid lightly coated in flour or starch, deep fried and seasoned with salt, white pepper and five spice) was a dish of mostly tilapia fish pieces, two small pieces of shrimp and a few imitation crab sticks all buried inside a heavy, doughy tasteless batter the consistency of dried Elmer's glue. The only dish that somewhat resembled the Han Dynasty I remembered was the snow pea leaves with garlic. Pretty hard to mess that one up, I guess. Really sad to see this happen. read more

I have not been to Han Dynasty in several years. After hearing my sisters speak of Mapo Tofu I decided to hunt down a place I can get it within reason. This location is closer to where I am currently assigned for work so I did the take out option. Ordering via phone was seamless. -Shredded Duck -Cumin Chicken -Mapo Tofu -Scallion Pancake -Wonton in Chili oil Best items were the shredded although I wish the duck has more meat. Scallion pancake and the wonton were also good. The Mapo was ok. A bit runny and not real flavor to it. It's my first time trying this dish and I was expecting something more I guess. Everything is take away now with covid. If I go back, I will like to try the dry dishes. read more

I've been to this location three times now, I think--most recently on Saturday. It's not nearly as fancy as the one in Old City, but that's fine by me. On this outing, my friend and I had the Dan Dan noodles, cumin style lamb and black bean style chicken. The noodles are always a favorite, as they've got a subtle heat that sneaks up on you, and excellent flavor. I didn't have super high expectations for the black bean style chicken, but it turned out to be delicious. It's only a 3 on their spice level, and there's a little sweetness in there (but not as much as in the Three Cup Chicken we had last time--which was too sweet for me)--a good balance. The cumin style lamb was a solid dish, but it was my least favorite of the bunch. While I like cumin, maybe it was too much of a good thing? I also had to spit out a few pieces. Service is generally efficient--though occasionally it was hard to find someone when we needed them. As noted previously, the ambiance isn't anything special, but it's fine. Overpriced food that isn't even good quality. The fried rice is nothing but white rice with veggies in it. Salt & pepper wings were soggy and just overall didn't taste very good. Very disappointed. While CNN may have this place on their top 50 Chinese places, it did not earn such a high rank in my opinion. My mom and I stopped here last night while we were in Exton. We were the only customers there, though 2-3 other employees were sitting at tables toward the back. When placing my order, the waiter barely waited for me to finish, basically walking away to put it in so he could sit back behind the front counter on his phone. As a result, I ended up with white rice instead of pork fried rice, so I didn't really touch that part of my meal. The egg drop soup was good and came out at a good temperature (not super hot but warm enough to enjoy) and my chicken and broccoli was cooked to my specification (I.e. steamed) and portions were plentiful. My egg roll was a tad spicier than I'm used too but still good. Our waiter was preoccupied with his phone the entire time we were there and we constantly had to get up and ask for things (sugar, another pot of tea, duck sauce, etc). It was pretty annoying since we were literally the only customers in the whole restaurant. Although prices were decent, service was not great (especially considering we were literally the only people in there eating). Food was adequate though. read more

It's clear a lot of the lackluster reviews for this restaurant are due to people expecting low-quality, sticky-sweet Americanized "Chinese" food and it's a shame, because this place is one of the few in the Exton/Downingtown/West Chester area serving real, authentic unabashedly spicy Sichuan dishes. The dan dan noodles were fantastic, the bok choy was crisp and fresh, and the beef dry pot was amazingly spicy and flavorful. They were happy to make my wife a milder kung pao chicken dish too. Everything came out in a timely manner and was served piping hot. All told, with apps, entrees, and even an order of fried dumplings to take to our son, the bill ended up being less than $70 - and we couldn't finish everything. Sadly, we spoke to the server for a while and since the pandemic, dine-in business hasn't picked up again, which is a real shame. People want to complain about the lack of good places to eat and then throw their money at cookie cutter takeout places while authentic ethnic spots languish. If you like real, authentic Sichuan Chinese, this place needs your love. If you want chicken and broccoli, General Tso's , and fortune cookies, look elsewhere. read more

This is not your usual Chinese restaurant. You will know that immediately when you look at the menu. Dishes are not primarily divided by the protein ingredient, ( chicken, pork and so on) but by the method the dish is prepared. This is probably some of the best Chinese food I have ever eaten. The spices are of the very best quality and authentic like the Szechuan peppercorns. They will make the back of your tongue tingle. If you are not familiar with Szechuan food and are looking for the usual bland Cantonese style of food you may be disappointed. If you enjoy a spicy touch to the dish that is absolutely authentic and prepared with care, you will be hard pressed to find a better restaurant even in a big city Chinatown. The various dishes offered take different times to prepare and will come out of the kitchen as they are finished. If you eat family style ( share each dish) there is no problem. If you eat only your own separate dish which many people mistakenly do, they will not all come out at the same time. My family is looking forward to our next visit to this great restaurant. Out of the few Han Dynasty locations in the area, I'm bummed this was my first one. The food was just as mouth watering as I've been told, but when I was going through the pros and cons, I had to give it three stars. My group of three walked in at around 6pm for an early Sunday dinner. There was quite a big group in the front, mostly patrons who were waiting for their take out orders. When I told the host that we were dining in, it took quite a bit of time for them to seat us even though the restaurant itself looked pretty bare. The booth we were finally escorted to was fine although the surrounding area was wet, as if they had just spilled a pitcher of water. I was pretty bothered because instead of cleaning it up before we took our seats, the host seemed to just walk past it. I started my dinner off with wonton soup which tasted good but it was served at room temperature instead of hot as soup should be. One of my dining partners and I split the pork in garlic sauce and the dry pot style chicken for our entrees and both were delicious. The pork in garlic sauce was tasty without being too spicy (at least in my opinion). It was served with noodles to help soak in all of the sauce. The dry pot dish was flavorful, spicy and the chicken was cooked just perfectly. We also really enjoyed the seasoned onions, mushrooms and other veggies that came in this dish. I'm glad we were served a bowl of rice for the table because although I tried to enjoy a low carb dinner, it was much needed to tone down the spiciness of this entree! Although the food was really great, I couldn't help but keep turning my head to look around at the appearance of the restaurant. I understand this location is more on the causal side, but it could really use some heavy duty cleaning and possibly even a revamp. Someone from my party and I both noticed a huge cart of dirty, used dishes propped up by the door as were making our exit. How unappetizing! We were really in awe at the fact that this was just left out for customers to see. Good thing we didn't notice this during our dinner because I'm sure it would have had an affect on our appetites. I might get take out from here in the future due to the fact that the food really is delicious, but you won't see me dining inside again. The service at the Exton location is astoundingly bad. All online orders - even for customers picking up their own meals - are sent to Door Dash. The pickup timer indicating when an order is ready is inaccurate. It counts down automatically after the order is placed, rather than reflecting an actual timing. After ignoring me and several other customers waiting in the lobby, the desk employee informed us that the pickup timer isn't actually tied to the kitchen and that all of our orders would be delayed considerably longer. He then suggested that we cancel and leave. After asking how to receive a refund, as I had already paid online, the employee told me to "call Door Dash." I tried to explain that I hadn't used Door Dash, just the main Han Dynasty website and that Han Dusty had messaged me that the order was ready. The employee became irate, balled his fists and screamed at me. . It was honestly surreal. Multiple waiting customers left. One kind gentleman - also waiting for his order - apologized for the employee's behavior. None of the other restaurant staff bothered help or seemed to care.. A truly bizarre experience. The people who work here are super nice and the food is quite good, but the prices are way out of proportion to the amount of food you get. Food used to bump up against the lid of the takeout container, now it barely reaches the lip of the container. I'd say a decrease of 1/4 in food, but the prices have increased. read more

We complained and they did replace one item but replacement as bad as original. Asked that another entree be removed from the bill, which they did, reluctantly. Must be new management. I am sorry to say this, as I was one of the first to find the gem that was Han Dynasty, I must report that it is not even a shell of its former self. I can't remember the last time I went to a Chinese restaurant where the food wasn't even edible. Unfortunately, this will be my last visit. Nothing we ordered we even close to acceptable. The lamb was overly salty, overly seasoned to the point it was "tinny" tasting, the pork belly was overlooked, salty and tasteless. Dan Dan noodles were literally mush. I could go on but you get the drift. I read the other reviews -- I suppose that the folks that made Han dynasty good in the beginning no longer reside in this area.
