We got wind of this Mom-and-Pop Middle Eastern Restaurant from one of my boyfriend's colleagues who says the chicken shawarma here is exactly like how they make it in the actual Middle East. And can't say no to authenticity! So here we are...stuffed and satisfied with THE most delicious Middle Eastern food I've ever had. We split the Hamido's special plate for 2 people and were floored by how much food we got. A salad, plate of excellent hummus, a bag of pita bread, and a HUGE plate of rice and various cuts of grilled meats that lasted us both lunch and dinner. Can't beat the price with a stick. Not only was the food plentiful, but the taste of everything was absolutely on-point. The staff was hospitable and service was swift and no-frills. Wish we didn't have to drive all the way to Dearborn to get this, but Hamido is definitely worth the trek out here. read more

I come to Dearborn pretty often and always have to get my middle eastern food fix! I usually go to Al Ameer but i wanted to try something new this time so Hamido was chosen. Overall every place pretty much serves the same thing and the taste is relatively similar. I ordered the special for 2 which is chicken and beef shawarma and kebabs. It was a lot of food and was really good! I must have saw an old menu because the price upon order was 10 more. I would definitely come back! It was so delicious! read more

very clean and great friendly service, food is delicious and they are very generous with their food!

We have been going here for several years now. The staff is amazing, welcoming atmosphere and the food is out of this world. I could go on for ever, but I'll just say, you should definitely give them a shot. read more

This was our fourth time to eat at Hamido and it did not disappoint! Everything we ate was so flavorful and delicious; we savored every bite. We got the specialty platter for two which provided a nice variety of items in plentiful amounts. The waitress was very friendly and attentive. My only complaint was their use of plastic water bottles; it would be very easy to set up a self serve water area or give each table a pitcher of water. read more

Worst food ever, worst customer service the chicken was dryer then my left . You guys gotta do better and cook better thank you

Casual eatery which seems very popular amongst the local Middle Eastern population (thats how you know its good). Easy order at the counter and then either be seated or grab your food to go. I was on my way back home and given the long road trip, decided to order a meat shawerma and a chicken shawerma for my lunch and dinner. The meat shawerma was filled to the brim with beef, tahini and onions but i loved the chicken shawerma (filled with tender chicken, onions, tomatoes and I think garic instead of tahini but not sure). Prices are also very reasonable (my sandwiches total was $10). read more

Delicious food with generous servings. Our go to is the platter for two and there's always sufficient for two meals

The food was delicious, and the best I've had in the States. The food reminded me of what I was used to eating when I lived in the Middle East. The place is small, and not too great to dine in, but the prices are affordable and not bad taking home/hotel room to eat in, unless you don't mind dining in a hole in the wall kinda place. This place is highly recommended!!! read more

I found out about Hamido from Eater's list of restaurants for Dearborn. The BF LOVES Middle Eastern/Mediterranean food so I put that on our agenda for the weekend. The restaurant is pretty small, but the folks are super friendly. Pita triangles are already on the table, so you can help yourself to as much as you want! I had their Shish combo, which comes with Shish Kabob, Shish Kafta, and Shish Tawook. Their platters come with your choice of hummus, baba ghanoush, rice, or fries. I opted for the hummus, which was really good. I really enjoyed the kafta here - it was by far, the best kafta I have ever had. BF had their shawarma combo with beef and chicken shawarma. The beef shawarma was really, really good. The meat was moist and flavorful. Both platters ended up being our dinner that night, so you get at least two meals from each order! read more

After having the most unsatisfying meal in my life during a layover in Chicago (see photos of Tuscany at Chicago Midway Airport), I raced out to Hamido immediately after landing in Detroit. They were still open half an hour before midnight and the cashier was surprisingly eager to take my order. I had the chicken shawarma salad, which was available in three sizes (S,M,L). I didn't research ahead of time and just selected something in the middle. It turns out the medium size is a decent lunch portion, and probably a bit too much for a late night snack. I'd say the shawarma at Hamido was the best I've ever had. The chicken was tender, juicy, garlicky, and sliced into the largest chunks of meat I've ever seen for its type. Most pieces of chicken had edges that were crusty, it's a feature that I seldom find at Arabic restaurants in California. The shawarma was served on top of fattoush, which was standard fare, bursting with bright and tangy flavors. I don't mind returning to Hamido for late night shawarma again. I was told that the Lebanese family combos here are also a must-try for anyone coming through the area. It's now on my bucket list to hit during my next trip to Detroit. read more

Me and my family was passing Dearborn on a summer road trip and wanted shawarma. After searching reviews and different sites we found Hamido this place has to have hands down the best shawarma I've ever had great flavor and the sauce they put on it was AMAZING! It's good Mediterranean food. I ordered the veggie platter, replaced Baba for the hummus and got the fatoosh salad, less pita in place of falafel. I have been too disappointed in the past with my falafel, tend to be too dry. The fatoosh was tasty and fresh, along with the tabouli. The baba was good, but nothing special. I am still glad I tried this place, I would go back again. We went to the smaller location, only heard that there was a bigger once after the fact. The wait staff was super cool, very accommodating and very attentive. read more

We got the whole chicken platter and it was fantastic. The hummus was great, and the chicken was cooked perfectly. The staff was pleasant ad helpful. This place looks a little hole-in-the-wall like from the outside, but the food is undeniably great. I look forward to coming back again soon, and bringing friends. read more

Stopped in here for dinner while grocery shopping in Dearborn one night with my boyfriend. The service is good, there were only a couple of other parties in the restaurant so we were greeted right away. At this restaurant, they only offer bottled water that you have to pay for which is a downside in my opinion. On the other hand, you get A LOT of food for what you pay for. Most of their dishes are pretty salty, but still very tasty. We ordered a dinner for two and took home plenty of leftovers! Overall good Lebanese style cooking and great service. read more

I went a little out of my way to visit Hamido when I was at a conference at Detroit, at the recommendation of my Dentist.... I will now forever be indebted to my dentist. No, not for heaping dental bills. For introducing me to the wonderousness of Hamido's food. It really was spectacular. I frequent Mediterranean/Middle Eastern restaurants often, but this olace really blows even my favorite local spots out of the water! I got the meat combo and everything was scrumptious, juicy and tender. I enjoyed their kind, thoughtful amd attentive service. And the prices were really a bargain for the amount and quality of the food. Definitely inpressed! If I'm ever back in the Detroit area, I'm hitting this place up for sure! read more

When you can't get out, do takeout. I am personally hanging up my apron. Excellent food here. I cannot say enough good things about it. I have wanted to try it forever and I am glad I did. The chicken shwarma was divine. Both kababs were moist and tender, not too chewy as some can be and they still had a good grilled flavor. The kafta definitely measured up with nice spice, I like a nice meaty and not overcooked kafta myself and this filled the bill. The hummus is incredible here, light and airy. I also liked the garlic sauce, even more of an airy texture to it. I am not picky about either but this was definitely top notch stuff so I appreciated that. The salad was crispy and fresh with good veggies and a nice light, slightly tangy dressing. The rice was lovely with a bit of the garlic sauce folded into it. They packed up the take out well and my father was in and out of the place, everything still warm by the time he got to Belleville. Portions are holy huge with plenty for more than one serving apiece. Our boxes weighed a ton! I had another go round this morning for breakfast. Yes, I like that sort of thing. My breath is atrocious after but hey I couldn't care less. It reheated so very well :). read more

Good grief what a great place Hamido is! Insanely cheap, huge portions and delicious eats. What more could you want? Brought my man Johnny T here while he was in town from Chicago. I ordered the chicken schwarma--a huge plate of sliced chicken (skin and all so it was nice and juicy) seasoned so wonderfully with warm spices and roasted, served with a huge helping of pickles, creamy hummous and pita bread. Oh, and the most delectable garlic sauce on the side! Johnny got a plate of the Ghalaya Chicken, a spiced sweet and sour dish served up with rice (a side that our waitress was very adamant should be ordered). If that spread wasn't enough we also split a side of baba ghanouj and falafel both of which were outstanding. Our waitress was just a delight. Very funny and charming. She pulled our legs and got a bit sarcastic with us in a really fun and not off putting way. I LOVE that. So yes, the food here is fab and the staff is great. But the true beauty of this place is that even though I ate until I was painfully full I took the leftovers home and had enough for an entire dinner then next day. Even better? It was just as delicious as the first time around and only for $10.25. Hot damn! read more

I asked my friend about places to go to in Dearborn and she recommended two places; one of them being Hamido's. I was so excited! After picking up my bf from the airport we went straight here. The entire time I was like we better be able to get in! We arrived and all of the 10 parking spaces were taken and with people waiting! WHOA! We parked in the parking lot next to this one and walked over. Turned out most people just order take out. I can see why. This place is a tiny hole in the wall. If you live close why not enjoy the food in the comforts of your own home. I don't love close so we ate here. They were at half dine-in capacity. Old style. Decor is not their strong point. We requested water and was given a bottle of water. Nice! $1/bottle Like everyone mentioned, they give you so much food and for such a reasonable price! We ordered 6 Falafels and each got an entree. We were able to finish the falafels but not our entrees. Not even closed. It looked like I didn't even make a dent in mine. HAHAHAHA. The left overs were enough to feed us the next day! I asked for garlic sauce and the waitress gave me two! OMG! I am in love. I took it home and ate it with everything for the next two days. Please ignore my garlic breath. =D The waitress was nice too! Overall, it was a great experience! read more

The best chicken shawarma. If you think like me, chicken shawarma is a gamble that usually ends in DRY. Not here. Get it on a pita, get it on a salad, get it on a plate... choose your delivery mechanism... but, just get it! You'll thank me later. Hamido is a busy little neighborhood diner in the middle of the Dearborn Arab community (one of the largest outside the middle east). Authentic for sure. This is one of my favorite lunch spots. Hamido Restaurant - Large Chicken Shawarma Salad - Lebanese Near Me - Dearborn, Michigan

Extremely nice people. Okay food. Don't misunderstand me: nothing I ordered was bad. Nothing. But, as I watched my gal pal experience heights of culinary bliss, I journeyed on an amicable one-and-done date. I appreciated the ample pita, pickles and Pepsi products (and opportunity for alliteration). We began our meal with baba ghanouj and falafel. The starters were fan-tastic! The baba ghanouj was packed with flavor. Sometimes baba ghanouj just tastes 'cold' and you have to imagine the eggplant flavor. Not true here. The spread was fresh, fragrant and delicious. Likewise, the falafel was piping hot, super fresh and appropriately textured. Sometimes you order falafel and you receive these hard, green balls that are depressing. Both of the appetizers hit every note and sipping on a cool, refreshing Pepsi made it even better. Now, I don't know whether it was the proximity to Canada, but somehow Drake possessed me and I thought I was fancy. So, rather than going with my old standby (chicken schwarma), I ordered the Ghalaya Chicken with rice. Maybe it wasn't to my taste, but while it was okay, it wasn't transcendent (which, after the apps, was the course we were on). The rice was perfect. I'm glad that I was talked into ordering the rice by our very charming waitress. The actual dish, however, was pretty greasy. I could taste what I should have been experiencing but for every hint of the real deal, my mouth was awash in oil. It put a damper on what, I imagine, is a standout dish. It's important to note, however, the portions are huge and the prices are fair. Don't try to eat everything in one sitting. You have enough food for a couple of meals. Enjoy it. Given the way my meal started and the fact that the chicken schwarma put my gal pal into the 'When Harry Met Sally' zone, I think the prep for that particular dish was a one off and if I were to ever return to Hamido, my star rating would surely go up. read more

Big Ups to fellow yelpers!!! I never would have found this place without you. Hamido's is absolutely the BEST Middle Eastern food I've had in Detroit. No surprise, it being located in Dearborn, where signs are in Arabic, not English... I split the 2 person special including: Hummous, Fatoosh, Lamb and Chicken Schwarma, Lamb and Chicken Kafta and rice. What a feast! If this were my last meal, I'd have died happy. There wasn't a single bad thing. All of the meat was cooked to absolute perfection. I don't think I've tasted better chicken. It was so juicy and flavorful. My favorite part: the Heaven sauce as I called it. We asked the waitress what it was made of and she told us: Garlic and Mayonnaise. It was light and fluffy and just absolutely my favorite part of the whole meal. Even the Fattoosh was full of great flavors, small hints of mint and with the cruncy pita chips, big chunks of tomato and cucumber. So fresh tasting and a great start to one of the best meals I've had in a very long time. And the Hummous was the consistency that I love, soft whipped and fluffy. Goldilocks would have flipped her lid, talking about everything being "just right." The best part? Leftovers! I have a fridge stacked with leftovers and we pigged out! The total was 26 dollars for 2 people to feast on this food that I would have easily paid twice as much for. I am a believer, as of last night, I am setting up my shrine to Hamido. And let me tell you folks, worship never tasted so good. read more

Hamido Restaurant - Lebanese Near Me - Dearborn, Michigan

Supposedly Dearborn has a higher percentage of residents of Arab descent than any city in the United States and maybe of any city outside the Middle East. This means there are more Middle Eastern restaurants than you can shake a stick at and much competition for your Middle-Eastern-food dollar. Accordingly, you get a seemingly impossible place like Hamido, serving up gargantuan platters of delicious food for what seems like a song. For 33 dollars, we got the Hamido "Special Plate" for "three." It was a served in a platter that was about the size of a small rowboat and was piled high with chicken and lamb kebabs, chicken and beef shawarma, felafel, grape leaves, kofte, and rice. Before that massive pile of goodness arrived, we had a big salad bowl and big servings of hummus and pickles. So "three," my foot: This 33-dollar repast could have easily satisfied five or six people of normal appetites. And the quality was high. All of items listed above were at least above-average and fresh-tasting, and the chicken kebab, the kofte, the grape leaves, and felafel were especially terrific. Our only complaints were that the lamb was a little tough (albeit still flavorful and apparently cooked medium), the beef shawarma was a little on the bland side, and the (unheated) pita in the little plastic sandwich baggies on the table was kind of floppy and disappointing. One other gripe that, for all I know, probably applies to just about every Middle Eastern restaurant in Dearborn: It'd be cool to be able to have a glass or two of wine with this food. Our town of Cincinnati is one sad-sack Middle Eastern food town. The closest place in quality to this down there is a bit more upscale and would probably charge about seventy or eighty bucks for this quantity of the same food. Other tables at Hamido seemed to be big on ordering half chickens, which looked delicious and seem to be a Hamido specialty. Hamdio is described in other reviews as a bit of a Middle Eastern greasy spoon, and that's probably apt. Service was efficient if a bit perfunctory, but that's about what you expect from a diner operated by any ethnic group. The little restaurant is housed in what looks like it was once a pancake house. 4.75 stars for excellent food and stupendous value. That's five on Yelp. read more

Jake and I were already familiar with the location on Ford Road, but decided to give the mothership a visit. We were seated quickly with a nice view into their kitchen. I fantasized about those rotating spits of chicken while waiting for our waitress... We ordered a couple chicken shawarma with extra garlic sauce, plus a fattoush salad. Everything came out just a few minutes later and was hot and fresh. Service wasn't anything special but it was adequate. The atmosphere is more like classy diner... not quite a dive, but not super fancy either. Hamido is a nice place to stop for a quick lunch or dinner. read more

OH. YEAH. Never had Middle Eastern food, and I"m actually sorry that I lost my ME virginity to this place since it's now the standard I hold other places to. On the outside, it doesn't look like much. Very unassuming. It's reminiscent to American Mom & Pop Diners. Our waitress was super nice, and never seemed to intrude. Anyways, on to the food! The Swarma (Idk if that's how you spell it) is super good. It's either chicken or beef? (Well it just says meat but I'll assume it's beef). The meat has just the right portion of meat to fat that makes it juicy and delicious. I found the meat to be better than the chicken though, because the chicken seemed a *tad drier. The salad we had was really good, and the hummus was off the charts. It's hard to describe a good flavor you know, you just have to try it. Don't be fooled by how it looks. It's cheap, delicious, and hearty. Plus it's really healthy, so I didn't feel guilty about over-eating (like I usually do). I just wish it wasn't so far away. Plus this place serves bottled water instead of water in a plastic cup or glass. Odd, but more sanitary I guess. I also added some photography, for your viewing pleasure. read more

This place never disappoints!!!!always consistent and delicious. I definitely recommend them if your in the area

The restaurant is open for take out only and their dining room is small. I ordered a chicken shawarma sandwich, small fattoush salad (dressing on side), and falafel (half order). Every thing was fresh. The falafel is served on top of veggies and some type of sauce. The falafel was crispy and was seasoned well. The salad was tasty. The chicken shawarma was flavorful and had a nice marinade on it. Good food here. read more

Hamido is my favorite restaurant in the Dearborn area. The prices are good, the portions are huge, and the food is definitely great! I sort feel like I wasted my life going to other more highly/more reviewed places. My husband's coworker recommended this spot and said that the chicken schawarma is the best in the area but I think the rest of their menu items are solid as well. I usually get the combination for 2 to get a variety and it can definitely feed 3-4 people. The only negative thing I can think of is that they only service bottled water. read more

Good food, large portions, sometimes busy, customers are pushy and just move to the front regardless of how many people are waiting in line. Well, it's cheap and pretty good. The lentil soup is not for me - bland and tastes like it's thickened with something like... breadcrumbs? meh. Thanks Yelpers for helping me find this place. I would never have happened upon Hamido and even if I did drive by, it doesn't look like much and I would not have been inclined to stop. Great dinner. The vegetarian entree was huge and everything was delicious! I loved the fallafel - I'd say it was some of the best I have ever had. I will definitely order it on the next visit. My shish tawook entree was very good, too - I loved that you had the option of sides (rice, fries, hummus or baba). I went with the hummus which was very good & tangy. Didn't love the rice with meat in it (my vegan husband was really bummed). It was tasty enough but the meat seemed unnecessary. I do have a few complaints: * I wish they had nice bread. I am not a big fan of the store bought pitas cut into quarters that almost all middle eastern restaurants seem to serve. Boring! * Cleanliness. I could kind of ignore the dirty booths and floors. Made a pit stop in the bathroom and in all honesty it was very gross. It was a shared men's and women's bathroom, so that is a big part of the problem, but seriously clean that $h!t up - literally! That being said, the food was really, really good. I see they have another location, so maybe I will try that one next time. Oh, and our waitress was super friendly and cute, too. read more

Probably closer to a 3.5, but the service brings it up. A few friends and myself are doing a tour of middle eastern food in Dearborn (I know, quite the undertaking) and this place wound up on our list. AMBIANCE- hole in the wall. Actually, maybe a slight step above that. The place seemed like it could accommodate about 20-30 patrons. Though we were seated next to the drinks for their fridge. yeah, not fancy, but who cares as along as the food is good. SERVICE- our server was very friendly, and joked with our table which was a plus. She was comfortable with us, but not too comfortable. She also hooked it up on the garlic sauce (and sent us home with some, no extra charge)- how can you not love that. MENU- if you've ever eaten at a middle eastern restaurant in Dearborn, then you know what to expect. If you haven't, I am so sorry for you. Typical fare can be found here- sandwiches, shwarmas, and shish kabobs (oh my). FOOD- my friends and I each have our certain dish we compare against all the other joints in the area. I got the shwarma, and was happy with the selection. It wasn't the best I've ever had, but was certainly tasty. My one friend thought the falafel was just "ok," while my other friend enjoyed the shish kafta. Portion sizes were nice for the price. OVERALL- certainly good, but I don't think I can say it's the best. With such a large variety of Middle Eastern in Dearborn, this place keeps pace with all the other joints in the area. If you are wanting Middle Eastern, this place does not disappoint. Celebrity Rating- Matt Stafford read more
