Dined here on a Monday night and it was very busy. I understand why. I ordered the Lamb Ribs. Yes. Never had before and these were great. Not to heavy and the dry rub was perfect. Not overpowering and the meat was able to be the star of the dish. I also ordered a side of the Broccolini. It was also very good. They gave me an order of pita bread with the garlic sauce. Garlic Sauce was a 10/10. The pita bread was just okay. It was very hot and fresh however it tasted like the flour it was rolled in. If you have ever been to Palm Palace ( I am dating myself), the pita bread tasted like soft pillows of dough heaven. Overall I give Leila Staff was great and the ambiance is very nice. Stopped in for dinner and was very pleased with the whole experience. Made a reservation (maybe not necessary) but it filled up so I would recommend. Cool spot that they have. Kitchen is an open concept in the back right of the restaurant. Big bar in the middle and tables/booths throughout. Went with some friends, so we ordered a fair amount of food to try. We ordered the hummus with lamb, the crispy potatoes, falafel, and the mixed grill. Before getting into the food, quick shout out to our waitress. She was amazing. Very attentive without being too much. Walked us through the menu. Was patient with us. I would have gone back for that alone. The food rocked. The hummus with lamb was my friends' favorite. I thought it was very good. Ample serving as well. That goes for everything. No skimpy servings. Almost $20 for hummus with lamb seems a bit pricy but well worth it. The crispy potatoes were very good. The jalapeño added a little kick which opened up the sinuses. Would order again. The falafel was the best I've had. Perfectly fried. Very nice flavor. Could have just eaten those all night and been extremely happy. Finally, the mixed grill was great. It came with chicken, ribeye, kofta, some veggies, rice, and pita. My one complaint would be that the pita was so soggy when it came because it was under the meat and some sauces which was a little unfortunate. Still a good pita though. The chicken was good. Nothing mind blowing. Nice char. My friends really liked it, so different strokes I guess. The ribeye chunks were nice. Solid medium rare-medium cook on them. Solid marinade/seasoning. Not chewy or fatty which was a bonus cause you never know with steak. Finally, the star of the show which was the kofta. If I go back, I only need kofta as my main. I'm not a huge kofta guy but this might have converted me. Grilled to perfection. The lamb was not too overpowering which can sometimes be the case. Very good portion as well (2 big pieces). Rice and veggies were standard. Nothing special; by no means bad. Highly recommend. Can't go wrong here. Curious how similar it is to Phoenicia in Bham (need to try that). 5 big stars. read more

This place is amazing. The windows open to the outdoors overlooking the downtown streets - the incredible menu, and the excellent service are all why we love it. Loved all the items we got. We shared each appetizer and entree. I'll add pictures to show the yumminess. And the warm most hand towels after the meal add a great final touch. We had a reservation and were seated immediately; the place was not completely full so you probably do a walk in for a Friday night but it was an early dinner so I would recommend a reservation. We had the Hummus with chicken and the crispy potatoes, so flavorful and excellent appetizers. The hummus was some of the best I've had. The table also got the tawook (chicken) and the mixed grill. Next time I'll get the kebab since the steak/ribeye was soooo good. Generous portions and excellent patio location right in the middle of downtown but not close to the street. My single and only qualm was that I ordered the Baby Spice cocktail, which is listed as mezcal (I swapped for tequila), fig gin, raspberry, lime. It came as a very spicy drink. The server seemed confused when I questioned this, given the name. There is absolutely nothing listed in the ingredients that would suggest any spice, however. But anyway, beetroot and feta - delicious. The eggplant fettah - incredible. The depth of flavor and all the context in it was so good. The batata harra might have been the star of the night though. I love this restaurant so much! It is my go to for upscale Lebanese food. You really can't go wrong, but I do love the ribs, the mixed grill, the meat "cigars", the fattoush salad, the wings, and the fair floss dessert to name a handful of items. The fairy floss sundae was on the 2024 NYT list of best things we ate and is a magical combination of ice cream, rose water fairy floss and pistachios. Service is about average or average plus but the vibe is incredible and the food itself is to die for. We'd been meaning to try Leila for quite some time and decided to make a reservation for a birthday dinner. We were seated immediately upon arrival, and we were pleased to find a hand-written card for the birthday celebrant. Our server was lovely, and we were impressed with the table sweep and refresh between our salad and dinner course. That's something you don't see much of anymore. Most everything we tried was delicious- olives, fattoush salad, shish tawook, beef kebob. The olives were earthy and tender. The fattoush salad was dressed and seasoned well. The chicken was tender and not at all dry and the steak was devoured before I got to try it. Two things I didn't love - The rice was way too greasy for my personal taste, but my dining partner loved it. And I found the toum to be a little too strong, especially as a "getting older" person who then will have trouble with heartburn all night, lol. One of my top 2 favorite restaurants in the city! Have ate my way nearly through the entire menu and everything is amazing. Some of my top favorite dishes include: Baba Ghanouj, Muhammara, Chicken Wings, and the Salmon...but truly you can't go wrong ordering anything on the menu. The bread here is made fresh and delicious - careful not to fill up on the bread (it's easy to)! The cocktails here are also great. My favorite is Fresno Farewell (a mezcal forward drink). What an amazing experience at Leila's and a must when in downtown Detroit! This is a Lebanese and Mediterranean restaurant that will not disappoint. A beautiful restaurant! We were served by Abraham and he was outstanding! Aside from his amazing hospitality skills, he had a deep knowledge of the menu and explained how everything was prepared. The Haloumi and Hummus with Hashwi were so delicious and these come in generous portions to share. I went here for someone's birthday! It had a nice ambience. The restaurant is tucked around the corner but you can always park in the garage or street parking. I think when I came here there was a wedding reception downstairs. They can store cake and cut it for you as well (with a lil charge). The food was so good and the dip was worth. I would come here again. They have a cute bar seating and good for groups as well. I would recommend family style and share your entrees. read more

It's nice to be hosted when we come to town. Aaliyah is part of the Midwest office and an authority on Lebanese cuisine. This means a phenomenal experience ahead for us! Leila is a gorgeous, stylish restaurant with a romantic ambiance that really prepares you for the authentic meal that awaits. At first I was concerned about the smaller portion size. Since we love to share, would there be enough? Aaliyah recognized this and put all fears to rest by ordering six openers. Soups and Salads. All of which were the perfect combination of texture, flavour and temperature. My vegetarian cousin will love this place. My new found favourite is Beetroot & Feta. Priceless. For those in the know, Leila puts a unique spin on some of the more common Lebanese dishes. All I can say is they were all delicious and I could easily see myself here a lot. The servers and staff were wonderful and provided top-notch service. Of course I didn't get a look at the final bill and it's extremely inappropriate to ask, but I don't think the costs are terribly out of line. It truly was a memorable experience. Randomly chose this, and I'm glad I did - it turned out to be a great experience. Sat at the bar and ordered four mezzes and some wine. The service was welcoming and attentive. Started with the grape leaves - they were too cold, otherwise well done, not too mushy or stringy. Next were the falafel, which were large balls that came with some lightly pickled cauliflower and jalapeno slices in a tahini-yogurt-y type sauce. The falafel had an interesting flavor, the cauliflower was perfect, and it was a substantial dish. The sujuk Armenian sausage was zesty and served in a light tomato stew. The haloumi, which was rather expensive at $23 for fried cheese, was nonetheless tasty and in the end worth the price; the pomegranates provided a nice texture, juice and sweetness contrast. Every time a friend comes and visits, I take them to Leila. It's always excelled in service and expectations. The food is delicious and you genuinely cannot go wrong with anything you order. My favorite is the ribs and the garlic confit and those are the two things I ALWAYS order for the table. The restaurant is always busy but well designed. Finally visited Leila after having it on my list for a while, and though I had a decent overall experience, there were definitely a few misses. The place is beautiful. Love the bar lighting and the huge, wall-length wine cellar. Definitely feels upscale yet inviting. Food was mostly good. My wife and I split the Shish Tawook, Shish Kebab, and lentil soup. The chicken and steak dishes were delicious, though tbh a bit overpriced (there's so much great Mediterranean food around for less). The soup was disappointing... watery and lacking flavor (could've improved with a bit of lemon and salt, but neither were on the table nor offered). As a certified wine nerd, one of the things that made me want to try this place was its wine list. However, our server knew absolutely nothing about wine -- he seemed genuinely confused by simple questions, and when I ordered a bottle, he had no idea what I was asking for so he had me point on the list and then he TOOK OUR WINE LIST so he could go find the wine, then never brought it back. A bit nitpicky, but he was also not great at pouring and kept spilling a bit on the sides of the glass and bottle. There's also one glaring mistake -- a bottle from a very famous producer is mislabeled as the top wine from that producer, when it is in fact the second label they make. I asked the server if there was a Somm there so I could point it out, but apparently no one who knew wine was around... on a Friday night! So weird for a place with a solid list. Otherwise, the server was friendly enough, albeit a bit slow to come back to take our food orders after the wine ordeal. Food came out quickly, though, so the kitchen was moving. I'd consider coming back as I did enjoy the vibe, most of the food, and the wine list (even if no one seems to know anything about it), but it's nowhere near the top of my list. read more

For drinks we tried the Anne Hathaway, Lebanita, and Secret Garden, all of which were delicious. Standouts for me were the crispy potatoes and Lebanese sundae, both so tasty. We had one dish that was incorrect but that was easily taken care of. Oh Detroit! Detroit reminds me of an ex-partner who no longer wants to maintain a friendship (and sometimes that's a good thing). Dinned with my parents over the Holiday season. The food was awesome. We started with the lentil soup, which was an awesome purée of goodness. Next we ordered the Baba ghanoush appetizer which was pure perfection, we had to order it twice. The item includes pomegranate seeds-and my mom can't digest seeds (the seeds are not captured in the menu ingredients, a flaw in the item description). But our server, Christian, was awesome and quickly adjusted and sent out another order. My parents ordered the salmon as an entree and enjoyed it (they said the sweetness embedded was unusual and unique which made it memorable and tasty). Under Christian's recommendation I ordered the cauliflower over the broccoli and I'm glad that I took his suggestion. I also ordered The potatoes which were too salty , I should have ordered the fries. The bread was soft and fresh. What we didn't enjoy and was a buzz killer: The ambiance sucked, it was too dark inside, on top of it being dark outside due to winter. I was expecting more energy from the restaurant manager and the hostess staff-they were as dead as a doorknob...not friendly. I wanted our experience to be more inviting like BESA. Would I return, probably not! But I recommend that this restaurant be tried at least once. read more

Leila is a wonderful upscale Middle Eastern restaurant. I recommend coming here with a group to try the many cold and hot "mezze" or appetizers on the menu. Everything we ordered was delicious: the Confit Garlic, Butata Harra, Eggplant Fettah, Labneh, and the Beetroot & Feta. Many of the dishes are vegetarian. There was a vegetarian in our group and we were able to order meat dishes with the meat on the side. Even though the restaurant was bustling the service was good. The only issue was that it took them a long time to bring out another basket of pita bread. I want to return to try more dishes and maybe an entree if I don't get full from the mezze first. read more

This place is one heck of a hard place to get reservations to. But MY GOD, it's so worth it. Parking: There's some street parking right in front of the restaurant (if you get lucky) otherwise it's pretty difficult to find street parking if you don't want to pay. My husband and I don't like the hassle of going around the neighborhood to find parking so we just parked in the parking garage for $5 about a block away. Less than 1/2 mile. So it was easy for us. Ambiance: Omg. From the moment you want into the restaurant, to your table, and even to the restroom. I was just in awe of the place, beautifully done like all the other CH Group restaurants. Food: I honestly didn't think I would like this place as much as I did, but I already want to go back and try everything else! For bread my husband and I got the garlic bread with the shallot yogurt and garlic oil to start. It was so yummy! For our entire we shared the salmon kabob and saffron rice. First time to Leila. We stopped in for dinner prior to a concert. We were two couples. I will get right to the nitty gritty. Amazing food. Beet salad, Fatoosh salad, and Sanjuk app. I can't forget my fav app Batata Harra (hot potato). The potato app was the best I've ever had. Crispy on the outside and soft in the middle. Wow wow wow! Beautiful Lebanese restaurant with a lovely ambiance and a shaded outdoor patio in Capitol Park. Incredible food! I absolutely loved my Mjaddara, a spicy salad with lentils. It's the most delicious salad I've had in a long time. I loved the fresh jalapeños and dressing, and the sauce that the lentils were cooked in. Such a perfectly balanced dish and plated beautifully too. My friend let me try some of his Mixed Grill dish and the meats were cooked perfectly. So flavorful and tender. Fresh, warm pita bread was a perfect accompaniment to our entrees. For dessert, the pistachio cheesecake blew my kind. Homemade cardamom graham cracker crust, and a raspberry rose whip on top. I visited Leila for a celebration with family and friends. We had reservations and I highly recommend everyone reserve a table and factor in parking in your reservation time. Being in Capital Park just park in a lot. Don't even try to find a spot on the street. Leila is nice and not "nice for Mediterranean food". Just stunning. For me I would only return on special occasions because I would feel underdressed if I tried to come here without a reservation just being in every day clothes.
