Was in the area and heard great things about Yemen cafe. There was street parking available close to the restaurant. The restaurant is quite large with diner booths and tables, but was mostly empty on a Friday around lunchtime. A few people came in for takeout. The employees were very attentive and helpful, asking if it was my first time here - recommended me a few dishes and offered free hot tea while I waited for food. I decided to go with the lamb haneeth and the knafeh for my friend and I to share (we weren't super hungry). Everything was wonderful - the soup was very comforting and savory, the lamb was tender, the rice was pillowy, the tea was nicely spiced and sweet, and the knafeh was crunchy, sweet, salty, and chewy!

Some friends told me about this spot and made a quick trip to see what it was about. It was a casual and laid-back atmosphere. You can place take out or dine-in. The food was delicious food. We ordered the honey bread which was mouthwatering. I wanted the whole thing to myself. It was the perfect amount of sweetness. The service was a little slow but I'm sure it was due to the fact it was lunchtime Friday afternoon. Everything I tried was delicious and well-seasoned, especially the Gallaba with Shrimp. They also give you tea with your meal which was nice palette cleanser. I will definitely go back and try more.

Having never had Yemeni food, I was intrigued at the possibility of trying it while visiting Detroit. Dining at the Yemen Cafe opened the door to a new flavor filled world of aromatic spices. Each dish ordered was a great as the next. Meats were tender and the chicken was juicy and tender and all had multi-layers of flavor. The food was fresh, portions were generous enough for a second meal, and the service was friendly. It doesn't get better than this!

First time ever trying Yemen food and omg, it was DELICIOUS! We got the Yemen Cafe Platter for 2 and everything from the rice, the lamb haneeth, chicken, hummus, all of it was a 10/10. My favorite was the Lamb Stew!! I'll be dreaming about it for weeks to come. There was so much food we left with multiple takeout boxes and it could easily feed 3-4 people honestly. We will definitely be making the drive from Toledo again to come eat here. Bonus: the kids park right next door was incredibly nice and updated, our son loved it after we had lunch!

Fantastic Yemeni food! Fresh, flavorful and so delicious. Large portions for your $ too. It's not the fanciest inside but it doesn't really matter. Special love for their Yemeni bread with honey butter, do yourself a favor and order it! Food: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Atmosphere: 4/5 Value: 5/5

Everytime I come here to eat, I leave so happy and full of yummy food. The restaurant is able to accommodate larger groups when you are at a late night meal. I've been in during the day for lunch before the pandemic and had not problem with a group of 6. Most recently, I've come in with 7 or 9 others and been treated exceptionally. They are able to accommodate separate checks when handling large groups. The garlic sauce and Yemeni bread is amazing. I'm actually quite happy that I love far away (like 30 minutes) because all the food is awesome. The waiters that have helped us have been able to provide suggestions on what to order. And they have been able to explain the menu options very helpfully in order to make our selections easy. I will definitely be back the next time in the area.

I can't believe the amount of food you get, definitely get your money's worth here. lots of fat to pick through on the lamb, but that is what gives it all it's flavor and makes it fall off the bone. The service was very slow, but our server was nice and accommodating. The tables and floors were sticky, which is a pet peeve of mine, and I dislike their napkins, and napkin dispensers, at the table very much. The napkins were thin like facial tissue, and the dispensers were covered in finger prints, which grossed me out.

This place is definitely doing something right by staying open past everyone else especially on a Sunday. What a great business move and support to its community. The food didn't disappoint either. We were really happy with the chicken and rice. It had great flavor and not dry for being grilled. This little spot is great for post anything especially after the Schvitz. They are open till 1am. It's not fancy but the food is YUMMY and definitely worth a try. If any pointers I would give to the establishment, it would be to adjust the oil quality on the salad. It was too heavy and not olive oil. Hope to visit again! Also, a few options were gluten free but you have to ask server. The lamb soup was NOT gluten free. They do add flour.

We were hungry and decided to head to Hamtramck to find a spot. We stumbled upon Yemen Cafe and found a gem! The food is sooooo good. We ordered the Foul (Mashed Fava Beans), Fahsah Lamb, Shish Tawook, Mango Juice, lamb chops, and the rashoosh bread. When I tell you we smashed....it's an understatement. Food was delicious! We've been thrice since being there the first time. The service was decent. It wasn't the most amazing service and the wait wasn't too bad but it's so worth it.

service 4/4 you gotta walk on in all the way to the back by the open kotchen to be greeted and seated. drinks you can grab yourself (theyll bill you or you can ask with your order. ambiance 2.5/5 we cane arpund 6pm, most of the tables were not ready for seating.. and the table we sat at was not wiped properly. serving plates/utensils came out a bit greasy on the handles - they were replaced immediately w.care. overall, the food is a solid 5/5 authentic & delicious! bold flavours and spices of the middle east blends so well in their stews and gyros! we recommend the yemen bread & honey butter! its their house made pita/naan-like bread with a really great chew, brushed with a buttery honey sauce! though id get the honey butter ots to dip next time. the bread is huge (~2-3 ppl) so order other dishes and you can dip it too! we also got their gyro rice plate (comes w.a pinch of lettuce/onions/diced tomatoes). the rice has a strong cumin taste - we loved it! wished there was more ;) we also got the fahsah (its a chunky stew w.choice protein of chicken, tuna or lamb), and we enjoyed it with the rice and bread! would definitely come back here!

Even better, Star is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, which has become a rare and precious thing now that COVID has flung our dining options back by 25 years. (Star had more limited hours when they first opened and were ramping up, but are now at full 24/7 operation.) I stopped by with two friends late on a Saturday night after celebrating's a friend's birthday down the street in Hamtramck. Star's parking lot was brightly lit and is near a high-traffic intersection (Conant & Davison), and the lobby/dining room inside is also brightly lit even late at night. They have a big and diverse menu, even compared to most other coneys. You'll find most of the expected standards here -- breakfast plates, omelettes, and sandwiches; burgers and hot sandwiches; coney dogs; fried appetizers. But there's also quite a few dishes not found at other coneys: chicken wings; burgers, hot dogs, and chicken sandwiches made with naga pepper sauce; chicken tikka sandwiches; but perhaps best of them all are five different kinds of egg rolls, which are large and well-stuffed. I had loaded hashbrowns, chicken tikka egg rolls, and a naga dog. My tablemates had Philly steak egg rolls, a burger, and a breakfast sandwich. We were all happy with everything we got, and I'll gladly go back again even when it's not a post-bar stop. Glad to have you in the neighborhood, Star!

I also asked the waitress which dish is the most popular and they told me the Samaki is their #1 seller. I tired half/half on the rice on my first visit, this visit I went with spiced rice pilau only. I'm not a fan of coconuts, while the coconut rice doesn't have a overpowering coconut flavor, spiced rice will be my to go moving forward. Nyumbani, while decent, the meat was bit under seasoned to my taste. Kuku was the better over Kuhuhana. Mbuzi - the goat shank was lukewarm when we got it, it was bit hard to break the meat off the bone, but worth trying at least once. Service was superb on both visits, water bottle gets refilled w/o asking, and great experience. While I won't be able to make it out often, definitely will be on my list of places to revisit while in Detroit area.
