I This place is something special. It feels like eating in Lebanon. Everyone who comes in to speak in Arabic and it's very family oriented you think you're back home. I love that you definitely have to have their pies. Their zaatar is something special.

Hole in the wall bakery that dishes out great pies. We tried turkey w/ cheese, plain cheese and of course their namesake zaatar with cheese. Among these zaatar was our least favorite but still pretty good. Honestly I would have loved a bit more zaatar as the cheese mellowed its flavor. Maybe next time i will try plain zaatar

I would have to say this is now my favorite breakfast spot. Authentic middle eastern breakfast prepared to perfection every time. Reminds me of my visits with my grandfather when I was younger, taste exactly like the restaurants in Lebanon. Thumbs up!

Tasty food and friendly staff! I recommend! I had the pita with veggies on it (kind of a special order) and it was great.

Al Fawwal - Fatteh Bil Laban w/ Ras Aasfour

Al Fawwal is a new Lebanese breakfast restaurant that opened up a couple of months ago on…read moreGreenfield Rd. We saw the signs going up late last year and only recently had a chance to drop by. It's always nice to see another place that specializes in breakfast/brunch! We stopped in close to noon and found a small shop with around 8 booths worth of seating. There were only two tables with customers at the time but a couple more groups trickled in later. Service is super friendly here - we sat down, ordered and our food came out pretty quickly. Hummus Bil Tahina ($7) - Nice creamy hummus, fresh tasting. The hummus here is a bit heavier on the tahini vs. some other places. This is topped with fresh tender, piping hot and steaming chickpeas, and a nice fresh olive oil that's just the slightest bit peppery. The olive oil here tastes much fresher than most other restaurants around the area. Fatteh Bil Laban w/ Ras Aasfour ($14) - I totally misjudged what ras aasfour is - when I googled this before going in, I thought it was going to be Lebanese-style mini ground beef meatball stew, but this turned out to be straight pan fried lamb. The construction is essentially a layer of super tender chickpeas, topped with fried pita chips, a garlicky and tangy yogurt, then a very gamey lamb flavored oil (the oil they use to fry the lamb), and finally toasted slivered almonds and the aforementioned ras asfour. While I don't usually like lamb, the meat was actually not gamey at all and I honestly thought it was beef at first. It wasn't until I dipped into the rest of the bowl that I found that the oil drizzled on top is super gamey and the taste permeates everything underneath. If you like lamb, you will love this dish. All the ingredients used in this fatteh are on the liquidy side, so the pita chips get very soaked and lose their crunch. Batata Harra ($7) - These potatoes were undercooked. We heard the chef frying everything up, but I guess they still weren't cooked long enough? The insides were not fluffy and instead were on the hard side. The exterior had no crisp whatsoever. The potatoes were tossed with red pepper flakes, adding a bit of spice, and fresh cilantro and garlic, giving an herbal pungency. I also found a bit of acidity possibly from the addition of lemon juice. As with a classic Lebanese breakfast, you get pita and a plate of fresh veggies and pickles to eat everything with. The pita is standard commercial pita probably from a local bakery. Another patron was asking about bread and the waitress said the oven was down, so maybe they usually have fresh pita? The veggies included sliced tomatoes, cucumber pickles, turnip pickles, fresh radish, onion, mint, and even some Lebanese green olives. Yum! A very nice accompaniment. On the table are the usual salt, pepper, sugar, and olive oil, as well as a bottle of pomegranate molasses. We asked the waitress and she said that people enjoy drizzling it on liver and on baba ghanoush. As a side note, this is one of the few restaurants around the area that serves complimentary bottled water. Most other places charge a dollar or two per bottle. The Lebanese breakfast classics at Al Fawwal are pretty good. It's a good choice if you want to expand your breakfast repertoire.

Carry-out Mediterranean salad. Tl;dr; $20, bland but fresh,…read moreskip the pita. The blandest Mediterranean salad in west dearborn? Ok, maybe not the blandest, just really meh. For $20 otd? You decide... First of all, it's next to a brewery. (Ordering from their website, you'd think the parking lot would be lit -- in at least two ways -- but it's next to a brewery Nice brewery and all, but Bistro seems a bit out of place... not the brewery.) Pickup was seemless. Anyhow, the lettuce seemed fresh, and there was some dark lettuce in there too. The chicken was very moist... and not much evidence of grilling. Not bad, tho, if you're hungry -- it was all right. Probly perfect for some. The dressing is something that we think could turn an otherwise decent salad into 4-5 stars... what they've got going on today, their "creamy Parmesan vinaigrette" is... well, it's just creamy. Maybe there's parmesan flavoring in it? It's OK, just very bland. Maybe their loyal clientele love it! Finally, to top it off, literally: "grilled pesto pita". You get one of these little slices hot of the grill and they might be edible. Beyond two minutes?... they turned into tiny triangular pucks. Seemed like a small pita to begin with too. Overall, decent. Not bad, definitely not great... which is too bad, we really want to love this place!
