First couple of times when I went to Al Chabab, it was fine. It offer unique Syria dish that you don't get in other Arabic restaurants in Dearborn. Then something change or I went to a bad day. The mulukhiyah stew has no meat in it, just jute leaves. Then we got a chicken shawarma wrap and it was pretty standard. Then the rice with my Kafta is kinda lukewarm. A definite go-to anytime we're in the Dearborn area. Today was just in time for lunch. The combo for two costs around $40 and you get 2 shish kabob, 2 shish tawook, 2 kafta, fattoush salad, and rice. A bit too much for us, but we box the leftovers for later. Everything mentioned tastes terrific. I can also vouch for the hummus and the falafel. If you're feeling daring and adventurous, try the tongue fatteh. The flavours are rich and fresh. Tastes just like Sundays growing up back home. One of the best meals I've had in years! Not being versed in Syrian food we ordered the Meal for Two. It would have fed 4 people with no problem. The salad was fantastic, the rice fluffy and tasty but the stars of the show were the meats. All were super hot right off the fire and cooked to perfection spiced wonderfully. I feel sad we live 150 miles away else I'd be here at least a couple of times a month. The service was friendly even with a language barrier and the price was crazy low. $40 for the Dinner for Two is a super bargain. Oh, do be aware that the atmosphere is pretty much old school family restaurant so you aren't paying for a fine dining experience which is OK by me. This place is sooooo good. As I write this review, I wish I could be eating at Al Chabab right now. It's a small, clean, no frills Syrian restaurant. There is free lot and street parking in the area. The couple that were working when I ate here (and I'm guessing they probably own the restaurant) were super friendly and really seemed to care that we were enjoying the food. Their fattoush salad is probably the best I've ever had. Everything I had was amazing. I want to come back and try more. I saw some guys order the sheep's head. It looked interesting and very tasty, and the two guys scarfed all of it down in minutes. There's even a picture of the chef with the sheep's head dish on the front of the restaurant. Al Chabab is my favorite Middle Eastern restaurant I've been to locally. The fattoush salad that came with my entree was tasty, and I'm not one to rave about salads. The garlic cream sauce was to die for, and the hummus was some of the best I've had at a restaurant. My favorite dish though is the Al-Chabab cherry kabob. I've never had anything like it. Dearborn has a plethora of notable restaurants, but this one needs to get more love. It's truly a hidden gem, and a must do for any Middle Eastern food lovers. P.S. I still say "get the cherry kabob!!" We got the cherry kabob, which comes with salad and rice, along with an order of meat pies and it was more than enough food for two people. We also got the spicy Syrian hummus which was delicious as usual. The owners are very nice and food arrives very quickly. It's a small place with 3-4 tables for dining in, but I think most of their business is carryout. I always recommend this place and the cherry kabobs to anyone who is going to Dearborn. read more

I had been craving mansaf for ages, was visiting the area from Los Angeles. Their mansaf was fire. Il be back here. Huge portion too!

While we eat Middle Eastern food almost weekly, it's typically Lebanese or occasionally Iraqi. This was our first time having Syrian. While the dishes had similar names, the spices and flavors were unique and different than we are accustomed to. Overall we really enjoyed the food. The hummus was thick and choppy versus the smooth texture I'm familiar with. We are still trying to decide if there was a different ingredient behind chickpeas. Turns out my husband asked and it was a mix -- eggplant/chickpeas. We would've preferred it without the added olive oil on top. The fatoosh was tasty and we loved the pita and the dressing, but it was drenched so less would've also been better. If we came again, I'd ask for less oil and less dressing. The chicken shawarma was tasty. And my husband loved his shish kebab which had a pepper sauce. We are glad we tried this place. A new adventure. read more

This restaurant is perfect. I brought my friend here because he had never had Syrian food before. He thought is was so flavorful and some of the best food he's had in Michigan. It's a little upsetting because now when my family cooks a meal for him, it'll never be as good as this. If I lived closer, I would eat here every week. The staff is really sweet and helpful with the menu. We got the kebab combo for 2, hummus, fattoush, and jallab. I had never had jallab before and it was so so delicious. This place was on my check list after seeing pics of a dish called Pacha(Lamb Head Dish).Not a very adventurous eater but wanted to try this once. Me and a friend reached around 1.30 pm. 2 groups of people were there.we chose our table with in whatever little distance we can maintain from them Ordered Pacha, spicy Bread, Chicken Ghallaba and Coke which costed us $35. Pacha was good but not really my kind of food. I was expecting a lot of flavor but it really lacked any. The ratings drew us in. The service was lacking, ambiance as expected. The meat kabobs were dry and poorly cooked. The raw kibbeh was very oily and had an unusual pasty texture, not minced. The cherry bomb was underwhelming and overpriced. Think little grilled skewers of meat dipped in cherry jam. The fattoush was nice and fresh. The hummus was meh. OMG. Wow. Wow. Wow. I'm at a loss for words. The flavored are absolutely amazing. Disclaimer: I was starving before I ate. I just got delivery from here. I ordered the baba gannoush and Kabob Khash Kash (basically a spicy kafta) with rice and fattoush. Like others say this is Syrian which is different from Lebanese. There is food that "looks" similar but tastes different. For instance, the baba tastes and looks creamier. I really liked it! The fattoush does taste different but I also really liked it. The rice has meat and what tastes like cinnamon cooked into it. So delicious! And the meat was charred and so so so tasty. It came with this spicy pita bread with parsley. I wasn't expecting that so this was a nice surprise. Like others said, I wish they had descriptions of the items on their menu because I had to google a ton but at some point I got tired of doing that. And I had to call them to confirm what I was getting is like kafta. I literally just told all my friends and family how excellent this place is. I can't wait to eat here again. Yes, I'm a fan of the restaurant and the owner himself. If you've never had Syrian food before, I suggest coming here to give it a shot. It was my first time but it was a great one. It's a mom n' pop shop just like all the others and the food here is freshly cooked and made from scratch. I was sipping coffee at Qahwah house and my favorite barista there had recommended me to order their sheep head! I had to! I came and ordered a freshly boiled sheep head for the price of only $13?! This was outrageous! The owner prepared it and served it on this big platter with pickles and bread on the side. If you ate the meat and parts of the sheep, it would've been just plain and nothing tasty but when you lightly salt it and request for hot sauce, then you're really talking. The cheeks were my favorite part then came the brain (DO NOT TRY IF YOU DON'T LIKE TEXTURED FOOD). I was taking the pita bread and just scooping the meat and pairing it with pickles which would mask the bland/musty taste. The owner is super nice and he's great with making sure you're doing just fine. Syrian food is similar to all the Mediterranean dishes but I'd say they don't like to marinade or spice up their dishes with flavor. Went for lunch on a Tuesday and were seated quickly as the restaurant was empty. Lowkey homey restaurant serving delicious Syrian food. I enjoyed everything we ordered. Hommus Halabi, Spicy Potatoes, and various Pita Sandwiches - tawook, kafta, and meat shawarma. When they say spicy, they mean spicy -- the spicy potatoes were HOT. The hommus was some of the best I've had -- I love the pepper oil/seasoning used. Kafta was cooked perfectly and seasoned well. Not your typical middle eastern restaurant. The flavors are familiar but better. Highly recommend. Will def be back to try more things on the menu. Only wish they put explanations next to the items on the menu! read more

2.5 stars I really wanted to like this place more but it was just good. I had Freekeh with lamb and salad and spicy bread. The bread was charred and so had a strong burnt flavor that overwhelmed the spicy spread. The salad was meh but I'll give them a pass on that because it's the middle of winter and hard to get good produce this time of year. The lamb dish on wheat was tasty but it was greasy and some of the lamb pieces were dried out and tough. I went here because of all the reviews saying this place is slightly different and better than most of the Lebanese places around and while it may have been a little different it was definitely not better at least based on this experience. read more

This place deserves a mention because it's one of the few where you can find authentic homemade dishes that are not available in most restaurants. Some of my favorite Middle Eastern dishes, including molokhiyeh (a stew made from leaves cooked with chicken), mansaf (traditional Jordanian dish made of dehydrated dairy and tender beef or lamb cooked till tender), shakriyeh (a cooked yoghurt stew). All of which were good. They also serve specialty dishes I can't bring myself to eat but are quite popular in the Middle East and need extra special prepwork - a sheep's head, stuffed intestines, or sheep testicles (you can skip those if you're like me and not very adventurous). The fact that they even serve these tells you this is a place that is truly Middle Eastern and family run. Each dish is between 15- 20$, which I think is quite average in price range for this cuisine with good portions. Today, we had the mixed grill, which comes with a variety of pita bread and a spicy paste that was delicious. The char is something I can do without. I know what a mixed grill tastes like back in the Middle East, so taking away a star. The place loses another star for the aesthetic, I believe you can still look good while remaining traditional, and this place does not pull that off well. read more

A couple signature plates stand out, Muhammara is a nutritious dip originating from the Syrian city of Aleppo. It is made with a combination of roasted red peppers, olive oil, and ground walnuts. The peppers give the dish a particular sweetness and smoky flavor, while ground walnuts make it texturally exciting. Finally WOWED Lamb Fattah a breakfast dish they have 9 to offer plated up all day long. The king of Aleppo breakfast Lamb Fatteh is a bread based dish usually served at breakfast. The bread is broken up into pieces (where the word Fattah comes from) and toasted or fried. It is then covered with a yoghurt based sauce and combined wither with chickpeas and Lamb topped with unique spices a mind blowing dish you must have. We've been 6 times the owner and wife run the show he tells me he lost 80 percent of his business Corona crisis. With 2000 Syrian refugees around Metro DETROIT since 2015 this be the main dining area for automatic meals from home. Our local newspapers and magazines have overlooked long enough. She just said cherry kabob is good so i got that in stead of continuing to ask. The meat was good the pita was good the cherry sauce was tasty but was too sweet for my pallet. The salad was the bomb though. The environment is very local feeling, diner-ish as far as comfort. there was a large family there with several small children which made it feel like a loud crazy thanksgiving. We loved this place. The food was delicious, the salad very light and fresh, the humus smooth and rich. All the meats were very flavorful, maybe the lamb was my favorite. The falafel was crunchier than I'm used to, but with the garlic sauce very good. Ordered the platter for 4-5 (for 5 people) and we ended up leaving with 4 containers of leftovers. The hummus is spicy, has a good kick and a hint of sundried tomato, later learned it's red pepper. The crushed lentil tastes good with the fresh lemon, a bit on the runny side for me though, but still tastes good. The Spicy bread tasted really good, had a nice crunch of the pita, a bit of a bite from the spicy mohamara halabi sauce. It is what the owner manager would call the mohamara halabi Spicy bread. The fatoosh is fresh and tasty. Found a few red cabbage pieces that were a bit old and had brown spots on them. The dressing is a bit different in taste, it has some brown vinegar, not red wine base to it. It gets to be too tart to me. I wasn't able to finish the small salad after all. Next time I would order the dressing on the side. The owner said it's Syrian dressing and spices that gives the dressing it's flavors. My friend liked his tawook sandwich and said the seasoning in it tasted so good, very different from what he's had before. All the food here is really good. I would definitely come back again.
