We ordered a fattoush salad and hummus to start. Both were very good. I was a little annoyed that our drinks didn't come right away. It's like he wanted to make as little trips as possible. Regardless, the fattoush and hummus were good. We then order a shish kafta sandwich and a shish tawook sandwich on French bread. Both sandwiches were really good, with a nice amount of garlic sauce on sandwiches. The food definitely made up for the lackadaisical waiter we had. Literally no one here but us. A friend recommended this restaurant for having good food and I stopped in after errands and very hungry. Ample parking in paved lot, decor inside standard Mediterranean style but 3 big colored glass light fixtures in center of dining area over a long table able to handle a party of 20 or several parties of 2-4. Perimeter walls have cozy booths for 4-5 and larger corner booths for 6-8. I wanted vegetables, meat, soup and decided upon the Yogurt Cucumber salad, crushed lentil soup and Super Schwarma sandwich (beef and chicken) unsweetened ice tea. The young man who took my order was polite and brought out a basket of fresh pocket bread but inside a bag(?) so the steam made it a little 'wet' and I guess you have to ask for garlic because there wasn't any. The bread was good for dipping in my soup but I didn't want more than that because I got a sandwich. The lentil soup had good flavor but was lukewarm at best, I ate it because I was very hungry. The salad was tasty, yogurt had its tang which blended well with mild cucumber plus menu said it had mint and garlic. I got a hint of mint every now and then but no garlic noted? Unless it was blended with the yogurt? Shawarma sandwich was hot and tasty, but drippy/ juicy as tomatoes and sauce promptly fell out onto my shirt and down my hand with first bite. But delicious flavors and was satisfying. I wanted a take out container for my salad as I had over half left and it took some time for my server to return for me to ask for it. He also said that I can pay at register whenever I was ready when he brought it. There weren't many people dining in so he wasn't around much but he was polite. I was by myself so I had a larger table in the booth in was in, so used dinnerware had room to sit until it was cleared at end of meal. The food is great here, I've been coming here for years, I just realized that I never left a review. They never seem very busy inside, I usually see a lot of carry out orders. The service is usually slow, Mike was nice but could check on us more. We ordered a combination for 2 (not sure of the name) it featured Shish kabob, shish tawook and shish kafta. The kabob and chicken were cooked perfectly this night, the kafta was maybe a little tougher (it's normally one of the better kaftas around). The combo came with salad, hummus and rice or fries. The hummus was especially good, this time they drizzled olive oil on it and that's how I grew up eating it. The fattoush salad was really great and fresh. Beirut by night is a friend favorite so off we went for dinner. We probably weren't that daring in eating but I wanted just a straight chicken shawarma. fattoush salad which was a large size, fresh and good plus a combo platter for two was packed. Hummus with chicken and warm bread for the table was shared. My shawarma sandwich had a nice crisp bread but wasn't what I craved as the chicken was dry even with the pickles and good garlic sauce. Service was spotty and it wasn't busy but food came out quickly and you didn't have to beg for takeout containers. Lots of locals and families eat here so they're doing something right. read more

Ok so one million years ago (maybe 15??) my family and I walked into this fried chicken restaurant (Stephans?) we were regulars at and looked at the menu and it no longer had fried chicken, it had shish tawook. We didn't realize the restaurant had changed hands and turned into Beirut by Night, because they kept all the same furniture, menu books, decor -- everything. But after being seated with drinks, we had come to far so we went with it. Our accident, we hoped, would turn out okay. It was AMAZING. Our new family favorite, we went here all the time. Like weekly, if not more frequently. A few years later, they renovated. Their dining room is beautiful with incredible lamps and decor. At one point MI changed their smoking laws -- shisha had to be in the back room from now on and only at certain hours. But who cares! Grape mint shisha?! If you know, you know. Their catering is amazing. We order it for almost every large family gathering we have. Also, if you don't go to the Ramadan buffet you're missing out immensely. Like, what.the.heck. This place is the BEST!!!!! Now many moons have passed since our trip to eat fried chicken that turned out to be a shawarma hummus plate. Now, I live in upstate NY with my own family and rarely get to come to Dearborn. I recently was able to bring my husband and take him to Beirut by Night -- the one and only important thing I wanted to make sure we did while "back home." We got takeout and ate it in our RV in the parking lot. Let me tell you -- we have a few "Mediterranean" restaurants back where we live in NY, and only one Lebanese restaurant, and they all pall in comparison. Joey was IMPRESSED! A very good restaurant that serves the best food platters for two. The chicken schwarmas are excellent and tasty. The garlic is just right! The food is always fresh. The fatoush salad is first rate. This place is great. The prices are good, the menu expansive and featuring many omnivorous and herbivorous meal options, and the freshly baked bread is (as should always be the case of Middle Eastern restaurants) simply decadent. The Baba Ganoush is excellent, as well as the Veg Grape Leaves, Mjaddera, and the salads. I've been told the Garlic Sauce is wonderful (not vegan so I haven't tried it) and a number of the Chicken Dinners are apparently very delicious (again, I've obviously not had them personally). Inside is quite spacious and seems visually formal but the atmosphere is nonetheless quite relaxed. The lunch specials are very reasonable but the dinners are also well worth the price, considering the generous portions. All in all, the prices are comparable if not slightly better than La Pita (in the heart of West Downtown Dearborn), and the menu offers greater variety for sure. Most of us ordered one of the two soups: chicken lemon rice and lentil, both of which were piping hot and savory. My friend ordered the meat ghalaba and it looked amazing! The Greek salad looked large and fresh with lots of feta, and I ordered the super falafel wrap with fries. Yum! The 'super' part is tabouli and hummus. Delicious. I ordered coffee and my bill was only $10.50. Yes, please! The service was fast and very friendly, and the dining room is very nice to eat in. Good lighting, nice fixtures and textures, plants. We love to come to Beirut by Night when we are in Dearborn. The chicken kifta is fantastic. We are willing to drive from Chicago to Dearborn just for the chicken kifta! It is juicy and flavorful. We had the fish and chips today, which was very good. Back home, most of the restaurants that have fish and chips are beer battered (which I can't have), so it was nice to have a Halal version of this for once! We ordered the chicken platter the last time we were here. That was supposed to be for 2 people, but it could easily feed 4 people! I grabbed some carry-out from here the other day and was quite happy. Fist the really good: the tabbouli. It was amazing - very lemony and fresh. Also, the hummus and garlic paste were quite good. On the other hand, I got the kafta sandwich, which was over-cooked making it dry and not that tasty. I personally liked the bread that came with the hummus because it was a little flatter than usual (but my niece prefers the fluffier stuff). Overall good experience and I'd go back for sure. Walked in here about 30 minutes before closing time on Valentine's Day. It was pretty busy for a late night but we were seated quickly. The restaurant was beautiful! Seriously the most beautiful lighting fixtures I've ever seen and the restaurant was extremely clean. We ordered a meat and chicken platter that came with four skewers with rice, salad and bread all for 18 dollars! The meat was very soft and literally melted in my mouth and the kafta and chicken were equally delicious! The garlic sauce is seriously one of the freshest and most delicious I've had. It was also a little mushy, like there was a lot of fat or skin in it - yuch, or it was just plain bad, bad, bad. The Chicken Schwarma tasted a little old as well. Their chicken galabba (sp?) was DELICIOUS yet the taste was only ruined by the poor service. Food and drinks took ages & much of my food sat as I waited for requested accompaniments that are status quo at other Middle Eastern restaurants. Additionally, a smaller room is reserved for hookah smokers (didn't know that was part of restaurant otherwise, I would have avoided bringing my 1 year old!). The smoke wafted into our empty drinks and overly cluttered, never cleaned off table. Lastly, I strongly believe the cook smoked cigarettes as he cooked because the food itself smelled and tasted of cigarette smoke somehow.... This place was alright a couple months ago, me and my Friend got no service for 20 minutes until she got up and told the waitress we've been waiting for service then she came over and brought menus. Well, we decided to give Beirut By Night a try today for lunch. A few other local Middle Eastern restaurants having been coming up short as of late, so we wanted to try something new. We pulled into the parking lot right at 11am, and thought for a moment it was closed, but noticed a few cars parked in the back. We walked in and were seated immediately, and the waitress took our drink orders. At first glance, the restaurant looked clean, but looking down on the floor, pieces of salad and bread were on the floor from the previous night (at least we hope)... The table and seats were clean, so we just let it slide. LOL We ordered a medium hommous, and chicken shawarma pita sandwiches. The bread came out room temperature, and although ok, seemed heavy compared to the other M.E. establishments in the area. It appeared to be the warm pillow bread everybody loves, but was not the fluffy light pillow, but more of a heavy, memory foam type pillow bread. LOL It didn't have much flavor at all, but the hommous did and it was quite good and tasty. Both of us agreed, the Chicken Shawarma Pita sandwiches were the hottest we have ever ate. They came right off the grill and was still smoking when you took a bite out of it. LOL They were hot, fresh and delicious... The staff is so friendly and the food is soooo authentic. They have the best Kafta, garlic sauce & tabouli around! The meat is always fresh and tender and they get a big order out to you pretty quick! If you're a huge fan of tabouli like I am you'd definitely fall in love with the one they make. Was not impressed.......went in about a month ago. Quality was not there at all. 7pm on a week day and I was the only person in there. Still had to wait 10 minutes longer than the time I was quoted. The place is hit or miss, I really do enjoy it when they are firing on all cylinders. The place is not bad and you really can't go wrong but Dearborn just has too many places that are A1. Depends what you like and what you are aiming for. The place has good food but the atmosphere can be rather boring. Service is usually on point. I wouldn't tell anyone not to go there, it's a nice place with solid food. It's close to my house and good when we have no clue what to eat. Parking is ample and they appear to be busy for lunch. I have never been for lunch but I hear they have good lunch specials with decent pricing for what you get. All and all its not my first choice but my father in law is a huge fan and we don't complain. Super slow lunch service both on the part of the friendly yet inattentive server yet mostly, I suspect, on the part of the kitchen (which seemed busy and active yet with no effect on the main dining room). I sat and sat. First came the Lebanese Salad with chicken shwarma. Good taste. But where did the falafel platter disappear? It came ten minutes after tucking into the salad. The Za'atar pie seemed never to appear. I asked the server who said the ovens were not on long enough. Long enough it seems to be to kick out tasty little pitas to the table next to me, (yet not to me). These delights arrived after the shwarma salads had been eaten. Finally the Za'atar pie arrived, delicious, yet out of synch with everything else. Overall, decent tastes yet terribly confused kitchen and service for a Saturday noon. My second time here after having a horrible experience here. Decided to give it another chance. Came with my wife. Took the waiter a while to take our order or even give us water and there was nobody in the place! I wonder why? That was the first thumbs down. Second when we got our food the Beirut by night plate, there was finger prints on the humos. And there was a long piece of hair in one of the kebabs. It was revolting. The food was cold even. You could tell that the rice was just quickly heated in the microwave. Next thing I noticed was ashes in the pita bread?! When I got up to use the bathroom a strong smell of cigarettes was in the air and I looked to the other side there was an old man just smoking when it clearly says no smoking !! Now I only gave this place another chance because a friend of mine used to work there but it's not even worth it! Bad service, bad food and the place is falling apart. I personally give it 0 stars! Best Shish Tawook Sandwich I ever ate! Totally addicted to them. I crave them about once a week. First time I went there was in July of this year even though I live very close. Not sure what I was waiting for, the food is great! Service could use a little help, depends on what waitress you get, but for good gallaba I don't care. If you order it, get garlic sauce with it, it is great to mix in. Hummus is fabulous, bread is warm and yummy. I love this place! Used to go here when it was Stefan's and I have to tell you, you wouldn't recognize the place. Nice decor, comfortable seating. Juice bar is fabulous and well-priced. Wonderful hummus (seasoned just right) and garlic spread, too, which come with fresh HOT bread. Yum! I usually order the Falafel sandwich which is great and not over done. Husband orders the super chicken schwarma which he absolutely loves. The rice pudding is out of this world, too. We ordered the large platter that serves 5 and most of it was inedible. It was over-cooked and burnt. The falafel was rock hard and the meat was shoe-leather tough. The grape leaves were filled with a gross mushy substance. When we asked for the manager he initially tried to argue with us until we showed him the results of his kitchen. He was then only somewhat understanding. Dearborn has some of the best Middle Eastern cuisine in the country so there is absolutely no excuse for this level of incompetence as the competition is too fierce. We will not be back. read more
