Here's an odd one: my old friend Huiping is here from Beijing and insists we meet him at this Turkish restaurant on Michigan Ave. For my money, they plate one of the best kabobs in the area. The Lamb Shanks are "fall off the bone" tender and super yummy. While I love their Hummus, I'm not wild about the bread. I do recommend the Turkish soup AND the Fattoush Salad. Our server, Hussein, was excellent. Very attentive and friendly. Kept the glasses full and the clutter cleared. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's a delightful eatery that's Turkish inspired. Located in the previous Jolly Pumpkin. Parking is only in the nearby garage, which gets full during lunch time. I always thick of the Turkish doener when I think about Turkish food. It's probably more about the meats, here it definitely is. Much of their grilled meats seem to have some lamb in it, as their flavor enhancer? I am not a red meat consumer, I have only tried their chicken, so they do have chicken shawarma at least. A few of my team members liked their shawarma meats. Service is so-so. Food is decent. Maybe I can convince one of my colleagues to get their spicy sausage pide, the meat looks good by itself. read more

Delicious and large portions! Came here for lunch and was pleasantly surprised with the complimentary bread and dips. The best free pre-meal thing I feel like I've had, ever?! The bread is huge, and the 3 dips are so so good (a beet yogurt one, an herby yogurt one, and a baba ganoush). Got the chicken tavuk meal which came with a choice of grain (yellow saffron rice, white rice, or cracked bulgur) and a salad. The chicken was SO good, perfectly chargrilled, juicy, and flavorful. Salad was great as well, and offered an acidic complement to the savory chicken. I tried a bite of the lamb chunks too someone else ordered, also very good! Also tried Sujuk, which was very yummy (pretty small side dish but worth it for the low price and it's pretty rich). They also have a sujuk hummous which is better for sharing. Tried a piece of Lahmajoun too which was nice, on the lighter side. Took some Turkish delight to go home with as well. Large and roomy interior dining space and looks like they have a lot of seating outdoors too for when it warms up! Fantastic food from Turkish Village and also the restaurant looks very nice and roomy. We went for the kebab and stew/Iskender. both come with yellow rice. Very good, good portion and everything is well season. Flavor is a little bit different than the Lebanese or Yemeni food nearby. 1st of all, I want to say this is one of the best place for Turkish food. The hospitality is hands down the best services I have ever received in a long. my sister and I are newcomers to Turkish foods. Our server -Sammi- offered to guide us through a typical breakfast and she was terrific! she explained each dish, and the traditional way of eating. she was so friendly and every dish was delicious - fresh, beautifully served. Really nice interior at the restaurant, food was not bad, but the service was something else. I visited mid-June, so hopefully the service has improved since, but I won't be coming back to find out. I'll start with the filthy menu. Aside from them being sticky and gross overall, one of the menus had a huge chocolate smear on it. (I'm not exaggerating, look at the photo!) They're laminated.... clean them! The spicy sausage pide was also pretty good. I was planning on eating the last of it when our waiter put the menu on top of it! Yes, that filthy menu I mentioned earlier, right on top of the food. Who does that?! The strawberry mojito wasn't bad, but it just tasted like sparkling soda. Nothing special about it. The kunafa was great, crispy, tasty and fresh. The highlight of our meal, for sure. The beef doner... this is where it gets good. Let me preface by saying I don't like lamb, and neither does my friend. Now, I know Turkish food is big on lamb, so I asked if there was lamb in the beef doner. After the waiter said no, I specifically asked if they add lamb fat to the beef, because a lot of places do, and again, he said no. He told me they actually have a beef doner, and a lamb doner, which are separate. Great, I ordered the beef doner. I didn't even have to taste it to know there was lamb in it as I brought it to my face and the smell hit me immediately. I took a bite anyway. It tasted like lamb, too! (big surprise) So they gave me the wrong protein, not a big deal. I'll just have them remake the order. When the waiter came back, I told him they must have accidentally gave me lamb instead of beef and he said, no it's beef, but it's like 10% lamb, too. WHAT?! I swear me and my friend looked at each other just flabbergasted. He said they use lamb fat to add flavor. When I reminded him I specifially asked this question before ordering, he simply said, "Honestly, I didn't think you would notice." What in the actual heck?! So you lied to me? I wasn't even sure what to say at that point. Why would you lie, after I asked such a specific question? God forbid I was allergic to something. DO NOT EAT HERE IF YOU HAVE ANY ALLERGIES! Anyway, he ended up getting us a chicken doner instead, but that also had a gamey taste. I was over it at this point. After a bite, I just asked for a box and took it to-go for my mom. Took my family visiting from Toronto to Turkish Village and we were absolutely blown away! Every dish we ordered was delicious and full of authentic flavor. The service was excellent--friendly and attentive without being intrusive. Turkey is a country that I've never been to, but have always dreamed of visiting. From time to time I do enjoy traditional Turkish dishes when available (which are not that much different from Lebanese or other Arab dishes). I really enjoy how the meats are prepared and seasoned compared to what I'm used to, and I especially love Doner Kabob. So of course I was excited to finally try the Turkish Village restaurant that opened a year ago in West Dearborn. I've heard multiple opinions about this place from others, so I finally had a chance to have dinner here with my wife who had already experienced it on a previous occasion. First impression of this establishment is that the dining room and atmosphere are terrific. It was busy, but waiting time was barely 10 minutes. We were escorted to a nice spacious booth next to the windows. The restaurant is far from fine dining, but it still felt high end in a way. The menu is quite large with a variety of items to consider. I personally do not like large menus because generally that's a sign that the quality of the food may suffer due to the perceived prioritization of quantity. Being this was my first time I made sure to order something that had a higher chance for satisfaction, so I went with the lamb chops. My wife settled for the cubed lamb meat, and we also shared a salad (arugula topped with other fresh veggies, pistachios and strawberries). I was disappointed in this dish for two reasons. The pomegranate dressing was far too acidic from what I consider enjoyable, and even worse was the sliced strawberries were frozen to the point where I felt like I was biting into ice cubes. Not sure why a good restaurant would need to use frozen strawberries in a salad dish, but I will definitely not get this item again in future visits. My only other major complaint was the "Green Goddess" drink as they call it. It has pieces of green apple in it, but it has little to no sweetness whatsoever and didn't even get a hint of green apple flavor. Truthfully if all I got from this restaurant was the salad and drink I would be very upset, but thankfully the main entrees and dessert saved the day. The meats were all cooked to perfection. They were well seasoned, tender and charred appropriately. The veggies also had a nice grilled taste to them while still maintaining a nice texture. The lamb chops came with a delicious eggplant puree that gave the dish a hint of smokiness. There was quite a bit of food all around so we didn't leave hungry. We initially weren't thinking of getting dessert, but we decided to go with one cheese kunefe to share as well as a pot of tea. Despite the kunefe being small it was more than enough for my wife and I since we were very full from the savory items. The tea was a great way to finish our meal which started off a little rocky and ended on a high note. A few more takeaways. Be careful when you bite into the peppers because they have plenty of seeds in them and can be spicy. My wife unfortunately bit into one thinking it was a mild/sweet pepper only to be unpleasantly surprised. Another thing is this restaurant is a bit pricey, so make sure you get food from here you are familiar with so you don't end up feeling dissatisfied. I also want to give a special shoutout to our waiter that evening, Obaida. He was an excellent employee and really went the extra mile to make sure we enjoyed our dinner. I say this because I see some of the reviews criticizing the wait staff here, but that was not an issue for us on this particular occasion. read more

A beautiful awesome day amazing people of the world. It's Dearborn Restaurant Week and a lunch down has been arranged here at the Turkish Village restaurant in Dearborn, Michigan. My friends have been having cravings for their favorite Turkish dishes. They said Turkey is one of their favorite places to travel. So yea, we're here and let's begin shall we. We start with the bread and the dips. We have the roasted peppers and tomato salsa, Tzatziki and hummus. I'd give it a good 8 out of 10. It was super enjoyable. The combo plate comes with Adana and Chicken Kebab, Beef and Chicken doner meats, Beef and chicken shish on a bed of rice. This combo plate was sublime! 8.7 out of 10! That lamb shank tho? Forget about it. That slow braised flavor is just straight up comforting. It's also fall off the bone tender. 9.3 out of 10! Anyways, if you're ever in the area. I was on the verge of adding Turkish Village to my no-go list after reading a 1-star review stating that the restaurant was not honoring their Restaurant Week special. That certainly sounded unethical, but I wanted to check it out for myself and decided to give it a chance. As soon as we walked in on Sunday for lunch, the last day of Dearborn Restaurant Week 2024, we were greeted warmly and allowed to pick any table in the rather empty interior. We perused the menus and asked for the $40 special, which the waitress enthusiastically recommended. Mezze Platter (Complimentary) - This includes three items. First up a thick pink sultan, colored with beets, with a yogurt and garlic tanginess. In the middle, a tomato, cucumber and parsley based ezme, with a bit of a savory spice added from peppers, and some sweetness from pomegranate. The taste is almost a bit smoky and serves as a counterpart against the relatively similar taste of the other two starters. Lastly, haydari, a mainly dill, feta, garlic and yogurt mixture that tastes pretty similar to the sultan but with a bit more herbal freshness and some additional savory saltiness from the feta. Pita (Complimentary) - Other than being an unleavened flat bread, this bread doesn't really share the characteristics of a typical pita. It's cut into rectangles and there's no discernible pocket on the interior. The inside of the bread is quite chewy, while the exterior is crunchy and falls off in a single layer. The top is studded with sesame and nigella seeds, giving a deep earthiness. Restaurant Week Combo ($40) - The combo first comes with a salad and small order of hummus. The salad is fattoush-like, but missing the fried pita chips. There's a sumac infused vinaigrette that covers chopped lettuce, tomato, red onion, and cucumber, giving the whole salad a vinegary tang. It's perfectly dressed (4/5). The hummus is a pretty typical good quality restaurant hummus. Smooth, with balanced flavors between the chickpeas, tahini, and acidity. It's topped with a paprika infused olive oil, which seems to add more color than flavor to the hummus (4/5). Next comes two drinks. We went with the the Turkish Village smoothie and the Turkish Tea. The smoothie served is a half size 8oz portion. It's layered with an avocado pistachio base, mango in the middle, and strawberry on top and topped with sultana, coconut flakes, and crushed pistachio. Once mixed a bit (which naturally occurs as you drink), the overwhelming flavor is of mango. The tea is a nice, strong black tea with a bit of an astringent mouthfeel and reminds me of the taste of darjeeling. It's served with two sugar cubes to sweeten to your liking. Next up is a large plate filled with meat, veggies, and rice. The platter seems to be a half size portion of the $84 family platter. For the rice we had a choice of red, yellow, or white. The waitress recommended the red and we found it to be a great choice - it's not rice, instead it's bulgur pilav, with bulgur cooked in a savory tomato base, mixed with bell peppers, onions, and various spices. The bulgur retains a bit of snap and is deliciously tomatoey with a bit of a spicy kick (5/5). The meat consists of an adana kebab, chicken kebab, chicken shish, beef shish, and both chicken and beef doner meat. To be honest, I couldn't really taste the lamb in the adana - it's quite beefy and is deeply savory with a bit of a kick. The beef doner, on the other hand, does have a bit of gaminess, with a taste that first is quite beefy, and then transitioning to lamb later. It's seasoned well and thinly shaved with some crisped areas on the exterior. Similarly, the chicken doner is thinly shaved. It's quite tender and juicy, with some fattier bits that adds additional flavor and texture. Both the chicken and beef shish are seasoned well, with great flavor and moist interiors. The char taste on the exterior is fantastic and the beef is cooked medium. Finally the chicken kebab is colored with turmeric, and has a bounce to it with no gristle (5/5). The meal ends with two pieces of Turkish kunefe. It's different from the typical Lebanese kunefe you can find around Dearborn. Instead of solid piece of cheese on the bottom, there's a thin layer of cheese in the center, surrounded by crunchy strands of shredded phyllo. It's drizzled in what appears to be simple syrup (no perfumed taste of rose or honey detected), and topped with crushed pistachio. While there wasn't any cheese pull from this kunefe, the differing textures of the cheese and phyllo made this a delicious treat (4/5). Overall, I'm glad I took the risk and ate at Turkish Village. I have no idea how the other reviewer had such a bad experience, but I certainly found the restaurant welcoming and the food delicious. I'm not sure I would go for their regular menu, but the half sized portions we got for $40 was definitely worth the money. Note: There is a ~4% discount for cash payment. Wanted to/ might've loved Turkish Village, if not for some hiccups in our pickup order. This first one might've been an error on my part: the cold starters (Soguk Mezeler) we ordered did not come with bread. We got the BABA GHANOUJ (smoked pureed eggplant) and PEMBE SULTAN (beets, garlic and labneh yogurt). Both were amazing, but did not come with any bread or dip-able items. Looks like their hummus comes with lavash bread, but I didn't see any other places on the menu to order bread as a side. Not sure if it was forgotten? Or if this is to be expected for these starters? We also ordered two beef doner. I ordered a salad with mine instead of fries, but both ended up with fries. This wasn't a total tragedy, since we then had something to dip in our starters. Sadly for $15, the doner was mostly mediocre fries and the wrap itself was pretty small. Unfortunately, we live nearly 40 minutes away from Dearborn so these mishaps couldn't be fixed. If we're ever in the area, I might try dining in. Otherwise, I would just check your pickup order before you drive away. read more

There are many restaurants in Dearborn serving Mediterranean-style food and Turkish Village is our favorite! Rawan was a very kind and attentive waitress and explained all the different dessert options. We tried the cold baklava with milk and it was a delightful change from the standard baklava. Finally had an opportunity to try out the Turkish village !! I have heard about this place a lot than was eagerly waiting to find out the reason behind the popularity. Restaurant is huge, well decorated and located in heart of Dearborn. Planing for the restaurant was so poor that I had to walk 4 min in the cold to pick up my carry out !! No onsite parking with or without pay. You have to cross the street to find a parking spot. There is a parking structure other side of the road which was extremely inconvenient for their customer. Food was great, to be honest I found the high quality ingredients and top notch kebab like Turkish restaurant in Europe. Service was terrible, as other recent reviews described, extremely horrible service experience. For us Garlic sauce is a MUST, when picking up the carry out trays, I reconfirmed if the garlic sauce is there, if not I was willing to pay for two. The girl served me, said it is in the bag. Due to formality I didn't open the combo bags and after driving it back home which was 35 min drive, we didn't find any Garlic Sauce !! Very disappointed with our experience at Turkish Village. The food was served cold to us twice, and when we mentioned it, the owner said his main chef wasn't there that day -- but that's no excuse for poor sanitation or serving unsafe food. To make matters worse, I just spoke with our party that took a tray of our left over, and she mentioned that both she and her dad ate some of the food on Monday and ended up with upset stomachs and loose stool. She ended up throwing the rest away on Tuesday. I ended up with an upset stomach and loose stool as well. I thought it was just me but apparently our entire party had the same issue. This was a very unpleasant experience overall, and unfortunately, I won't be going back after this. read more

Hummus (exceptional) topped with chopped beef sausage was served with amazing bread, pita like but crispy. Dining partner had a chicken doner bowl, which came with beef as well as the chicken (maybe we missed something on the menu); sliced chicken over rice with salad (no dressing) and hummus. The meat was thin and flavorful, too. Server was pleasant but we were in a hurry so we didn't get a lot of interaction.
