AUTHENTIC HIGH QUALITY HOME COOKING!! This place is so charming and honestly a hidden gem! My fiancé and I stopped in here while visiting Ann Arbor and he is from Turkey. He was missing his mothers cooking and this absolutely hit the spot. Their menu is always changing and includes Turkish comfort dishes. The woman they helped us was so sweet and explained everything on the menu in detail. Everything is amazing but get the tomato stewed green beans no matter what. They are life changing!

I decided to stop in after a nearby Dr's appt after seeing the pictures of the dishes. This is a quaint, simple spot in an unassuming strip mall. I was instantly seduced by all of the unique offerings which seemed to be authentic Turkish delicacies. It was tough to narrow down my choices, as everything looked amazing. I decided on:stewed greenbeans ,lamb stuffed eggplant ,house salad and Noah's pudding for dessert. The service was excellent and friendly.Everything was fabulous!I particularly appreciated how healthy everything was with the inclusion of whole grains in every dish, even the pudding! Irarely order dessert, but this may be the best one I've ever had. The mixture of grains, dried fruit, nuts and rose water was absolute perfection. I licked the bowl clean and longed for more. I will definitely return to try all of their other offerings.

It was delish but really expensive. It was lunch, and it was a plate of eggplant and rice. $18. And we were supposed to get a choice of rice style. I choose plain rice, but the owner/cool decided for me that the other rice was more suitable. ??? Ok it was good, but she really should have mentioned that when I placed my order instead of surprising me. Perhaps they were out of the plain? Or it was just a mix up and she didn't want to own that? It was really good, but based on the cost I wouldn't go for a meal again.

Very nice little place. The food was very tasty, the people here were very nice, the restaurant was charming. I started with the red lentil soup which was very good, my chicken with tomatoes and cinnamon was very tender, and the poppy seed cake was delicious. It was a huge amount of food and I left stuffed. The menu changes daily and the board had about 9-10 main dishes listed and each dish comes with soup or salad.

Chicken loaf with tomato sauce and rice

The thought of trying out Turkish food for the first time is always a pleasant thought to have. Needless to say, I am always excited in trying out new things. So I got the chicken meatloaf plate with roasted tomato sauce and some Turkish coffee. The meals come with a lentil soup so that's always really nice. Umm, ok so the meal didn't taste bad but it wasn't anything special. It didn't seem like I really was experiencing a Turkish meal because it tasted like chicken and rice with a tomato sauce. Nothing extraordinary. Also, they seemed to only have the owner lady (extremely nice) doing all the cooking so the wait was relatively long. Please also note that you have to order up front before you sit. Now although the Turkish dish tasted average, the coffee did come in handy as it was made fresh and it was really strong. I loved it. The overall cost was $20 so little on higher end but nothing crazy. Would come back again possibly and try a different dish.

    Zucchini Musakka

Was really excited to try a local Turkish place, but we paid 17.95 for the Zucchinni Musakka with beef, rice and lentil soup and I was shocked at how small the portions were for the price. I am always willing to pay more for quality and at local restaurants, but that was really disappointing. They currently only offer takeout, so maybe the portions on their inside dining are better.

The cafe side, as opposed to the sit-down restaurant side.

My entree, Penne with Chianti sauce was delicious and was a very nice portion. My son did enjoy everything he ordered. In addition, the restaurant is attractive and clean. My complaints: my very small side salad, and I mean small, had a nice dressing and three small sliced cherry tomotoes for a whopping $8.00. Cafe Zola may have had less than a dollar in ingredients. I don't mind paying $8.00 but make it a salad, not a gouge. His $5.00 ginger beer was maybe 8 oz. Otherwise, a good meal.

I gave a two rather than one thinking that it being Easter, it affected some things. To start, we had an 11:45 reservation. After 10 minutes the couple ahead of us checked in to find out there were no available tables. They had just seated a couple with no reservation who was in front of them. My sister and I cancled the reservation and sat at the bar which was empty. I got a special drink which was a honey lavender latte. There was no lavender flavor to it. It was not worth the $8. My sister had an ice caramel latte with almond milk and that bad boy was over $9 and she said chains have better lattes! On to the food. I ordered brussel sprouts that were supposed to be fried. I asked them to come out before our main dishes. 20 minutes later they come out and they are barely pan seared and had no flavor. People who came in after us and ordered food started getting their dishes. Finally after being there for 45 minutes I asked about our food and I was told that our ticket went in after others because of the appetizer and the kitchen staff not being competent enough to understand how to order up the food. He also mentioned that the kitchen was really small. If that's the case, then don't cram so many tables in such a small place. Fewer tables means fewer orders which means more efficient food production. My waffles were good, but for $18?!? No. And the babka French toast my sister got was defenitely not worth the $21. I'll never go back.

The cafe is a few tables inside of the market/deli, with a lot of takeout happening but I love that they offer dining in as they heat everything up for you and it's all presented very nicely. We ordered a ton of things: harissa dip, hummus, pita, spice roasted cauliflower, tabbouleh, lasagne verde, chicken tagine, and gelato. I loved that the menu indicates which menu items have a smaller carbon footprint - and we happened to be dining there on Earth Day! The food was all flavorful and the perfect temperature, which I appreciated. My favorites were the harissa dip, tabbouleh, and the lasagne verde. The chicken tagine was very good, and we enjoyed the leftovers the next day. The spice roasted cauliflower left us wanting it to be a bit more crispy, but it was a nice side. The gelato is delicious - it's made by Palazzolo's but El Harissa provides them with the unique ingredients for their specialty flavors. They were out of some but we got to sample several. We ended up with the roasted pistachio gelato and the apricot peach cardamom. The texture of the gelato was perfectly creamy and the flavors were strong. The market has lots of great items to buy: chips, tunisian olive wood pieces, spices, etc. I'm so glad we sought out this spot and can't wait to get more of their food!

I was a little disappointed that it was only a coffee date because the menu made my mouth water. Nonetheless, we arrived around 9:30 in the morning and our appointment was already there with her coffee. I ordered cappuccino and husband got a hot chocolate because he was coffeed-out. With 2 other guests in the place it took about 15 minutes for coffee to arrive. I thought that unusually lengthy but really didn't mind. Only mention it for the review. When the coffee was delivered the first thing I noticed was the waitress asked our guest if she wanted cream for her half empty coffee. (Which told me she didn't offer it to her when she brought the coffee to her and she also did not offer a refill) My cappuccino was not good at all. I ordered a double shot of espresso in it. The coffee tasted like a regular cup of brewed grounds and the steamed milk was such a foamy/airy blob on top I could've eaten it with my spoon. Not a thick creamy froth at all. So, clearly, whoever drew the coffee was a novice. My husband said his chocolate was more like a warm glass of chocolate milk with a canned whipped cream and a bunch of cocoa sprinkled on top. I just feel that when you charge $7.50 for a coffee and you have a choice of 20 different takes on coffee, that everyone that makes coffee should know how. The service was unremarkable, neither good or bad. The ambience was pleasing, open airy and clean. Don't let my review steer you away. I will try Zola again - for lunch next time. The barista might have had the day off.
