First visit to Al-Ameer. Restaurant is beautiful. Clean, nice aroma of food being made, and comfortable seating. Wait staff were nice and friendly. Good variety of menu choices. We ordered Shawarma and our sandwich was a large hot serving. Prices on Food items were also good. This was our first visit but definitely not our last! read more

Al-Ameer - Lunch portion beef Shawarma Combo - Middle Eastern Near Me - Dearborn, Michigan

Baba had a gelatin texture, hummus was lousy... too much of something not enough of another like dry and not as creamy as I like and lacked flavor. Fattoush was like fattoush and Greek salad mix? Just weird. Lentil soup was really watery and lacked flavor. Rice tasted like it was 3 days old. The grape leaves were the ABSOLUTE WORST I've ever had. They were like "Pinner" grape leaves with that same old ass rice ...but watery . I gave 2 stars because the boneless chicken with garlic sauce was good enough garlic sauce saved it because the chicken would have been thin and dry. The kibbie was really good but dang. No pita bread in 62 bucks of food?!!! With SO MANY other places around I'd never go back to this place. Maybe because I ordered through door dash and am not Arab they tried to pawn the leftovers on me? We eat Mediterranean food at least once a week sometimes up to 4. My family was hugely disappointed. read more

We came here with some friends and were sat immediately during lunch time. My wife ordered the shawarma plate which was about $25. I figured the shawarma sandwich at $8 would be a teeny tiny portion as a result but I was surprisingly shocked when a full size dish was presented to me. In all honestly, this place should be referred to as family style. The shawarma plate would easily serve 3 people and the potato dish we ordered fed four adults and we still had leftovers. So yes, don't let the prices discourage you because you're getting a ton of food. If I had access to an $8 shawarma that tasted this good I'd eat it everyday. read more

Decent eats via delivery. We ordered the appetizer plate with hummus, baba, grape leaves, falafel, we also had the fattoush salad and kibbeh. All things were fresh and well prepared. We ended uo back at Ol Faithful after looking for somewhere else to go. Honestly the customer service is always top notch here as well as the food. Quick, efficient and courteous. We were given some complimentary chai tea as well that was delicious. Started off with appetizer combo and then Al Ameer platter for the 2 of us. A lot of food but we anticipated leftovers- which we did. Fattoush came anf was seasoned well, combo followed with delicious grape leaves and soft falafel. Still the creamiesy humus I've ever found. Baba ganoush is always hit or miss and today is was kind of in the middle. The platter has delish tawook, kafta, kabobs and beef and chicken shwarma. Choice of rice and we chose yellow instead of the white. Fresh baked pita breads set it off and it was a great meal and will be a great lunch tomorow. read more

Wow is this place great! When you walk in you be met with aromas that will make you happy. The service was so friendly. We were quickly seated and handed a menu. I went with a lentil soup to start with. It was flavorful and seasoned. The portion size was good too. They also brought out some freshly made bread. It was still warm and delicious! I ripped it open and filled it with my fatoosh salad. I ordered a medium salad and it was plenty to eat. The dressing had a wonderful zing to it. I also ordered a freshly squeezed juice. It had beets and carrots. It was earthy and flavorful. I felt like my body needed the nutrients. The service and food were both excellent. I would love to come back and try even more of the menu. Highly recommended. read more

Food was very good, only issues were dirty dishes sat on the table, slow to no service until I flagged another server over to get water. I watched the busser with a bus cart just stand there. He left the cart so I got up to clear the dishes. The other waitress came over, than the manager stopped to apologize. read more

I feel this place must have been better in the past. Received a James Beard award in 2016. Looks like the exterior is currently being renovated. The restaurant itself is quite nice inside. Service wasn't the greatest the night I ate with a friend - slow, needed frequent reminders for food/drinks. The food itself was average. The meat was a bit dry. The freshly made pitas were fantastic along with the freshly squeezed juice. I would say average. Could probably do better in the Dearborn area read more

I returned to Al-Ameer recently with my wife, for a far too delayed second visit. My first meal there was maybe about 10 years ago, and it was transcendent. Five stars, to be sure. I recall the hot fresh pita being a revelation, especially when dragged through the cool tart labneh. Why the drop to four stars? It may sound silly and petulant, but my biggest complaint and the thing that may keep me from returning, was the harsh chemical smell from the spray used to clean all the tables. The food itself smells amazing! The table adjacent to ours got a platter of grilled kabobs and the charred meat aroma was indeed able to cut through the industrial cleaner that hung in the air. But fundamentally the dining room is entirely unappetizing thanks to the restaurant's choice in cleaning products. Which is a shame, because the fresh fried falafel served still warm, crisp, and tender, were the best my wife has ever had. The hummus is great. The stuffed lamb was tender and aromatic. Prices are fair, especially considering the quality and quantity of the food. Portions are quite large, but this is intended to be family style, so order appropriately. Service was fine. Our waiter forgot to bring my wife's tea, but once we were able to flag them down, she got her drink. And the server took it off the bill without us mentioning the error. N.B. there is a 3% surcharge for using a credit card. I get why restaurants do this, but that does not make it any less annoying. read more

I really had higher expectations seeing other reviews, but was left feeling disappointed with my meal. I ordered the combo platter with oriental rice and lentil soup on the side. All three meats were lacking in flavor and seasonings, and I had to drench in the sauces provided to make more palatable. The falafel was okay, not the best I've had but not the worse. The rice was also lacking flavor and the texture not very appetizing. The lentil soup was pretty standard, but the best part of the meal in my opinion. There was far too much bread in relation to the meat provided, and at nearly $30 I felt like it was overall very overpriced. This location is going through renovations so it was a bit difficult to find the entrance (at the back) for my pickup order. The cashier was not the friendliest. Overall, I don't think this restaurant lives up to its hype. I'll try another option next time I'm in town! read more

In town on a work trip and did my homework before picking a spot, and this place absolutely delivered. Al Ameer isn't just another Middle Eastern restaurant, it's a cornerstone of Dearborn's food scene and a James Beard America's Classics Award winner, which already sets expectations high. Somehow, it still exceeded them. I went all in and the table told the story. Fresh hummus with that perfect creamy texture and olive oil finish, crispy falafel that was light inside and not greasy, stuffed grape leaves done right, and a shawarma plate that honestly took me back to meals I've had in the Middle East. Everything tasted clean, balanced, and authentic, not overdone or watered down. The bread coming out warm sealed it. That detail alone says a lot about how seriously they take the food. Service was just as strong. Juju took great care of me, attentive without hovering, and made the whole experience feel easy and welcoming. You can tell this place isn't trying to be trendy. It's just confident, consistent, and rooted in doing things the right way. That's probably why it's been recognized nationally and still packed with locals. If you're anywhere near Dearborn and want real Lebanese food, not a version of it, this is a must. read more

Customer service was AMAZING. They very gracefully handled our table of 18 with multiple separate checks and a whole lot of those 18 people had no idea what they were ordering. Al-Ameer - Lemon chicken and rice soup with the labneh - Middle Eastern Near Me - Dearborn, Michigan

The food is pretty good yet there are a couple things severely lacking lately. The first thing is there is never fresh pomegranate juice. It seems like that should always be available. Secondly- we ordered sides of garlic in the bowl but it came in these really annoying packages like how you get dressings. It's messy and harder to get all the garlic dip out. I don't like touching it and inevitably the garlic falls out This truly ruined my meal and I'm pretty sure that I didn't get the amount I normally get from purchasing a side of garlic. they do this to the tahini sauce as well, which made my experience with the falafel less enjoyable. read more

Al-Ameer is fantastically yummy and is a favorite of my work division. Most anyone can be satisfied with the menu, no matter their preferred diet. There are options for meat eaters as well as vegetarians and vegans. We've either eaten there or had them cater our holiday lunches for years. The hospitality is top-notch. Zaki always provides excellent service and so does the dedicated staff. The portions are generous. We always have enough to eat and leftovers for some people to take home. The menu is expansive with fresh delicious Lebanese/Middle Eastern fare. They have all of your favorites such as kebob, which the flame broiled chicken is absolutely delicious. My other highlights are the fresh crisp salads and the potatoes. The fresh juices are also yummy, as is the baklava. The value of the food is reasonable and well worth the amount charged. The restaurant accommodates parties of most sizes. read more

This restaurant is one that I frequent much less in recent years. My family has been coming here for 30+ years, my Dad would often talk to Khalil, the owner way back when. Last I heard, his son is running the restaurant, but I'm not sure. Anyway, the quality of food has gone down over the years. We took a few friends today for them to try Al-Ameer for their first time. We ordered a few things to give them a sampling of the menu. We ordered a whole boneless chicken with rice and fattoush, also the Al-Ameer Platter with rice and spinach cabbage salad. Plus, we ordered hummus and 2 skewers of shish kabob. Our favorite dishes here were always the boneless chicken and the fattoush, both were underwhelming today. The chicken was cut so thin and seemed dry, the sauce wasn't as flavorful as it used to be. The fattoush was pretty bland and I'm not sure it even had the pita chips in it. Another thing I noticed was how small the salads were, the salad size seemed like something for 1 person, not shareable really. We enjoyed the meat shawarma, kafta, and kabob. The chicken Shawarma and shish tawook were also dry. We were happy to see that they are still making fresh pita. The hummus was very good. I forgot to find out our servers name, she was very sweet and attentive. The restaurant ambiance used to have such character back in the day, there were personal pieces/ travel souvenirs decorating the walls. They have remodeled the place, which looks nice, clean and modern, but lacking in charm. I'd like to give this 3.5 stars, as the food doesn't live up to what it used to be. I would use Al-Ameer as the standard I would measure other Arabic restaurants against. read more

This was the place we went out of our way to go to. And it was pretty disappointing. The server was really bad. She was nice enough but probably in the wrong job. And there were way too many people working for the amount of people dining in so it was a weird to have such a problem with service. The pita bread was really disappointing with an odd texture I've never come across. You are lead to believe it is made fresh but it didn't taste fresh. My steak shish kabob was okay. I am glad that is all I ordered to eat there. I did order hummus and baba ghanouge to go for some friends and they loved it. It was odd to have to ask for more pita bread to go with it. There wasn't nearly enough for the amount that was ordered. Maybe it was just a bad day but we won't be back. There are too many restaurants of this ilk to enjoy in the Detroit metro that are outstanding. read more

Weekday lunches out came to a screeching halt in 2020 when the work from home era began. As life continues to try to return to pre pandemic, we were glad to see Al Ameer survives! A group of us stopped in for lunch recently and Mary was our server. She provided wonderful service and the food was every bit as good as we had remembered. Some had Fattoush with Shawarma, a couple had lamb entrees, and the others tried the sandwiches. Soon again, we will return. read more

DELICIOUS. My kiddo and I stopped in around 4 p.m. for a late lunch/early dinner looking for some authentic Middle Eastern cuisine. Was surprised there weren't more customers. Our server was lovely and friendly. We ordered the Al-Ameer platter so we could sample a bunch of different items... this was easily enough food for a family of four, and reasonably priced. First "course" started off with a savory salad, silky smooth hummus and pickled turnips -- all fresh and flavorful. I could have loaded up just on this... but then out came a mouthwatering platter filled with chicken and meat shawarma, kafta and kebabs. Oh, and fresh pillowy pita bread. Every bite was better than the last... If I had to pick, my favorite items were the hummus, the kafta and the meat shawarma. We took half our meal home. Would definitely go back again when in Detroit. read more

I finally got a chance to try this place out. I hear so many good things about this place. We ended up getting the meat platter, lentil soup, bread with garlic sauce, meat pastries, white rice and "brown rice" ( it's not American brown rice, just white rice cooked with meat and seasoning -it's good). What I really enjoy most were the meat pastries. I'd go there just for those alone. They were seasoned and cooked to perfection. They have a large menu so I wouldn't mind coming back to try some more menu items. Service was great, we were greeted and set we immediately, our food came in a timely manner and we have a good/attentive waiter. read more
