The Halfway Cafe is a West Roxbury staple. A go to place for consistent, good quality food that you can trust any day of the week. I like coming in when there's a game to watch on the flat screen TVs that surround the restaurant walls. It is a small restaurant with a townie feel - I can tell they have a lot of regulars that come in (I may be becoming one of them). When dining in, they serve fresh popcorn. Sometimes the popcorn is salty but I guess it depends who makes the batch that day. I've ordered the clam chowder a few times, it's good and rich. I recommend the burgers / sandwiches and any of their drinks.

I ordered the steak and cheese, which might be the smallest amount of steak and filling I've ever gotten anywhere. I included their menu picture and a picture of what I got.

Great place in Dedham for so many reasons. Menu has an amazing selection and changes seasonally. Drinks are delicious and beer is cold. The popcorn is the best! Services is on point and very friendly. Outside patio is nice too!

The shrimp Mozambique had a really good cook on the shrimp and nicely flavored seasonings and sauce. The fish and chips had a decent fry on the fish batter without being too browned. The slaw and sauce were decent as well. Some of the fries were over fried, but otherwise decent. The haddock chowder had some dairy in the broth, but wasn't a thick chowder. The cod and clams were cooked properly, with a nice blend of celeriac. The seafood fra diavolo was really delicious, balancing spice with savory. The seafood was also properly rendered here. Great eats!

There's something unsettling yet empowering about dining alone and pushing through the initial awkwardness. I was flanked on each side by two couples who engaged me with delightful conversation all sorts. The barkeeps (one British--Will, one Irish--Adam, addressed me as either 'love' or 'darlin', so I was smitten from the get-go LOL! (Will resembled a young, bearded Jimmy Fallon). The Bees Knees cocktail was delicious alongside the pork schnitzel with apple bacon slaw. Fun fact: they don't serve dessert of any kind, but they sure can make an espresso martini instead! (It was unpretentiously delicious).

I ordered the Bourbon Steaktips Tortellini -- tender bourbon-marinated steak tips served over cheese tortellini in a rich truffle cream sauce with spinach and red peppers, topped with shaved parmesan and toasted garlic bread. Everything was cooked perfectly. The steak tips were incredibly tender, and the bourbon flavor paired surprisingly well with the creamy sauce and perfectly al dente tortellini. Service was excellent from start to finish, and our waitress was attentive and friendly all night. They also have a very solid beer list -- seeing Maine Beer Co. Peepers on tap was a nice bonus. Overall, a really great find and definitely worth checking out if you're in the area.

The Reuben was good, not excellent, and was quite large, so I took 1/2 home. And the clam chowder was served in a big bowl, but the recipe needed more potato and clam, less flour. Still, this was world's better than my cooking, so I'll be back to other things on the menu. And, the people who work here are lovely. It makes the entire experience enjoyable.

These days, everywhere you go, places are charging around $20 for a burger. More often than not, they disappoint at that price point. And some don't even come with fries for that price! But that's where we are. I ordered the Capital Burger for $23. It was arguably the best burger I've had in my life. Like a French onion soup infused burger. The taste was delectable, the quality top notch, and cooked to perfection. And yes, it came with fries. Finally, a burger worth the hefty price places charge nowadays. Wife had the Ribeye Steak Sandwich which was flavorful and plentiful, as we brought half home for lunch the next day. And surprisingly, the wine list is VERY reasonably priced. Again, if you eat out often, you know the prices for a glass of wine have risen beyond ridiculous the last couple of years. So appreciate this place for not price gouging.

I ordered the mezcal margarita, which was just okay for me. It wasn't as smoky as I was hoping for. The burger, however, was delicious--juicy, cheesy, and full of flavor! We walked into a space that sits at street level with a seating area handling the volume of a busy lunch or dinner crowd reasonably well, and the lively atmosphere made it a comfortable place to settle into rather than just a grab and go counter. The ShackBurger is the obvious anchor and holds up to the brand's reputation, juicy and well assembled with the cheese and sauce distribution landing evenly across the patty in a way that keeps each bite consistent. The Shack Stack is worth upgrading to if you want something more substantial, and the shroom burger is a strong option for anyone who wants something different from the standard beef lineup. The cheese fries are among the most ordered sides and are the right call over the standard fries if you want something that holds up better through the meal. Consistency is the main variable worth noting. Temperature and timing can be hit or miss depending on how busy the location is running, with burgers occasionally coming out on the cooler side when the kitchen is stacking orders. Getting there during a slightly off peak window tends to produce a better result, and online ordering pickup can be uneven in terms of staff attentiveness at this location. The overall experience remains solid for a fast casual burger stop in a busy outdoor mall setting, but calibrating expectations on timing makes the visit smoother.

In addition, I ordered no pickles and it was covered in pickles. Setting aside the fact that Shake Shack is already way overpriced for mediocre fast food, this is ridiculous. I might as well have gone to Burger King for the same quality but at least pay half the price. The quality has gone way down, likely because they keep trying to add all sorts of items to their menu that make it more work for the employees. You want a good fast food burger, go to Five Guys (much better french fries). I would give it zero stars but gave it 1 star is because when I complained they refunded my money. But that does not change the fact that my meal was unappetizing and not what I ordered.
