What has happened to The Halfway Cafe. It's been about 6 months since we have been here and the quality has gone WAY down. Everything was overdone. My wife and I had fried clams and they were cooked too long. Not deep fried to a golden brown but to a very dark brown. Maybe they were short on supply but the portions were very small as well. It came with a side of slaw, and it was just one fork full, literally. My daughter ordered the Veggie burger and that's what she got... a veggie burger on a bun... no lettuce tomato, onion nothing just a bun. The waiter said "Oh you need to ask for that if you want it". We went here for St. Patty's Day 2012. I got a Reuben and my husband got the Corned Beef Special. Can not complain-food was delish! There was not one thing to complain about- and it was fast, nice, service. They give endless free popcorn which satisfies your appetite until your entree comes. It is a small bar with a dozen tables or so with low lighting. Its more like a pub type atmosphere. Attire is VERY casual and its a great place to come if you want a quick bite to eat and don't expect anything too fancy. If you want to sit at the bar there is a flat screen for you to watch games. best of all is that its cheap! Good pricing on food and drinks. I wish I came here more often! Me and a buddy stopped in and they happened to be having a $5 burger special (usually $9.99). We both went with turkey burgers and I got mine lettuce wrapped with sauteed mushrooms and caramelized onions. Burger was great, the toppings were good, especially the onions! Like many classic Boston establishment I've visited, this one centers around sports, hearty food and having a good time! The Halfway Cafe has lots of TV screens as well as plenty of popcorn and good beer to enjoy with them. Rowdy, fun and affordable, the Halfway Cafe is also home of the "7 for $7." In any given month there are 7 specials you can get for $7 each. During our visit some of them included the Chicken Kabob salad, a lean au jus sandwich and a turkey panini. On the main menu (which wasn't much higher than the " 7 for 7" menu by the way) we recommend the seafood penne all a vodka -- very tasty! The kids menu is also pretty decent and the staff is very nice! Go and root for your favorite Boston-area sports team! read more

Located across form the illustrious dedham mall.... it is easy to pass by but you would be a fool to do so. You gotta stop by and try some of their pub grub next time your in the area. Good food cheap! Exactly.. The Halfway is just that, the food is really good and isn't gonna cost you an arm and a leg. This is the original location, and it is a Small space. But they make up for that with hearty, tasty food, and cold beers! The boneless Cafe wings are awesome. Boneless white chicken meat cooked perfectly then tossed in a ahso mixture. The sauce is so good, order up some of the handcut fries to soke up the extra sauce. The burgers and tips (steak or Turkey) are great as well. read more

My party of four showed up on a Friday night just after six pm. We were quickly told that a table would be ready for us in about 15 minutes. In about that amount of time, maybe a couple minutes longer we were being comfortably seated next to the front window. Our waiter,Todd, came to our table without delay even though it was a full house. The Drink order was taken and delivered swiftly and correctly. Martini Apple House $8.50, One Margarita Cuervo, a bottle of Bass ale $7.00, and my Old fashion SC. Enough about the service. What I really want to mention is the food. In particular my Halfway Combo. Half steak tips and half turkey tips. What a wonderful dish. I love those turkey tips. This eatery is small and always packed with patrons. The nose level was considered too high for my dinner companions. But we all enjoyed the food and drinks and had a terrific evening. Try the Halfway house. . I think you will enjoy it. read more

I went here with friends recently and it was a fun and pretty good little hang out. The food was great, I liked their salad dressing it was a creamy Italian with good spices and a twist that I liked. Went last evening to the Dedham location. Walked in at approximately 5:15 PM and the bar area was packed with the regulars but the restaurant portion was almost empty. For a Saturday night, that gave me a bad vibe (I've been going sporadically since '92 or so and had never seen it that dead). Boneless buffalo fingers had absolutely no "zing" to them, pretty bland. I'd recommend using a spicier sauce. My wife ordered steak tips and the waitress persuaded her to getting a salad instead of fries. Turns out the salad had several pieces of brown lettuce when it arrived. I got the basic cheeseburger and have no complaints, pretty good as a matter of fact. I've had the fries there dozens of times and perhaps my taste buds are changing as I get older, but they're really not my cup of tea anymore. Back to my wife's salad-- turns out the brown salad was an extra and cost $3, absurd for sub-par lettuce. I'm sure it was probably on the menu's fine print, but the waitress should have mentioned it after suggesting herself. The waitress, a tall blonde woman, was attentive and excellent. I think management forces the wait staff to push frequent diner cards on their customers. We must have been asked three times. Prices are more than reasonable. I'll be back, but probably not as fast as I usually would. read more

I love this place! Great burgers, as good as Mrs. Bartley's in Harvard Square but 1/2 the price and even better on Monday ($5.00 burgers). I am shocked at the poor reviews for Halfway - but maybe because they're confusing the Dedham location with the others. I've never been to the others spots, so all I can comment on is this one. One review was spooked by tables not being filled on one recent visit - just to note, Washington St has been undergoing major upgrade and the restaurant is almost impossible to get to from the front - so that has to impact volume. We're local and go here on a regular basis - even with construction, it's been busy every time we've gone (testament to the loyal customer base.) Service is great - many servers hitting your table to make sure you get what you need fast. The steamers are excellent, as are the pizzas, burgers - and their 7 for 7buck selection is always varied and great food. This isn't a gourmet spot - just great home-cook style food, with a great local vibrancy and earnest, hardworking staff - and great family pick. read more

My wife and I ordered burgers, right? Bar. Burgers should be decent. Her burger came medium as ordered. I ordered mine medium rare. It came medium well. Barely pink in the middle. Cooked more than my wife's medium. Waitress asked how the food was. I told her"overcooked". She said "Sorry", then never saw her again. So then I complained to the manager. He said the burger looked "medium rare to medium". It was barely pink. I don't think ANYBODY would consider that medium rare. He did apologize, and asked if I wanted a new burger. I asked how long it would take. He said 10-12 minutes; maybe a little longer because it was busy. I declined because my wife was by now more than halfway through her meal. He comped my burger, which was okay and asked what else he could do stating my waitress was one of their best servers. #1 You're a bar. Cook burgers with care. #2 Know what a medium rare burger is (hint: it is NOT barely pink in the middle). #3 Have your "best server" do something more than say "sorry", then disappear. We'll never be back, not because the burger was overcooked, but because the staff did not deal with it properly. What a amateurish joint! read more

Went to the Halfway in Dedham, Ma twice in the last 6 months. Will never go back again. Used to go at least every other month. Over the summer went in and had dinner. Waitress took our drink order and came back 5 minutes later with our 2 beers and took our food order. 20 minutes go by and t saw the table in front of us getting their food. They ordered after us. We waited another 10 minutes and I asked the waitress if she could check on our order. I also order 2 more beers. She came back with the beers and told us that the food would be right out. Another 20 minutes go by and still no food. I ask the waitress to check on our order. She comes back and tell us our order was given to another table. She told us she will put the order back in. Finally after 25 minutes our order comes to the table. Then she gave us the bill after clearing the table and charged us for everything including the 2 beers we ordered because we were waiting for our food that took approx 1 hr and 15minutes to arrive. She did comp the dinners after a little argument. We decide to give it another try last week and still customer service was still poor. When we were done eating our food which was sub-par, I asked for the check. I was informed that the POS system was down but they were working on getting it back up. Why they could not hand write a check like the days before POS systems is beyond me. After 10 minutes, I ask the waitress how much more time before I can get my check. I was informed just a few minutes.Finally, after a total of approx 25 minutes the check arrives. Nothing offered for the inconvenience. The Halfway to me is more concerned about serving sub-par food and not concerned about customer service. This used to be a very good local neighbor restaurant. Now it is just another corporate chain restaurant. Save your money and go elsewhere. read more

We have driven by this small restaurant a million times and it just doesn't have much curb appeal. A friend told us one day how much their family loves it so we decided to give it a try. We love it. Was here on a busy Saturday night but managed to grab two seats at the bar. On the small side compared to Halfway in Canton, but it has a true local bar feel to it and doesn't feel "franchisey". Service at the bar was fast and friendly and the kitchen had our food out accurately and efficiently. 5 beers, an app, and two burgers for 45 bucks. It's a little rough around the edges, but that to me is what a pub should be. I'm tired of these ultra polished and expensive "pubs" like the Local. read more

We live within walking distance so we often come here. The Burgers, Steamers, Fries, Buffalo Wings and fresh free popcorn are always great. I also love the cheesecake. The rest of the menu can be hit or miss. I have had the same menu item and one time it is good and another time not so much. Super fast service. It's a small crowded place but any employee will get you whatever you need. Everyone is so helpful, even if they happen to be off duty and sitting on the barstool next to you!! Not too much street parking in front but if you go down East St. out of Dedham center there is always parking by the cemetery and you can walk in the back door.
