Relaxed saloon vibes with a bit of a sports motif. Friendly, efficient service. Basket of napkins and wetnaps placed on the table before the wings arrived. Wings with Buffalo Hot on a Friday lunch thankfully didn't come out within a suspicious two minutes of ordering, as my last few have. Smoke rising and piping hot, but only a light splash of sauce, with much of the wings still exposed. Nice bold flavor with pepper and vinegar components intertwining beautifully. Crispness achieved. Tenderness and juiciness, still in the past, at least based on my recent visits. Not totally dry, but too close for a joint that was once my gold standard for wings. Had lunch here with a friend yesterday. I have driven right by this place dozens and dozens of times over the years and never realized it was there. I have been reading reviews about how great the wings are here for many years and have wanted to stop in and try them out. Parking was a little tough to find when we arrived at ~12:30 PM. There are 5-6 metered spaces out front but of course they were all taken. I drove around the block and was able to find parking on the side of a dentist office on the block before. I also saw at least one parking lot nearby. Washington street is a very busy street so don't go there expecting to be able to drive from one side to the other jockeying for a parking spot! Anyway, I have read "collegiate" as a description for Buff's Pub and I would agree with that. For me it looked pretty beat but maybe that adds to the ambiance. There are several booths against the wall on the left-hand side and they seemed small but were fine for two people. We ordered fried cheese curds for an appetizer (I believe this was a special for the day), my friend had the sirloin tips with onion rings and some veggies and I had chicken tenders with mild buffalo sauce and fries. The cheese curds were OK. I was in Wisconsin a couple weeks ago and I think everyone there eats cheese curds with every meal and they are really good there - at Buff's they were OK - I thought they fried them too long - the outside of the curds were very hard - you had to really aggressively stab them with a fork to be able to pick one up. My friend really liked his sirloin tips - looked like there were 6-8 nicely sized pieces of meat. The onion rings were large and crunchy. I tried one and it was pretty good. My tenders were good - not the best I've ever had but tasty. I ordered the mild buffalo style and I appreciated that they didn't overdo the sauce and make it hotter than what I was expecting. The fries were shoestring style and were OK - served hot but with no seasoning. There are lots of flavor options for wings and tenders so I think that as long as you like chicken you'll find something here that you'll really like. Our server was very friendly - she mentioned that she had worked there for 23 years and she was very helpful with answering any questions we had. The inside looks old to me but again, maybe folks like that lived-in feel. I thought the place could use an update. I used the bathroom and it looked fairly new and was spotless. The food is pretty solid. I'd go back if given the opportunity. Parking can be tough and since the place is pretty small I would think it gets crowded/noisy on certain evenings but I think overall Buff's Pub is a solid place to enjoy some wings/tenders. If I did go back I would probably try the nachos or the turkey chili. Just sayin'. read more

We went Saturday for lunch and are already plotting our next visit. It was very crowded at 12:15 and only got more so; be prepared to wait! It's a small space, nice local pub. Service was quick! I got the Buff's Pale Ale which they have brewed by Harpoon. It was ver good. Their Guinness pours are great too. We got 20 of their mild buffalo and 10 of their Carolina Gold, which came with fries. Everything was beyond delicious. I loved the flavor of the gold and could have handled the medium buffalo. The chicken had crispy skin and there was a ton of meat on each one. It is all set up for a Sunday football game with five televisions. Wherever the seat, there is a view of one of the screens. There are meters in front with free parking on the side street. It had a rustic look with barn boards on the walls and wood through out. Tables are out front on the sidewalk. I had the buff cheeseburger with Greek salad. Saw this wing spot/eatery on the Phantom Gourmet on there great 8 wings spot. There are parking lots in area, but we snagged a curbside space. It's not much for ambiance as it's a pub but the food was excellent. All booths were taken but we were invited to one of the two open bar seats. Seems like a large selection of beers and many special drinks. We had decent captain and coke. We came for the wings so wings it was. My brother enjoyed the wings and have several sizes, small only for eat in and some assorted flavors, we went with classic buffalo and blue cheese. They did come with carrots as this should be a standard. My only critique would be they could have been a little crisper or cook a minute longer. Servers are rather laid back perhaps as so young but were attentive and friendly good local spot to watch a game. I'd definitely return. Really can't get better wings in the Boston area than Buff's. I've never had any other item on their menu and probably never will. No thrills, Buff's is simple and perfect. The place is always busy and doesn't take reservations. You will have to wait a while, so put your name down with them at the front, grab a drink, and watch a game. Took a new friend here for a late lunch. It was 1:45 PM in the afternoon. Restaurant was packed. We each got 10 wings and a side. Completely stuffed half way through. My friend who doesn't like anything devoured her plate, and I got plain wings with sauce on the side . The waitress we had was kind of rude and disappeared a lot. The place is small but is known for the best wings in boston. I tried to go one evening a few months back and they told me a 1hr wait lol NO considering there's about nothing around there. So this time around I decided to get it when they open. Service was okay but I give it to the fact the server said they just started working there 2 days ago. Since they weren't busy the wings came out in like 2 mins which was interesting. So the food. Well...They were wings that's for sure. I know the wing sauces I got and yet I couldn't figure out what I was tasting. They are touted as the best wings in Boston, but they were just ok IMO. Wings were a decent size and they have several flavors to choose from so maybe that is the draw. I opted for the buffalo flavor, extra crispy. The wings fit the profile and tasted like anyone would have expected and were cookee perfectly, but nothing uniquely stood out in terms of flavor. It tasted like a plain wing dipped in a standard buffalo sauce (no zip, zang, or twang) on par with most pubs. They also have specials each night, which the people there seemed to love. Def on my top 5 list of best French Onion soup. I know that sounds kind've random that this is my go-to order at a wing/sports bar pub, but I'm telling you their French onion soup is sooo good. A longstanding Newton institution, Buff's has been on my list of places to try ever since we moved here and I noticed it one street over from another perennial favorite, Max and Leo's. I've only gotten wings for take-out so I'll have to come back and try dining in - but I have to say, I do enjoy eating wings in the privacy of my own home, with gloves on. We ordered the buffalo (mild and spicy), the lemon and pepper, and the Nashville hot. Yours truly is a wimp when it comes to spiciness so I mostly stuck with the mild. The wings were delicious - good amount of meat on the bone, generous slathering of sauce. They also reheated well. This place must make a killing on Super Bowl Sunday. Parking situation is bad, you're better off trying to find a spot in the parking lot one street over or on a side street. Ever since coming to Boston, I've been dying to try out these wings! I've heard so many great things and I know it's a great local spot. I went with a group of 4 and we got there at a perfect time and were seated immediately. I know that there was a line afterward but it was fine for us! It's a relatively small establishment and you might be a bit close to someone else but adds to the cozy atmosphere. We also surprisingly got our food very fast and the server was super attentive to our friend's gluten allergy. I ordered the 10 wing plate with Traditional buffalo sauce, fries, and ranch. I really liked the sauce and had a great level of heat. The ranch wasn't very thick so it coated the wings nicely and balanced out with the sauce. The fries were standard, not bad but not mind-blowing. I will say, the wings were a bit overcooked in my opinion. Some of the crust was a bit hard and the meat could've been softer. It's $20 for the plate and I was definitely full. They have a long list of wing sauces though and I'd love to go back and try some more! I saw someone next to me order the Garlic Parm and put Buffalo sauce on top and it looked fantastic. I'll be ordering that next time! Very good bone- in wings but pricey. Hidden add on fees don't make for a pleasant dining experience. Ordered 10 wings for $17 bucks asked about a side salad. It was explained to me that I could get a little salad instead of fries and they call it a wing plate. I said ok knowing the wing plate was $19 dollars. She would substitute the fries for a little salad instead. I get the bill not only did they up charge me to the 19 dollar plate charge which was to be expected. There was an additional $3.50 fee for a substitution that was never mentioned. They gave me 2 small ranch dressings and I assumed one for the wings and one for the salad but honestly 10 wings with one little ranch to dip was inadequate so I asked for another. $1.50 up change for a small dressing that should have been included. I understand charging extra for people who order excessive extras but 10 wings for one little side to dip in was not adequate. Christmas lights (it's December) and people gathered around the bar cheering on the World Cup Soccer and Sunday football. People were just enjoying themselves here. It was packed. Tight space. They do have high chairs and was acceptable at the hour we went to (around 3:30pm) for kids to be eating wings. The onion rings were just how I like them. Plentiful and thick. The wings- good. I had garlic cheese siracha. It was more siracha than anything. I am glad I tried it but next time I would try something else. My big win of the day, and I know this is ridiculous at a wing place- the Garlic Balsamic dressing was DELICIOUS! My husband even agreed. Great spot for bar food. It's not very big and it's got a lot of wooden booth's. So expect to get crowded. There are TVs along the bar and the booths are along the wall. So most of the seating are positioned to allow for comfortable viewing. Unless you get a one of the few tables and your back is facing the tv. The out door seating is comfortable but it's in a high car traffic area. The team is quick and on the ball. You may have a dedicated server but it appears everyone helps out to keep the food flowing out of the kitchen. Best things on the menu is definitely the wings. You can get different sauces in orders of 6, 10, 20. We wanted to try different sauces, so we ordered a few plates of 6. If you want a side like onion rings, you'll need to order 10 or more wings. We kept seeing plate after plate of wings and fries. Proving the fact that it's the hot item on the menu. Go and check it out but don't be surprised there is a wait during prime dining hours. People were still coming in after 9pm to order food. read more

No one rep'd Buff's Pub more than myself. I've literally left other restaurants to come here because I love their options and vibe, etc. Lately, there's been a real downfall of service. It happened a couple of times before but I kept coming and then today the most bizarre thing happened... I asked for some extra sauce... I got refused by my server. He said he's only allowed to give me two... I've been coming for years and not once was I told that was a rule (not sure why it would be to limit sauces at a WING joint). I offered to even pay and also pointed out on the menu that they offer and charge for additional sauces. I didn't challenge the rules so I just ordered as allowed, but then they brought small instead of large, I asked the man dropping off the food if I could just grab the bigger size and then he politely agreed. I made the mistake of saying "Oh ok, because the server was making an issue over the sauces" then all of a sudden his answer changed in front of me and said he had to "ask". Long story short... he didn't come back and neither did the server. I wasn't even offered a plate or napkins so I just took my food and left. This is also after I was refused a booth cause I was alone and then saw multiple booths with a solo customer this time and before. Foods great so shout out to the kitchen staff but the servers were a bit rude and unfriendly.
