Wow. What happened today??? This was the worst service ever. We are your customers. We come here often but you had two booths ahead of us and that was it!!!! You forgot us. Forty minutes to get a bowl of gumbo!!!!!!! What the hay. We can stop coming. In fact we are done because of this one time. Good bye. You obliviously done need us. Good bye read more

We waited over an hour to be seated. Then the host took us on a tour around the entire establishment to find an open table. That was set for 2 we had 3. The air was extremely cold! Probably why my food was cold after coming out an hour later. Our server was horrible. We don't plan to go back. read more

Half Shell Oyster House - Hanging out with the papa bear - Cajun/Creole Near Me - Mobile, Alabama

My husband and I were staying in Mobile for an early doctors appointment the next day and decided to check out Half Shell Oyster House for dinner. Oh my goodness the food was amazing! Our server Ltysha was such a joy! I give her a 10. She was friendly, knowledgeable about the menu and had the most fabulous sense of humor! I don't normally leave reviews however my experience at Half Shell in Mobile was not the normal these days which is why I wanted to leave this review!! This experience was the best we have had in the last three years! Way to go Ltysha! The food you recommended was fabulous and so are you!! ***** read more

Excellent food choices in the food is tasty. Service was great. The waitress we had was even training someone and still provided exceptional service. Seafood platter was perfectly sized with good portions of each offering. I added fried oysters to the platter. We sat towards the back and it was a little dark with lighting. read more

Everything about this place is great. The food was outstanding. Our oysters were so fresh and tasty. The bartender makes the best drinks and the people behind the bar are super friendly. It was a wonderful evening. read more

Ambiance was nice. Good was excellent. Def try the oyster sampler because they were all really great variety.

Always great service. The shrimp and grits are my favorite. Steaks are good quality meat and all other food on the menus are great as well. Great atmosphere and friendly staff. read more

Always come for lunch and order the same thing; 3 each of the four types of baked and grilled the offer. Bienville ( toppped with crab, shrimp and cheese) bring my favorite. I feel deprived if don't have the others. So the oysters are 5 star and I can't vouch for anything else. read more

Food is usually very good. And the service is as well. Last time we were in the cleanliness left something to be desired.

Oh my, my!!! Wow, what a GREAT birthday present!!! Finally a restaurant that knows how to make New Orleans style BBQ shrimp. My husband had the snapper and said his was delicious. But now, let me talk a bit about our server JOE !!! Wow....friendly, knowledgeable, helpful in assisting us in making choices. For a change, a server that knows what the hell he's doing. Even had a quiet demeanor which I eventually was able to break down a wee bit. Attentive, but not overbearing. Overall a very positive experience. I wish that I could have the same server each visit and know what to expect, as it can really make or break the experience. I wish the servers were equally aware of that fact. I will be returning and hopefully will have a good time again. Restaurant was clean and the rest of the staff was friendly as well. read more

The food was great. It's an upscale seafood place in Mobile, though, so don't let the location fool you. It's a little pricey compared to other local options, but still tasty and delicious. Service was good. Restaurant was a little dark inside at night. Had to use my phone flashlight to read the menu. This was also several years ago when we were last there, so maybe they upgraded the lights. Comparatively though, if I'm paying that much for dinner, I'll go to the Causeway and enjoy the view of the water, not a parking lot. read more

Great food, great service. Fresh seafood. Probably could use more options seems like a lot of fish with sauce on top options to me, but the oysters and wine are great! read more

First visit to this location but visited the Gulfport locations. Few times and have never been disappointed. Thanks his location doesn't have the same feel but food was delicious and staff very friendly ..and the most important part of all. The chargrilled oysters were perfect! Ruby reds were sweet but really needed to be cleaned in my opinion. Fried green tomatoes and crab cake starter was good and would have been better with less toppings. Still a Trusted option and happy to have visited read more

It's a splurge because there are cheaper places, but the chargrilled oysters and crab soup are superb! I like to sit at the bar and have a draft beer with my dinner. read more

I really used to loooove Half Shell. Have been several times over past seven years but I was very unimpressed. Restaurant wasn't packed but my daughter and I was sat in the farthest corner they could find. Server was nice but the greeters seemed to have attitudes and later two large parties were sat right on top of us and they instantly got all the attention. I wanted to do something special for my daughter for making A Honor Role and I felt like I was an employee taking a break. Not to mention the menus are so old that you can barely read the selections. Definitely needs improvement. read more

The service was very good. The menu was very diverse, but not matching the online items, there was no salmon available on the menu. The shrimp and grits were excellent. The steak and shrimp were also very good. The steak was slightly over cooked for medium but it was tender and still flavorful. We will definitely return to sample other items on the menu. read more

Hotel staff recommended this place because of the seafood. Specifically, the oysters. I'm not a fan of oysters however, they said they had plenty of seafood options. I was looking for salmon. Pics showed salmon so I was gone with that. Went to the establishment, reviewed the menu...no salmon. Asked the hostess, he said they no longer sell salmon. Bummer. Running out of time and it's getting late so I just decided to order something. Decided on the chicken Alfredo with Cajun Alfredo sauce with a side of asparagus with Gorgonzola cheese butter, and crab cakes. The pasta was cool. Didn't understand the Cajun part of it because I didn't taste it. They forgot the garlic bread so I had to ask for it. 3 small pieces of bread. Asparagus was good. Cheese butter gave it a kick. Crab cakes were just alright. Safe to say, the name of the establishment is what is the winner here. Since I don't eat oysters, I won't be back. Customer service was nice tho. No complaints there. read more

This was a great choice, the Oyster Sample gave us a sample of each specialty oyster and every one was delicious. We could t decide between the appetizers because every dish that passed up made us change our minds. We are at the Mobile location, I can't wait to try out the Gulfport and Biloxi location to see if the lobsters tail are just as delectable!!! If you are in the area, you must stop by to try some of these dishes. read more

Two of us came in for a later dinner. We were promptly seated and waited on in a timely manner. We ordered the oyster sampler, crab claws, and the seafood pasta. The oyster sampler came out with 3 oysters each of 4 different types of oysters, all cooked with sauces. I personally prefer raw oysters, but decided to try for these because of all the reviews. The first oyster of each of the four types went down well, and was pleasant. However, the second round, I started to quickly notice the heaviness of the oysters. If you're not used to heavy butter/cheese/cream, these oysters may bit a bit of a surprise. My favorite was the rockerfeller, followed by bienville, as these were the lesser on the heavy side. The crab claws, we ordered New Orleans style and came out next and were plentiful in quantity. However, these were a bit too salty and overly buttered for me. The seafood pasta came last. The seafood amount was very plentiful of crawfish, shrimp, portabella mushrooms, and lump crabmeat. The sauce wasn't as heavy as the rest of the food, nor too salty, which I liked. I wasn't a huge fan of the gulf shrimp. As opposed to the shrimp I was used to, gulf shrimp weren't as crispy and more 'meaty'. Perhaps they are supposed to be this way. The portabella was my favorite, as it wasn't overly cooked, nor was it undercooked. Full of flavor with good texture. The lump crab was good in flavor as well, but I would have preferred it separate from the pasta. The crawfish was great, second to the mushrooms. Only thing is there were some shells in the pasta. Based on the other reviews, this place is an excellent establishment. Unfortunately, I wasn't too keen on the heaviness of the food. If you're all for it, then this is definitely an awesome place for you! read more

Ate here twice as I have traveled though Mobile in January 2024. It's one of the better restaurants I've found in Mobile. Staff has been great on both visits. I give the Royal Redfish a B+. The Caesars salad was mediocre. On second visit I had house salad and seafood gumbo. Both were good. Ambience is good. Nice bar. Driving to the location is a bit strange with main roads and side roads and Intersections involved. read more

Half shell = Full flavor !! When this close to the gulf one must have sone gulf oysters. I have had oysters all over but the Orleans Oysters are some of the best I ever had !! The gumbo was full of flavor and the right amount of kick. Along with solid good the service was great !! This spot is off the water and not down town but worth the stop. read more

Sweet potato cream Brule stuff was amazing. Fried green tomatoes - maybe the best I've ever had. Shrimp with grits- oh yeah. Don't know where to begin and will be back soon. read more

I loved my dinner here. Food came out fast and hot! The claws were really good and not greasy! The oysters were char broiled to perfection. Server (Brooke) was nice in not only my section but the server in the one beside it too!! She even told me about the dish that came out for the next table that looked amazing (gonna try the wings next time) Oh and just so you know all tables were spaced out and servers had mask. I know most would go out to eat at this time but I'm traveling for work and I'm glad I stopped here!!! read more

Good food and good service. Moderate pricing. We went here not knowing what to expect, and we were pleasantly surprised.

Great restaurant to get the best gulf coast seafood when in Mobile. The service staff is excellent and friendly. I'll be back!

Restaurant is on airport blvd and portions of it looks a little older or rundown. Don't let that stray you away! The oyster house is a winner! We visited for lunch so portions were smaller but perfect for lunch! I had the stuffed portabella. No complaints there. But the side I chose with it was the best. I could have had a full plate of the okra. My boyfriend had a half dozen, 3 and 3, charbroiled and the orleans. Orleans for the clear win between the two. Cajun sauce had really good flavor. Charbroiled didn't have as much flavor. They also provided a baguette to sop up all the extra oyster juices/seasonings. The waitress was kind enough to allow him to do a 3 and 3 split. She was wonderful! Not just in that request. His side was a pork stock turnip greens...great flavor, good portion, cooked to perfection. Lunch prices are SUPER affordable! read more

I visit Mobile often for work. I usually stay near Airport Boulevard and have noticed this place several times and never stopped in. Believe, me when I say, I'll be back here at least once every trip I take from now on! The bartenders are amazing: Gabi, Jackson, and Ryan! You all really made me feel at home! The atmosphere is great and I event got to meet a few locals to give me some advice on what to do with my weekend in town! This is a true gem in Mobile and I'll be sure to visit again soon! Thank you for such a wonderful night -- need to try more of your food -- just had oysters and champagne this night but even those were delicious :) read more

I ordered the grilled catfish and they tried to serve me the smallest catfish I have ever seen. I mean I've see goldfish bigger than these fillets. I sent them back and the waiter had an attitude about it. Others in my party had already gotten their food so I ordered something else. Normally I would have just left. The manager was checking on everyone else's table but skipped ours. Guess he didn't want to deal with the complaint. Will never eat here again. read more

Wow! This place is amazing! I stopped in on a Friday afternoon during Happy Hour for a few drinks and a nice dinner before the rush came. I started out with half a dozen chargrilled oysters. They were pretty good. My meal consisted of grilled Redfish Orleans, grilled Asparagus, and Sweet Potato Crème brûlée. It was amazing! Really wish I'd discovered this place sooner as my four month project is nearing an end in the area. If you are ever on I-10 or I-65 in Mobile, Alabama, I suggest stopping by for dinner. Good quality as good as Spanish Fort & Gulfport locations. Service is amazing! Great stop on the way to the beach!

Excellent seafood, convenient, and great service. Oysters are fresh, and huge. Easy access to. Magnolia Grove golfing.

Made reservation, there was a large party just lingering around, I could tell the hostess was looking for that table to move on but they just kept staying there. We did get seated right after our original wait time which was fine. The oysters are always good. The burger is also good. Drove all the way to this location Due to the one in Destin closing down. We will be back, can't say at this location but every one I've been to has been consistent with service along with food quality read more

Dissatisfied with the hostess lack of knowledge on how to greet and accommodate guest.
