I'd passed it a few times while driving on Airport Boulevard. I was working from home so I went there on my lunch break. When I walked inside I saw a few patrons sitting at tables. There was a a buffet style counter set up with the work staff behind it. Each of them greeted me as I walked toward the counter. I was asked what I wanted and I said thought instantly about the fried chicken I saw. I ordered that and the meal comes with three sides and cornbread as well. I chose mac and cheese, black eyed peas, and mash potatoes and gravy. The server rung me up and I took my plate to go. I can't remember the first thing I tasted when I got home. I believe it was the mac and cheese. It doesn't really matter. The sides were really good. Mac and cheese is usually my favorite side but I thoroughly enjoyed the black eyed peas. Don't get me wrong the mac and cheese was excellent but the peas were superb. The mash potatoes were creamy and the gravy was savory. The cornbread was the type that had the pieces of corn in it. I liked it. Now the main course was of course the chicken. It really looked and tasted like authentic homemade fried chicken. I loved the seasoning on the chicken. It was some of the best chicken I've had in a while. I definitely want to come back.

So flipping good and SO huge I didn't need much for dinner and these were more than plenty! Young man's Dad was also at the bar and had a nice chat with both. One star for the hush puppies…read more One star for our friendly server. Sadly, I can only give two stars to Wintzell's House in Mobile, Alabama. I should've listened to all of the advice from the locals on Reddit, who warned me that this place has fallen on harder times. The char grilled oysters were funky. I ate them but worried as I ate them. The hush puppies earned a star. They were pretty tasty. The were my favorite thing on the table. However, we asked for butter, and our server gave us packets of butter substitute. Doesn't this restaurant have real butter? The gumbo was fairly tasteless and also, they had chopped up whatever seafood was in there so finely that it all just turned into mush. If there was any seafood in there, I sure didn't taste it. The West Indies crab salad was a shocking disappointment. It was a scoop of crab meat, which they ruined by mixing it up with mayo. That's it. An ice cream scoop of canned crab meat mixed with heavy mayo. It's like they didn't even try. The bread pudding left very little impression. It was a little rectangular square. Our server misunderstood us when we said we wanted it topped with ice cream, and served the bread pudding alongside a bowl of five scoops of vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup and whipped cream. It was a very odd dessert situation, but we worked our way through it. Our server was an amusing fella. He kinda/sorta made the evening. Overall, I'm glad I went so I could know for myself. However, I do wish that I had listened to the locals on Reddit.

Because this spot is not pretending to be anything. This is full-on, unapologetic dive. And I mean that in the best possible way. You walk in and it's like the '70s, '80s, and a little bit of someone's '90s basement bar all got together and said, "Let's not change a thing." Old banquet-style tables, a bar top that feels like it's hosted a thousand stories, and walls that have clearly seen some things. I loved it immediately. Now let's talk food. The folks next to me were deep into the chicken and dumplings and talking about it like it was a life event. You know that kind of table chatter where you start reconsidering your order mid-bite? Yeah, that. I went shrimp po' boy... and no regrets. Shrimp fried just right. Crispy, flavorful, doing exactly what it's supposed to do. Solid sandwich. The fries... eh, they showed up a little tired. Not terrible, just kind of there. A little cold, a little soggy, like they'd already had a long day. But here's the twist. You don't come to Judy's for perfection. You come for personality. For the feeling that you just discovered a place that doesn't care about trends, doesn't need a remodel, and definitely isn't chasing Instagram. It just is what it is... and somehow that works. Fold this into your expectations. If you need polished, keep driving. If you want real, pull up a chair. It's fun. It's different. It's got character for days. Four stars. And honestly, half the star is just for staying exactly the same all these years.

The ambiance is what you would assume a Jamaican restaurant would be: Jamaican flags, Jamaican colors, Jamaican customers. The only reason why I give this place a 4 stars is because they were missing entrees. I originally came here for the jerk chicken, but they were out, even at lunch time (12:00pm). Other than that, it was reasonable pricing for the portion I got. I would come here again.
