Baked Chicken, cabbage and yams!!!

Truly one of the best restaurants in the Mobile area. Daily selection is amazing and portions are perfect.

Beef tips
Charles J.

Peach cobbler was really good. Beef tips and rice was tasty and tender. Collard greens with okra and some corn bread was the truth. I should have gotten the yams but the mac n cheese looked really good. So I tried it instead. But back to the peach cobbler. Super hot and ready to eat. Just like I like it. I'll return for the cobbler alone Cheers

This is the best meat and three I have ever had. Everything was absolutely delicious and they have a great set up. The staff was super friendly and helpful. There are a couple of places to sit if you are dining in but seemed like a lot of people get it to go. I highly suggest getting the peas if they have them when you visit!

Tuesday meatloaf and mashed potatoes with green beans and black eyed peas.

Came on a Tuesday and got the meatloaf with mashed potato, green beans ans black eyes. The mashed potatoes were the best I've ever had! And the meatloaf was so good. Massive serving and it's super affordable. You cannot beat it. The ladies that work here were extremely nice. Definitely will be coming back!

My fault for getting their close to closing time. Mac and Cheese was tasty but cold, fried chicken was good but greasy and veggies were cooked to death. I'll have to go back at an earlier time.

We stopped in for lunch while we were in town for the game and want some good southern style cooking and this place didn't disappoint. This isn't a fancy sit down place with table cloths and linen napkins. This is the real deal five table with the big fan in the corner place. They have a steam table full of delicious food and the prices are very reasonable. It took me a while to decide what to order because everything looks so good. I had to try fried chicken. This to me determines if everything else is going to be good. I also had the cabbage, mac & cheese, speckled butter beans and cornbread. All I can say is AWESOME! The chicken was seasoned perfectly, the cabbage was the best of all the sides. The beans had pieces of okra that made them taste so good. The meat that they used also gave them a taste I've never had. The mac & cheese was creamy and it tasted nothing like craft cheese and shells! The cornbread was also good and it wasn't dry. Last but not least, I had peach cobbler for dessert. Make sure you either save room or take it with you. This is by far the best I've ever purchased in a restaurant. It is very close to my mom's. I have put this in my favorites so if you're in town, please make it your intention to stop by.

I needed to get something for lunch and decided to try Oschcola's Home Cooking. This place has been…read moreon my radar for a few weeks. I'd passed it a few times while driving on Airport Boulevard. I was working from home so I went there on my lunch break. When I walked inside I saw a few patrons sitting at tables. There was a a buffet style counter set up with the work staff behind it. Each of them greeted me as I walked toward the counter. I was asked what I wanted and I said thought instantly about the fried chicken I saw. I ordered that and the meal comes with three sides and cornbread as well. I chose mac and cheese, black eyed peas, and mash potatoes and gravy. The server rung me up and I took my plate to go. I can't remember the first thing I tasted when I got home. I believe it was the mac and cheese. It doesn't really matter. The sides were really good. Mac and cheese is usually my favorite side but I thoroughly enjoyed the black eyed peas. Don't get me wrong the mac and cheese was excellent but the peas were superb. The mash potatoes were creamy and the gravy was savory. The cornbread was the type that had the pieces of corn in it. I liked it. Now the main course was of course the chicken. It really looked and tasted like authentic homemade fried chicken. I loved the seasoning on the chicken. It was some of the best chicken I've had in a while. I definitely want to come back.

Because this spot is not pretending to be anything. This is full-on, unapologetic dive. And I mean that in the best possible way. You walk in and it's like the '70s, '80s, and a little bit of someone's '90s basement bar all got together and said, "Let's not change a thing." Old banquet-style tables, a bar top that feels like it's hosted a thousand stories, and walls that have clearly seen some things. I loved it immediately. Now let's talk food. The folks next to me were deep into the chicken and dumplings and talking about it like it was a life event. You know that kind of table chatter where you start reconsidering your order mid-bite? Yeah, that. I went shrimp po' boy... and no regrets. Shrimp fried just right. Crispy, flavorful, doing exactly what it's supposed to do. Solid sandwich. The fries... eh, they showed up a little tired. Not terrible, just kind of there. A little cold, a little soggy, like they'd already had a long day. But here's the twist. You don't come to Judy's for perfection. You come for personality. For the feeling that you just discovered a place that doesn't care about trends, doesn't need a remodel, and definitely isn't chasing Instagram. It just is what it is... and somehow that works. Fold this into your expectations. If you need polished, keep driving. If you want real, pull up a chair. It's fun. It's different. It's got character for days. Four stars. And honestly, half the star is just for staying exactly the same all these years.

Southern food includes Meat-and-Three restaurants, barbeque, fried ANYthing, fresh caught fish, and…read morehunted game. Hominy, hush puppies, cornbread, grits, Alabama white sauce on any meat, especially smoked chicken, are all popular in Alabama. BBQ is practically a religion in the South! As former certified Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS) certified judges, my husband and I completed the training and paid the fees to be certified. The "KCBS way" is different from a lot of people's preferences in that, for example, a BBQ rib should actually have some "pull" to it, meaning, when you bite into it, your mouth should leave a mark in the rib. This means "fall off the bones" ribs are not KDBS quality, despite how many love that rib consistency. The KCBS judges slots fill up so quickly and required us to travel at our own cost and we did not judge any KCBS events. Back to Southern food. Deep fried double Oreos are one of the many fried foods here in Huntsville, and Melt restaurant features them on their menu. Meat-and-Three restaurants feature a meat (usually fried pork chop, meatloaf, BBQ, fried catfish, country fried steak/chicken) and three sides (fried okra, creamed corn, mashed potatoes and gravy, baked potato, potato salad, cole slaw, French fries) and bread options such as cornbread, rolls, hush puppies. While Southern Cooking is absolutely delicious, I have to limit it because lets face it, it is high in calories and cholesterol. When I do indulge, it's shrimp and grits, pimento cheese, fried green tomatoes, and fried whole okra.

I was finally able to make a point of making a special trip over there on a Saturday late afternoon. Unfortunately it still wasn't the best timing for a first trip or making a review as we were limited to what we could order based on the fact that their hours state they close at 5 but they shut the kitchen down at 4:30 and we got there just after 4. It's hard going out for dinner to a place that closes at 4:30. I ordered a sausage sandwich which to my delight was not the monotonous Conecuh. It was really good and reminiscent of some of the whole in the wall places in Texas that does good sausage. The only draw back was that being near closing time they didn't have links but was able to do slices. It was good but hard to eat. My hubs got chicken and ribs. I liked the ribs... they still had some bite, tender but not falling apart, and the smoke is mild, not overkill like so many other places do. Hubs wasn't a huge fan of but I thought they were nice. The chicken was on the dry side, but I never go to a bbq joint to order chicken so it's not a deal breaker for me. The only major downer was that all of our sides seemed to be standard pre-made and ordered items, not made in-house. I also liked the hole in the wall vibe, the friendly staff, and the divine smoke aroma that lets you know you're in the right bbq joint. All in all I enjoyed their Q and will need to go back when I can get the timing right to sample their steam table offerings.
