Husband was craving some bbq and out usual spots were closed on Mondays. We heard this place was good, so we had to try it. It's a hole in the wall. Tables are covered with advertisements for sponsors. Service was friendly. Food was pretty good. Not the best, but good. I am super picky about Mac and cheese and theirs just didn't do it for me. The bun on my pulled pork sandwich was a little hard. Most places toast it or whatever, but they didn't. The pulled pork itself was good but I wasn't a fan of the sauce. Again, just me being overly picky. The pickle was a nice surprise and I actually gobbled it down first. The bill was cheaper than expected. Will we go there again? Uncertain. read more

This was a regular breakfast stop but it seems like the food has been going down for a while and has hit rock bottom. I stopped in for dinner and ordered the half smoked chicken. When it came out I thought it looked odd, kind of dry and wrinkled looking. I decided to try it. It was freezer cold. Then it hit me, it looked like a rotisserie chicken after it sits in the refrigerator about a week or two. I told the waitress and she said that they microwave them twice...Twice, really? She asked if I would like it heated again. I passed (it was dry too). So I opted for the hamburger steak. It was ok, nothing great but not bad either. The Chicken gets a definite zero for being old, dried microwaved chicken. Isn't that dangerous??? I gave them two stars for the waitresses honesty. read more

We stopped in on a Sunday night for dinner and weren't really blown away. My husband and I both got the baked beans and they were definitely our favorite part of the meal. Some of the best baked beans we've had! I got chicken and dumplings and it came out to me ice cold. Even if it had been warm, it still wasn't the best dumplin dish in my opinion. My husband got the whole hog sampler and liked the ribs and sausage. You could tell just how hardworking the staff was throughout the whole night, making sure every customer inside and in the drive thru was served while also having to pick up phones and do their normal nightly tasks. We came right before the church lunch crowd. The restaurant seems to have a pretty steady group of regulars. I ordered the sampler platter, my husband had the fired chicken special. Nothing really stood out. The fried chicken was juicy but not seasoned very well. The turnips were nice and savory, and they brought peppers in vinegar to the table. That was the highlight of the meal. Mac n cheese is not homemade. For a place named the hickory pit, I'd expect the ribs to have a smoke flavor. I have a hunch that they're cooked in the oven. The pulled pork was mediocre, the smoked sausage was conecuh. Everything was covered in bbq sauce, which tasted a whole lot like sweet baby ray's. Sweet tea was weak and not very sweet. Cornbread was dry and rubbery. It could be I didn't order the right thing today. The special was roast and gravy, which seemed to be what everyone was eating. Honestly one of the worst places we have ever eaten at. The ribs were so hard it was hard to get the meat off the bones and hard to chew after. The corn bread was cold. Burgers were flavorless. Will definitely not be returning. read more

So unimpressed. The staff acted like we was bothering them. Everything was dripping in grease... and the grease tasted old like it needed to be changed many cooks ago... I ordered cheese curds for appetizer- the marinara tasted sour and the curds was like a grease sponge- all the cheese had popped out and they was very lightly fried.. When I said that's not chicken fried chicken I was told yes it is. I said that's two chicken strips. She replied yes that's it... did you was the chicken fried steak? I said NO I was wanting chicken fried chicken not chicken strips. My sides was green limas and fries. The green limas was literally baby food mush with no seasoning. You couldn't even tell it should have been limas. They fries tasted like grease and had a weird wang. Finally I sent back the chicken strips and ordered something else and it just got worse from there. You could hear the cook fussing about us in the back and all the girls giggling. And this was just My food not to mention the rest of the party. I wish I had took pictures but I was so disgusted that I paid $25 for food I took to my dog and he literally no kidding refused to eat it! I really wanted to like this place and I really wanted it to taste as good as the pictures they posted look but it was very clear those pictures was stock photos and not their food. Hubby and I went up to Semmes to try this family owned restaurant and we weren't disappointed. We found out from the owner, Brandon Van Hook, that it had been open for almost 10 years. So on his suggestion we both tried burgers and they were awesome. In fact, they were so good and BIG we both came home with half for later. I had the Black & Bleu cooked medium and dressed with a cajun mayo, lettuce, tomato and blue cheese crumbles...yum! Hubby opted for the Hickory Pit Burger after I read the description out loud to him! Check this out: BBQ Sauce, Bacon, Onion Rings (on the burger) and good old Cheddar Cheese. He loved it! You get a side with your burger and so we both had fries. I had the steak fries and he had regular. Both were great! Things to know: The restaurant opens at 5AM and closes at 9PM, every day. They serve breakfast and have daily lunch & dinner specials. It is not a very big place, so I imagine there are times when you have to wait for a table. The next time we go, I think we may try the breakfast. We live in WeMo and this is only about 15 minutes from our house if you take Snow Road. Very friendly staff read more

Where do I begin. My family keeps getting me to order from these guys because it's convenient. Quality is more important than that. We ordered for five and three of the orders were supposed to have cornbread. We got none. The Corn on the cob was completely dried out and had a big brown spot on one side and overcooked. The two items ordered with brown gravy came with white gravy. The two items ordered with white gravy came with brown. The Jumbo pulled pork sandwich was so dry I almost choked on it. The Baked Beans had no flavor. This Restaurant seems to never get things right. I cannot believe the people that work there would eat this CRAP. We tried Hickory Pit Too on a whim. We ordered via Dapper Deliveries and I ordered nachos. Now for delivery I knew nachos was probably a pretty risky choice, but when they arrived they were still crispy and piled high with toppings. The portion size was large enough it fed me for two days (and I still didn't finish it all). Overall I would highly recommend. We've ordered a few times since stumbling upon it. Running late with no time to make lunch, so I call Hickory Pit before I leave my driveway. I order the Wild West Burger all the way with fries and sweet tea. The very nice young lady says 15 minutes. Fifteen minutes later I'm pulling up to the window. My order is ready, fresh and hot. As soon as I get to the office, I enjoy a delicious sandwich and hot crunchy french fries. Went on a Friday to check out their All You Can Eat. The crayfish looked good but I tried the fried green tomatoes and had the fried shrimp and catfish with corn and potatoes. They brought coleslaw and hush puppies first. The slaw needed sugar otherwise it was decent. The pups appeared to be a very poor take on the old starter at Halls Catfish Cabin Mobile used to have, too bad. The batter for the tomatoes and catfish was too course and did not compliment either of these items. Batter for shrimp was falling off. I would maybe try the crawfish next time or just order from the menu. Still many items left to try. Will report back when I do. read more

Staff was very fast with refills and very accommodating and attentive but it's a bunch of young girls who do nothing but gossips about personal business and other people's personal business right in front of you. Extremely unprofessional. The food was absolutely great despite me having to wait 40 mins but it's understandable as it was a large family meal order. But not cool to hear about drug issues and d@#!
