a hamburger and macaroni and cheese
    Niki A.

Husband was craving some bbq and out usual spots were closed on Mondays. We heard this place was good, so we had to try it. It's a hole in the wall. Tables are covered with advertisements for sponsors. Service was friendly. Food was pretty good. Not the best, but good. I am super picky about Mac and cheese and theirs just didn't do it for me. The bun on my pulled pork sandwich was a little hard. Most places toast it or whatever, but they didn't. The pulled pork itself was good but I wasn't a fan of the sauce. Again, just me being overly picky. The pickle was a nice surprise and I actually gobbled it down first. The bill was cheaper than expected. Will we go there again? Uncertain.

Great local place there is . We have had best breakfasts ever right here. There's nothing to say but delicious !

Best breakfast in town! We have had other meals too but hands down the breakfast's are amazing . Nice friendly staff too. Always clean !

Whole hog sampler with baked beans and fried okra

We stopped in on a Sunday night for dinner and weren't really blown away. My husband and I both got the baked beans and they were definitely our favorite part of the meal. Some of the best baked beans we've had! I got chicken and dumplings and it came out to me ice cold. Even if it had been warm, it still wasn't the best dumplin dish in my opinion. My husband got the whole hog sampler and liked the ribs and sausage. You could tell just how hardworking the staff was throughout the whole night, making sure every customer inside and in the drive thru was served while also having to pick up phones and do their normal nightly tasks. We would definitely like to come back and try some different menu items!

    Fried chicken, sampler platter

We came right before the church lunch crowd. The restaurant seems to have a pretty steady group of regulars. I ordered the sampler platter, my husband had the fired chicken special. Nothing really stood out. The fried chicken was juicy but not seasoned very well. The turnips were nice and savory, and they brought peppers in vinegar to the table. That was the highlight of the meal. Mac n cheese is not homemade. For a place named the hickory pit, I'd expect the ribs to have a smoke flavor. I have a hunch that they're cooked in the oven. The pulled pork was mediocre, the smoked sausage was conecuh. Everything was covered in bbq sauce, which tasted a whole lot like sweet baby ray's. Sweet tea was weak and not very sweet. Cornbread was dry and rubbery. It could be I didn't order the right thing today. The special was roast and gravy, which seemed to be what everyone was eating. I was hoping for more out of a bbq joint.

My"go to" breakfast place... Great service. Great breakfast. GREAT prices. And, if you're in search of the elusive tomaro gravy for your biscuit or hash browns...guess who's got it!?!? This place...and it's yum. Great burgers too. Oh! And PHENOMENAL fried chicken! I hit up the Hickory Pitt probably every week. It's good, consistent southern cooking.

two bowls of macaroni and cheese

Potato salad was mostly mayonnaise. It was awful. The chicken was dry. They put bbq sauce on it to disguise it. I kept waiting to hear a dog yak on a bone. The okra was good. Mac and cheese was terrible. Meat sample was very dry as well. There were flies and it smelled of fish inside. One star for okra. Tried to eat, but yikes!!!

I ordered the meaty breakfast burrito and it didn't have a lot of flavor so it just wasn't that good.

So it was doubly pleasing to be able to introduce her to this pleasing restaurant with its eclectic cuisine. The breakfast menu is what usually draws my attention. Served anytime, not just normal breakfast hours, a customer can choose between crumpets, omelettes, french toast, or just the usual bacon and eggs. I usually order one of their crumpets, but today, chose their Loaded Omelette with cheese grits. More like a purée, the grits were superb, creamy and buttery. My omelette was delivered spicy and hot. Giving my daughter a taste we soon concluded that the sausage used reminded us of the blood sausage we have enjoyed for breakfast in Peru, when we travel there to visit my wife's family. This is certainly not a typical omelette for Mobile, Alabama. My only complaint about it is that it was slightly overcooked and dry. Nevertheless, it was very tasty. My daughter had the Fried Egg and Cheese Crumpet, that she reported to be delicious. A mix-up on my drink order brought me a Turkish coffee rather than a Turkish latte, and suspiciously weak to be considered Turkish. I suspect that the cashier heard "Turkish", but not "latte", and confused, may have decided to see if a regular Americano would pass as an acceptable substitute. Except for the jolt I was expecting to receive, from the latte I ordered, it was acceptable. I am eager to return again to try one of their "Build Your Own Smashburger." Until then I will continue to hold the opinion that I have yet to have a disappointing meal at the RedBar, and I rest assured that my meal on that day will be equally satisfying.

I have tried the stuffed mushroom, Shepards pie and a burger and all were fantastic. For a side I had the sweet potato casserole and it was ok, not my favorite as I found the potatoes to be slightly undercooked for my liking. Other than that every thing was amazing. The stuffed mushroom with balsamic reduction probably my favorite. Prices are really good too. The dining tables are old window with mason jars to drink from adding to the uniqueness. Will be back really soon.

I strive to give honest reviews so I'll highlight the good as well as some areas that fell short: We were seated in the side room all the way in the back under the speaker which made us have to raise our voices to speak to one another and also so our waitress could. The music may be fine throughout the rest of the room but way too loud sitting beneath the speaker. And we were right in front of the kitchen door where the strong aroma of Fabuloso would waft over. The house salsa is standard with very little flavor. Ask for the spicier one... not too much heat but a more concentrated ancho flavor boost. They also serve a cold creamy dip with the chips that has a flavor profile of sour cream - mayo with sweet Italian dressing mixed in. It was an interesting change. The choriqueso was very good, but also standard. Our three-top ordered shredded beef chimichanga plate (be sure to specify 'shredded' if you don't want ground beef), a step up in quality from what you get around town. Next, shredded pork enchiladas topped with salsa verde - *chef's kiss* delish. And I went for something that I could gauge the freshness of their produce as well as a solid protein - I ordered the Cucumber Apple Salad with grilled chicken breast. The salad itself was lovely and light with freshly cut apple slices and plump dried blueberries. The disappointing factors were that the breast was very thin and therefore borderline too dry and the dressing is store-bought Newman's Own. The salad would shine with a really nice house-made vinaigrette. For afters, we shared their stuffed churros (which I don't see listed in the menu) and they were DEVINE. They may come from restaurant supply, but they were perfectly fried and would be amazing with a nice cup of Cuban coffee! (I don't know if they serve coffee but I will ask next time.) All-in-all our first dining experience at our newly opened Hispanic spot was positive and enjoyable with a few minor negatives that I'm sure can be ironed out. Go check them out!

Today I ordered fried pork chop, candied yams, loaded potato salad, collard greens, banana pudding, and blackberry cobbler (was told it was blueberry)! The pork chop tasted ok, cold but ok. The candied yams were out of the can with a bitter sweetness of honey or syrup, I truly could not identify. They were too bitter to enjoy. The greens were tough and seasoned with some type of hot sauce that took away from the natural taste of homecooked greens. The loaded potato salad, well....just stay away.
