We stopped in here on the recommendation of a local. It's clearly a small town place -- dumpy, rundown, and the waitstaff are pretty darn casual. We were waved to seat ourselves, and settled on table, since 3 people in a booth looked like it would be a tight squeeze. Drink orders were taken before we were offered menus, but the waitress was happy to discuss the menu and make recommendations (it was mid afternoon, so not very busy). I stuck with my usual pulled pork, and it was excellent! I really enjoyed the sauce, and they put enough on the pork that I didn't have to add any (many places give you only a token amount to start). The husband got a combo plate, which he said was a mixed bag. The coleslaw was not very impressive -- a typical take one bite and set it to the side -- but I was thrilled that they offer Texas toast! To my mind, Texas toast gives everything a little extra something that plain bread doesn't. They also offer cornbread and rolls. Restrooms were decent. Again, service was casual; we ended up just stopping at the front counter to pay and get a to-go box. For what we needed -- a decent meal before making the 3-4 hour drive back to Tuscaloosa -- this was a good stop. I would definitely rate their barbecue over several places I've tried in Tuscaloosa, so if you're in this neck of the woods, Hickory Pit Too is not a bad choice (I have no clue what's going on with the "Too," as it's just one location.....). read more

I was stoked to find a recommendation on Waze for what I thought was a BBQ joint open on a Sunday! To have my worst expectations met Dry Ribs and thin sliced brisket that looked and tasted as if they came out of a beef jerky bag from a gas station, the pulled pork was well seasoned and sauced to my liking, cornbread was as good should have went with the Texas toast. My wife had the special Chicken and two sides, side were good, the chicken was a little dry. My son had the burger which was real good. They are a seat yourself establishment that needs a better way of paying your ticket. Ordered barbecue, fried chicken, macaroni, turnips, potato salad, butter beans, cornbread, and hush puppies. They left the cornbread and the potato salad out of the bag, but certainly charged me for them. The fried chicken was crispy, but I'm not sure if they know what seasoning is. Turnips were so bitter they also don't know how to properly season them- anyone who knows how to cook greens knows to cut the bitterness. Barbecue came in fatty chunks already swimming in sauce and was not very good at all. It was edible, but I definitely won't be ordering ever again. Don't let the name fool you....this place has a great breakfast! Stopped here on our way through and had a delicious breakfast, great coffee, and friendly staff. Would definitely stop here again breakfast or dinner!!! read more

Great food, great service. My only complaint is I wish the restaurant was a little bigger. I have a large family and sometimes it's tuff for all of us to get in together. But we make it work we will split up just to go in and enjoy the bbq here. Never had a bad meal! The breakfast here is really good too. Keep up the good work! read more

Meh... went for lunch, got the pulled pork plate. I'm pretty sure the mashed potatoes weren't real & the gravy started as a powder & the fried okra was clearly pre-battered-frozen. Another Yelper commented that breakfast was solid, which I could be persuaded to try, because how badly can you screw up breakfast? We stopped here on the way to the beach based on the location and some good reviews ... but it's a no for me. We were waved to seat ourselves - most of the booths are torn with stuffing showing. That's all ok but not a great start. We has a sweet little waitress who was new, and she tried but has not been taught some fundamentals such as offering refills or bringing food out together. I was served 10 minutes before the other 2 even though we all ordered together and one other was having the same meal as me. My catfish was barely warm and seemed to have been left in a warmer. Peas were ok, and onion rings were probably frozen but were freshly fried and the best of the meal. Texas toast that was recommended was dark and tasted a bit burnt . Husband's catfish was better as it was fresh and okra was fine. My son has a half chicken, but it was so dried out it was inedible. The waitress asked the manager and they took it off the bill, but son had fries and water for lunch. There were a couple of other girls sweeping but they didn't speak to us, and we had to ask for our bill. So the combo of passable and overcooked food with poor management makes this a one stop visit. Prices were good, and I am not lowering the rating due to the waitress, as she was new and was trying her best. The manager didn't even bother to come out when we showed the waitress the dried up chicken. I think this place may have some better options but they need to improve their management. read more

The food's passable, but the service sucks. No, I take that back... If the service sucked, that would be an improvement. The servers are lazy, rude and quite frequently mess up orders then blame the customer for the error. At one time, they did have friendly and courteous servers. Since the restaurant is small, I can only assume they hired bad servers to keep the occupancy level down. read more

Went during lunch time, took a while to be greeted. My friend ordered ribs and they were good although they were disintegrating. I ordered the shrimp poboy with Mac and cheese and both were decent. One conversation we had over heard from our server with other guests seemed very unprofessional and inappropriate for a work environment. read more

This place has ok BBQ, but there are a lot better places. The side are way too greasey. They fry there corn on the cob, which made it greasey and cold in the middle. The fries are ok. I guess we should have tried the mac n cheese. read more

We stoped in with my family and the food was excellent. The restaurant and restrooms were clean for a hole in the wall. Service was good. Pulled pork was the way to go. My sandwich was delicious and my wife got the pulled pork salad and it was huge. Daughter got the pulled pork mini sandwiches and she loved it. Fried pickles with ranch were also great. read more

I got the sample platter.. Sweet potato fries and Mac n cheese. There all on point BBQ sauce and the meats are really great. I'm very picky about BBQ!! If you don't know what smoked meat or hickory taste like this is place has got it covered! Even though we love the food (the burgers are great!) Their service leaves a lot to be desired. We call in our orders for take out and I can't remember a time they haven't forgotten to give me something that I had ordered and I had to go back for it. Last night I was missing something, called up there and was basically called a liar when the girl that took the order AND answered when I called back told me "Mam you didn't order that". Ordered two seafood dinners one Sunday evening. The food was so greasy, we couldn't eat it. I threw it in the garbage. I should have took it back up there and asked for a refund but I just chalked it up to "been there, won't be back". Sorry service, with a don't care attitude.
