a hamburger and macaroni and cheese
Niki A.

Husband was craving some bbq and out usual spots were closed on Mondays. We heard this place was good, so we had to try it. It's a hole in the wall. Tables are covered with advertisements for sponsors. Service was friendly. Food was pretty good. Not the best, but good. I am super picky about Mac and cheese and theirs just didn't do it for me. The bun on my pulled pork sandwich was a little hard. Most places toast it or whatever, but they didn't. The pulled pork itself was good but I wasn't a fan of the sauce. Again, just me being overly picky. The pickle was a nice surprise and I actually gobbled it down first. The bill was cheaper than expected. Will we go there again? Uncertain.

Great local place there is . We have had best breakfasts ever right here. There's nothing to say but delicious !

Best breakfast in town! We have had other meals too but hands down the breakfast's are amazing . Nice friendly staff too. Always clean !

Whole hog sampler with baked beans and fried okra

We stopped in on a Sunday night for dinner and weren't really blown away. My husband and I both got the baked beans and they were definitely our favorite part of the meal. Some of the best baked beans we've had! I got chicken and dumplings and it came out to me ice cold. Even if it had been warm, it still wasn't the best dumplin dish in my opinion. My husband got the whole hog sampler and liked the ribs and sausage. You could tell just how hardworking the staff was throughout the whole night, making sure every customer inside and in the drive thru was served while also having to pick up phones and do their normal nightly tasks. We would definitely like to come back and try some different menu items!

Fried chicken, sampler platter

We came right before the church lunch crowd. The restaurant seems to have a pretty steady group of regulars. I ordered the sampler platter, my husband had the fired chicken special. Nothing really stood out. The fried chicken was juicy but not seasoned very well. The turnips were nice and savory, and they brought peppers in vinegar to the table. That was the highlight of the meal. Mac n cheese is not homemade. For a place named the hickory pit, I'd expect the ribs to have a smoke flavor. I have a hunch that they're cooked in the oven. The pulled pork was mediocre, the smoked sausage was conecuh. Everything was covered in bbq sauce, which tasted a whole lot like sweet baby ray's. Sweet tea was weak and not very sweet. Cornbread was dry and rubbery. It could be I didn't order the right thing today. The special was roast and gravy, which seemed to be what everyone was eating. I was hoping for more out of a bbq joint.

My"go to" breakfast place... Great service. Great breakfast. GREAT prices. And, if you're in search of the elusive tomaro gravy for your biscuit or hash browns...guess who's got it!?!? This place...and it's yum. Great burgers too. Oh! And PHENOMENAL fried chicken! I hit up the Hickory Pitt probably every week. It's good, consistent southern cooking.

two bowls of macaroni and cheese

Potato salad was mostly mayonnaise. It was awful. The chicken was dry. They put bbq sauce on it to disguise it. I kept waiting to hear a dog yak on a bone. The okra was good. Mac and cheese was terrible. Meat sample was very dry as well. There were flies and it smelled of fish inside. One star for okra. Tried to eat, but yikes!!!

Now for delivery I knew nachos was probably a pretty risky choice, but when they arrived they were still crispy and piled high with toppings.

I loved this place so much!…read more It's quirky, it's nostalgic, it's fun. We were there for lunch, so no live music, but there is a full calendar of acts. The food was fantastic! The sweet potato casserole was the best I've had, and the potato salad was fully loaded. Loved the sauce varieties, and had the mud pie for dessert which was scrumptious. The staff was so friendly and helpful. Lots of seating, lots of parking, lots to do...gift shop, glamping, the bayou, and of course "the poo with a view", lol.

Not good at all…read more Ordered 1/2# brisket + 1/2# pulled pork + 1/2 rack of baby-back ribs + a pint of beans & a pint of cole slaw + some original BBQ sauce = $68. The good: our $4.50 Shiner Bock was ice cold. That's all that we enjoyed. Ribs were overcooked and beyond tender - no smoked taste - meat was mushy fall off the bone - the texture was terrible. . Pulled pork was flavorless - it was devoid of any seasonings - we couldn't taste any seasonings or smoke flavors. Brisket had a great bark but otherwise it was dry and over cooked. Ordered 1/2 flat & 1/2 moist, which surprisingly puzzled the order taker as though he had never heard brisket has 2 distinct textures. All we got was dry flat slices. And they offer no burnt ends: "we're so busy, we would have no time to serve burnt ends." BBQ sauce was almost black and tasted burned. It was inedible. Beans were thin and pale and way too soupy. The cole slaw was soupy and very sweet. Since this place is apparently popular, and our servings were so different from BBQ in Texas and FL and SC, MS folks like a very strange facsimile of real BBQ. All in all, the Shed was just not good. Any Sonny's anywhere is miles better. We most certainly won't be back.

Grew up around Memphis and Mississippi and have had Texas , Carolina and Missouri BBQ and Alabama…read moredoesn't get it , don't get me wrong there were some good things at Moe's , loved the cornbread, beans but the ribs were just ok , the Mac and cheese was overcooked the sauce was not great , the beans were good and the service was excellent but Alabama is just not a barbecue state so it seems they miss the mark . Dont get me wrong there are some great places to eat in Alabama but you just don't do barbecue.

Wow - a very disappointing meal. I won't be back even though I have enjoyed Moe's for at least 15…read moreyears. Why? First the "BBQ Sauce" was at least 20% yellow mustard. It was hands down inedible. The ribs. They were cooked but only medium rare and not my fave temp for any pork. They were also the the long fatty ribs and not the well-seasoned charred variety. Bland bland bland. AND my full rack had 6 ribs. Sorry that I know this fact but it should Have been 10-13 ribs. The Mac-cheese was about what was expected. The cornbread as great, but imo any bread should be stoppable )in decent sauce and this was nasty). The beans were pretty damn good - I would order them again. BUT since I do not do to any restaurant for a cup of beans Moe's is now a huge pass for me. I am so sorry - not for my poor meal but for how you have put yourself into a fast-food experience. And I would normally reach out for the 6 ribs you owe me but just give them to the raccoons.
