Hubby and I went up to Semmes to try this family owned restaurant and we weren't disappointed. We…read morefound out from the owner, Brandon Van Hook, that it had been open for almost 10 years. So on his suggestion we both tried burgers and they were awesome. In fact, they were so good and BIG we both came home with half for later. I had the Black & Bleu cooked medium and dressed with a cajun mayo, lettuce, tomato and blue cheese crumbles...yum! Hubby opted for the Hickory Pit Burger after I read the description out loud to him! Check this out: BBQ Sauce, Bacon, Onion Rings (on the burger) and good old Cheddar Cheese. He loved it! You get a side with your burger and so we both had fries. I had the steak fries and he had regular. Both were great! Things to know: The restaurant opens at 5AM and closes at 9PM, every day. They serve breakfast and have daily lunch & dinner specials. It is not a very big place, so I imagine there are times when you have to wait for a table. The next time we go, I think we may try the breakfast. We live in WeMo and this is only about 15 minutes from our house if you take Snow Road. Very friendly staff

Been wanting to stop in at Roger's and check them out for ages but always seem to have timing…read moreconflicts. I was finally able to make a point of making a special trip over there on a Saturday late afternoon. Unfortunately it still wasn't the best timing for a first trip or making a review as we were limited to what we could order based on the fact that their hours state they close at 5 but they shut the kitchen down at 4:30 and we got there just after 4. It's hard going out for dinner to a place that closes at 4:30. I ordered a sausage sandwich which to my delight was not the monotonous Conecuh. It was really good and reminiscent of some of the whole in the wall places in Texas that does good sausage. The only draw back was that being near closing time they didn't have links but was able to do slices. It was good but hard to eat. My hubs got chicken and ribs. I liked the ribs... they still had some bite, tender but not falling apart, and the smoke is mild, not overkill like so many other places do. Hubs wasn't a huge fan of but I thought they were nice. The chicken was on the dry side, but I never go to a bbq joint to order chicken so it's not a deal breaker for me. The only major downer was that all of our sides seemed to be standard pre-made and ordered items, not made in-house. I also liked the hole in the wall vibe, the friendly staff, and the divine smoke aroma that lets you know you're in the right bbq joint. All in all I enjoyed their Q and will need to go back when I can get the timing right to sample their steam table offerings.

I am 75 but have only lived in AL in the Mobile area about 10 years and have dined at the Barnyard…read moreBuffet only about half dozen times or less. The first time I thought: This is it.....I have found my place to eat!! My 2nd visit was a year or 2 later and I thought: This is still pretty good but not really good like I remember. After all the fairly recent features of the restaurant and Chefs on Local TV, so a year or2 ago I tried again but still not nearly as overall good. So I gave it some time and was nearby today 1 Oct 2026, & I tried it again. Down, down, down!! Not nearly like I'd hoped. So I wrote this review in hopes that some of my ideas and comments might be considered for possible improvement or at least create a couple alternative menu items for future customers to choose. Ideally owners managers would create a ongoing system to solicit exit comments from randomized customers for future considerations of possible changes. COST: All must pay up front at the cash register upon entering the restaurant. This is quite different than most other restaurants, cafeterias and buffets in the local Mobile Metro area. My senior early bird price was Good at $16.99. But cost me $19.44 due to added undisclosed and unforementioned credit card or other "non-cash" charges that were not even shown in the final calculations on the ticket receipt, just listed the sales tax. The extra charges were just lumped into the final cost figure, something that the customer would never know unless they looked very closely at the receipt. (Just be upfront and transparent with your customers if you wan them to be happy while eating your food!!). The cashier also requested a tip pay then but I declined with the thought that tips should be afterwards & based on excellent performance above and beyond what duties or work that is just regular part of their job. In my case. The server only brought my drink and checked with me a time or two but is that part of the expected regular job I think; nothing extra nor nothing special was done. But I did leave a very modest tip anyway just to say - Thank You! FOOD: I usually love green beans but these were mushy, over-cooked , broken apart and excessively salty. Apparently way over-strirred during the cooking process. Looked & tasted More like rewarmed leftovers! The added seasoning used did not suit my taste at all. Overall was more like a low-end school cafeteria taste & style. 1.5 Rutabagas looked ok & were cooked properly but were in large chunks and very bland tasting with almost none of that fresh crisp, sorta sharp rutabaga flavor that most garden fresh ones have. Kinda just "old" taste & texture. 3 Mac & Cheese casserole pan looked great, browned across the top and around the edges! Well cooked and good general overall flavor & good macaroni but to use four cheeses together was excessive and combined gave the "gravy" part a chalky texture/flavor that I do not like at all. Just plain cheddar cheese in mac-n-cheese is by far the BEST and I've eaten many, many servings over the years. A couple little recipe tweaks and your Mac & Cheese could be AWESOME!! 3.2 Cornbread muffins were lumpy inside and were yellow cornmeal.....Nah! And adding sweetening or sugar in the recipe makes it awful tasting to me. Sweet bread is for desserts to be eaten after the main meal. The lumpy part inside could probably be helped by adding a little more raw egg and oil into the pre mix....not regular old bulk vegetable oil but Extra Light Virgin Olive Oil only! The very best cornbreads are made with only white cornmeal! Some of the most awesome bread of all kinds I've ever eaten was cornbread using white cornmeal and triangle sliced after being cooked in a cast iron round skillet!!! 1.0 Banana Pudding is ok good for a "Cool Whip" base pudding but is only an authentic Southern home country style if the base is made of egg custard pudding topped with egg-white meringue. The BY bananas used appear to be off-brand (not Chiquita or similar) and did not taste fully ripe, firm but sorta soft. These had very little of that expected excellent banana flavor. The cookie wafers used appeared and tasted like bulk off-brand not like the expected Nabisco Nilla Wafers, which are the only kind that should be used in any GREAT Banana Pudding!! 3.5 Raw carrots & Broccoli fresh & good! 4.3 Pickled okra Excellent! 4.9 Fried Okra looked good, not much fresh okra flavor & taste. 2.5 Fried Chicken livers, not much fresh liver flavor & taste. 3.0 Green lima beans, looked good & well cooked just not much fresh vegetable flavor. 2.9 Vanilla ice cream, tasted pretty good but very icy more like ice milk. 4.1 Peach cobbler Very good. 4.2 The Mug decaf root beer was good but unexpectedly sweet! I thought it was a unsugared diet drink. I only had one plate of reg food with just small servings of each item plus two little bowls of desserts.

Our server remained atop of their game staying attentive & making sure drink orders were maintained…read more& used plates were bussed ensuring enough space for other plates we came back with. From personal observation. Their simplistic display met usual standards with other buffets when speaking about Selection & presentation. Starting with their Cornbread, Mashed Potatoes, Chicken & Salad. Each dish's flavor was lackluster & missing any savory appeal I expect when dining at buffets. Potatoes lacked any airy & fluffy tastes expected. Butter & gravy couldn't enhance any flavor potential. Cornbread contained same disappointment having zero moisture somewhat crumbly dry & flavorless. Chickens nothing to crow about. Its juiciness lacks seasoning & is untender. Meatloaf remains undesirable and also feels dry in texture & taste while having little seasoning. Everything besides homemade desserts was disappointing & my excited anticipation of enjoying their buffet became met with disappointment & heartbreak with every bite. Sadly Golden Corral or local Chinese Buffet outperformed this place. Despite attempts to enhance the flavor with condiments like Ketchup, gravies, or hot sauce. Foods offered remained unpalatable adding towards disappointment with every dish. Thoughts pertaining towards revisiting here would require entree improvements offering a foreseeable future potential for returning could become likely. There are some positives outside of their food being a quaint setting outside reminiscent of some small beautiful beach cottage containing within small cozy simplistic (It's way I love it) interior with nice decor.. Clean interior friendly service enjoyable Strawberry Shortcake. Some positives remain & love to take any opportunities towards leaving positives when I can.
