This time, grits were runny and the shrimp smelled "fishy", I sincerely dislike leaving a poor review - but I can't say I love a place for their consistency and guaranteed decent meal and then get this. First time I haven't finished my grits in months, sadly, this is my parting meal as I prepare to leave Mobile. I haven't been to the Boiling Pot in a long time. There was one near my house but it was closed down a few years ago. I was out near the Airport boulevard location and decided to make an order. The half fried shrimp poboy seemed like the best idea. I wasn't trying to eat a whole lot. When I got there I only had to wait a few minutes. When I got home the food was still warm. I had one of their plates. I came in for a po boy, but the description of blackened catfish smothered in a crawfish sauce sounded too good to pass up. Lots of fried items and po-boys on the menu. I came for the crab. Disappointed to learn they no longer serve dungeness crab, but the shrimp and snow crabs looked like a good substitute. Not so much. They do have royal reds on the menu - hard to find but usually very good (I didn't try them on this trip). The snow crabs were okay, and the flavor of the shrimp was okay. Appeared to be boiled without seasoning but sprinkled generously with Old Bay - but only on the top layer. Bottom layer had very little seasoning. But the death knell was the shells stuck to the shrimp. Very hard to peel. It's not hard to boil them so they peel easily, but they've missed the mark badly. Corn and potatoes were pretty good, and the counter service is very good and friendly. Maybe the fried food is worth it, but find another place for boiled shrimp. read more

We came for a late lunch and they had a line that was just about out the door. Everyone, was socially distanced 6 feet apart, following the marks on the ground. We noticed a sign posted at the end of the line stating they are currently charging a extra gratuity fee. I want to say it was 3.75%. They have a very large menu to choose from. We chose the Bourbon Salmon, the Combination plate with Shrimp and Catfish, and a Cajun Burger. The lady in line behind us recommended the Southern Bama plate. We will have to try that next time. It sounded good also. You order at the counter and then pick it up later when they call your number. They have a good amount of tables to eat in at. There is an upper section and a lower section. We chose the lower section as there were less people there so we could space out. Due to the virus, only plasticware was available to eat with. It was a little flimsy to work with, but we managed. We enjoyed the Bourbon Salmon the best. I thought the Catfish was very good also. Gumbo was one of our sides, and it was quite good, too. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. There is plenty of parking in the well maintained, shared lot. Be carful upon entering the restaurant if it has been raining, or it is extremely humid, as the tile floor is extremely slippery, even with good footwear. There are plenty of tables and booths with a couple of drink stations for your use. Order at the counter and then wait for your number to be called on the PA system. Be sure to keep your receipt to retrieve your order at the counter. There is a large selection of seafood. They will prepare it in a large variety of ways, be prepared, though, to pay full service restaurant prices. I last got a seafood trio of broiled shrimp, fish and oysters. It was good, but not anything I would call memorable. There is, though, broccoli casserole that I would make a special trip to get by itself. This place has the potential to be much better. Last time I went there and last time I will ever go there they were playing LOUD and VULGAR rap music. I know that at least two people complained. (I was one of them) but the people at the counter had a "screw you" attitude and the music continued. This was our 1st time here (12/7/19) and I must say it was awesome! I had the fried combo ( catfish, shrimp or oysters , I substitute the oysters for fish). My side was the sausage and creole shrimp. The oil in their fried food tastes like it hasn't been changed in years and their " steamed " platters has about a 1/4 cup of brownish oil on it. I tried reaching out to them in a Facebook post about my concerns and instead of addressing them , they blocked me. The sad part is their food was good once , but that was years ago. I came here alot growing up, I remember waiting for it to open and coming like every weekend with my family. It is such a great seafood spot, and has great prices to match. It's perfect for lunch or dinner or anytime really. I loved the fried oysters here, they are fried just right and it comes with SO many, they don't skimp on the good stuff. It is served with fries which are also good here. The crab legs are also amazing. They serve it with little cups of butter, so yummy together. They also season everything well here thank goodness. Being a native New Orleanian, seafood is life! The Boiling Pot is one of the favorite spots in Mobile for a good plate of seafood. Its always fresh and they very generous with the portions. My favorite dish is the shrimp po boy. The half portion is has enough shrimp to be considered two meals, and the full size is enough for two people to eat with a little lagnaippe left over. My only compliant is that they serve tilapia. Living on the gulf coast, their should be NO restaurant that serves a fish that is farm raised in Asia. Just my thoughts. Geez. I had never heard of this place. When we were trying to decide what we wanted for lunch, my coworker recommended The Boiling Pot. Thinking I could go for some fried shrimp, we called an order in. I got popcorn shrimp, broccoli, and hushpuppies. My coworker got white fish, cheese grits, and one other side (can't remember). I was told that it would be 15 minutes so I showed up 20 minutes after making the order, ensuring it would be ready so I could get back to the office. When I arrived the girl at the counter had the WORST attitude. Snapping and talking in a condescending tone. She had ZERO personality. I felt like I was lining up to get a shot. Not pick up delicious gulf coast seafood. Okay so I told her my name on the order and she looked at two orders on the counter that were mine and THEN PUT THE ORDER IN. I mean WHAT was the point of calling ahead? It was lunch time so there was a rush and I had to wait 20 MORE minutes for my food! I couldn't believe it. I was so pissed. Honestly, I would have overlooked it but it was the combo of the eye rolling and lip smacking I got from the check out girl that had me looking for a manager. Now let me pause to tell you the atmosphere is bleak to say the least. It is in a strip mall and very very sad. Its not the place isn't clean, it is. Its beige walls with ZERO artwork or design on the walls whatsoever. It is the cold and weird vibe that carries through the restaurant. When you walk in, there is no smiling face to welcome you, in fact, I wasn't sure where to go when I first walked in. The stone floor adds to the cold interior and just sad. When I go to a seafood restaurant, I want texture. Warmth. An aged feeling. (Do you know what I mean!?) Anyways, back to the order, our food was good. Not great, but okay. The portions were about right for the $11 price tag. The shrimp was fresh and the breading was just right. The hushpuppies were dense and unmemorable. The broccoli was well steamed and seasoned. My wife and I was in Mobile, AL for a funeral service and was told about The Boiling Point, and that it was a great spot for seafood and lots of it. . . Well the food was good (not great), but there was a lot of food and we ate for lunch-around 3:00pm. I had the grilled Grouper, excellently prepared and there was a large portion, the cole slaw I had was good as well, but the shrimp jambalaya was not up to the Gulf Coast standard I have known. My wife had the popcorn shrimp, broccoli casserole and potato salad. Her meal was good except for the salad, which was supposed to be some type of potato. SMH. Sweet Tea was great. Crab bites as appetizers were great! The young lady that took the order was Horrible, and she really should not be working in a customer service environment.
