    Half Shrimp Poboy
    Jonathan R.

I haven't been to the Boiling Pot in a long time. There was one near my house but it was closed down a few years ago. I was out near the Airport boulevard location and decided to make an order. The half fried shrimp poboy seemed like the best idea. I wasn't trying to eat a whole lot. When I got there I only had to wait a few minutes. When I got home the food was still warm. And as I opened the plate I suddenly remembered why I loved the Boiling Pot. Shrimp filled the plate. I knew I wouldn't finish eating all this. The shrimp were perfection. The only blemish I would say were the fries. They seemed like they were overcooked. The fries didn't spoil the meal. I would definitely recommend the shrimp poboy.

My mom picked The Boiling Pot in Mobile, and I was a bit skeptical with the mixed reviews. The place is definitely dated, but the food surprised me--it was solid and satisfying. We had a large group, and everyone agreed the food was good, the staff was friendly, and the tables were clean. A casual, no-frills spot that delivers on taste!

    2 pound tray

I ordered a shrimp tray which usually is a aluminum pan. Which is 50 dollars. Today I ordered the same thing but they gave me this one plate of shrimp and told me this could fill a tray they just don't have anymore pans. Ain't no way this could fill a tray. They told me no refunds a that they I'm overreacting because it's just not in a tray. I will never go back here.

You will not find a better poboy! Their overstuffed poboys are worth every penny and come with fries. Bring your appetite. The staff is always nice and helpful and keep the restaurant clean.

I had one of their plates. I came in for a po boy, but the description of blackened catfish smothered in a crawfish sauce sounded too good to pass up. Well, it was ok, but not great and a bit high priced for the portion I got. Especially after considering I received plastic utensils to est it. The sides I chose were red beans and rice and gumbo. Both were ok. All in all a mediocre experience that truly defines the star rating of three of those stars.

Shrimp and grits are a must!

A great spot to grab a bite to eat along Airport! The shrimp and grits is delicious and heats up great the next day as leftovers, too. We will definitely be coming back here more often for the delicious food and huge portions!

While I have never experienced a bad meal at the Boiling Pot, this might be one of my favorites. The mix of flavors and textures in every bite was amazing. This place is a must. I wholeheartedly recommend anything on the menu!! My party had bayou stuffed fish, crawfish bread, snow crab legs, wings (huge), oysters, crab claws, fish, and several sides. We left very happy and are repeat customers.

Place to get some good seafood. I was amazed with the amount of food you get. It is worth the purchase. I ended up getting Shrimp Po'Boy and Fried Crab cakes. Outstanding flavor for both. I would love to try something else on the menu. Would come back numerous times for more great food

Shrimp and crab with potatoes and corn

Lots of fried items and po-boys on the menu. I came for the crab. Disappointed to learn they no longer serve dungeness crab, but the shrimp and snow crabs looked like a good substitute. Not so much. They do have royal reds on the menu - hard to find but usually very good (I didn't try them on this trip). The snow crabs were okay, and the flavor of the shrimp was okay. Appeared to be boiled without seasoning but sprinkled generously with Old Bay - but only on the top layer. Bottom layer had very little seasoning. But the death knell was the shells stuck to the shrimp. Very hard to peel. It's not hard to boil them so they peel easily, but they've missed the mark badly. Corn and potatoes were pretty good, and the counter service is very good and friendly. Maybe the fried food is worth it, but find another place for boiled shrimp.

Combo Plate with Catfish and Shrimp, Cajun Burger and Bourbon Salmon

We were in town for the day and our usual place was still temporarily closed due to COVID-19, so we decided to try The Boiling Pot. We came for a late lunch and they had a line that was just about out the door. Everyone, was socially distanced 6 feet apart, following the marks on the ground. We noticed a sign posted at the end of the line stating they are currently charging a extra gratuity fee. I want to say it was 3.75%. They have a very large menu to choose from. We chose the Bourbon Salmon, the Combination plate with Shrimp and Catfish, and a Cajun Burger. The lady in line behind us recommended the Southern Bama plate. We will have to try that next time. It sounded good also. You order at the counter and then pick it up later when they call your number. They have a good amount of tables to eat in at. There is an upper section and a lower section. We chose the lower section as there were less people there so we could space out. Due to the virus, only plasticware was available to eat with. It was a little flimsy to work with, but we managed. We enjoyed the Bourbon Salmon the best. I thought the Catfish was very good also. Gumbo was one of our sides, and it was quite good, too. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. We will definitely eat here again if in the area.

The Boiling Pot is at the intersection of Airport and Montlimar in the strip mall at the north west corner. It's not easy to get to because of the traffic pattern here. There is plenty of parking in the well maintained, shared lot. Be carful upon entering the restaurant if it has been raining, or it is extremely humid, as the tile floor is extremely slippery, even with good footwear. There are plenty of tables and booths with a couple of drink stations for your use. Order at the counter and then wait for your number to be called on the PA system. Be sure to keep your receipt to retrieve your order at the counter. There is a large selection of seafood. They will prepare it in a large variety of ways, be prepared, though, to pay full service restaurant prices. I last got a seafood trio of broiled shrimp, fish and oysters. It was good, but not anything I would call memorable. There is, though, broccoli casserole that I would make a special trip to get by itself. This place has the potential to be much better. It's not bad. It's good. It's just not special.

Ordered a stuffed fried flounder for pick up. I got home and had a fried flounder with no stuffing. Lucky me.

I'm enough of an oyster snob that I felt the need to belly up to the oyster bar and do it right. Amazing HUGE wild oysters (young dude shocking suggested the wild) but I've had some of the farm-raised in the area so I got 6/6. So flipping good and SO huge I didn't need much for dinner and these were more than plenty! Young man's Dad was also at the bar and had a nice chat with both. One star for the hush puppies…read more One star for our friendly server. Sadly, I can only give two stars to Wintzell's House in Mobile, Alabama. I should've listened to all of the advice from the locals on Reddit, who warned me that this place has fallen on harder times. The char grilled oysters were funky. I ate them but worried as I ate them. The hush puppies earned a star. They were pretty tasty. The were my favorite thing on the table. However, we asked for butter, and our server gave us packets of butter substitute. Doesn't this restaurant have real butter? The gumbo was fairly tasteless and also, they had chopped up whatever seafood was in there so finely that it all just turned into mush. If there was any seafood in there, I sure didn't taste it. The West Indies crab salad was a shocking disappointment. It was a scoop of crab meat, which they ruined by mixing it up with mayo. That's it. An ice cream scoop of canned crab meat mixed with heavy mayo. It's like they didn't even try. The bread pudding left very little impression. It was a little rectangular square. Our server misunderstood us when we said we wanted it topped with ice cream, and served the bread pudding alongside a bowl of five scoops of vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup and whipped cream. It was a very odd dessert situation, but we worked our way through it. Our server was an amusing fella. He kinda/sorta made the evening. Overall, I'm glad I went so I could know for myself. However, I do wish that I had listened to the locals on Reddit.
