    Lunch Combo 9-Small Oyster Poboy

This spot is a hidden gem in Saraland. I'm a good food connoisseur and I'm always happy when I eat here. I tend to stick with shrimp and oysters but the menu is expansive. Food is cooked fresh to order and the French bread is exactly what it's supposed to be on a poboy. Do yourself a favor and go try it. My lunch with sandwich, fries and a drink was only $7 This is a drive thru place.

The hubs & I were in the mood for catfish and headed to the area to eat at a catfish restaurant that happened to be closed (on Monday) so I yelped the area & saw this place & we decided to give it a try. We both ordered platters. The servings of fish were very generous and very hot and fresh. We tried the fried pickles which were also fresh and crispy. The food was made pretty quickly. The taste.... my husband said the fish was good- I thought the batter lacked seasoning. Those are the positive notes on our visit. The not so positive include the fact that this place seems to operate mainly as a drive thru/ order and leave place and not so much a sit down and have lunch place. There are 3 tables. There are no condiments available on the tables. So ketchup- you'll get a few packets of ketchup and so on. We ordered unsweetened tea and asked for artificial sweetener to which we were told they didn't have any. So, I asked for regular sugar; to which I was again told they didn't have any....how do they sweeten the regular tea?? We were given our food in styrofoam to-go boxes and given a plastic fork. Overall- my husband and I were both taken back to the "Soup Nazi" Jerry Seinfeld episodes..... we will probably go here again- but we'll have to remember to bring our own condiments:) also- this is an Asian inspired fish place- not a Soul food fish place- but it's still pretty good for the price.

There are three tables. But it is a takeout.

I ordered the 2 clusters of crab legs w/ 12 shrimp & they were both delicious. Corn & potatoes were cooked perfectly!

On the menu today was the shrimp boil plate, bbq pulled pork sandwich that you can get as a combo, gumbo and shrimp bisque. So we got everything!! The shrimp boil plate was impressive! Loaded with well cooked and seasoned shrimp, corn, sausage, and potatoes. It comes with cocktail sauce and a seasoned butter dip. The gumbo was fantastic and meaty but the shrimp bisque was fine dinning! So good! Our son had the sandwich and he let me have a little taste. Nice sweet tender pork on a soft bun. Right up his alley. Great prices too. The Shrimp Lady is delivering high quality food with friendly service from a cute and modest location. A must try and if we lived closer, it would be a regular stop for us.

The shrimp lady is very friendly…read more Her hot shrimp gumbo is delish, full of flavor. No pretense. Even bay leaves found themselves in the gumbo. The shrimp bisque is also delish. It's a white sauce kind. I take a way one star cuz they ran out of BBQ sandwich and it's only 1PM. In addition to home cooked gumbo the lady also sells fresh shrimps caught from the Bay. I saw some frozen crab meats, fish such as flounder, salmon, amberjack and Mississippi catfish. This is not a formal sitting down diner so don't come in expecting a typical restaurant experience. But the food is authentic, honest and full of love.

I'm enough of an oyster snob that I felt the need to belly up to the oyster bar and do it right. Amazing HUGE wild oysters (young dude shocking suggested the wild) but I've had some of the farm-raised in the area so I got 6/6. So flipping good and SO huge I didn't need much for dinner and these were more than plenty! Young man's Dad was also at the bar and had a nice chat with both. Great young man and it's clear where his character came from. Next time I'm in Mobile I'll be back and bring others with...

One star for the hush puppies…read more One star for our friendly server. Sadly, I can only give two stars to Wintzell's House in Mobile, Alabama. I should've listened to all of the advice from the locals on Reddit, who warned me that this place has fallen on harder times. The char grilled oysters were funky. I ate them but worried as I ate them. The hush puppies earned a star. They were pretty tasty. The were my favorite thing on the table. However, we asked for butter, and our server gave us packets of butter substitute. Doesn't this restaurant have real butter? The gumbo was fairly tasteless and also, they had chopped up whatever seafood was in there so finely that it all just turned into mush. If there was any seafood in there, I sure didn't taste it. The West Indies crab salad was a shocking disappointment. It was a scoop of crab meat, which they ruined by mixing it up with mayo. That's it. An ice cream scoop of canned crab meat mixed with heavy mayo. It's like they didn't even try. The bread pudding left very little impression. It was a little rectangular square. Our server misunderstood us when we said we wanted it topped with ice cream, and served the bread pudding alongside a bowl of five scoops of vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup and whipped cream. It was a very odd dessert situation, but we worked our way through it. Our server was an amusing fella. He kinda/sorta made the evening. Overall, I'm glad I went so I could know for myself. However, I do wish that I had listened to the locals on Reddit.
