Our query for a seafood restaurant led us here, and at first glance almost decided to leave. The seating was minimal and we had to walk up to the counter to order. While waiting, we realized it is primarily a seafood market and take-out orders for cooked food were the main business. But the reviews were great, so we gave it a try. We were amazed at the quality and quantity of food we got. An order of crab claws and shrimp came with over 40 claws and about ten shrimp, all fried to perfection with the best tasting breading ever! The atmosphere was like old time New Orleans, on the wrong side of the tracks. But relax your snobbish standards a bit, and enjoy your seafood the way it is meant to be served!

These were absolutely outstanding--plump, large, and packed with that high salinity you want from Gulf oysters. Fresh, clean, and just about perfect. Easily the highlight of the meal. Unfortunately, the rest of the food didn't quite rise to that level. The gumbo was below average--lacking depth and richness. The fried green tomatoes were decent, nothing special, and the fried okra (assuming that's what you meant) was pretty middle-of-the-road. The fried oyster po'boy had a lot of potential. The oysters themselves were fried perfectly--crispy on the outside, tender inside--but the bread just didn't deliver. For a po'boy, that French bread is critical, and when it misses, the whole sandwich suffers. On the plus side, the service was good--friendly and attentive--and the location is great, right in a nice part of downtown Mobile. Bottom line: Come here for the oysters--they're top-tier. Then I ordered two additional sides of broccoli and sweet potato Brulé. The flavors of each item danced in my mouth. The red beans and rice tasted like an exquisite marrying of sweet, salty, pepper, spice all in the thick sauce. I closed my eyes with every spoonful. It was not too crunchy, nor was it too soft and limp. The sweet potato Brulé is a sweet purée of sweet potatoes with cinnamon, butter, nutmeg, vanilla and a dash of clove (I think). Did I say butter?
